Event handler elements inside of the array

I have an array of clusters, of which inside the cluster are buttons. I want to be able to tie an event handler to these buttons ( they would all handle the event the same, the only difference would be the index they were handling)
A while back a similiar problem was posted here:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Array-of-Clusters-with-Graph-Y-Scale-Change-Event/td-p/1194181/page/...
However, this solution did not appear to be able to deliver the index of which button in the array was pressed .. this is critical for my application. The button is basically an "edit' buttonw which allows the user to edit the elements of the cluster through a popup. Obviously I need to know which cluster the user intends to edit.

nathand wrote:
One option: when the code starts, build an array of references to the edit buttons inside each cluster. Then, in the event case, search that array for the reference that triggered the event. The index at which the reference is found tells you which cluster to edit.
This might work, but it should be possible for the user to add/delete elements from the array so I would need to be able to do this even after program initialization.
Currently, I have just made dozen buttons alongside the array of clusters. But this workaround won't allow past a fixed number at program initialization.

• Event handler method definitions - whats the difference

hi folks,
i'm a newbie and have just started trying to get my head
around flash 8 actionscript.
is anyone able to advise me what is the
distinction/difference/subtlety between defining an event handler
method ON a keyframe as compared to defining an event handler
method WITHIN a keyframe.
evidently this is a keypoint to understand so if i don't get
this clear i expect it'll cause me grief later.
thanx for your response.
regards,
avonova

I wouldn't say ON a keyframe, that sounds like on a frame. I
believe you mean the difference between on(clip event) which is
placed on an instance of a movieclip or myClip.onClipEvent which is
code placed on a timeline/frame.
Thanks aniebel for that link. David Stiller is a genius and
really hit the point.
For me code consolidation is certainly the biggest reason for
it as well. But from that you start to see ways to put your code
together that are just better and lead naturally into OOP style and
concepts.
avonova – it is totally worth learning how to do it
this way. In AS3 you will no longer be able to use any of the
on(clipEvent) style coding. (Still supported in CS3 if you publish
to earlier versions of AS2 or 1.)

• WPF UI running in seperate runspace - able to set/get controls via synchronized hash table, but referencing the control via the hash table from within an event handler causes both runspaces to hang.

I am trying to build a proof of concept where a WPF form is hosted in a seperate runspace and updates are handled from the primary shell/runspace. I have had some success thanks to a great article by Boe Prox, but I am having an issue I wanted to open up
to see if anyone had a suggestion.
My goals are as follows:
1.) Set control properties from the primary runspace (Completed)
2.) Get control properties from the primary runspace (Completed)
3.) Respond to WPF form events in the UI runspace from the primary runspace (Kind of broken).
I have the ability to read/write values to the form, but I am having difficulty with events. Specifically, I can fire and handle events, but the minute I try to reference the $SyncHash from within the event it appears to cause a blocking condition hanging both
runspaces. As a result, I am unable to update the form based on an event being fired by a control.
In the example below, the form is loaded and the following steps occur:
1.) Update-Combobox is called and it populates the combobox with a list of service names and selects the first item.
2.) update-textbox is called and sets the Text property of the textbox.
3.) The Text value of the textbox is read by the function read-textbox and output using write-host.
4.) An event handle is registered for the SelectionChanged event for the combobox to call the update-textbox function used earlier.
5.) If you change the selection on the combobox, the shell and UI hangs as soon as $SyncHash is referenced. I suspect this is causing some sort of blocking condition from multiple threads trying to access the synchronized nature of the hash table, but I am
unsure as to why / how to work around it. If you comment out the line "$SyncHash.TXT_Output.Dispatcher.Invoke("Send",[action]{$SyncHash.TXT_Output.Text = $Value})" within update-textbox the event handler will execute/complete.

