Example format of M3u playlist on MAC - Going from Windows to MAC

If you look at the examples below, you will see that I am experimenting with different paths , fully qualified, From Users etc. None of them work. Can someone please post an example of an M3u file that you were able to successfully import into iTunes 9. An example file and the path to where you imported it from on your hard drive and an fully qualified path of where the music is stored would make it possible for me to figure out what I am doing wrong.
I edit the m3u files in windows, save them as MAC line end format with a CR, and in a code page for ANSI/ASCII. Is ANSI okay? Do they need to be utf-8?

    I recently had to get a new computer.It required me going from windows xp to 7 I am trying to put it one the new computer but I get following message  Windows installer could not be accessed could be in safe mode.How do I get around it? need it to charge my ipod on my computer.

    I have used PCs for years, and still do at work.  But, last year my wife bought me a 15" MBP with the anti-glare screen (I was getting ready to buy for myself).  It took me all of 1 week to completely get used to the UI for OS-X, and now I really prefer it over the Win7 UI.  I have no experience with Win8.  Here are my thoughts:
    1) You can get a good computer using either a Win8 machine or a Mac.
    2) You will pay less for an equivalent PC.  But not as much less as some would have you believe.  You need to take into account the all aluminum body of the Mac (vs most PCs being plastic) and the size of the display.  And, don't forget that there is a lot of bundled SW on the Mac that you will actually find useful and would have to purchase for the PC.
    3) You can probably do everything you need on the PC platform with the right SW (you probably already know this since you are using one already).
    That said, I think some things are easier on the Mac.  For example, GarageBand is a standard part of the Mac SW installation.  I got up and running recording directly from my bass into a track with a song imported from iTunes on another track in a snap.  I only had to purchase a Jam adapter ($99) for the bass so I could come in over USB instead of using the audio in port (which did work, by the way).  You can do the same on a PC, but you have to purchase the SW from somewhere.  And, it probably isn't cheap.
    I use VMware Fusion to run those Win programs I already owned because it was much less expensive to buy Fusion than to replace them.
    I would not return to a PC for my own use, given a choice.  But, I would be very careful about getting my wife a Mac without careful thought as she is not as tolerant of learning new things as I am.
    So, there you go.

  • Going from windows to MAC OS

    Hi
    I have an iPod video 30GB. Currently I am a windows XP user so it is formatted for that. However, I am considering buying a MAC. I was wondering how this would affect my iPod. I presume it will have to be re-formatted. How will this affect any music on the iPod?
    Pippa

    You can use your iPod formatted as it is as Macs can read Windows formatting. I've seen a few posts on the forum where there have been problems but these would be the exception. Have you thought about how you are going to get your music from your PC to your new Mac? There is a good general guide to switching from Windows to Mac at the following link that touches on moving music as well How to Move to a Mac - Get your stuff from your PC to your new Mac
    There are also these guides:
    How to move music between authorised computers
    Networking with a Windows PC
    Alternatively you could copy the music directly from your iPod. There's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
    There are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

  • Going from Windows to Mac

    My brother-in-law just ordered a new iMac from the Apple store. He's leaving it up to me to get all his files transferred from the PC to the iMac. I have an external hard drive formatted for Windows that I will use for this. He has an iTunes library on his Windows PC. Can I re-create the library on his new iMac using the external hard drive?
    On Apple's support site, I found an article explaining how to back up an iTunes library with an external drive, then restoring the library backup. Is this all I need to do? Will it work going from PC to iMac? Will any songs he purchased from iTunes be included in the transfer?

  • In need of help going from Windows SAP GUI to Mac/Java SAP GUI 7.20

    Hi Everyone, first post...I want to thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.
    I got everything working except for 1 out of 6 servers I need to connect to - of course this is the most important one.
    It all comes down to the conversion of saplogon.ini to the new file format, instead of using the GUI to make a list I have created 6 individual .sapc files that I run directly. I found some converters but only had so much success with them, nothing solid and 100% full proof.
    I'm going to post my windows config files and maybe you can tell me why logging into this system GP8 doesn't work from my mac?

    Hello John,
    please try the "SAP GUI for Java Configuration Generator Scripts" available at http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25456#section9 .
    For using the message server to connect to GP8, the information of the port number of the message server for GP8 is missing. For direct connection to GP8, it might work to use the connection string "conn=/H/gp8001.trans.de/S/3288" .

  • Going from Windows to Mac with iPod.

    Hiya.
    I have an iPod Nano (2nd generation), which I intially installed on a PC with Windows. I've just recently got a MacBook and I want to use my iPod with the MacBook instead. The only problem is that the iPod seems to be configurated to Windows so it won't allow me to update the iPod. Does anyone know how to change this so that it's configurated to Mac?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michelle

    Apple currently only fully supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. Essentially what this means is that to update the software the iPod has to be restored. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive with the Mac file system, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Going from Window to Mac

    Please help! My ipod has windows software. Iused it before on my mac and everything was fine. I recently updated to Tiger and mac wanted to do the ipod updater. It asked me to return to factory settings - I did - Now I see the ipod in itunes with no songs under it in itunes; no songs registering on the ipod either. Funny thing is itunes shows that 3/4 of the ipod is full. Help! What happened to my songs. Or why can't I totally erase it. I only want to use it on mac from now on.
    Thanks!!
    Patti

    Just double checking...I am changing jobs and therefore changing computers. From PC to Mac.
    I had posted this a few weeks ago and I'm just a little confused exactly what I need to do to make a "safe transition" I don't mind losing playlists just not music.
    Thanks very much!!

