Event structure: have one event trigger another event

I have an event structure with two events. I want the finalization of the first event to trigger the second event. Both events are triggered by a boolean value change, say "boolean 1" and "boolean 2". Can I have a local variable of boolean 2 inside event 1. By changing its value, it should trigger event 2. However, this doesn't seem to be working. (see attached example)
any help?

Tim's reply is the answer you are looking for.
I would like suggest that you create a sub-VI that doesw the work in the second event you want to fire so tht rather than resorting to having one event trigger another, you can simply use the sub-VI that does the work in event_2 after the sub-VI that does the work for event_1.
If you decide to stick one event triggering another, please clearly document the sceme in BOTH events. What you want to avoid is latter deciding event_1 should be triggered by Event_2 and the next thing you know, your app hangs.

  • OIM: How do you have one task trigger another

When there is no response code...
For example, we're all familiar with the common Copy Data adapter we use to copy the input to the output. Very simple adapter, but there is no Response it gives that I can use to trigger another task.
Specifically, I want to time stamp whenever a user changes his/her password by updating a UDF. The task works fine when manually launched, but I want it to trigger based on the Change User Password task... which has no response codes.
I know I could do it on the Password Updated task, but I want to note even if the task fails (there are other RO's whose password change will succeed), and I don't want to attach the task to both the C and R in case of failure.
    Is this possible?

You could change your code that does the "Change" to use APIs instead of just passing it to the form. Create an adapter that has like Resource Name, User Key, and Form Field Name, and using the APIs, find the user's active instance, and update that field with the setProcessFormData instead, and then you get both a response code, and you have triggered the field to be updated.

  • Copy structure of one report to another but with new set of data providers

    Hi,
I have a requirement to copy the entire structure of a report into another new report but the new report will have a new set of data providers.
How can we achieve this in BO V5.1.8?
Thanks in Advance for your help.

    Hi,
First thing first Take a copy of existing report,
1.Open the report in edit mode.
    2.Click on the edit query.
    3.Click on the properties tab.
4.Click on the universe name and change the universe with the new one.
5.Now map the dimentions and measure of the new data provider to the old one.
    6.Run the report.
    Hope this will help you.

  • How do I make one function trigger another one.

The best way I can describe what I am looking for is to say that I am working on a project that once you click the button at the begining it plays a movieclip and has a few different scenes throughout the project. So what I need is when you click the button the first mc plays and when the first mc is done it triggers a second one to play without needing to hit a button. I hope this is just something simple I am missing.
    Thanks!

  • LOCAL Structure to be copied from one query to another query

    Hello all,
In our query we have created a structure locally....
we have to copy the same locally created structure from one query to another query which is on the same multiprovider.
We do not want to make the structure global.
Can anyone suggest some method to achieve this!

For copiying structures fom query to another you have to do it global. After that you can do click on right button on the structure when added to your query and choose "eliminate reference" this does further changes in the structure were local for that query.

  • Moving music from one computer to another using an iPod?

Thing is I want to buy a new laptop soon, and I'd like to move my music from my old computer to the new one, but I'd like to use my iPod 160GB as a hard disk to transport it, I've copied my music and video files along with other important data into folders I've created inside the iPod, it covers about a 3rd of the total space in the iPod. Question is, can I transport the music to the new computer without the system resetting the iPod to work with the new computer itself?
Last time(like 3 weeks ago) I had to reset my computer(the old one) because of viruses trouble and such, but I had previously saved my data inside the iPod, so I just copied the files to the same locations as they were in the previous configuration including the iTunes folders library files to a folder I created, then installed iTunes and then the iTunes library files to its own folder; it worked wonders because no files or playlists were lost, and when I plugged my iPod, I had no problems, but I reckoned no problems happened there because this iPod had been used with this computer already, so I wonder if this would be effective with a new computer.
So question remains, could I transport the files(all data) from the iPod to the new computer without it resetting itself and hence losing any of the data?

