Event filter question Nachi Worm ICMP Echo Request (2156)

The intent is to only see this alert when the source is my IP space. Is it possible to create 2 seperate event filters for this sig? I'd like one sig to filter events when my IP space when it is the destination and the other would allow alerts when my IP space is the source. Would they need to be in some order like access lists i.e. allow specific icmp then deny other icmp?

Yes this is possible.
In version 4,x create a filter that matches SIGID 2156, and also matches $IN for the source and $OUT for the destination and set Exception to True for that filter.
The create a second filter to match SIGID 2156 and leave the address fields defaulted so that all addresses will be matched and leave Exception as the default False.
The first filter line will allow the 2156 to fire when the source is IN your network and the destination is OUT of your netowrk.
The second will prevemt the signature 2156 for firing on any other address combinations like:
Source IN and Destination IN
Source OUT and Destination IN
Source OUT and Destination OUT
(Note: You asked that no alarms be generated for Destination IN, but also assume you don't want alarms for source OUT and destination OUT either)
NOTE: In version 4.x the order of the 2 filters is unimportant. The Exclusion TRUE filter will always override all Exclusion FALSE filters so the Exclusion TRUE filter will always cause the signature to fire.
In version 5.x the ordering of the filters is important.
In version 5.x create a filter that matches SIGID 2156, and also matches $IN for the source and $OUT for the destination, leave the Actions to Subtract field blank (so not actions are removed) and set Stop On Match to True for that filter.
Then create a second filter to match SIGID 2156 and leave the address fields defaulted so that all addresses will be matched and select ALL Actions in the Actions To Subtract field.
The first filter line will allow the 2156 to fire when the source is IN your network and the destination is OUT of your netowrk.
This is because that first filter will be matched and no actions will be removed (like produceAlert). The Stop On Match being True will prevent the checking of the next filter.
NOTE: In version 5.x the order of the 2 filters is important. The sensor will start at the top of the filter list. If that filter matches it will remove the actions in the Actions To Subtract field and then check the Stop On Match field.
If Stop On Match is true then it stops processing the rest of the filter lines.
But if Stop On Match is false then it will continue processing the rest of the filter lines.
If the second filter had come first then it would have been matched even on the Source IN Destination OUT alerts and would have removed all actions and prevented the sig from firing. So the ordering is important.
Also be aware that if Stop On Match was accidentally set to false on the first filter, then the sensor would have continued and also matched the second filter and would have removed all actions because of the second filter.

  • ASA 8.4(2) doesn't respond to ICMP echo on ip address with port forwarding only

    Hello,
    In order to meet our requirements we had to configure PAT for TCP 80 on 2 external IP addresses to one internal IP in DMZ. TCP port 80 is being translated for both external IP addresses and it works as expected. However, since we have migrated to ASA both external IP addresses don't respond to ICMP echo requests generating following error:
    %ASA-3-106014: Deny inbound icmp src outside:<Source IP> dst outside:<Destination IP> (type 8, code 0)
    Previously we have been using Cisco router to achieve the same objective and it worked well.
    I have noticed that when I add "same-security-traffic permit intra-interface" to a configuration the message mentioned above stops appearing in a logs.
    As far as I can tell ASA sends packet back through outside interface, despite the fact that appliance advertises its mac address in response to arp request for the same external IP address.
    Is there any way to make ASA realise that it should respond to ICMP echo requests on external IP addresses that have forwarding setup?
    I do realise that ICMP would work in 1-to-1 NAT scenario, but we can't apply 1-to-1 NAT for 2 external IP addresses to point to one internal IP address.
    Kind Regards,
    Paul Preston

    Hi Julio,
    Interesting. I have tried to map two external IP addresses with using 1 to 1 nat to a single internal IP, but when I tried to configure a second one I remember a message "mapping exists"...
    I think that it might be easier if I paste relevent config:
    access-list From_Internet extended permit icmp any any
    access-list From_Internet extended permit tcp any gt 1023 host 172.17.0.103 eq www
    access-list From_Internet extended deny ip any any log warnings
    object network www-91-17.103
    host 172.17.0.103
    object network www-92-17.103
    host 172.17.0.103
    icmp permit any outside
    object network www-91-17.103
    nat (DMZ,outside) static x.x.x.91 service tcp www www
    object network www-92-17.103
    nat (DMZ,outside) static x.x.x.92 service tcp www www
    With a config above NAT works for both IP addresses, but unfortunately neither IP address respond to icmp echo requests.

