  • WIS 10883 using large Excel File as source for report in WebI RichClient

    Hi,
I'm trying to use a relatively large Excel 2003 file, say 7000 rows and 19 columns, as a source for a report in WebI Rich Client. When selecting a range of only 1500 records and 19 columns everything works, when accessing the full 7000 (or originally 30,000) I get this error message.
Does anybody know of a size limit for this and if so an option to adjust it? The only resources for this very limited.
    Thanks
    Norman Ruppert

    Tina,
I'm not sure why you are so negative to having Excel in the mix.
Excel is only used at development time - its mearly used as a design interface to build the xcelsius model that feeds data and controls components within the flash file that xcelsius generates.
Excel is not used at run time in any way (unless one uses a third party connector to use an XLS as a data source of course).
If you attempt to use xceslius without using the OLE embeded Excel sheet at design time you will only be able to create VERY simplistic dashboards.
The new connectivity in version 4 just removes a design step to make development simpler my combining direct to components - but behind the sceens i believe it is really only connecting to a hidden part of the model not shown the the Excel interface at design time!
i think we would all agree that having excel can be a pain at design time (especially those that used/use live office!) but it does offer a pretty good interface for building very intuative looking models behind your flash components.
    cheers,
    Jeremy.

  • Create key mapping using import manager for lookup table FROM EXCEL file

    hello,
i would like create key mapping while importing the values via excel file.
the source file containing the key, but how do i map it to the lookup table?
the properties of the table has enable the creation of mapping key. but during the mapping in import manager, i cant find any way to map the key mapping..
    eg
    lookup table contains:
    Material Group
    Code
    excel file contain
    MatGroup1  Code   System
    Thanks!
    Shanti

    Hi Shanti,
Assuming you have already defined below listed points
    1)  Key Mapping "Yes" to your lookup table in MDM Console
    2) Created a New Remote System in MDM console
    3) proper rights for your account for updating the remote key values in to data manager through import manager.
Your sample file can have Material Group and Code alone which can be exported from Data Manager by File-> Export To -> Excel, if you have  data already in Data Manager.
Open your sample file through Import Manager by selecting  the remote system for which you want to import the Key mapping.
(Do Not select MDM as Remote System, which do not allows you to maintain key mapping values) and also the file type as Excel
Now select your Soruce and Destination tables, under the destination fields you will be seeing a new field called [Remote Key]
Map you source and destination fields correspondingly and Clone your source field code by right clicking on code in the source hierarchy and map it to Remote Key if you want the code to be in the remote key values.
And in the matching criteria select destination field code as a Matching field and change the default import action to Update NULL fields or UPDATED MAPPED FIELDS as required,
After sucessfull import you can check the Remote Key values in Data Manager.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Reason to set MaxErrorCount along with Propogate value for Excel Files

    Hi,
I had an ETL earlier which processed CSV files from a folder. The requirement was to load the error files into a Rejected folder but continue to process all the files from the source Folder. This requirement was satisfied by setting the value of the
system variable "Propogate" in EventHandler section for DataFlowTask to "false".
MaxErrorCount value for the ForEach Loop is having its default value as "1".
When tested, it was working perfectly fine
Now currently there is an Excel file as source having same requirement as above. But even when then variable "Propogate" was set to "false" as above, the execution was getting stopped when an error file was found.
Later I found the below link :
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/0065b5c2-f633-4cbf-81f9-031d1ed25555/how-to-skip-wrong-excel-files-ignore-errors-on-ssis-foreach-task
As mentioned in the link, I have done below changes
1)Set MaxErrorCount for ForEachLoop to 1000
2)"Propogate" variable is set to false
Now this is working perfectly fine.
Can you please let me know why did the setting of "Propogate" worked for CSV but did not work for Excel. For Excel files why was an additional setting for MaxErrorCount  was required.
It would be very much helpful if I can get a detail information on the above
    Thanks,
    Raksha
    Raksha

    Hi Raksha,
In you SSIS package, setting the Propagate system variable to False of the Event Handler prevents the Data Flow Task (DFT) propagating its failure to its parent container. For the ValidateMetadata property of a Data Flow Task Component, it doesn’t only affect
the DFT at design time but also at runtime. During the Validation phase, a component is supposed to check to make sure that the cached metadata in the package is still in sync with the underlying table/view/query. If there is a mismatch, the component returns
a special status (VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA). When this happens at design-time, SSIS triggers a metadata refresh by calling ReinitializeMetadata(). At runtime, this results in an error.
In your scenario, by setting the ValidateMetadata property to false, the error of the DFT is avoided, hence, you don’t need to set the MaxErrorCount to a value more than 1.
For more information about how ValidateMetadate property works, please see Matt’s answer in the following thread:

  • Not able to add an excel file as data source to create new values in the mapped domain

    Hi
I am trying to use some sample data from an Excel file to improve the quality of a Knowledge Base I have created in the Data Quality Client. I followed the following steps:
    Knowledge Discovery
    Data Source: Excel File
Browsed to the Excel File on my local drive.
I'm getting the following error: Failed reading Excel File
I have checked the security settings, and provided full control to the user. I'm not sure as to what is the issue here. I
am totally new in this field and with my little knowledge trying to build a Knowledge Base. But the hurdle stopped me.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi
You can add a  Excel file as the data source for a universe,  below are the steps.
Ensure that the following steps are done before inserting a table from Excel sheet into a universe.
    1. Go to Excel and highlight all the cells that you want in the same table.
    2. Go to the Name box from Insert->Name->Define and give a name (in Designer, you see this name as a table of all the values you have selected).
    3. Go to Designer and pop up the table browser. You have to drag and drop the name you gave.
and check the SP of ur BO.
you can use .xls file as datasource but you cannot use .xlsx(windows 2007) .