Thanks again for the responses. This may not be possible, but I thought I would throw it out there. I appreciate your help in looking into this.
To clarify the "Respond to control events in the main runspace"... I'm would like to have an event generated by a form object in the UI runspace (ex: combo box selectionchanged event) trigger a delegate within the main runspace and have that delegate in
the main runspace update the form in the UI runspace.
ex:
1.) User changes selection on combo box generating form event
2.) Event calls delegate (which I have gotten to work)
3.) Delegate does some basic processing (works)
4.) Delegate attempts to update form in UI runspace (hangs)
As to the delegates / which runspace they are running in. I see the $synchash variable if I run get-var within a delegate, but I do not see the $Form variable so I am assuming that they are in the main runspace. Do you agree with that assumption?

• What is the correct process to return errors from an Event Handler

I have a pre-Create and pre-Modify Event Handlers. If the event handler detects an error, I want to throw an exception back to terminate the create user or modify user event. I also want to display a meaningful error message on the OIM UI. In my pre-modify event handler I am throwing the following exception when an error is detected:
throw new EventFailedException(processId, null, "User ID not available", "", "MODIFY", null);
However, the OIM UI is not displaying the message "User ID not available" as I want it to. Instead it is displaying the following error message:
An error occurred. The corresponding error code is IAM-0080062
Does anyone know where that error code is coming from? My event handler is not doing that. Also, does anyone know where I can find any documentation on the proper use of the EventFailedException? What do the parameters mean? How do I get a meaningful error message to display on the OIM UI?
Thank you for any help here.

• Event handler eats up memory. Bad programing and/or bug.

Hello
I've been programming a GUI for a project. The basics of the program is a sample routine that updates a array once a second. Once the array is updated I use a event handler to plot the new array in a graph.
When I wrote this gui I think I've stumbled upon a bug in Labviews memory allocation.
If you have two loops. One that builds a array and then signals a loop with a eventhandler that reads the array and the event handler is stoped for a few seconds (by opening a sub vi or something inside the event handler), the memory goes berserk. When the event handler is free after the stop the memory is still allocated and does not return.
I could not find any information on this problem in the forum so I thought I would share this information with everyone. I managed to reproduce this phenomena in a small example (attached), if anyone is interested in it. The problem is simple to fix once you recognize the problem. However it was not the simplest problem to find (imho that is ).

Where are you seeing the memory being allocated? What tool are you using, task manager or LabVIEW profiling? I'm not seeing what you describe (LV 7.1.1 on a 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 w/ 1 Gb memory)

• Process termination in event handler

Is there a way to terminate the bussiness process inside an event handler? I would like to have a receive element Cancel which could be executed anytime during the process and which would terminate it. But when I place the Exit element to the event handler, it says that the Sun BPEL engine does not support this.
Is there any other way to do it? Maybe it' possible to use the fault handler for this? Is this feature planned for future releases of BPEL SE?
Thank you.

thanks for filing mark. Can you also send the URI of the bug? so i know which bug tracker you filed it in.
We deferred this feature for this release, We hope to get this in in the next release.
We do have support for exit construct in BPEL, but it is beta. What is not well supported is that when it appears in concurrent paths of execution. Hence the validation from the GUI.
What i can suggest is that you can disable the validations of the NB project and deploy it. You can disable the validation by going to the properties of the bpel project and "check/uncheck" the flag that says something like build with errors. hopefully there are no other validation issues. Bear in mind that this would be a beta feature, may or maynot have other issues when you use it in the event handler.

• Event handler for dropdownlistbox how to determine selection ?

