EXCEL TO SQL USING SSIS Error

I have an .XLSLX File.  I have a DFD Task to export that xlsx file into SQL. I use SSIS 2008. However when I run the package, it fails with this error below.
[Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDB_EXCEL_NOT_SUPPORTED: The Excel Connection Manager is not supported in the 64-bit version of SSIS, as no OLE DB provider is available.

Hi Desigal59,
The BIDS is a 32-bit software, therefore, only 32-bit providers are visible in the IS design GUI. So, you need the 32-bit Microsoft ACE OLE DB Provider to be installed on your local machine to create the package (using OLE DB Source instead of Excel Source
in the Data Flow Task). If 32-bit Office 2007 or higher is installed on your local machine, the 32-bit Microsoft ACE OLE DB drivers have been installed already, otherwise, you need to install the 32-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable.
To run the package in 64-bit runtime mode, you need the 64-bit Microsoft ACE OLE DB Provider. However, the 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine Redistributable cannot be installed side by side on a single server. So, if you have 32-bit Office
installed on your local server, you can install the 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable and run the package in 64-bit runtime mode in BIDS by setting the Run64BitRuntime property to True. If 32-bit Office is not installed, you have
to install only the 32-bit
Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable and cannot run the package in 64-bit runtime mode in BIDS.
After deploying the package to the SSIS server, if you want it to run in 64-bit runtime mode, you only need to make sure the 64-bit Microsoft ACE OLE DB drivers are installed and the 32-bit drivers are not necessary.
Another way to create the package is use the 64-bit SQL Server Import and Export Wizard in which the 64-bit Microsoft ACE OLE DB Provider is available. Then, you can save it as a package to the file system from the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. In this
way, you don’t need the 32-bit Microsoft ACE OLE DB drivers to develop the package. When you open the package in BIDS, you may encounter errors or the OLE DB Connection Manager works offline, but you can ignore the error and run the package successfully only
if you have 64-bit ACE OLE DB drivers installed on your computer.

  • Import row based complex csv or excel to DB using SSIS

    What is the best approach to deal with complex row based object hierarchy in CSV or Excel file in importing into DB?
    eg. We have the following CSV or Excel data (Pipe delimited and \r\n separate a new row):
    START|\r\n
    MEMBER|Mr|John|Lee|\r\n
    INSURANCE|2015-1-15|LIFE|\r\n
    END|\r\n
    START|\r\n
    MEMBER|Ms|Mary|Scott|\r\n
    INSURANCE|2015-1-10|LIFE|\r\n
    END|\r\n
    Here each START/END marks one record. The final goal is to transform it into an XML like this:
    <Members>
       <Member>
         <Title>Mr<\Title>
         <FN>John<\FN>

     Thanks for any input.

    Hi awlinq,
    There is no direct option for converting Excel to XML. There are two common methods to achieve this requirement:
    Create a schema defines the structure of the XML file based on the requirement as XML Source, then use this it to format the excel file to XML file in Microsoft Excel. For more details, please refer to the following blog:
    http://www.excel-easy.com/examples/xml.html
    Store data into a SQL table and then convert it into XML by using bulk copy utility (BCP) and FOR XML syntax with T-SQL query. The following links are for your references:

  • Data migration from Oracle to MS SQL using SSIS

    Hi friends,
    I know this question must have been asked by many who are beginners to SSIS like me about migrating data from oracle database to sql server database but i still would like to raise this query again.
    I have table called tbl_employee_oracle in oracle database from where i need to retrive the latest records(eg. latest record of each employee) from the table and populate the result into the sql server database table which is tbl_employee_sqlserver
    using ssis.
    The logic i thought of doing this is as below;
    1. Retrive all employees records from oracle database table.
    2. Dump these records into a temporary table(will have same table structure as in oracle database) in sql server.
    3. Creating a stored procedure in sql server which will contain logic to select the most recent records from this temporary table.
    4. Populate this result set into the final table of sql server.
    Please suggest me if working on this logic is worth and any alternate logic to accomplish this task.

    There are many opitons, but choose among for your scenario
    1. If your employee table is small with less than a few hundreds of record, you want to choose SCD Type 1 if not preserving histoy, incase of preserving history of records choose SCD2,
    2. If you have less than few millions of records you can choose look up to direct unmatched records to insert into Sql Server Destination and direct matched records could be updated using OLEDB Destination or Try Merge Left outer Join
    transform.
    3. If you have several millions of records, you may want to use your above method.
    4. Configuring to use CDC could be last option where there are large volumes of updates and inserts every few min to hours. But I'm not sure if this option can be set in Oracle Source.