  • IPM 4.2.0 and icmp-echo 0.0.0.0 problem

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem with IPM.
    We are running LMS 3.2 with IPM 4.2.0.
    I used IPM to configure a device to perform a ping to an ad-hoc target, the source router was configured as:
    ip sla 182611
    icmp-echo 0.0.0.0
    request-data-size 64
    owner ipm|<name>
    tag <tag>
    ip sla schedule 182611life forever start-time now ageout 3600
    The target device is an ad-hoc with an ip-address but the IP SLA job ends up as 0.0.0.0.
    When I'm running 'show ip sla statistics' it shows that the ping are timed out (as they are being sent to 0.0.0.0 instead of the real IP address).
    The source router is running:
    Cisco IOS Software, 3800  Software  (C3825-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.4(22)T, RELEASE  SOFTWARE (fc1)
    Anyone had familiar problems?
    Thanks,
    Amit

  • ACL filtering icmp ECHO-Reply Behavior

    Hello Guys....
                       I needed some help here.....i have attached the topology with this in case you dont get what iam trying to ask
    i have just 2 routers connected directly like this......     R1<------------> R2,  The network between them is 10.1.12.0/24, R1 has an ip address of
    10.1.12.1 & R2 has an ip address  of 10.1.12.2.....Well so far so good hmmm
    Now the Question is simple i want to block ICMP echo-reply's coming from R1 to R2  simple as that But it only works if i apply an ACL on R2's
    Interface in the INBOUND Direction why on earth it dosent work if i apply the ACL on R1's interface in the OUTBOUND direction ???
    THE ACL is this one#  access-list 100 deny icmp host 10.1.12.1 host 10.1.12.2 echo-reply
                                           access-list 100 permit ip any any
    It works if i apply this in the inbound direction of R2 but why dosen't it work if i apply this in the OUTBOUND direction of R1?
    Please do help me out thanks :)

    Hi,
    I believe that's because "Access lists that are applied to interfaces do not filter traffic that originates from that router."
    See http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios/12_2/security/configuration/guide/fsecur_c/scfacls.html#wp1001135
    for details.

  • Event filter in secmon

    I have a question for the group.
    With SecMon 2.0.2, you can apply an event filter by using the filter editor for a specific signature id to be included in the console view. Is there a way to have the event console exclude multiply signatures of choice but display all the rest when opening the event console with <last saved> event filter. In other words, what I would like is to be able to “open the console” but exclude the sig_id for example nachi (2156)

    Hmmm... I don't think event viewer supports negative filtering.

  • Event Manager question. Monitoring DNS entry.

    Hello everybody,
    I  want to use Cisco Embedded Event Manager in a router for monitoring a  DNS entry that normally resolves 1.1.1.1 but if it changes to 2.2.2.2 the  router has to change some access list automatically in order to permit different  routes.
    I  know how to configure de "action" sentences for change the ACLs but I  dont know how to configure a track or a SLA in order to check the DNS  entry and react if it changes.
    Someone knows how to do that?
    event manager applet ChangeRoutesWhenDNSEntryChanges
    event track 21 state ??????????????????????????????????????????????????<----------
    action 1.0 cli command "enable"
    action 2.0 cli command "configure terminal"
    action 3.0 cli command "ip access...
    Thank you in advance!!
    Marcos.

