Excel Cell truncation on long fields
I have some varchar2(2000) length fields in the database. I have a report that displays these fields, and when I click on the download link, the downloaded .csv file truncates the field at about 255 characters. I have looked at the file from notepad as well as through excel to make sure that it truncated. How do I get fields longer than 255 to export to an excel spreadsheet?
From Microsoft... limits of excel
Microsoft Excel 2000, 2002 and 2003
Worksheet size: 65,536 rows by 256 columns
Column Width: 255 characters
Length of cell contents (text): 32,767 characters.
Only 1,024 display in a cell; all 32,767 display in the formula bar.

Oracle Provider for oledb 8i & 9i truncates LONG fields
Anyone,
I have a situation where my Oracle oledb driver truncates LONG fields.
My application that runs queries using the oracle oledb driver.
The query is a join between two tables and includes a LONG as one of the fields retrieved.
When the Cursor Location is set to server the data returned is truncated.
Setting the Cursor Location to Client I can retrieve the complete data under specific cursor and lock types. The Microsoft driver for oracle does not truncate.
Note that a simple query without the join does not cause the problem.
Has anyone else noticed this? I know its quite specific.
Thanks
StuartHi,
I've got the same problem, i.e. SELECT a LONG RAW column from
joined/unioned tables truncates the column (via OraOleDB).
Unfortunately, setting ChunkSize to 65535 does not help me,
because data in a column are longer, then 64K (and are truncated
to 64K). Please, have you found any solution?
Thanks for any reply ..

I am using adobe acrobat 5.0. Is there a way to link the fields in an excel cell?
No, but you could write a little applescript to open the spreadsheet and go to a cell, save the script as an application, and put a link to it in the url field of an event.

Oracle OLE DB provider truncates LONG field's data
I am using Visual Basic 6, Oracle 8.1, and use ADO to connect to the Oracle database.
I have a problem with OLE DB provider OraOLEDB.Oracle reading a LONG field (MEMO field in Access).
When I tried to get the value of the LONG field, it truncates it to 100 characters.
I do not have the problem using Microsoft Oracle OLE DB Provider MSDAORA.
This is the Oracle table:
CREATE TABLE tblA (
tblA_KEY NUMBER(10) NOT NULL,
tblA_MEMO LONG NULL
This is the VB 6 code:
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
rs.Open ssql, adoConn, adOpenForwardOnly, adLockReadOnly
sMemo = "" & rs.Fields("tblA_Memo") -->> sMemo contains only the first 100
characters of tblA_Memo
How can I fix this?
Thank you.Thanks. I assume you are talking about 9.2 version of Oracle, right?
While we are in the subject of LONG field. In Oracle 8.1, I can not do the following sql stt:
select * from tblA where tblA_Memo like '%york%'
It gives me the error "ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes"
Can I do this in Oracle 9.2 ?
Thank you. -
How to export long formatted text from SAP to an excel Cell
I have created an object(ZMM_TXT_PD) and an ID(Y01) using se75 transaction.
With a Z program a store some lines in STXH table with object ZMM_TXT_PD and ID Y01.
These texts are very long and formmated.
Now I need another Z program in order to download all the stored texts in an excel file.
I have a program which is able to download an internal table to an excel. The problem is that
it only works with short texts. How could I download a long text that I get using READ_TEXT function
into an excel cell?
READ_TEXT returns an internal table like this:
i_tline TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF tline.
Thanks in advance.Hi,

Export specific Excel cells to Access
Hi,
I'm putting together a submission form in excel which will update a database in access.
I'm currently trying to use a macro on the submit button to do it but and while i understand the majority of it im not sure how to establish the connection through the macro.
Essentially im a VBA n00b and haven't completed a project like this before now.
So i guess my question is how would i go about establishing this through an excel based Macro?
This is my code for submitting the data into Access
rs.Open Sql, cn, adOpenDynamic, adLockOptimistic
With rs
.AddNew
.Fields("Date").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 1).Text)
.Fields("Agent").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 2).Text)
.Fields("Request").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 3).Text)
.Fields("Date1").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 4).Text)
.Fields("Date2").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 5).Text)
.Fields("Start").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 6).Text)
.Fields("End").Value = Format(Cells(50, 7).Value, "hh:mm")
.Fields("RDO").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 8).Text)
.Fields("Call Type").Value = Trim(Cells(50, 9).Text)
.Update
End With
If rs.State = adStateOpen Then rs.Close
If cn.State = adStateOpen Then cn.Close
Set rs = Nothing
Set cn = Nothing
MsgBox "Your request has been submitted." & vbNewLine & vbNewLine & "Thanks...", vbOKOnly, "John Smith"
On Error Resume Next
Call Email
Range("e11:e18").ClearContents
End Sub
But what needs to go before it to establish the connection?
Also how would i find any SQL addresses required for the connection to be made?