  • Going from Windows 7 to Mac OS 10.8.4

    400 GB of music on a NAS drive from my Windows 7 notebook.  I now have a MacBook Pro and want to access the same library.  What's the easiest and quickest way to do this?  Adding the files the traditional way will take a couple of days.  Do I have any other options?  Thanks!

    The "traditional way" (Migration Assistant) is the most likely way to work error-free.
    The next likely error-free option that would increase the speed of the transfer would be to shrink the library size before doing the transfer.

  • Going from windows to a mac downloading books on my ipod classic

    I got a new laptop and no longer have acces to the desktop that I used for my ipod classic. How do I download new books without losing the ones that are already on it?

    You should be able to switch the iPod into manually managed mode. It should retain all the media currently on it and let you add media from a different computer. However if there is a warning that it will remove the current data then you should probably heed it and cancel.
    If you can it would be best to extract the current content of the device to your new laptop.

  • Going from windows to mac...steps on what to do?

    Hi there, I have just ordered an iMac 21" which should arrive in a couple of days, I am currently using a windows 7 pc, it's mainly filled with music really, tbh I just had the idea of putting my purchased content from iTunes onto an external HD and just copy the content over (deauthorise my pc I know )
    To be honest I just need a list or  things I need to do because I will be selling my windows computer soon when I have my iMac up and running, is it just the purchased content from iTunes I need to grab and that's it?
    Or anything else I need before I finally say goodbye to my windows computer?

  • Going from Windows to an iMac G5

    My parents have just bought a second hand iMac G5. They have previously only used/owned PC's.
    Between them they own 2 iPhone 3GS', an iPad and a Nano iPod.
    Naturally I have been roped in to help set themselves up. I had a quick look at Switching 101 so I could work out how to ensure all their apps, music, photos etc that were on the PC iTunes would be carried over to the Mac. So far I have connected one iPhone to the mac but noticed that not all the apps were carried over. Before I continue and possibly stuff things up I thought I'd ask for help from the community. I've only owned my Mac for a year so I'm not a pro user.
    Thanks in advance.

  • What is the name of the Bookmarks file? I just bought a new computer and can't find the file to transfer from the old computer. I'm going from Windows XP to Windows 7

    I was running Firefox 4.1 on a 32 Bit Windows XP Computer. I just bought a 64 Bit Windows 7 computer and reinstalled Firefox. I backed up all of my XP programs and data to an external drive but I can't find a file for my previous Firefox Bookmarks. What is the filename and possible folder where I can find my old bookmarks and how do I import them into my new version?

    I have now got LR 4.4 and LR 5.6 on my desk top, Will i loose LR 5.6 if i uninstall LR 4.4 ?  thanks for your help

    You will not loose LR 4.4 but LR 5.6 has all the features of 4.4 with more refinement, so you might not need to use LR 4.4 .

  • Font Problems going from Windows to Ubuntu

    Hey All,
    I have an application that I am trying to support. It is a old(er) swing application that looks fine in Windows, but the font is all screwed up when trying to run it in Ubuntu in the offical sun release of JDK 1.6. I think it might be the same font family, it is just a lot bigger in linux. I also have the Open JDK 1.6 installed and the font seems to be fine under that. All my fonts are defined like this:
    Font font = new Font("<one of the logical font names>", Font.PLAIN, 12);I have read up on the logical fonts mapping to the physical fonts and have a couple of questions:
    1.) In the sun release of the JDK 1.6 that I have installed on my machine, I cannot find fontconfig.properties... I do however have these files:
    fontconfig.bfc
    fontconfig.properties.src
    fontconfig.RedHat.2.1.bfc
    fontconfig.RedHat.2.1.properties.src
    fontconfig.RedHat.3.bfc
    fontconfig.RedHat.3.properties.src
    fontconfig.RedHat.4.bfc
    fontconfig.RedHat.4.properties.src
    fontconfig.RedHat.bfc
    fontconfig.RedHat.properties.src
    fontconfig.Sun.bfc
    fontconfig.Sun.properties.src
    fontconfig.SuSE.bfc
    fontconfig.SuSE.properties.src
    fontconfig.Turbo.bfc
    fontconfig.Turbo.properties.srcIs fontconfig.properties.src file the same as the fontconfig.properties? What are all those other ones for? Are you supposed to rename them for your OS (like say you were on Red Hat 4, would rename fontconfig.RedHat.4.properties.src to just fontconfig.properties.src)? What are the *.bfc file?
    2.) Is there a way for me to tell what physical font the logical one is pointing at programatically?
    Font font = new Font("Dialog", Font.PLAIN, 12);
    System.out.println(font.getFamily());//Just Returns 'Dialog'3.) I tried to copy over the fontconfig.properties.src file from the Open JDK to the official one, but it didn't work... should it have? Why didn't it? Do I need to copy other file, too?
    4.) What font families do the logical fonts point at by default on windows? What about on Linux?
    I am sorry I have a lot of questions, but I am new swing. I have been working with J2EE and Linux for a long time, but now have to support this legacy app. I am just looking for a little guidance.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

    Found a solution. I installed the micro$oft fonts from the ubuntu repository and did a little refactoring. Instead of using the logical fonts, I change all the references to:
    Dialog --> Arial
    Monospaced --> Courier New
    DialogInput --> Courier New
    SanSerif --> Arial
    Serif --> Times New Roman
    And it looks almost exactly the same on ubuntu vs xp.