    Indeed, I just provided the above example to demonstrate how we can force a DNS lookup and parse the IP address...
    I was actually thinking about using the IP SLA DNS probe, but I could not find a way to get the IP address from the results... It just shows the response time.
    In order to make the script work, we would most likely need to use some timer to trigger it periodically.
    This is an adaptation of my previous example to actually accomplish a periodic check:
    event manager applet CHECK-DNS
    event timer watchdog time 60
    action 1.0 cli command "ena"
    action 1.1 cli command "ping host1 repeat 1 timeout 0"
    action 2.0 regexp "ICMP Echos to (.*), timeout is 0 seconds:" "$_cli_result" _match _ip
    action 3.0 if $_ip ne 1.1.1.1
    action 4.0  syslog msg "host1 is now $_ip"
    action 5.0 end
    If you want to do something as a reaction to detecting the change, that would have to go into the "4.0" block (you can use 4.1, 4.2 etc)
    Another thing to consider is that this script would run every minute, so as long as the DNS query resolves to anything but 1.1.1.1 we would re-apply the config changes, which is not that good...
    A way to solve this can be seen in the next example:
    event manager applet HOST1-NOT-1.1.1.1
    event timer watchdog time 60
    action 1.0 cli command "ena"
    action 1.1 cli command "ping host1 repeat 1 timeout 0"
    action 2.0 regexp "ICMP Echos to (.*), timeout is 0 seconds:" "$_cli_result" _match _ip
    action 2.1 track read 100
    action 3.0 if $_ip eq 1.1.1.1
    action 4.0  if $_track_state eq down
    action 4.1   track set 100 state up
    action 4.2   syslog msg "host1 is now 1.1.1.1 again"
    action 4.9  end
    action 5.0 else
    action 6.1  if $_track_state eq up
    action 6.2   track set 100 state down
    action 6.3   syslog msg "host1 is not 1.1.1.1, new ip is $_ip"
    action 6.9  end
    action 7.0 end
    Basically we are using a stub tracking object to maintain state. Track object 100 would be up if we know host1=1.1.1.1, but if we detect it is something else we change it to down. Only after we detect that host1=1.1.1.1 again we change the track object back to up, which would enabled detecting another change...
    Any actions you want to take should go into section "6" and any clean up (when host1=1.1.1.1 again) has to go into section "4".
    It is possible to make this detect any change and not just have a static 1.1.1.1 value by assigning the newly detected value to a variable and basically look for a change... Not sure what is your requirement.
    The output below shows how this works...
    Router#show run | inc ip host
    ip host host1 1.1.1.1
    Router#conf t
    Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
    Router(config)#ip hos

  • Blank Event Filter for Receive Event Activities:  OK?

    I've defined an event group that is linked to multiple Raise events.
    My event subscription is linked to this event group, and launches a workflow process when one of the event group's events is raised.
    What's bothering me is that in Oracle Workflow Builder, for the Receive event activity, since I can accept one of any several events, I have to leave the Event Filter field blank. From the Oracle Workflow Guide, chapter 4, section "To Create an Event Activity":
    "Note: You can only specify an individual event as the event filter. The event filter cannot be an event group."
    OK, so that means I have to leave my Receive event's Event Filter field blank. I'm not inviting unwanted events this way, correct? Do I have to code to prevent this workflow process from executing a "rogue" Raise event?
    This might be a silly question.
    Thanks,
    Art.

    Mike,
    any chance a future DPM version can/will leverage SQL Management studio/SQL Agent for backup job scheduling ? I am sure many DPM admins who (may) know the significantly greater scheduling flexibility of SQL server agent would love to
    see this happen.
    The proposed workaround would require to build at least 6 additional filters (given the current filter uses the allowed max 7 days) and during 2 weeks in the year the unaware/unprepared DPM admin - may perceive the mmc crash as the beginning of the
    end.
    Please tell me someone is willing to look at the source code to get this remedied. I know this cant be a SQL problem since SQL server agent jobs run fine time change or no time change.
    Thanks for your ongoing help already.

  • Only an Event Filter for my Addon !?

    hi,
    is it possible to set the event filter only for my addon and not for standard function or other addons ?
    in my addon i'm usin a crystal report viewer. So i catch the Menu_CLICK-event 519 (preview) and 520 (print)
    But when i use the event filter on a special form, the event Filter is set for the whole Business One.
    For example, i set my filter on form 139. But if the user print on other forms (140, 133,...) the standard PLD should work !
    What is going wrong?
    oFilters = New SAPbouiCOM.EventFilters()
    oFilter = oFilters.Add SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_MENU_CLICK)
    oFilter.AddEx("139") 'Formular
    moSBOApplication.SetFilter(oFilters)
    regards

    Hi Rasmus,
    thanks for help. Everything works fine now. I made some mistakes with the bubbleevent

  • Call GET_SEARCH_REASULT service from scheduler event filter Iin UCM

    Hi,
    In our application, the mail should get sent to the content author on content revised date. For that, we have written a scheduler event filter component which will get invoked after every five minutes. In filter class I want to call GET_SEARCH_REASULTS service to get the list of contents and its authors to send mail.
    Can anybody please tell me how to call GET_SEARCH_REASULTS service from scheduler event filter?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nitin
    Why cant you try writing custom query and custom service ?
    Please refer idoc script reference guide for getting the parametrs to be passed when using Get_search_results.