I am running Windows XP, Office 2007, and Firefox 3.6.13.
Whenever I have Firefox running in the background and I attempt to paste information between Excel cells a "Cannot Empty Clipboard" error is generated. I have attempted numerous other fixes for this: Excel and Office settings. But nothing seems to help. When I close Firefox, the errors are no longer generated. The Skype add-in was the culprit in my case. Disabling it fixed the problem. As soon as I enable it, the problem comes back.

Help needed with referencing single Excel cells and formatting resulting text
In InDesign CS5 I am putting together a 20pp catalogue of about 200 products. The plan is to have the product information, SKU code, quantity etc fixed, but have the prices (there are two i.e. pack price and individual price) being linked to an Excel spreadsheet. This is so that the prices can be updated in the Excel file and the InDesign file will pull the new prices through. In case you are wondering why I don't pull the whole set of information through, this is because there are a lot of copywriting changes done to the information once it's in InDesign - it's only going to be the prices that will be updated.
I am planning on having two single cell tables in their own text frame, duly formatted with cell style, table style and paragraph style for the two price variables. This I am then going to have to repeat 200 times making sure I link to the next row down in Excel. This is going to be a hideous task but I see know way of modifying the cell in InDesign to point it to the next row in Excel. That's my first problem.
My second problem is this. In the Excel sheet, the prices are formatted as UK currency and are therefore like this...
£2.00
£0.40
£1.43
£9.99
£0.99
£0.09
What I will require is once I import that data (and refresh the data via a newly saved Excel file) is that the prices end up like this...
£2.00
40p
£1.43
£9.99
99p
9p
So if the value is lower than £1.00 it needs a trailing 'p' added and the leading zero and '£' sign stripped off. If the value is lower than £0.10 it also needs the zero after the decimal point stripping off.
Then formatting wise, the '£' sign needs to be superscripted and the same for the 'p'. This I am assuming could be done via GREP?
In summary, can anyone help with the first task of referecing the Excel cells on a cell by cell basis, given that it is the same cell column each time, but the next row down, and also point me in the right direction of the price formattting issues.
Any help will be gratefully received.I would do this:
Create on line with the formatting.
Export as InDesign tagged text (TXT)
Read out these tags
In Excel exists a function to connect text from several cells and predfined text, there connect the content from cells with the paragraph styling tags. Do it in a seperate sheet. (Better would be to use a database like Access, there you can link your Excel sheet).
Export this sheet as txt file
Place this sheet as tagged text (there is an option in one of the sialog boxes).
In preferences < file handling you can specify that Tablecalculation Sheets and text is not embedded but linked, turn it on. -
Display Long field Description in 2 lines in Header when using REUSE_ALV_HI
Hi,
I am using REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY .
I need to have 2 lines in the header to display long field descriptions like
Ex Shipment Notification Idoc or Billing Document Cancel should appear as
Shipment Notification Billing Document
Idoc Cancel
Is there a way of doing this when calling the above ALV function?
Thanks
PrashantHi Prashanta ,
We can give headers in ALV using short/medium/long text.
And this comes in one line. You can use short/medium text, if possible.
Hence , having 2 lines in the header to display long field descriptions is not possible.
Hope this helps you. -
Convert contents of a formatted excel cell to HTML format
Hi All,
Background: I am writing a script that uploads some test cases written in excel into Quality Center. For those who are familiar with the QC Excel Addin, this script would do a pretty similar job except for reducing
the steps involved. I'm using Office 2007 running on Win 7 Pro.
Need: I have a situation where the contents of a formatted excel cell need to be converted to HTML tags representing the same formattin in the excel cell. For example a cell containg the text: "Verify
if help topics in Macro section are
hyperlinked" should be converted to
<html><b>Verify</b> if help topics in <u>Macro section</u> are <i>hyperlinked</i></html>
Question: Is there an inbuilt function in Excel/VBAn accomplish this? Or is a macro required? Any other ideas to accomplish this?
Note: Whatever used for converting (an inbuilt function or a macro) should support new line characters and colors.
Any help or redirection to solutions is appreciated.
Thanks, John.

