Example web application

Hello
I found an example of an online bookstore at the folloing address:

I downloaded the zip file for Tomcat. However I cannot get the application running for my system, which uses the tool 'Ant' to build the directory structure.
Can anyone please help me.

Many thanks for your answer. I am fine but I am sure I will be even more fine
when I solve this technical issue.
I checked the weblogic.xml file as you suggested and it is OK.
I even tried to access the URL "http://www.bea.com/servers/wls610/dtd/weblogic-web-jar.dtd"
with IE5. I had some doubt regarding our corportate proxy. But it worked fine.
I can access successfully the dtd with a browser. I really don't see what is going
wrong. I attached in case of the weblogic.xml file for your examination.

How can make java servlet sent soap message to other java web application

i want to make simple servlet send soap message to other java web application containing web service????
for example
web application " A " contain web service add two number
java servlet " B " send soap message contain num1 and num2 to A to add them.
how can do this????

I tried that but my problem is that the code is so old. At least what I saw. I don't know how old is too old and I'm trying to do things "right." I saw code from 1998, but I don't know if that's still what you do. It might still work, but that doesn't mean it's correct. There's so much out there on Java that so old that half the time I'm not sure what to do because some other technology in J2EE or the latest Java SDK might have come up with a new way to do things. IIS 7.5 URL Rewrite: Hit specific page of a web application but should be redirected to another application's page

I have deployed 2 different web application on IIS 7.5 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 but on different port numbers i.e. one application deployed on port no. 1776 and another on 8091. I want to rewrite URL in such a way that if i hit any page of first
application such as default.aspx then it will be redirected to particular page of another application along with some changes in url.
Example: if i access any page from first application like:
http://g2wv126rbsc:1776/sites/main/commercial/commercial-solutions/financing/default1.aspx
then it should redirect to specific page of another application along with some changes in url:
http://g2wv126rbsc:8091/main/commercial/commercial-solutions/financing/default2.aspx
Note: In above mentioned url, also removed "sites".
I tried to create a inbound rule through URL Rewrite module (installed on IIS 7.5) by selecting Action as "Rewrite" but didn't find any success.
I need some examples if anyone has come across same kind of issue.

WEB.XML gives me an error while deploying a Web Application in Weblogic 5.1

I have a Web.xml which I copied the one from their documentation and edited for my servlet specific data. When I try to deploy it I am getting the following error.

SSO from Web Application to EP

Hi,
We have a requirement where we have to provide SSO from some web application to Portal (EP6 SP15).
This web application will be having link to portal on its pages.
User store for Web Application and Portal is different.
This Web Application can be accessed from Internet.
We have not yet decided about accessing Portal from internet.
Is there any solution to this? Is this doable??

there is not much to explain. It your web app side, you must have some matching table between webAppUser and the portal users and their passwords, like:
webAppUser1 portalUserA xy56123
webAppUser2 portalUserB g6324s3
Your own "integration" checks which user is logged on, takes the portal user name and password and calls the portal with the parameters "j_user" and "j_password" (and "login_submit=true"); for example via the client and a form where these values are put in and the target is requested per POST. And that's it. For the form (including the pwd) would be send to the client from your webApp server, you definitely should use https at least, as already stated.

Session time out in a web application

I am making a struts based web application. For session time out validation I have made an entry in the web.xml file as <session-config>
<session-timeout>1</session-timeout>
</session-config>
In case the user's session time out occurs then he should be directed back to the log in page.
Can any one tell me how to proceed in this case and what are the best practices.

I've tested it with OC4J and it works both ways.
I do think that you must have the
<session-config> tag present though for the setMax... method to
work, observe that this method is for seconds and not millisecond

I try to manage by my application the http session time-out.
Change it in a web.xml works fine , but if in my servlet i try
to change it using setMaxInactiveInterval(MILLISECOND) the result
is that the session became invalidate after few seconds instead
50 minutes ad example ....

2012 R2 Web Application Proxy returns 400 (Bad Request) for Kerberos IIS App

I've gone through all of the step-by-step examples for publishing applications with the Web App Proxy and I'm getting HTTP 400 when I try to publish an IIS Kerberos application. I'm using ADFS pre-authentication.
The application is SharePoint but I CAN NOT change the authentication method to claims based auth...it has to be windows integrated. I've double checked all of the SPN's and delegation. I get the 400 returned once the user has been authenticated and is forwarded
to the app url with the AUTHTOKEN?=blahblahblah query string. I've installed the ADFS certificate on the proxy and set it to be the external SSL certificate for the application.
PLEASE DONT JUST TELL ME TO POST THIS IN THE GENEVA FORUM FOR ADFS.

Deploy web application in jbuilder 9 with weblogic 7 problem

i found some differences between "deploy" and "redeploy" function in jbuilder 9.

