  • Opening an excel file in jsp

    how do you open an excel file in my jsp and target it to a table?

    can't it be done using the file class?
    i just want to open the excel file, that's all--
    Open means what ?
    See if this is useful
    String myDB =  "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};DBQ=c:/book.xls;"
        + "DriverID=22;READONLY=false";
    //con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:myExcel");
    con=DriverManager.getConnection(myDB,"","");
    dbmd=con.getMetaData();
    stat=con.createStatement();
    rs=stat.executeQuery("Select * from `Sheet1$`");//[Sheet1$]--
    I think it is not possible with File class. and if it is so
    then how you are going to handle the data ?

  • Download Excel file using JSP

    Hi All,
    I am working on a JAVA/JSP application. JSP page passes the user inputs to JAVA page (using POST method) which queries to the database and generate an Excel file and returns the link for that file. I am displaying that link in JSP page ("Your file is successfully saved. Click here to download or view your file).
    Now what I want is when the user clicks on the link, open/save dialog will appear which give flexibility to the user to download or view the file in same JSP page. The problem is I dont want to post again the data or dont want to open a child window. How to set the content type without posting it (I dont know much about this). Is there any way to do this?
    Any help is highly appreciated. Thanx in advance
    Cheers

  • Converting Excel file to JSP

    I have a excel file that needs to be converted to a JSP page.
    I know this is possible, but not sure what the fastest way is.

    There are two ways I know of to read in an Excel file:
    1. open an ODBC data source to the file. you can do this dynamically by passing in the right connection string to the file. After that, you can do a SELECT statement against the file. There are tons of examples on how to do this on the site. I think I even posted one as well.
    NOTE: The Microsoft JDBC-ODBC driver to read Excel files is VERY flaky. For instance, if some of your Excel cells have text and some have numeric values, the driver will convert the entire column to one or the other based on what the first few values are. This causes major problems for some people. I've also found that empty cells, lines, etc... cause errors that are hard to recover from.
    2. Use a package such as ExcelRead. This free package is very clever, and reads the Excel file very reliably. It is very easy to use as well.

  • Open Excel file in JSP

    Hi All,
    My action class is returning an String Object on the JSP.
    In JSP I am getting this String object in Request which is coming like
    1,2,3,4,5.................
    now I have to display this in the EXCEL file
    Can we do this..
    Any help is really appriciated
    Thanks in advance.
    Kumar

    I haven't done it using JSP but in a servlet you can set a response header, then return the data as a HTML table and Excel will parse it.
    The servlet code to set the header is
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");

  • Open an excel file from jsp

    Hi,
    I want to open an excel file on click of a link in the jsp.
    At present iam using href which i feel is not correct as it is not able to recognize the excel format and paints the entire screen with special characters.Can anyone please help me out.
    Thanks,

    In your server, there should be some way to tell the server the mime type of a file based on the file's extension. So, you tell the server for every file with the extension of .xls, it should use the mime type of application/vnd.ms-excel. Then, when the link is clicked on, the browser will receive the mime-type message of application/vnd.ms-excel and will open Excel to work with the file.
    Hope this helps,
    Ron

  • Excel size becomes large while creating excel file in jsp using content typ

    Hi All,
    I created an excel using jsp by setting content type as excel, the size of the excel is coming nearly around 5MB. If copy the content of that 5MB excel content and paste it and created another excel directly. The size of the new excel is coming around 1 MB.
    It will be great if any body reply me as soon as possible.

    HBhagya wrote:
    I created an excel using jsp by setting content type as excelYou don't create an Excel file that way. You're just fooling the web browser that it is an Excel file so that it will try to use the associated application for that which on its turn is too forgiving that it accepts HTML.
    Look for a Java Excel API to create a real Excel file. Examples: Apache POI HSSF, JExcelAPI, OpenXML4J. Or just use the CSV file format, although you can write it yourself easily, there are API's out as well. Examples: CSV4J, JavaCSV, OpenCSV.

  • Error in Open Excel Files from JSP..it display Eksponen...

    How to set Excel format in JSP? - Error in Eksponen.
    Hi, i have a problem.
    I am using JSP to select data from database and open it as an Excel file.
    It works perfectly, but the problem is,
    when the data is NUMBER (even though in JSP, i declare it as a String), in the Excel file, when the data is more than 10, the data will change to Eksponen value.
    Should be = 982520000324464
    but in Excel is = 9.8252E+14
    Can anybody help?

