Evaluate XPath expression using SAXON/JAXP/JDOM

I have a somewhat unique requirement. Working on a legacy application with XML code / libraries littered all over the place. Trying to improve performance.
First requirement (to avoid massive refactoring):
Can I use Saxon to process Xpath Expressions using the JAXP apis (because this is what's used in the app currently) on JDOM documents?
I'm not familiar with saxon api enough....any help/code samples is appreciated.

The Saxon product/feature matrix from the Saxon website says you can: http://www.saxonica.com/feature-matrix.html.

  • Using xpath.evaluate(): xpath exp with multiple namespaces

    Hi,
    I have to evaluate a xpath expression with parent node and child node having different namespaces. Like : env:parent/mig:child.
    I have set the namespacecontext for the child node[i.e., for the prefix 'mig'.]
    But am getting this error :
    javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: Prefix must resolve to a namespace: env
    How can I set the namespace context for both the parent and child nodes? Or is there are any other way of doing it?
    I cant use //mig:child as the requirement needs the whole xpath expression [env:parent/mig:child] to be given as input for the xpath.evaluate() method.
    Here's the code :
    File file = new File("D:\\Backup\\XMLs\\test.xml");
    Document xmlDocument = builder.parse(file);
    XPath xpathEvaluator = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
    xpathEvaluator.setNamespaceContext(new NamespaceContextProvider("env", "http://xmlns.oracle.com/apps/account/1.0"));
    NodeList nodeList =
    (NodeList)xpathEvaluator.evaluate("/env:parent/mig:child", xmlDocument,
    XPathConstants.NODESET);
    xpathEvaluator.setNamespaceContext(new NamespaceContextProvider("mig", "http://xmlns.oracle.com/apps/account/1.0"));
    Thanks in advance.

  • XPath Expression won't evaluate

    I have the same problem posted in the constants discussion
    Hi
    I am trying out the xml file solution. I have places an XML-file in the xmllib location. The file has the following content :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8">
    <bpel-domain>
    <preferences>
    <property name="defaultRentepercentage"> 0.3 </property>
    </preferences>
    </bpel-domain>
    In the Assign step in BPEL I do the following
    orcl:lookup-xml('http://localhost:9700/orabpel/xmllib/trials-properties.xml', '/bpel-domain/preferences/property[@name="defaultRentepercentage"]')
    The error I get when running this is the following
    XPath expression failed to execute.
    Error while processing xpath expression, the expression is "orcl:lookup-xml("http://localhost:9700/orabpel/xmllib/trials-properties.xml", "/bpel-domain/preferences/property[@name="defaultRentepercentage"]")", the reason is ExtFuncFunction.
    Please verify the xpath query.
    I have tried the xpath expression in XMLSpy, and there it seems to work

    I incorporated this suggestion and it worked very well. Thanks!
    Now I have converted my solution to use a structured index. As such, I want to write the where clauses in terms of column names rather than XPath expressions.
    I hoped it was as simple as changing the code that generates the XPath expression to generate a SQL expression. After making that change, I'm now getting this error:

  • Using xpath expressions in Document-Builder

    Hi all
    we have re-designed our (existing) DDX-templates with the Document Builder in LC Workbench. The DDX templates are used to assemble PDFs with LC Assembler-Service.
    Now my question: Is it still possible to use XPath-expression in the DDX template? Please find our example below:
    The XPath expression works only if we copy&paste the DDX source code directly to the Assembler-Service property view (picture below). But referring the DDX-template doens't interpret the xpath path at run time (2nd picture below). Any help on that will be appreciated!
    Works (using DDX source code directly):
    Doesn't work (using DDX template):

    Hi,
    >
    I tried to get a portion of an XML by using XPath Expressions as follows:
    String xPathExpression =
    "declare namespace xq='http://inti.notariado.org/indices' " +
    "$this/xq:RULES/xq:RULE[@disabled]";
    I think any XPath expressions which use [] are not supported in stand alone
    version, but as this is not documented I could be wrong.

  • Expression.Evaluate() - how to use it with propertyobject?

