Events in Interface

We have the following scenario:
There is a Service Object that acts as a Facade (Facade pattern) for 3
manager classes that implement some business functions. Each of these three
managers are stored as private attributes on this Service Object.
For the sake of flexibility, these three private attributes are defined by
their Interface, not their class. When the Service Object opens an Event
Loop and registers for the events of one of these interfaces, the whole
partition crashes. Even when using the running man in the development
workshop, the whole partition crashes. The only way to fix that is to cast
the Interface to a class that implements the interface before registering
for the event.
I know it's possible to register for events using an Interface that contains
these events, rather then a class that implements the events. Of course, at
runtime you do need a real instance of a class that implements the
interface, otherwise you get a NIL-exception.
Does anyone have any experience registering for events from Interfaces? Are
there unexpected circumstances where it should work semantically, but still
causes Forte to crash. We're using Forte 3.j.1 on NT 4.0 SP 6.
Any help is appreciated.

  • Use of events and interface in class

    Dear All,
    Could you please explain why we use events and interface in class.
    Also please tell me the use of TRY and ENDTRY.
    Regards,
    Amar

    Events may be a way of communication b/w classes. Imagine you want to call certain code from one class, you would need for that public method, but you don't want to expose it to external user. So you may use events for that. Also events are used to notify that certain state of class has changed (tiggering event). Then all handlers of this event executes and react accordingly.
    Interfaces are a way of provide a service to class which implements it. Imagine that you have class office and hotel and gas station . They don't seems to have something in common. However, there can be some external energy provider which will be an interface. Each class which want to have a lease with this energy provided can implement it (the implementation can differ in some way), so he can provided energy to different classes. This way you will achieve polimorphism (meaning you call one interface method, but code behind it differs from class to class).
    Interfaces are also means of multiple inheritance. One class can implement several service (interfaces). In contrary it can oly inherit from one class.
    Try endtry are just new way of handling exceptions .
    Try to search a litte bit you will find lots of info on the above.
    Regards
    Marcin

    I am new to OOPs.I have a dought.can we use events in interfaces?

    Hi,
    Interface is only for definition purpose, so you can use almost all the properties of the class which defining attributes, methods and Events but you cannot implement any of these....
    to implement them you have to use classes

  • Fire Event Through Interface

    I have been using this interface
    public class InputHandler implements VoteListener
    public void onVote(Response[] responses)
    }I get the call back with out registering the class. How can I implement my own interface without the user registering their class? I do not know how to fire the events through an interface without registering the class.
    Edited by: MrGreen2 on Feb 5, 2008 4:01 PM

    What do you mean "registering a class?"
    If you don't care about which thread the events are fired on, the observable item should maintain a list of Listeners then call the relevant method when needed:
       public static void addVoterListener(VoterListener l) {
            m_voterListenerList.add(l);
       public static void removeFeatureListener(VoterListener l) {
           m_voterListenerList.remove(l);
       someMethod() {
             for (VoterListener l : m_voterListenerList) {
                  l.onVote(responses);
    }If you want the events to fire on the EDT, you'll have to wrap up the Responses into a Runnable and use SwingUtilities.invokeLater to enqueue the trigger there. If the trigger may alter the listener list, you'll also want to make something like the AWTEventMulticaster for your listeners.
    If you consider the "addVoterListener" method as "registering" then you'll have to find some other way to devise the list of listeners. But somehow, the obervable needs to know which observers are interested in the events.

  • How to define event hander interface in Class Builder (se24)?

    Hello,
    I've got the following local interface defined.
    INTERFACE lif_alv_grid_event_handler.
      METHODS:
        handle_button_click FOR EVENT button_click OF cl_gui_alv_grid
          IMPORTING es_col_id es_row_no,
        handle_double_click FOR EVENT double_click OF cl_gui_alv_grid
          IMPORTING e_row e_column es_row_no,
        handle_hotspot_click FOR EVENT hotspot_click OF cl_gui_alv_grid
          IMPORTING e_row_id e_column_id es_row_no,
        handle_toolbar FOR EVENT toolbar OF cl_gui_alv_grid
          IMPORTING e_object e_interactive,
        handle_user_command FOR EVENT user_command OF cl_gui_alv_grid
          IMPORTING e_ucomm.
    ENDINTERFACE.
    Now I want to define it as a dictionary object using se24.
    My problem is I could not find the quivalent of "FOR EVENT"
    word in it.
    Is there any chance to do that in Class Builder?
    Best regards
    Pawel

    Hello Pawel
    Display your class with the event handler methods in SE24 / SE80 and choose the DETAIL button (above the table control with the methods).
    Here you can define a method as "event handler for" an event of another class.
    On SAP release >= 6.20 you can right-click on a method in the tree view and choose context menu function Display -> Definition (tabstrip Attributes ).