  • Filter based upon results of another request

    How do I troubleshoot a Filter based upon results of another request issue?
    I have a report that lists every account that purchased a product in May.
    I have a report that lists every account that purchased a product between Jan - April.
    I have a report that lists every account that purchased a product in May and also between Jan-apr. The problem is it's returning Account Names that are valid for May but not for Jan-apr and I dont' know why. It filters some but not others, interestingly enough it seems to split it down the middle.
    Report A = 222 customers
    Report B = 673
    Report C = 111???
    When I compare A to B manually I get 94.
    Any ideas as to how I troubleshoot this?

    Worked it out ;-D

  • Event Filter Query Functionality

    An WMI Event Query Filter online solution I do not understand what to do. It seems to reference back to do a new clean install on my system, which I bought and installed a new clean system a couple of months ago and have been trying to recover years of lost
    Programs, Emails, Installations etc. Why would I ever need to do a third install of my MS Win 7 64 again? I have pasted the event below, not sure what to do other than another install, which I am not doing, for MS Support and my Laptop builder advised to do
    twice before. I can not fathom what a third installation would fix, cure or accomplish.
    OS=Windows Operating System,  ID=10, SOURCE=Microsoft-Windows-WMI , VERSION=6.1, SYMBOLIC NAME=WBEM_MC_CANNOT_ACTIVATE_FILTER, MESSAGE=Event filter with query "%2" could not be activated again
    in namespace "%1" because of error %3. Events may not be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
    Does anyone have a good solution that would work other than new OS installation?

    Hi Triman2,
    This is SQL Server Analysis Services forum, it seems that you issue is related to Windows 7. Since we are not the expert of Windows 7, please post your issue on the forum below.

  • Event Filter Issue

    My desktop windows 7 locked up twice this morning.  Has been doing it more often recently.  I found this twice in my log each at the time of lock up.
    Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because
    of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
    I've had to hold the power button down to turn the computer off.  Won't respond any other way.  PLEASE HELP!

    "skipAccountAndMetaDataSecurityCheck" is a filter EVENT.
    You need to create a component (Java) and hook it to this event.
    //Java class
    package MyPackage;
    public class MyFilter implements FilterImplementor
         public int doFilter(Workspace ws, DataBinder binder, ExecutionContext cxt)
              throws DataException, ServiceException
              //Some code here;
              cxt.setReturnValue(true)
              return CONTINUE;
    //HDA file
    @ResultSet Filters
    4
    type
    location
    parameter
    loadOrder
    skipAccountAndMetaDataSecurityCheck
    MyPackage.MyFilter
    null
    1
    @end
    Hop it helps.

  • Event filter for user form

    I tried to use the new method (AddEx) in event filter class to add filter to form that I've created myself by referring to formtype, but there is no filter done on this form. Anyone has encountered this problem before?

    The code to create the user form is
    Dim oCreationParams As SAPbouiCOM.FormCreationParams
            oCreationParams = SBO_Application.CreateObject(SAPbouiCOM.BoCreatableObjectType.cot_FormCreationParams)
            oCreationParams.BorderStyle = SAPbouiCOM.BoFormBorderStyle.fbs_Fixed
            oCreationParams.UniqueID = "MySimpleForm"
            oCreationParams.FormType = "MyForm"
            oForm = SBO_Application.Forms.AddEx(oCreationParams)
            '// add a User Data Source to the form
            oForm.DataSources.UserDataSources.Add("EditSource", SAPbouiCOM.BoDataType.dt_SHORT_TEXT, 20)
            oForm.DataSources.UserDataSources.Add("CombSource", SAPbouiCOM.BoDataType.dt_SHORT_TEXT, 20)
            '// set the form properties
            oForm.Title = "Simple Form"
            oForm.Left = 400
            oForm.Top = 100
            oForm.ClientHeight = 80
            oForm.ClientWidth = 350
    The code to add event filter is:
    oFilter.AddEx("139") 'Orders Form
            oFilter.AddEx("MyForm") 'my form
            oFilter = oFilters.Add(SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_KEY_DOWN)
    This code is not working.