WebDAV: Excel 2013 truncates the encoded URL at # (%23)
(originally posted in Open Spec forum, but was asked to repost here)
We encountered a problem on our existing WebDAV server with Office 2013. When a file name contains a number sign (aka hash, aka pound sign), Excel truncates the URL at that sign. Note that the URL is properly encoded, i.e. "#" is replaced
with %23.
Word and Powerpoint behave properly and have no issues opening files via URLs containing %23. E.g, for the URL http://server/otcsdav/nodes/1500722/doc1%23end.docx, Word first calls OPTIONS on otcsdav/nodes/1500722, then HEAD otcsdav/nodes/1500722/doc1%23end.docx,
then eventually a GET. The file opens successfully as "doc1#end.docx", gets locked, edited, updated and unlocked.
Excel, however, truncates the URL (http://server/otcsdav/nodes/1500722/excel1%23end.xls), and sends HEAD for /otcsdav/nodes/1500722/excel1, which, of course, returns 404.
Funny enough, double-encoding (i.e. to %2523) seems to work for Excel, but breaks everything else. I.e, with url = "otcsdav/nodes/1500722/excel1%2523end.xls" Excel sends HEAD for "/otcsdav/nodes/1500722/excel1%23end.xls", while Word will
send HEAD for the URL verbatim, i.e. "/otcsdav/nodes/1500722/doc1%2523end.docx"
Does anyone know it it's an Excel bug? is there anything we can do to circumvent this?
P.S.1 Excel 2010 works just fine, the issue first appeared in Excel 2013.
P.S.2 I know that Sharepoint doesn't support "#" in filenames. Our server is NOT Sharepoint, and "#" doesn't seem to be disallowed in WebDAV protocol.Hi Maria,
This forum is used to discuss questions about Excel for developers, most probably the issue is related to code.
According to your description, it seems the issue doesn't meet the topic. It might be related to how the server analysis the URL and find the corresponding file.
I have moved this thread to "Where is the forum for" forum.
Thanks for your understanding.

George.

Hi,
I have a table with many LONG fields (28). So far, everythings works fine.
However, if I add another LONG field I cannot insert a dataset anymore
(29 LONG fields).
Does there exist a MaxDB parameter or anything else I can change to make inserts possible again?
Thanks in advance

Since explicitely specifying all values for an insert is a good idea anyhow (you can see directly, what value the new tupel will have), you may want to change your code to this.

You are right. This table looks a bit strange. The story behind it is: Each crystal report in the application has a few textblocks which are the same for all the e.g. persons the e.g. letter is created for. Principally, the textblocks could be directy added to the crystal report. However, as it is often the case, these textblocks may change once in a while. Thus, I put the texts of the textblock into this "strange" db table (one row for each report, one field for each textblock, the name of the report is given by "ztb_nameofreport"). And the application offers a menue by which these textblocks can be changed. Of course, the fields in the table could be of type CHAR, but LONG has the advantage that I do not have to think about the length of the field, since sometime the texts are short and sometimes they are really long.
(These texts would blow up the sql select command of the crystal report very much if they were integrated into the this select command. Thus it is realized in another way: the texts are read before the crystal report is loaded, then the texts are "given" to the crystal report (by its parameters), and finally the crystal report is loaded.)

- MaxDB 7.5 Build 26 ?? Where have you been the last years?
> Really - download the 7.6.03 Version [here|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/maxdb-downloads] from SDN and upgrade.

The customer still has Win98 clients. MaxDB odbc driver 7.5.00.26 does not work for them. I got the hint to use odbc driver 7.3 (see [lists.mysql.com/maxdb/25667|lists.mysql.com/maxdb/25667]). Do MaxDB 7.6 and odbc driver 7.3 work together?
All Win98 clients may be replaced by WinXP clients in the near future. Then, an upgrade may be reasonable.

In the first MaxDB version I used, schemas were not available. I haven't changed it afterwards. Is there an easy way to "move an existing table into a new schema"?