    Depending on how you are generating the Excel file there are different solutions.
    If you are generating the Excel file using contentType="application/vnd.ms-excel" and HTML tables, then you can use the following attribute on the cell you wish to format:
    <TD style="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:#,##0;">24.562234</TD>where the #,##0 corresponds to the format you wish to present the data in.

  • Display excel file from jsp

    hi i am trying to read an excel file from a location on the app server and display it in the browser (ie). the excel file should open up and not display the open/save dialog.
    following is the code that i am using. i am not able to get it to work. getting an illegalstateexception and also i am getting all garbage diplayed in the browser. no excel. kindly help.
    <%@ page import="java.io.*" contentType="application/vnd.ms-excel"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/sapphire.tld" prefix="sapphire" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/c.tld" prefix="c" %>
    <%
    //response.reset();
    //response.setHeader("Pragma", "no-cache");
    //response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache");
    //response.setDateHeader("Expires", 0L);
    ServletOutputStream so = response.getOutputStream();
    String filename = "C:\\example1.xls";
    String mimetype = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
    ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    InputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(filename));
    byte bytebuff[] = new byte[500];
    for(int lengthread = 0; (lengthread = in.read(bytebuff)) != -1;){
    output.write(bytebuff, 0, lengthread);
    byte data[] = output.toByteArray();
    response.setContentType(mimetype);
    so.write(data);
    in.close();
    so.close();
    %>

    A JSP calls getWriter() by default.
    Every time you have a carriage return outside <% %> it gets written to the writer.
    The Illegal state exception would be because you are getting the outputStream after the writer.
    This is better done in a servlet, but can be done in a JSP, try it with code like this:
    <%@ page import="java.io.*" contentType="application/vnd.ms-excel"
    %><%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/sapphire.tld" prefix="sapphire"
    %><%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/c.tld" prefix="c"
    %><%
    %> Note that there is no text at all outside of the <% %> (not even carriage returns)
    Also, why are you writing to a ByteArrayOutputStream (ie into a memory byte array), and then writing the byte array to the servletoutputstream?
    Just put a buffer around the servlet outputstream and write directly to that.
    ServletOutputStream so = response.getOutputStream();
    BufferedOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream(so);
    ...

  • How to download Excel file in JSP Page

    Actually I have a page
    Where I am uploading the files to server and it is listing the files which are all uploaded to the server.
    If I try to click the file which is uploaded it has to download to the local system.
    DOC, TXT, PDF, PPT. These file formats are try to download to local. But Excel file, opening the file content only not downloading to local.
    Any solution

    Hi Bangalore:
    As my experience,there may be some symbol such as "\r\n" was added in the content of the Excel file you want to download. this is no porblems to text format file, but to binary format file, such file can not be open. So I suggest you check-up the content of the file befor it was writed to the client, remove unwanted symbol, it should be word!
    I'm a newer to the here , and my english is poor. I thirst for intercommunion, I'm sorry for the syntax error in my reply.

  • Opening an Excel File using Excel 97 from a JSP populated page(Urgent)

    Hello,
    I am using a JSP Page to populate data from the DB.
    When I am opening the same as an Excel File the JSP code is coming as the Excel page whenever Excel 97 is being used,but when Excel2000 or 2003 is being used then the data are coming as Excel formatted.I used the following code(JSP) :
    <head>
    <%
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","inline; filename=ExtractData.xls");
    %>
    </head>

    I can't even tell what the difference is between "coming as the Excel page" and "coming as Excel formatted". But then when people make urgent posts they very rarely spend the time to describe the problem accurately. Why bother when it's so damn urgent?

    Thanks in advance !!!

    Hi,
    In my application , we have Excel files on the server i.e we are not creating excel sheets.
    I just want to display these static excel files through a jsp.
    I am able to display the excel files by reading them into ByteArrayOutputStream
    <%
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=B.xls");
    ServletOutputStream so = response.getOutputStream();

    ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    InputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(filename));

    byte data[] = output.toByteArray();
    response.setContentType(mimetype);
    so.write(data);
    in.close();
    so.close();
    %>But my question is that , do i really need to do all this for rendering excel through a jsp.
    Can't i do it by just setting the content type ?
    Thanks

  • Another question about import/export to excel file?

    Hi, I need to know urgently if it's possible to import/export excel files from/to JSP with unpredicted number of fields each row. For example, row 1 in the excel file can have 5 columns of data, row 2 has 3 columns of data, etc...
    Does reading from excel file in JSP require that we know beforehand how many columns there are and what each column represent?

    go read http://jakarta.apache.org/poi !!!!!!
    No it doesnt. the POI api provide method to determine the number of cells in a row.
