Excel shows strange characters over Remote desktop

Hi,
Experiencing this weird issue were when I  RDP to my computer , the characters in excel sheet display weird characters
For instance the letter A looks squished
When opening the same excel sheet locally, the normal text is displayed.
Repaired office, looked for updates and nothing seems to fix it.
All your help will be greatly appreciated.

First of all.   I did not say we only had the problem with Server 2008 R2.   We DO NOT have any problem at all with Server 2008 R2.   The only problem is when using RDP to run an application on either Server 2003 or Server 2008.
That means the original version, the 32-bit version of Server 2008.
We have just tried various clients.  The clients tried include XP, Win 7 and Win 8.1.   On Win 8.1 the RDP version is 6.3.9600.   On XP the RDP version is 6.0.6001.   I am not sure which RDP was being used on Win 7.
All of these clients had the same problem that I am posting about.   Strange characters.   They almost look like an incorrect character set.
The very same application that is giving us problems via RDP was tried by running directly via the LAN and WAN.  When this app is run in this manner everything looks fine and there are no strange character issues.  Just in case anyone wants to
suggest that we run this app in that manner, forget it!   The reason we run using terminal services is because the performance is way too slow of the WAN link if we try to run direct.  I also want to point out that this app has been running,
using terminal services for  several years now and there has not been an issue.
As for screen shots, I'm working on that.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 over remote desktop does not play sequence

    Hi all,
I have been researching this issue over the internet but I have found absolutely no references to it:
I am running Premiere Pro CS4 on my high-resource PC but would like to work from a different room so I am remoting form my laptop to my "good" PC.
The system lets me do everything I could normally do when working directly on the main PC with the exception of playing back my edited files (before rendering). This is an obvious handicap since I can not watch my edited sequence and am, therefore, working in the blind. I am able to step through it frame by frame, but when I click the play button, it changes to a pause symbol (as usual) but nothing is shown in the video window. This does not just happen when previewing my edited sequence but also when previewing any imported resource.
Essentially, Premiere Pro CS4 is not playing any video content over a Remote Desktop.
Other normal playback software (such as VLC, Windows Media Player etc...) works though, so it is not an issue of no video playback at all. This just happens when I'm using Premiere Pro.
Any suggestions as to what this may be? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I was able to edit a full 1080p HD video in Premiere Pro CS5 remotely using HPs RGS (Remote Graphics Software).  I had a Workstation at work with Premiere Pro installed on it and all the source footage on it.  I was then able to log on remotely from home with my old weak-sauce desktop and successfully edit and play back the HD footage remotely.  You just do a google search for HP RGS or go to this link. http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/cache/286504-0-0-225-121.html
There is a free trial available too. I don't know why there is not more information about RGS on the web, but it seems to me to be the only solution to work on Premiere or After Effects remotely.
    I hope this helps

  • Sending the UNIX command to install updates over Remote Desktop returns No Updates Available, but they appear when I manually check in the App Store. Why?

We use profile manager to set the URL for the Software Updates on a server inhouse, and the clients see the updates when I open the app store on their iMac, but when I try to send the update command to all Macs through Remote Desktop, RD is returning that there are no updates available.
    And here's a log message:

Why does this happen? Do we really have to manually update each client or is there something wrong?

  • Kinect application doesn't work over remote desktop but it works over TeamViewer

I have a use case where I need to use Kinect attached to a remote computer.
I tried to run an app on the remote computer via RDP but It turns out that it's not possible.
FPS drops to 0 (I get no data), for few seconds (LEDs on kinect device disappear) and then after few seconds kinect restarts to work for next few seconds (I can see LEDs on the device again). After few seconds that history repeats over and over (LEDs disappear,
I get no data from device....).
It's reproducible with all types of applications (WPF, DirectX, WinRT). I use RDP between two laptops with Windows 8.1.
However, everything is ok when I connect to the remote computer using TeamViewer.
Do you have any solution to that? If needed I'll be happy to provide you with more info on that problem.

  • Firefox 7.0.1 crashes over Remote Desktop Connection

Firefox has been crashing very often over a Remote Desktop Connection in Windows 7 (Client: Windows XP, Host: Windows 7). The problem used to occur infrequently before, but has worsened since the last few updates.