  • Using an Excel file as a dynamic data source? Opinions needed...

I have posted this topic before, but as always; in order to get the relevant correct answer you have to ask the correct question.
I'm trying to create a number of Pricelists linked to an Excel/CSV file. I have a Excel file that contains Pricelist information which is Product specific.
I have had a number of suggestion that follow:
A direct link to the Excel file. PROs: Excel file can be uploaded on FTP and overwritten if (and when) amended. Linking this is easy peasy in Dreamweaver. Person browsing can download info straight away on request - no hassle. CONs: Simply, not everyone has Excel and those who don't can not access the information.
Import Excel file as tabular data. PROs: Fairly easy to do in Dreamweaver. Person browsing can see info straight away. CONs: Can be time consuming on larger Excel files. NOT amendable (so a number of price changes becomes a big job). Can't simply overwrite Excel file on FTP. Larger Excel files can take a lot of page space and thus require tonnes of scrolling).
Use the Excel file as a dynamic data source. --Not entirely sure how I would go about doing this (any suggestions/links/tutorials etc)-- PROs: ? CONs: Contributor added this suggestion is not a good idea as it performs poorly on the web.
Create a dynamic page using a database and import the Excel file to that....or maintain the price list in the database rather than an Excel file. --Again not entirely sure how I would go about doing this (any suggestions/links/tutorials etc)-- My understanding of this option is that it will require XML data and SPRY work. Is this correct? Can this be someone who is not an advanced user?
If once again, I'm off the mark and better suggestions can be thought - please do so.
As you can see I'm at a bit of a crossroads so an suggestions, comment, help, links, tutorials or applause would be greatly received.
Thanks in advance and looking forward to seeing the comments this throws up!

    Hi
Although not everyone has excel just about everyone can open csv files in some way, if not offer the option to download "open office" which is free for the pc, as for the mac they have a program installed by default to use csv files.
The import tabular data is not really an option for the reasons stated.
Use excel as data source - not a good idea, requires asp.net to work correctly otherwise it does run slow and is not recommended if you are expecting more than a very small number of users.
As for the dynamic with database, this can be done with xml and spry but if you have a large amount of data this is almost as bad as the option above. You are probably better creating a database and importing your excel spreadsheet into this, for tutorials on creating a php/mysql database and set-up of testing server see - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/application_development.html.
No matter which way you go with the last option it will require a fair amount of knowledge and experience to do correctly, efficiently and securely.

  • Connecting an excel file as a database source in crystal

    Hi
I have crystal 2011 on my pc and I can easily access information in an excel file by connecting it as a data source.
However, when i copy the excel file onto the SAP server and try to connect to the excel file there, it connects ok
but there is only displays Add Command and i can access Final Budget Table.
I know it is probably a simple issue but i cant seem to see it.
The server is using crystal 2008 and does not have excel installed.
The excel file has been into the same folder the report exists in.
I will eventually want to run this report through Inforview, what way does that work with regards the excel file?
    Thanks
    Rachael

    Hi Rachael,
Go to the Database Expert > Right-click the connection name > Select Options > Make sure there is nothing typed in under 'Table Name LIKE'.

  • Unable to Connect to the Data Source with Report Builder when using a closed Excel file

I am using Report Builder 3.0 and to get started I am using an Excel spreadsheet as my data source.  I set this up just fine.  I can connect successfully if the file is open Excel.  But if I close the file, I get the error "Unable to
    Connect to the data source".
    This is my connection string:
    Dsn=Licenses;dbq=C:\USERS\AMEADE\DOCUMENTS\licenses.xlsx;defaultdir=C:\USERS\AMEADE\DOCUMENTS;driverid=790;fil=excel 8.0;maxbuffersize=2048;pagetimeout=5
Works fine if the file is open but stops working when the file is closed.  Any idea what I can do?

    Hi Alice,
Based on my understanding, when you keep the Excel file open, you can connect to the data source correctly. But when you close the Excel file, the error “Unable to Connect to the data source” is thrown out.
In your scenario, I would like to know if only this Excel comes across this issue. Have you experienced the same issue when you use other Excel files as a data source? As we tested in our environment, we can connect to the data source whether the Excel file
is open. You can refer to this
article to create a data source again then check if you can connect to the data source when the Excel file is closed.
If issue persists, I would suggest you use the
Process Monitor to capture the processes during the connection to the data source. Then check the result of each process to find the exact reason.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Multiple excel files - ODBC Data Source Administrator

I have about 1750 excel files that I need to convert to text format.
Is it possible to ... configure all files in the ODBC Data Source Administrator window?

If you need these DSNs for Java only, you can define them directly inside the connect string.

  • Xcelsius Source Excel file update

    Hi Experts,
I created my first Xcelsius Dashbaord with a bar graph. The dashboard uses simple excel file as teh source.
Now if the change the excel file directly, will it update my dashboard automartically? if yes how is it done?
    Thanks,
    DV

    Hi:
        The answer is "Yes",
For your scenario, the work flow is:
data changes in excel->changes to the component which binds to the excel range.
        For Xcelsius, it can be highly embeded with Excel, when you bind chart data to excel range, when the data changes in excel, the changes will reflect to the chart rightly. Also there will be two types of behavior for xcelsius component to communicate with Excel, one is "Input" component and the other is "Output" component;
For input component, it can "Write/Insert" data to excel, for example "Gauge" component under "Single Value" when it binds to excel cell, at run time, when user drags gauge to change value, the value will be inserted into the cell.
For output componen, it canbe "ready only", for example , "Pie chart" when its data binds to excel range, it can only read data from excel.