ADFS Web Application Proxy - Automatically authenticate another federation

I am setting up a Web Application Proxy as a reverse proxy to publish some of our internal websites to the internet. I am going to publish
https://portal.workplace.example as the "hub" site which will link off to various other websites hosted internally. These sites are hosted on various different servers so I want to use the WAP to take
advantage of the SSO facility. This works nicely.
One of the links will be to Office 365. We are using IAMCloud's Federate 365 service (which is essentially a hosted ADFS service) to authenticate our users. Using this means that users away from the workplace
are not dependant on our internet connection being active to access O365 and that they will still be able to authenticate should our internet connection die. However, it also means that when the user clicks on the link on the portal page to Office 365 they
are forced to re-authenticate. What I'd like to is to pass on the credentials that the Web Application Proxy collects onto the external federation service automatically. I just can't see how you'd do it.
I have added the external ADFS farm as a relying party trust but I have no idea what I need to use as a claim rule so I've used a passthrough rule with the UPN as the claim being passed. I've also set up a
publishing rule with the WAP with the external federation's URL and changed the hosts file on a test computer to make the external federation's address resolve to the WAP's IP address but this just results in a blank page. I fully accept that I'm not doing
this right but I'm unsure of where to go from here. Can anyone give me some advice?

Ben (support) - We already know that's the case as you stated the 503 errors don't happen all the time if it were issue on the server the the 503 would stay.
Customer - so our 2/3 max concurrent users can max out the 200 sessions

Ben (support) - no that's not a time out concurrent connections are a little different then sessions and or connections. Lets say for an example you have 5 images on your site and 5 7 users come to your site this is not 7 concurrent connections but 35. They
do close after awhile hence why the 503 error comes and goes. You can have these connections close sooner using code but this is something you have to research using your favorite search engine

Analysis :
The link provided tells us : All Plesk accounts are limited to 200 simultaneous visitors.
From what Ben (support) says and a little extra research, if those aren't visitors but connections then it's quite easy to max out, especially if the connections aren't closed when finished using. I'd suggest forwarding this to Kasem to see what he thinks.

What's the difference between a web site and a web application?

I'm stumped trying to come up to a difference between a web site and a web application for myself. As I see it, a web site points to a specific page and a web application is more of some sort of 'portal' to content and information.
But where I'm stuck is that a web application is still viewed through a browser (is it not?) and a web site can still view content dynamically, making the line between web site and application prety gray.
For instance, does a web site using ASP.NET or AJAX (I assume ASP.NET is AJAX's proprietary sibling, if not, ignore ASP.NET AND concentrate on the AJAX), becomes a web application because it can retrieve data dynamically and asynchronously or would a website
using PHP and a CMS be more of a web application because it forms the pages on request, based on the request of the client and its content in its databse?
Or maybe I'm totally wrong here - what differenciates between a web application and a website?

This is totally personal and subjective, but I'd say that a website is defined by its content, while a webapplication is
defined by its interaction with the user. That is, a website can plausibly consist of a static content repository that's dealt out to all visitors, while a web application depends on interaction and requires programmatic user input and data processing.
For example, a news site would be a "website", but a spreadsheet or a collaborative calendar would be web "applications". The news site shows essentially the same information to all visitors, while the calendar processes individual data.
Practically, most websites with quickly changing content will also rely on a sophisticated programmatic (and/or database) backend, but at least in principle they're only defined by their output. The web application on the other hand is essentially a program that
runs remotely, and it depends fundamentally on a processing and a data storage backend.

There is no real "difference". Web site is a more anachronistic term that exists from the early days of
the internet where the notion of a dynamic application that can respond to user input was much more limited and much less common. Commercial websites started out largely as interactive brochures (with the notable exception of hotel/airline reservation sites).
Over time their functionality (and the supporting technologies) became more and more responsive and the line between an application that you install on your computer and one that exists in the cloud became more and more blurred.
If you're just looking to express yourself clearly when speaking about what you're building, I would continue to describe something that is an interactive brochure or business card as a "web site" and something that actually *does something that feels
more like an application as a web app.
The most basic distinction would be if a website has a supporting database that stores user data and modifies what the user sees based on some user specified criteria, then it's probably an app of some sort (although I would be reluctant to describe Amazon.com
as a web app, even though it has a lot of very user-specific functionality). If, on the other hand, it is mostly static .html files that link to one another, I would call that a web site.
Most often, these days, a web app will have a large portion of its functionality written in something that runs on the client (doing much of the processing in either javascript or actionscript, depending on how its implemented) and reaches back through some
http process to the server for supporting data. The user doesn't move from page to page as much and experiences whatever they're going to experience on a single "page" that creates the app experience for them.

How do I get info from Active Directory and use it in my web-applications?

I borrowed a nice piece of code for JNDI hits against Active Directory from this website: http://www.sbfsbo.com/mike/JndiTutorial/
I have altered it and am trying to use it to retrieve info from our Active Directory Server.
I altered it to point to my domain, and I want to retrieve a person's full name(CN), e-mail address and their work location.
I've looked at lots of examples, I've tried lots of things, but I'm really missing something. I'm new to Java, new to JNDI, new to LDAP, new to AD and new to Tomcat. Any help would be so appreciated.

By this time you probably have already solved this, but I think the problem is that the Search Base is relative to the attachment point specified with the PROVIDER_URL. Since you already specified "DC=mycomp,DC=isd" in that location, you merely want to set the search base to "". The error message is trying to tell you that it could only find half of the "DC=mycomp, DC=isd, DC=mycomp, DC=isd" that you specified for the search base.