I do not have a crash ID because Firefox just freezes (hourglass on the window) and then I have to kill the process from Task Manager in Windows 7. No message, no IDs, just freezes. Then Firefox starts with the "Oops this is embarrassing" message, asking which tabs to restore. This happens randomly when accessing sites like Facebook and YouTube and playing videos.
Can I check the log to see if there is a crash ID?

  • CUPS PDF PRINTING IN WINDOWS OVER REMOTE DESKTOP - PRINTER NOT LISTED

I am running OS X 10.6.2. I connect remotely using windows remote desktop / terminal services to various windows machines. For the XP and Windows 2003 Server 32 bit systems I have no problems with printing pdf documents from the remote windows system back to my mac using CUPS PDF. I don't have to install anything on the remote windows computer. However, for Windows 2003 Server 64 bit and Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, the CUPS PDF printer does not appear in the printer list. I tried installing the Laserwriter 8500 print driver (which apparently CUPS uses) and attaching to a unused TS printing port. The printer appears in the list but it won't print, and it's obviously not attaching to my computer.
I can't upgrade my mac operating system until I resolve a keyboard driver issue with 10.6.3 and above. Any suggestions?

I am having a similar issue. I'm using Remote Desktop to connect to a 2008 R2 server and am trying to use PDFWriter as a redirected printer to create a PDF. It is only working after I check print to file, save the file (which it creates an XPS file that is not compatible), then I uncheck print to file, click print, and then it creates the pdf file I need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Basically - I need to have a "PDF" printer because the print window is on the remote server and it doesn't have the save as pdf option.
    Thanks.

  • Thaw computers over remote desktop to run software updates

I've got a network of computers running 10.5.6 and have Faronics Deep Freeze installed. Disabling deep freeze on every machine to run software updates, and then re-enabling it is a colossal pain.
What I want to do is create a workflow that I can send to all computers simultaneously through Remote Desktop that will first thaw the computer, then run software updates, and finally re-freeze the computer. I've never used Automator before, and I'm not really sure where to start. Can anyone give me some ideas?

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
OK, maybe I'm missing something basic but then why would I ever want to run Windows network in my office? The bugbear about Macs is that there is certain Windows software for which there is no good Mac equivalent. But you are telling me that as long as I have a couple of Windows boxes, I can run my Windows software on them through my Mac, even though the data files are stored on an separate box (an Xserve).
Now, for the $64 question -- is it possible to set up a network in such a way that I could use RDC on my PowerBook in, say, Chicago to run the software installed on the Windows box and in turn to open and manipulate the files stored on the Xserve in my office, halfway across the world in Abu Dhabi? Would this be a particularly difficult configuration?

  • Run labview over remote desktop connection

    Hello everyone!
I wish I had a laptop to connect directly to the test station but I don't. We have labview installed on my system. I can remote desktop to my computer while at the func test station. I am not sure how to set up talking to the insturments to connect to the test system and then the gpib interface through the LAN connection??? Any advice would be great!

    Just for clarification:
You have a test station that has hardware connected to it.
You have LabVIEW installed on your personal workstation computer.
You want to RDC into your workstation computer from the test station, and with LabVIEW use the test station hardware.
    Is this correct?
What version of LabVIEW do you have?  Do you have the appropriate licensing to build your applications?  That is what I do.  I have 1 NI Developer Suite license.  This license (according to NI last I checked) allows me to install the IDE on my work computer and a process computer (2 computers basically, as long as I'm the only user of the developer suite.)  I have the 2nd install on my home computer so I can work from there when I need to.
Anyway, this license allows me to build my application (or compile) into executables that I can distibute to as many target computers as I want.  My standard development process is to build the LabVIEW program on my work laptop using simulated hardware and then compile for the targetted system.  Install the appropriate LabVIEW runtime and hardware drivers on the target computer as well as my application.  If I have time and feeling like being fancy, I can have this all done in 1 installer program.

  • [SOLVED] Font problem. Zsh prompt shows strange characters.

I am seeing strange characters in Zsh prompt only, bash works fine. I probably did not follow the font configuration section of Arch Beginner's Guide properly during installation. Earlier I had problems with login consoles too (tty2, tty3, all those black screens you can go to using CTRL+ALT+F2/F3 etc.) But I fixed those problems by creating /etc/vconsole.conf.
Zsh problem still remains. I am using oh-my-zsh.
I am out of ideas as to what to do. Please help.