    Hi,
    I code in a process model callback and would like to evaluate an expression with the Runstate.Caller context.
    I found the method
    Expression.Evaluate (
    evaluationContext, evaluationOptions = EvalOption_NoOptions)
    This is exactly what I need. However, if I have a CallingStep.Expr, which is a expression, I can't access the Evaluate() function. It is not available, only the PropertyObjects functions are.
    How can I cast it to be an Expression so I can access the function Evaluate?!
    I though I could do:
    Runstate.CallingStep.Expr.Evaluate(Runstate.Caller, 0x0)
    This would return the expression evaluated in the caller context as a PropertyObject.
    But it's not the case, I'm missing something so TS know Runstate.CallingStep.Expr is an Expression... even if I add it to Watch panel, it shows it's an expression...
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I have an object of type Expression (from what I understand and from what the watch panel is showing) and I was expecting to be able to use the Evaluate() function.
    Expression.Evaluate(seqContext, options)
    But it seems that it's a propertyobject because only the function of this type are available.
    I've attached a screenshot. Thank you.

  • Using substring in the XPATH expression for Receiver Determination

    Hello, I need a little help please.  In my receiver determination, I have a condition and I need to do a "not like" check.   Basically, if the first three positions of the source field does not start with a specific code, then I need to execute the condition.   The condition editor does not support a "not like" operand, so I went to the XPATH expression editor.  I tried to used the XPATH substring function to get the first three characters and then do a "not equal" operand, but it doesn't appear to work.  There are not any runtime errors, but the condition is not executing.  Any ideas on this?  Does the XPATH expression support the substring function?

    Hi Jesse,
    Can you please explain what is the meaning of http:// in the statement
    /p1:PRODUCT/MATNRhttp://not(substring(.,string-length(.) - 2) = '123')
    Please explein, I am having same issue. It is not working here.In My case it is
    /p1:ORDERS01/IDOC/E1EDP01/E1EDP19/IDTNR[http://not(starts-with(.,\"D\"))]
    also tried with
    /p1:ORDERS01/IDOC/E1EDP01/E1EDP19/IDTNR[http://not(starts-with(.,'D'))]

  • How to evaluate dynamic XPath expression in BPEL?

    I have an xml file where I keep many settings for my BPEL process. At runtime, I read the file and I want to select values from it based on values in the process payload.
    For example, imagine that the process payload is an order:
    <order>
    <header>
    <id/>
    <customer_id/>
    <team_id/>
    </header>
    <items>
    <item>
    <id/>
    <sku/>
    <price/>
    <quantity/>
    </item>
    </items>
    </order>
    Now, in my xml settings file, I have a section where I keep a mapping of "team_id" and "assignment_group", so that for each team id, I can select the appropriate group to whom a task should be assigned. The relevant section of the settings file will look something like this:
    <assignment_groups>
    <group team_id='0923230'>invoice_approvers</group>
    <group team_id='3094303'>order_approvers</group>
    <group team_id='3434355'>shipping_approvers</group>
    </assignment_groups>
    So, imagine I get an order input to my process where the team_id is '3094303'. Now I have to lookup the correct assignment group in my settings file.
    So, I construct the dynamic XPath expression
    /settings/assignment_groups/group[@team_id=3094303]
    I know that this would evaluate to "order_approvers". However, even though I have the XPath expression in a BPEL variable, and I have my settings file as a BPEL variable also, I don't know how to execute the XPath expression against the settings BPEL variable to retrieve the correct value.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Thank you for the response. Incidentally, this is the very same document and section that I have been looking at for guidance. Specifically, the section titled "Dynamically indexing by Constructing an XPath at Run Time" on page 12-13.
    I tried to do something similar to the example at the top of page 13:
    <variable name="iterator" type="xsd:integer"/>
    <assign>
    <copy>
    <from expression="concat('/invoice/line-item[',bpws:getVariableData('iterator'), ']/line-total')"/>
    <to variable="xpath"/>
    </copy>
    <copy>
    <from expression="bpws:getVariableData('input', 'payload',bpws:getVariableData('xpath')) + ..."/>
    </copy>
    </assign>
    I am able to achieve the first copy operation to get my dynamic XPath into a BPEL variable and that's fairly straightforward. But I am unable to get the second copy to work. Specifically, I am not sure what to put in the second argument of the bpws:getVariableData function. I have tried many different combinations, but when I try to compile my program, I get the following compilation error:
    Error:
    [Error ORABPEL-10902]: compilation failed
    [Description]: in "C:\code\TrainingWS\SampleGetSettings\bpel\SampleGetSettings.bpel", XML parsing failed because "org.collaxa.thirdparty.jaxen.expr.DefaultFunctionCallExpr".
    [Potential fix]: n/a.

