Excel Attachment via Email into PI

I have a shipping partner that says they can only email me a large Excel file for the requested delivery information (for R3 update).  I want to have the entire process automated.
I have seen a couple threads concerning using Conversion Agent or a writing a java module in order to parse an Excel document.  But from what I have seen in blog 1967, doing it with Java for a large Excel file seems like it would be a large pain.
Any suggestions or recommendations (Java module versus Conversion Agent or other)?
Thanks,
Keith

Hi Keith !
It depends on the complexity of the excel file itself, and also on the availability of the conversion agent tool and the knowledge in java development. Using Conversion Agent you will need almost none development (depending on the sheet).
Also another idea could be, that if the sender uses Excel, the also can export the file as CSV or XML, allowing  you to read it from a standard adapter into XI.

Matias

    Hi Chhayank,
    the problem is not the exported xls. If you have a look inside with Notepad or something like that, you will see that your leading zeros are exported correct.Excel-settings occurs this problem, it is all about how to open the document. If you use the import-assistant you will have no problems because there are options available how to handle the different columns.
    Another solution might be to get familiar with ABAP2XLS-Project. I got in my mind, that there is a method implemented, that will help you solving this problem. But that is not a five minute job

  • Sending a binary attachment via email, looking for a more clean way

    Hi experts.
    I finally managed to send a binary attachment via email. Why "finally"? Never done before!
    Also I got to manage the "not standard" .SAP file extension, because the attachment is a transaction link.
    So let me explain how i did it:
    take SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1, filling following input data:
      CALL FUNCTION 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1'
        EXPORTING
          document_data              = st_docdata
          commit_work                = 'X'
        TABLES
          packing_list               = lt_packlist
          contents_hex               = lt_hex
          contents_txt               = lt_content
          receivers                  = lt_recv
        EXCEPTIONS
          too_many_receivers         = 1
          document_not_sent          = 2
          document_type_not_exist    = 3
          operation_no_authorization = 4
          parameter_error            = 5
          x_error                    = 6
          enqueue_error              = 7
          OTHERS                     = 8.
    But how to fill lt_hex? Well I did not found a way to transfer text data into raw data structure (lt_hex is type SOLIX).
    So, here is the trick:
    fill another table, lt_bin type SOLISTI1, with attachment content (text data);
    dump lt_bin content to a file on application server, having care to specify TEXT MODE and UTF-8 encoding;
    now reopen the same file in BINARY MODE and transfer content to lt_hex.
    Why I did not use parameter
    content_bin
    ? Because SAP ECC 6 is unicode enabled (I think UTF-16) and file has got to be UTF-8 or ASCII. Also, packing_list for attachment must specify binary tranfer mode. And doing so each UTF-16 character (2 bytes) is split into 2 characters (1 char + 1 NUL byte). Attachment is now unusable.
    What is the question? Here it is: how to fill lt_hex data directly from text (UTF-16) data, avoiding conversion errors?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Excel attachment in email

    Hi Friends,
    I'm using FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1, to send my internal table contents as excel attachment via e-mail. I'm receiving the xls attachment via e-mail.  I'm using cl_abap_char_utilities=>newline to pass internal table contents line by line. This is working fine.
    But from second line onwards, the lines are right aligned. For eg. contents_bin-line is 255 character length. If the internal table line is just 100 characters, it is leaving the 1st 155 character space and starting from 101st caharacter space. I need the line to start from 1st character space.
    How shall i do this?..
    Please help me on this.

    Hi ,
    Use class  cl_abap_char_utilities=>cr_lf  as shown below .
    CONSTANTS: c_cret TYPE c VALUE cl_abap_char_utilities=>cr_lf . " for carriage return
    You can use  class CL_BCS  also for sending attachment thr mail.(Optional)

    How do I scan a photo to a file and then send the file as an attachment  via email.

    All of this depends largely on what printer /software you have, which Email client you use and to some extent which OS you are running.
    Most HP printers have HP Solution Center which is used to set up scanning,choosing where to save,etc. Once a file/photo is scanned and saved to the folder, open the folder.Select the file and at the top of the window should be the option to 'Email'.

    how do you send an attachment via email to another recipient who does not have a mac?

    As long as you send it in a recognizable format such as a .jpeg (or .jpg) used for most photos/images or .pdf used for a lot of word processing docs, there is no problem. Also, while in the Mail window, choose "send Windows compatible". It's not who or what you create it on, it is the format you send it in.

  • Sending an input pdf file as an attachement via EMAIL adapter in PI

    Hi XI Experts,
    Kindly request you to help in the below issue:
    I have a File to EMAIL interface in which the file  channel would pick up a file "Test.pdf".
    This file should be sent as an attachment to a number of receipients as it is without any formatting of the content.
    In other words, XI should pick the file and attach it as it is as an EMAIL.
    There is no need of any mapping changes.
    We are giving the receipients during runtime hence, we have done dynamic configuration.
    Kindly suggest how to attach the file as it is in the EMAIL.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Subbu

    Hi Subbu,
    Read this guide which explains about sending attachments via email.

  • Can we open an excel attachment via web frontend of SRM

    Hi friends,
      I am sending an excel attachment using the function module 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1'.I am able to open that in SAP Inbox(SBWP).I want to know whether we can view that attachment when if it is accessed via web frontend of SRM(It will be accessed via internet service BBPBWSP_SIMPLE, and not as much via transaction SBWP in SAPGui), but the details of the attachment need to be visible from both places.
    Regards,

    Most probably You can access this from SRM Portal.
    It would be good if you could post this in SRM Forum they would have given the answer by now.
    <i>Here is a shocker, how about try it yourself to see if it works. I think trying it yourself would have taken a lot less time than posting the question and waiting for an answer.</i>
    Please be a little liberal while replying to any question. He may not be proficient in this subject. This is also one of the Forum guideline to respect each other: <b>Martin</b>

  • Problem viewing Japanese characters in Excel sent via Email attachment

    Hi All
    I am using FM '''SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1'' to send out an e-mail attachment (Excel file). I am able to receive the Excel file successfully. However I am not able to display the Japanese characters properly in my Excel file.
    I tried to display some Japanese characters in my e-mail contents and I have no problem viewing these characters in my e-mail (I am using MS Outlook 2003). These statements becomes something illegible when I transfer it over to Excel as an attachment. In my Internal Table, these characters are displayed correctly as well.
    Anyone has any advice to solve this issue?
    Thanks for your replies.

    Hi Divya,
    refer to the link below:
    http://www.sapdevelopment.co.uk/reporting/email/attach_xls.htm
    The code in this demonstrates how to send an email to an external email addresswhere the data is stored within a .xls attachment.
    Hope this helps.
    Reward if helpful.