What happens if you remove all the oh-my-zsh stuff?
From your screenshot it looks like you are in X: you might want to change your thread title as it is a little misleading.
Check your locale while you are at it.

  • Report showing strange characters

    Hello,
If i am entering inverted single or double quotes through the User interface, they are visible in the application but when i view this in Oracle report, it is not able to recognize these characters and showing them as inverted question mark signs.
For example if i enter "information" (note that the quotes are inverted if i copy from microsoft word), it is coming as ¿information¿ in the report. Please help in handling this
    Thanks in Advance

Do you really need in your report those "smart" quotes the Work supplies? Can you go with just regular straight quotes? If so, you can get rid of the smart quotes before copying to the report. Here is what MS Word help says about it:
Change curly quotes to straight quotes and vice versa
Microsoft Word automatically changes straight quotation marks ( ' or " ) to curly (smart or typographer's) quotes ("or") as you type.
To turn this feature on or off:
    1.     On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
    2.     Under Replace as you type, select or clear the "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box.
Note You can find and replace all instances of single or double curly quotes with straight quotes in your document. To do this, clear the "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box on the AutoFormat As You Type tab. On the Edit menu, click Replace. In both the Find what and Replace with boxes, type ' or ", and then click Find Next or Replace All.
To replace all straight quotes with curly quotes, select the "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box, and repeat the find and replace procedure.

  • 3d graphs over remote desktop

possibly can't be solved at the labview end of the problem, but worth mentioning anyway.
I'm running labview remotly from my home computer to a network. It all works except it won't display the 3d graphs.
Is this a common problem with activex regions??
Can it be solved somehow? (I'm currnetly getting a 'getimage' from the method nodes and simply grabbing an image of it and saving them to see them.)

    Hi John,
This is an issue of how ActiveX instances are created, and is documented in this KB. The easiest work around would be to upgrade to LabVIEW 2009 as we have a new set of LV Object-Oriented based 3D graphs, which then will work with the LabVIEW run-time engine.

  • Moxa Ethernet to Serial with Visa Showing Strange Characters

Before I go to Moxa with these questions, I was hoping to see if someone could easily say "I've seen that before and this is probably what's wrong." I am using a Moxa device that is just ethernet to serial (NPort 5150). As far as I can tell I have everything matching correctly in terms of serial configuration, and I am just doing a loopback test. However the data has some weird characters at the beginning when I read it back. These seem to shift as I add extra text at the beginning of my string and maybe has something to do with the first space in the string? Has anyone seen anything like this before with either Moxa or other ethernet to serial devices? The device does have some delimitter options but right now they aren't selected so I don't think that's the issue.
They have a DLL with functions available that I'd like to try in case they are doing something special under the hood, but I'm really trying to avoid writing a wrapper around a bunch of CLFNs if native G will do. My next step may be to compile one of their example C programs and write some data to see if I get the same results as my LabVIEW app.

Marco, your question about the serial interface got me thinking, beause yes it is 232 but has 485 capabilities...
Maybe I just needed to sleep on it, but I came in this morning and was looking at the settings. The device defaults to serial type being 485. I switched it to 232 and it worked (big surprise...).
Thanks for encouraging my brain to start working again.

    Hello SAP experts,

We installed the bos.loc.utf.NL_NL package on AIX to no avail.

Thanks for your explanation. It helped me understand better the way ODI works.
Does the pattern has a period '.' in front of it too? I am trying to run a job to load data from flat file to a RDBMS table and one of the steps in which I am getting error is
    Code:
    create table .C$_0TRG_SALES_PERSON
         C1_SALES_PERSON_ID     NUMBER(8) NULL,
         C2_FIRST_NAME     VARCHAR2(80) NULL,
         C3_LAST_NAME     VARCHAR2(80) NULL,
         C4_DATE_HIRED     VARCHAR2(80) NULL
    Error message:
    903 : 42000 : java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00903: invalid table name
I tried running the above piece of code directly on TOAD and I got the same error message - Invalid table name ?
Any idea why the period is getting pre-fixed ? Anyway to remove this ?
    Appreciate your help.