  • Events for web dynpro UI elements

    Hi,
    In NWDS there are only a few event types associated with each UI element type. Say InputField has 'onEvent' event, DropDownList has 'onSelect' etc.
    So, for the Input fields are we limited to triggering an event handler to fire only when the user hits the 'ENTER' key? What do I need to do to trigger an event handler for say when the user hits a 'TAB' key ? Is there some way we can extend the event listener interface to add more events to an UI element ?
    Please advise. Thanks !
    Sri

    There is no event triggered when the input field looses focus.
    You cannot add your own events.

  • General Event Handling (Outside AWT)

    Hi all, I am looking for info on allowing my classes to send and recieve events between classes (the set of events is to be defined by me). What is Java's event handling approach? Is there something outside the AWT?
    I realise there may be design patterns for this scenario but though there may be some Java specific way as well (like in the AWT).
    Thanks,
    David

    listeners.
    like this...
    FooEvent <- your event class
    FooEventListener <- listener interface
    FooMaker <- class that generates foo events
    An interface for the listener.
    public interface FooEventListener{
      public void processEvent(FooEvent evt);
    }the class making the events
    public FooMaker{
      // among other things might have methods like...
      public void addFooEventListener(FooEventListener fel){
        // add the listener to some collection
      // called when events happen
      private void notifyListeners(){
         // notify each listener
    }and your listeners will implement the interface.
    does that help?

  • MDS 9509 - How to filter interface email alerts

    I have configured interface alert filters in the Admin/Events/Filters/Interfaces tab. In this tab I un-clicked the interfaces that I don't want to see alerts on. However, I still get email alerts on these ports that I un-clicked.

    I believe this alert filter only applies to SNMP traps, by unchecking specific port you will not be getting link up/down generic SNMP

    Hello everybody !
    I need to implement BTE PM000030.
    I tried to follow the howto provided by sap & in the forums , but I must be missing a step since this is not working.
    I have created a custom product in transaction FIBF and now I want to assign my own function module to this event & product.
    I entered FIBF->Settings->Of a customer.
    Now when I attempt to select the PM000030 Proccess which im interested in, It is not there, to be exact - most of the proccessing are not there.
    From this step, I found no availible SAP documentation on dealing with this situation.
    I tried to manually enter PM000030 in the field and was rejected saying "entry does not exist in TSP01, when trying to create an entry manually in TSP01, I get an error saying I should first create a data element for it.
    I dont really know what procedure I should follow from here.
    I would highly appreciate any help, Thanks!

  • Use of interface controller

    HI
    can u please explain me use of interface controller with simple example along with the code
    Thanks
    kishore

    Hi Kishore,
    Here r the few facts abt interface controller:-
    Used to control access from other components.
    Is created automatically when a component is created.
    Exists as long as its component is embedded in another
    component.
    This controller contains data, methods, and events that can be used by other Web Dynpro components.
    A componentu2019s interface controller can be used by the embedding component for mappings, eventing, etc.
    Interface for external users of a component: data transfer,
    eventing.
    Interface Controller
    One Web Dynpro Component may declare the use of another Web Dynpro Component to form a u201CParent-Childu201D usage relationship. In such cases, the only point of interaction between the parent and child components is the functionality found in the childu2019s interface controller.
    There is a usage declaration arrow pointing from the component controller to a child component. Notice that the arrow joins the child component at the top right-hand corner. This is the location of the childu2019s interface controller.
    At no time does the Web Dynpro Runtime interact with a componentu2019s interface controller. It is only ever used to form a Parent-Child relationship between two Web Dynpro Components.

  • Demand Planning : Event import

    Hello,
    Is-it possible to import Events through interface into Demand Planning ? In MSD scheme, there are some staging tables for Events, but I found no documentation on how to fill these tables (MSD_ST_EVENTS ...).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ct,
    AFAIK there is no official format available to carry data into those tables but no doubt a template or sql loader technique could be developed if the client was willing / needy enough. What kind of Event data are you thinking of loading? The Event forms look impressive when presenting the functionality of the tool but are a bit of a nightmare in terms of data maintenance and management (thus, no doubt, prompting your question). Have you thought of bypassing the event functionality and using a custom measure instead?

    Simon.