    New package or one that used to work? Connecting how? How does it poll?
    On the surface it is an error from a memory space of the binary/non-managed code, so nothing can be really concluded based on what you decided to share with us.

  • PERL calling PL/SQL using ORacle, error tracking.

    I have a PERL script that makes a call to an sql script which updates an Oracle database; it all worked fine under Oracel 7.3.4, but it's now choking on Oracle 8.1.7. We can work around it, but in addition to it choking, their was the additional problem that PERL was getting a nice return code of zero, so we didn't know anything was wrong.
    I've since tried whenever OSERROR and SQLERROR clauses in the sql script, and have tried a begin/exception/end, but it still does not catch the error.
    Here are the basics:
    1) PERL, just executing a command looking like:
    $rc = system("sqlplus -s DBLOGIN_INFO @ sql_script.sql > log.out");
    2) sql_script.sql looks like
    (a) originally:
    update STUFF set MORE_STUFF;
    exit;
    (b) currently:
    whenever SQLERROR exit SQL.SQLCODE
    whenever OSERROR exit OS.SQLCODE
    begin
    update STUFF set MORE_STUFF;
    exception
    exit -1;
    end;
    exit;
    either way, it blows up the same way... the log file always contains only the following:
    SP2-0310: unable to open file "..."
    (where ... is a bunch of garbage)...
    As noted, our work-around is that we can get it to open the file with pretty good consistency, but the problem is that we still can't catch it when this occurs.
    So the question is: how do I make the PERL script aware that something went wrong? I don't really want to parse the log file every time... why would Oracle-PL/SQL give back a nice return code of 0 when it couldn't even open the file?
    (This is all occuring on HPUX 11.0)
    Thanks
    John

    Just to follow up for anyone interested - the "error" is just a message generated by sqlplus... that's the way it is. It was trivial enough to grep the log file for any kind of message, but it still does seem strange that they don't reflect it in the return code, since if you can't open the file, a script that tries to do anything with the unopened file (believing it's open due to the good return code) will crash.

    Hello Keerthi,
    Can you please modify settings and set delay validation for Excel connection manager? I think its validating connection and failing because it might be picking that from some variable.
    Alternatively, please run package using below and see what happens.
    EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'DTEXEC.exe /SQL "Folder\Package" /SERVER Servername'
    I will recommend you to follow steps in below link.

    ? Is this some bug in SSIS ? The same package runs without errors in SQL server agent.
    Thanks.

    It seems the old package reference still exists in your project bin folder or inside stproj file. WHich is why it tries to validate the older package each time when you start  the project.

  • Is it possible to load multiple .xlsx files into a SQL Server Table using SSIS and a Foreach Loop Container when each Excel spreadsheet is comprised of two different worksheets

    So we have an Invoice .xlsx File from a 3rd party vendor. It contains two worksheets..."Enrolled" and "Engaged". The data and data columns in each worksheet is different. Is it possible to loop through multiple .xlsx files using SSIS
    and a Foreach Loop Container for each spreadsheet, and then another Foreach Loop Container to control each worksheet, and pump the Excel data into a SQL Server Table first for "Enrolled" and then for "Engaged"? How can I control the Foreach
    Loop Container in SSIS to process ONLY the "Enrolled" worksheet first? And then the "Engaged" worksheet next?
    I know I have multiples out here and I apologize for that...but right now it seems as though I take three steps forward and then two back.
    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    If the structure of the Excel sheets does not change from file to file then you can by having one ForEach Loop processing always the "Enrolled" sheet and another always the "Engaged" this is doable because the Excel OLEDB connector allows
    to pick individual sheets, it is problematic therefore when sheet names themselves change.

  • How to Import Excel 2007 worksheet that has more than 255 columns into SQL Server 2008 table using SSIS 2008.

    I am using Excel source which uses Microsoft ACE 12.0 OLE DB provider, this only allows the first 255 columns to be imported and not the rest.
    I need to export all the columns into the table .
    Any pointers to this is greatly appreciated

    If you can use third-party solutions, check the commercial COZYROC Excel adapters:
    Excel Connection Plus Manager
    Excel Source Plus
    Excel Destination Plus
    Excel Task
    The enhanced components can be used both under 32bit and 64bit modes and doesn't exhibit the 255 columns limitation.