Hello,
As a newby in BSP programming, I'm trying to build a small application with a menu structure . This menu is defined in a page fragment and consists of dropdownlistboxes. The event handling is located in the main page which contains the page fragment.
My problem is that I cannot get these dropdownlist boxes to work. The coding in the page fragment is :
==========================
<htmlb:content>
<htmlb:form>
<htmlb:dropdownListBox id             = "myDropdownListBox1"
tooltip = "Tooltip for my DropdownListBox"
onClientSelect = "alert('myDropdownListBox1')"
onSelect       = "mySelect" >
<htmlb:listBoxItem key   = "k1"
value = "MenuChoice1" />
<htmlb:listBoxItem key   = "k2"
value = "MenuChoice2" />
<htmlb:listBoxItem key   = "k3"
value = "MenuChoice3" />
<htmlb:listBoxItem key   = "k4"
value = "MenuChoice4" />
<htmlb:listBoxItem key   = "k5"
value = "MenuChoice5" />
<htmlb:listBoxItem key   = "k6"
value = "MenuChoice6" />
</htmlb:dropdownListBox>
</htmlb:form>
</htmlb:content>
==========================
The event handler ( OnInputProcessing ) code is :
==========================
CLASS CL_HTMLB_MANAGER DEFINITION LOAD.
DATA: event TYPE REF TO if_htmlb_data,
ddlb_event TYPE REF TO CL_HTMLB_EVENT_SELECTION.

==========================
I have tried several different event handlers including the example in the documentation of the dropdownlistbox HTMLB element, but in the event handler I don't know how to determine the selection made.
I would appreciate it hugely if someone could give me an example how to do this ?

• Event Handler not Working

Salutations!
My College teacher was telling me about flash builder and how good it is for mobile applications. I've never done anything with actionscript before and had my first foray into such a few days ago. However I quickly ran into a problem. I've drawn a rectangle and are now wanting to try and use event handlers. For now I was wanting to say add the event handler for clicking on the rectangle. When done so then run a specifed function.
rectangle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, RectClicked);
But even though there is nothing wrong anywhere in my application upon clicking the first rectangle, nothing happens. This is true for other mouse and keyboard events. My teacher said it may have something to do with having the student flash builder at College and currently having the trial here at home. It may not allow you to use certain functions.
Do I have to purchase flash builder first before being able to use certain functionality?

Ah... with all due respect, I think your teacher is wrong. To disable event handling would be somewhat traumatic for Flash which uses event handling as the core of its functionality. In any case, I am not aware of any functions being disabled on a trial version.
It is far more likey to be a coding error on your part, sorry. There are a number of possibilities:
1. You may have drawn a rectangle as a primitive (eg <s:Rect />) or as a Shape - both of which are IEventDispatcher but neither of which dispatch mouse events.
2. You may have added the listener at the wrong point in the timeline so that the listener isn't there when you click.
3. Some other, unspecified coding error...
I imagine the first possibility is the most likely.
Here is a simple pure actionscript clicker:
[code]
package
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
public class Clicker extends Sprite
public function Clicker()
var s:Sprite = new Sprite();
s.graphics.beginFill(0xff,1);
s.graphics.drawRect(0,0,50,50);
s.x = s.y = 50;
addChild(s);
s.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,rectClicked);
protected function rectClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
trace("Rectangle was clicked.");
[/code]
And here is the same in Flex:
[code]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.graphics.SolidColor;
protected function group1_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
trace("Rectangle was clicked.");
]]>
</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
</fx:Declarations>
<s:Group x="50" y="50" click="group1_clickHandler(event)">
<s:Rect width="50" height="50" fill="{new SolidColor(0xff,1)}" />
</s:Group>
</s:Application>
[/code]

• Global event handler for preinitialize

Is there anyway to add a global event handler on the
components preinitialize event?
What I need to do is to be able to enable / disable, and show
/ hide component dynamically based on a access list. My plan was to
have a global event handler that listens to the preinitialize
event, at that time, checks if the user has access to the component
or not. If not, I'll disable / hide the component.
What I did so far is:
in my main app.mxml file, I have:
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
preinitialize="preinit(event)"
so the preinit() function is invoked on the app's
preinitialize event.
Then I have the preinit() function (see attached code below).
However, it does work as there is no trace message printed.
I changed to use KeyBoardEvent.KEY_DOWN and that seems
working when I press any key.
I also tried to use the app.stage.addEventListener() but the
stage object is null in the preinitialize event.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you for follow up on my question.
I do know these two properties. But that does not solve the
problem. Let me explain it with an example.
That's say, when the user logs in, I loads the access list.
Then the app displays a panel with some form entries. If I am able
to register a global event listener for the component
initialization events, I can check the permission and optionally
hide some components. Otherwise, I would need to programmatically
travels my component tree to evaluate each component individually
to set there visible/includeInLayout properties, which is error
prone.
The problem is that the component is visible to one user but
would be hidden to another, so it can not be set at the design
time.
The approach I am using right now is to extend the default
components to add an event listener. But I'd like to know if it is
possible to register a global event listener to be notified when
any component is created. As my first post says, I tried to use the
systemManager and listen to the PREINITIALIZE event, but that
didn't get always get invoked.