  • Using a xpath expression stored in a variable

    Hi All,
    I have an xpath expression which is stored in the database which I need to use against the request XML. I am able to retrieve this Xpath expression from the database, but not able to use it against the request XML.
    Xpath expression got from the database is: /request/param//name.
    I have tried $body/$XpathVariable, this does not work. I can not hard code this expression during my design time, so the details of the expression has to be fetched at run time.
    Any ideas to get the value would helpful.
    Thanks

    try to assign this value to a temp variable and then in the XqueryExpression try to retrieve it starting with "//"

  • Selecting nodes using an XPath expression

    Assuming that I have a DOM Document object containing a valid XML file, what is the quickest way to select a subset of nodes from the document using an XPath expression. I would like the results in either a NodeList object or another Document object.
    Microsoft has a way to do this using a single method named 'selectNodes'. Why is querying an XML document so hard to do using java? Am I missing something?

    In case you're using Xalan take a look at org.apache.xpath.XPathAPI. The function selectNodeList(...) probably does what you want.
    Good luck.

  • OWSM - Signing element using XPATH Expression

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to sign an element within outgoing body of xml message. We are trying to use the policy pipeline to sign.
    Signed Content: XPATH
    sign XPATH Expression: referencing the element required to be signed.
    We get the error: WS-Security process failure:There are no parts of the message to sign
    The error message indicates that the XPATH query is not correct. Does anyone know of a source of documentation for this where we can get examples. Tried google, forums...etc with no success. Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Managed to sort it, found the following link.

  • Using the XPATH expression function in Transformation activity

    Hi,
    I have to map the variable value(other than the source variable) to one of the node in the target variable in the transformation activity. For that I am using the XPATH expression function bpws:getVariableData ('variableName') and map it to corrsponding target node. But this mapping is not at all happening. The same prolem occurs while using function ora:getInstanceID() in transformation function. Then I could find a metalink note id: 387381.1,saying it as the bug in 10.1.2.2 BPEL PM, which they are covering in the next release. But our BPEL PM version is 10.1.3.3. But still the same type of problem occurs.
    Please let me know, is there are any solution for using the ora:getInstanceID() , bpws:getVariableData in Transformation activity.

    Hi,
    I dont understand why would you need to use the "bpws:getVariableData" function.
    When you are mapping a source-node to a target-node, it usually assigns the value in the source-node to the target-node, which is as good as using the "bpws:getVariableData" function.
    So, technically speaking you need to use this function explicitly to achieve that ...
    Also, if you want the instance-id, you can use the "ora:getInstanceId()" directly in the BPEL code than using it in the transformation.
    Regards,
    Madhu.

  • Using xpath-expressions inside Task Instructions

    Hi all,
    I have a process where I would like to build up the task Instructions in a string variable. However I cannot seem to resolve xpath values when I am putting my string as the task instruction.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks in advance
    Sincerely
    Kim Christensen

    Hi again Marcel - thanks for your quick reply
    However I am not sure I und erstand your answer correctly.
    I have a string variable (str_Inctructions) that I want to set as my Task Instruction.
    So at a point in my process I create a set value with an expression like this:
    str_Instructions = 'Here are some instructions for {$/process_data/myOtherVar$} please follow them.'
    I then set str_Instructions as the Task Instructions (an xpath-expression). When I get the Task in Workspace I see the {$/process_data/myOthervariable$} instead of the value of myOtherVar.
    So how can I get the value of myOtherVar?