    Hi,
    This is kind of weird issue that I am experiencing with excel connection manager in SSIS 2012. This issue occurs sometimes but when I close and re-open SSDT (SQL Server Data Tools - newer BIDS) then this issues goes off temporarily.
    Just FYI, through SSDT environment I executed the package successfully with both settings Run64bit runtime setting to Yes and No when error does not occur.
    So far I have installed
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255 (Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable).
    I still remember for older versions of SQL Server (2005 & 2008) that I have executed Excel connection SSIS packages with Run64bit runtime = false i.e. in 32-bit mode. As far as I know I think Excel 64-bit issue has been resolved with SQL Server
    2012 release.

    SQL Server 2012 {Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3368.0 (X64) } , Excel 2010 (32-bit). I am developing SSIS code on Virtual desktops with Windows 7 32-bit OS.
    Also it occurred to me that since Virtual Desktops are on Shared Infrastructure, the source files and SSIS packages (code) can be on Shared drives for e.g. \\<Corpnet>\userdata\<Corp_Users_Grp>\<Username>\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Integration
    Services Project2\Integration Services Project2\Package.dtsx.
    Does this kind of Shared drives have any impact to give this issue?

    Hi Arthur,
    Thanks for your response.
    Yes, it looks like SSIS still has bunch of issues with Excel files like as follows:
    1) Some times excel source files cannot be parsed by excel source connection manager.
    2) For derive column conversion, we can't replace the existing column. rather, we have to add the derived column as " add as new column" which is tough to manage  while destination mapping.
    3) If an column in excel contains a data which is not of the data type assigned for the column in excel, the excel source reads that data as "null". For the same, we can't validate the data and redirect the erroneous data in reject file.  <-- For
    this we tried IMEX setting also
    4) In multi-tab/sheet excel file, excel source is unable to detect a tab and identify the metadata of the excel.
    I am also checking Microsoft connect for Excel issues with SSIS 2012(https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/SearchResults.aspx?SearchQuery=excel#&&PageIndex=22
    As worst case scenario, I am thinking of converting Excel to CSV file or Flat text file. (http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2772/importing-data-from-excel-using-ssis--part-2/).
    Do you think it is advisable to convert Excel into CSV or Flat file.
    Thanks,

  • Fetching SSIS error message into Audit table using SP

    Hi Experts,
    I want to fetch SSIS Error Info along with Task Name into Audit table 'Error_Info' column. This is nvarchar(max) datatype, i wrote below Stored Procedure for this (Column names passing dynamically in SP)
    CREATE PROC [dbo].[usp_AuditErrorHandler]
    @AuditTableName nvarchar(MAX)
    ,@Audit_Status nvarchar(100)
    ,@Audit_ErrorDescription sql_variant
    ,@Audit_PkgEnd_dttm nvarchar(100)
    ,@task sql_variant
    ,@errordescription sql_variant
    ,@Audit_ID nvarchar(10)
    ,@LogID INT

    ,'+@Audit_ErrorDescription+' = ''Task['+ @task +']:'+@errordescription +'''
    WHERE ' +@Audit_ID+ ' = ' + CAST(@LogID AS NVARCHAR)
    The above procedure is working fine in SSMS and inserting complete error info into table, but when i am executing thru SSIS Pkg i am getting error like
    "[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "exec usp_AuditErrorHandler ?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?" failed with the following error: "Incorrect syntax near '@P1'.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet"
    property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly."
    So, i tot of checking with string lenght and modifed the code by adding left () to @errordescription as below.
    UPDATE '+@AuditTableName+'
    SET '+@Audit_Status+' = ''Failed''
    ,'+@Audit_PkgEnd_dttm+' = GETDATE()
    ,'+@Audit_ErrorDescription+' = ''Task['+ @task +']:'+LEFT(@errordescription ,100)+'''
    WHERE ' +@Audit_ID+ ' = ' + CAST(@LogID AS NVARCHAR)
    Here, it is inserting till 119 chars, if i give more than 119 chars pkg is failing with above error.
    I want to get insert Complete error info into the column.
    Can anybody suggest on this??