How to Copy and Move (Clone) your iTunes Library from One Computer to Another – or Archive Prior to a PC Re-Image or Reformat
This well-written iLounge Article is a must-read for anyone considering moving their Library to a new computer or a new location. Or, just wants a better understanding of how iTunes manages your music.
Below is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply and adapt it to your specific situation and equipment resources.
The safest, quickest, and most optimal method to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder (directory) structure, rather than just copying just the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important ‘iTunes Library.itl’ database file (usually located in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move (copy) the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "…\My Documents\My Music" folder from the old computer to the exact same place (both Drive Letter and complete Path) on the new computer. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will look and behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play Counts, Ratings, Comments and all!
Preserving and transferring the original Library Database file (iTunes Library.itl) is most critical with iPhones as they can sync with only one iTunes Library at a time. This is managed by the ‘Library Persistent ID’ hardcoded within each iTunes database file. If your ITL file has a different ID, your iTunes/iPhone attachment will be seen as a new Library and you will need to completely re-sync your iPhone. This may or may not be an issue for you. See how to manage the LPID via This Link.
NOTE: It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
iTunes Files to Copy and Move to your New PC (for iPod, iTouch &/or iPhone – use as needed)
    1) All Music Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) All Application Files in their current folder structure (usually located in the ‘Mobile Applications’ folder)
    3) All Album Artwork Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘Album Artwork’ folder)
    4) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    5) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    6) The iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files, also in the ‘iTunes’ folder
Some additional files to consider also include in a backup:
    7) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    8) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    i) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    ii) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    9) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”
    10) The folder(s) used to store and sync photos to your iPhone (if applicable)
    11) The iTunes created Backup of your iPhone usually located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
    1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step. Also great to have available for complete backups of your Library. External hard drives now run less than $100 for 500GBs-1TB of storage. See This Link
    2) Directly connect the two computers:
2a) Connect them through a Router &/or Network
2b) Directly connect using an Ethernet cable: Straight for using at least one Mac; or Crossover for PC/PC Instructions here.
2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. Example here. There are various types out there (use Google).
--Then copy the files from one computer to the other.
    3) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. It will be a bit easier if your iPod has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.).
    4) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and folder structure, and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
    5) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #4 above and load the files and folders on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
    6) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files and folders. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.
These are links to various additional instructions on performing the transfer (read them all, but some listed steps may not be required depending on your specific situation):

  • Transfering songs from one computer onto another...

My Brother has an ipod mini (as I used to) but our computer is so old that it can only hold one ipod (Therefore, I returned my ipod so he could use his). However, several months after I returned mine we bought two new computers, but still kept the old computer. After this I bought an ipod nano and have been using it on my new computer. Although we are glad that we can both use our ipods efficiently (on seperate computers) he is afraid that the old computer might crash soon. I tried putting his ipod into disk mode and tried transferring it to his [new] computer over a month ago, but it was too confusing and did not work correctly. Is there any possible way to transfer it without the directions being so confusing? Or could someone kind of "Translate" the directions for us?

Actually i have a database in the server and i am the client.
Client sends the id to the server. Server processes. finds the id and returns the name and other details using SQL statement:
select * from table1 where id="abc";Server should return these details back to the client.
IF no such id exists then server should send the client the following result:
//print that the given id does not exist and these are the ids and names in table1
select * from table1;How can i do it using jdbc odbc driver?
Thank you in anticipation to your reply!
Regardssee my reply to your other post.
write a server side component that opens the connection to the database, loads the ResultSet into a data structure, closes the ResultSet, and returns the data structure to the client.
the client should not be dealing directly with the database.

  • Is it better to have one Event Structure with more (10 or 15) cases or several with fewer?

I have several buttons and events on the GUI of my app to monitor. Would it be better to use one Event Structure with several cases (10 or 15) or have a couple and split the cases evenly? None of the cases have much processing to handle, so there is not a time lag issue. I am just worried about overloading the structure. One of the tech support guys mentioned that the event structures are not that hard to get confused.
Has anyone had any problems with Event Structures?

I use event structures very often in my code. I use them just to handle the interface and to run small code. I have had event structures that handled over 50 user interface events and never had a problem. In my personal opinion If there was any code to run I would let the event structure handle the the user interface event that fired a que in another while loop that handled the code. You can find examples on this, if not I will send you one. It is just good programming practice for beginners because it will alow you to build more robust VI's in the future.
    Hope this helps

  • Multiple event structures in one program

I know it's not good practice to have one event structure inside another event structure (I don't know exactly why). But if another event structure is in the subvi, is it safe? Please comment.

    guangdew1 wrote:

This is because of dataflow and the way event structures work. If you have an event structure inside an event structure, both event structures will accumulate events whenever one occurs, but it is unlikely that they can be handled in the order they occur or at all. By default, event structure are set to lock the front panel until the event completes, meaning that if an inner event gets triggered first, the code will lock up, because it will no longer be possible to trigger one of the outer events. If the outer event occurs first, it cannot complete, because it requires a later firing of one of the inner events before it is ready to handle the next event that occurs in the UI. Even if it marginally works if the panels don't get locked, you are requiring the user to trigger events in a certain order. How is he supposed to know what's allowed or not?
If this is not exactly clear to you, you need to start with a few tutorial and learn about dataflow, Then start using a single event structure and see how things work by programming scenarios and see what happens.
    guangdew1 wrote:

Event structures are only useful inside interactive subVIs that show their front panel. even then I strongly advise against calling anything interactive, or anything that takes excessively long, inside a main event structure. You end up with code that can become unpredictable, can deadlock, is hard to debug and flies in the face of all good programming guidelines.
Obviously, you have some specific application in mind where you think something like that is useful, I can guarantee you that there is a much better solution is you think about this a bit longer. If you need help, please describe exactly what the program should do and how it should react to user interactions at the various stages.
A program should always be approached from the code and UI needs. Don't start with a harebrained code construct (events inside events) and then look for a use. It does not exist!
Event structure only belong in toplevel loops. They should never be hidden insde squences or case structures (or other event structures as already mentioned above). If you have multiple toplevel loops that run in parallel, it is safe to place up to one event structure inside each. Each event structure can have an unlimited number of event cases. This should be sufficient to handle any programming need you might have.

  • Can you move events from one drive to another easily?

I've just bought an external firewire drive to dedicate to my Sony HD camcorder material.
I've only imported 30 mins or so of stuff onto the Mac's internal drive with iMovie '08, and would like to know if anyone's managed to easily copy 'events' from one drive to another to merge/split content.
Is it just a case of copying event folders from the iMovie Events folder to the external drive, but if so do you have to specify a particular path?
Similarly, can you just move the individual 'Projects' or archive to DVD etc as they will invariably take up lots of space for longer footage? Does the projects file just hold references to the assembled clips, in which case moving events would scupper things as I seem to have several movie files in there already though these may just be things I uploaded to .Mac to test out.
This may all be a bit of trial and error. Hopefully clips are only references unlike the pretty huge but self-contained iMovie 6 HD project packages. This also raises issues about how to easily backup all your 'events'.
    AC

    Observation:
Just imported 15mins of video from the Sony.
When you click import you are asked which drive to save to.
As well as the Mac's internal drive, all my attached USB drives which are formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled) appear as targets to save to as well as teh Firewire drive.
I selected the Firewire drive and don't recall an option to create a sub-folder. After import a new top level folder of iMovie Events was created, but no others.
Presumably iMovie Projects/Shared folders only exist on the boot drive.
I'm assuming that this structure will allow you to share movie Events between Macs using external drives.
Again, an assumption but I suspect iMovie scans all available suitable hard drives and checks what content is available in top level iMovie Events folders for non-boot drives as well as this folder in the user's Movies folder.
    Rambling observations over for now.

  • Moving Events and Projects from one location to another on the same hard drive.

    Hello.
I've searched in the FCP X User Manual, on this forum and in Google, but have found no explanation of how to do this, so I'm posting this here in hopes that someone in our community will be able to help.
I've previously stored my FCP X Events and Projects folders on an external 3TB hard drive, because there is more room on it than on the internal 1TB hard drive, but, since then, I've worked with other media apps, for video, photography and audio, the files for which are also stored on the external hard drive, and this has created a bit of clutter with no folder structure to keep it tidy.
I like an organised file structure on my system, to keep it uncluttered, easy to navigate and efficient to use, so I put all the files for my photography, video and audio apps into their own folders, which are, in turn, stored in their appropriate folders for Audio, Photography and Video, and those three folders are stored in a folder called Media, and then I directed each app to its own files.
The only app with which this has been a problem is FCP X. While there is a way of relocating projects and events from within FCP X, it allows the user to move them from one hard drive to another, and not, as I want, from one place to another on the same hard drive.
I'm not sure if it matters, but perhaps it's relevant to mention before the next paragraph that the files that had previously been imported as events are, to save hard-drive space, stored in the events folder as shortcuts to the original files, which are stored elsewhere on the drive, rather than as duplicates of those files.
In Finder, I copied the Events and Projects folders to their intended new locations and tried in the app to link the events and projects to their new Finder location. It seemed to have worked, until I moved the original folders to the Trash. On re-opening FCP X, it was clear that the linking hadn't worked. I returned the original folders from the Trash to their original location, but that didn't entirely reverse the problem. I noticed also that, in the original and duplicated Events folders, the shortcuts had lost their links to the original files stored elswehere on the drive.
Fortunately I had run a backup before starting, so I restored the original folders and the app from the backup, and all was back to normal.
I'd be grateful if anyone could advise me on whether or not it's possible to move FCP X events and projects from one place to another on the same hard drive with the app's compliance.
    Thank you.