• PostProcess event handler for trusted recon -11G Release2

Hi all,
I am disabling a user in post process eventhandler bulkExecution method. When the event handler is triggered does the user is already created at OIM? Do I modify the already created user? Or all changes done to any user during the orchestration process are commited at finalization... Can anyone tell me how things goes at the db side?
Thanks in advance
BR
Aliye

Post process event handler is fired after the user is created in database. You can verify by retrieving the usr_key attribute of user profile which is generated in database. So if you are disabling a user using post-process event handler, it means user is already created in database. As far as orchestration framework is concerned user is created during orchestration period and all event handlers and access policies are evaluated after that.

• Bug: RichTextEditor "Initialize" not classed as event handler

I'm trying to load the RichTextEditor control in a popup window. Here's my code:
var rte:RichTextEditor = new RichTextEditor();
rte.width   =  600;
rte.height  =  500;
rte.title   =  'Edit Text';
I need to add the initialize event handler so I can add a button to the toolbar (as per the example on the Adobe website).
However, when I type:
rte.initialize  =  "addSaveButton()";
Flash Builder says this is invalid as "initialize" is actually a function and doesn't accept any parameters.
Compare this with:
<mx:RichTextEditor initialize="addSaveButton()"/>
Flash Builder recongises "initialize" as an event handler and therefore accepts the addSaveButton() function.
Can anyone else confirm whether this is a bug with the SDK or not? I can simply add the button outside of the RTE for now, but then I'd have to wrap the RTE in a separate panel to accomodate the button, which isn't ideal.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
this is how to add the event listener
rte.addEventListener(FlexEvent.INITIALIZE,addSaveButton);
David.

• Event handler of inbound plug not called when plug fired by event handler

Hello All,
I have a rather bizzare problem, hopefully someone out there can figure out what is going on, as I'm rather stumped.
I have 2 views, A and B. They are linked by plugs, InA, InB, OutToA, OutToB. OutToB is linked to InB from A to B, OutToA is linked to InA from B to A.
There is an onActionLink in view A. Clicking on this triggers an action which calls the wdFirePlugOutToB method.
In view B some handling is done in the method onPlugInB, then wdFirePlugOutToA is called to change the displayed view back to A.
As far as the user is concerned they don't ever see view B. (this bit works perfectly!)
Now also in view A I have an event handler which handles a event from the component controller. It also calls wdFirePlugOutToB.
If I trigger an event in the component controller this event handler is called and the method called. However, when I put a breakpoint in the onPlugInB, flow never reaches here. Flow does get to the wdDoModifyView of view B but never to the inbound plug event handler.
Any suggestions as to what I might need to do? I would have thought calling the wdFirePlugOutToB method would ALWAYS trigger the linked event handler onPlugInB.
I am running NW04 SP18.
Thanks!

Hi Bharathwaj,
The project I'm working on has a requirement to allow for a road-mapped process (FPM) which has one step in which multiple screens can be accessed. I'll give an example: A user in step A selects the cost centre that they want to work with, in step B they need to maintain several pages of information about this cost centre. The do not want to break this information into steps, as there is no logical progression from one step to the next, and it may well be that the user wishes to go from maintaining screen 1 to screen 3, and then screen 2, and then screen 4. Stepping between all screens (1->2->3->2->3->4) wastes time and is not very user friendly. Step C of the process confirms the data that the user entered in step B, and Step D is the validation that the changes have been committed to the database. (a very familar 4 step process for those using ESS).
To allow for this requirement, I have designed a left navigation pane type screen. links appear on the left of the screen and the user can use these to navigate between different screens (implemented as FPM IVAC VCs) on the right of the screen.
It is quite an elegant solution (even if I do say so myself although quite complex to implement. I have relied very heavily on reading the code SAP put together for the FPM. The most complex part is that in order to update the the content of view containers in an application you must trigger a web dynpro view navigation by firing a plug to a different view.
Unfortunately I don't have any sample application code, only the finished product, which I can't really share. But I can say that if you look at the FPM code carefully, working from where the wdInit of the FPM is called, it will eventually make sense.
One thing I found slightly frustrating, you can't use the FPM's component usage register (FPM method attachComponentUsage(IWDComponent, IWDComponentUsage)) to add a VC... darned inconvienient really (you'd think that the web dynpro framework could have implemented the concept of extending an interface, but the IBLC and IVAC interfaces are different! - even though the IVAC is just IBLC + a few methods), but then again you can manage the instantiation of the used VC yourself and call the onInit method of the VC passing the current fpm reference, to attach it to a common FC, and given that you should be sharing context through the FC and never the VC, then really this isn't too much of an issue. (I spent ages worrying that I couldn't add the instances of the VC that I was using within my navigation pane VC to the fpm instance list, until I realised that it really didn't matter!)
One day - when I have time (yeah right!) I might put together a blog about this sort of stuff, in the meantime, it keeps me plenty busy enough not to have the time!
Hope this helped in some small way,
Cheers,
Chris

• Event Handler not Triggered when user is assigned by Membership Rule

I have defined a post-processed event handler for RoleUser Entity.
The handler is triggered normally when a user is manually assigned a role.
However, it is not trigger, if users are assigned through membership rule.
I have tried both the single execute method and the bulk execute method.
OIM version: 11gR2

Hi,
Check the list of orchestration handlers triggered for this operation in the Diagnostic Dashboard. Check whether, if your custom event handler is present in the list. If its isn't, then there must be something wrong with your Plugin.
Thanks,
RK.

screen display mode, not on hard-coded constants. The window title will be "Event-Handling
Demonstration". When the window is closed, the program will end.
The DemoPanel class will handle keyboard events using an inner class or classes. The
isFocusTraversable method will be used to allow the DemoPanel to obtain keyboard focus.
DemoPanel will collect from the keyboard all characters that are not action keys. Each time the Enter
key is pressed, DemoPanel will set the title of the Demo window equal to the characters collected since
the last time the Enter key was pressed, not including the Enter key. If the characters entered are an
integer number greater than 0, DemoPanel will set the current drawing square size (see below) equal to
this number. To set the square size, use a code structure similar to the following, where str is the
String of collected characters:
try {
squareSize = Integer.parseInt(str);
} catch (NumberFormatException xcp) {};

• C# control event handling with javascript

How can I get javascript to execute for "onchange" / "OnSelectedIndexChanged" event instead of a CodeBehind method? I think "OnSelectedIndexChanged" event has to be handled by CodeBehind; but how can I replace that (or onchange) with
a javascript event handler?
I have the following in my xyz.ascx file:
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlTypeCar" CssClass="BatsRefAddressTypes" runat="server"
onchange="javascript: testAlert();"
OnSelectedIndexChanged="ddlTypeCar_SelectedIndexChanged"
AutoPostBack="True" />
I could not get the javascript to execute, even though I removed OnSelectedIndexChanged="ddlTypeCar_SelectedIndexChanged" and/or set AutoPostBack="false".
Additionally, I tried added the following in xyz.ascx.cs Page_Load() method.
ddlTypeOfAddress.Attributes.Add("onchange", "javascript: testAlert();");
which didn't help.
Thanks for your help in advance.
