  • Free SMTP server for Java mail testing

    Hi all,
    Are there any free SMTP servers that can be downloaded from the Net for Java mail. Thanks.
    Regards
    Ram

    I am sorry ..may be my question was not very clear. I do not have am SMTP host. I need an SMTP host to route emails...is that possible.
    If I have an SMTP host on my machine, then it will act as a router to route messages to other email severs like yahoo or hotmail.
    So the "from" will be a user from the SMTP host.i.e my machine user and the "to" will be some email "[email protected]" or "[email protected]".
    Is it posssible to route emails directly to any Yahoo or hotmail server using just java mail client?
    Thanks
    Regards
    RP

  • Using Apache Commons HTTPClient to create a custom socket for Java mail

    Does anyone know how to use Apache Commons HTTPClient to create a custom socket for Java mail. This is necessary for me to use NTLM authentication

    JavaMail doesn't use HTTP.
    If you want to add support for NTLM authentication to one of the standard protocols,
    your best bet is to create a SASL provider, although note that only JavaMail's IMAP
    provider uses SASL currently. The other protocols should add SASL support, but that
    hasn't been done yet.

  • Good exception handling policy for Java web application

    I'm looking for a good exception handling policy for Java web application. First I found this Java exception handling best practices - How To Do In Java which says that you should never catch the Trowable class nor use e.printStackTrace();
    Then I found this Oracle page The Message-Driven Bean Class - The Java EE 6 Tutorial, which does just that. So now I'm confused. Is there a good page online for an exception handling policy for Java EE Web applications? I have a hard time finding one. I've read that you should not catch the Exception class. I've been catching it previously to make sure that some unknown exception doesn't slip through early in the loop and stops all other customers from executing later on in the loop. We have a loop which runs once a minute implemented using the Quartz framework. Is it OK if you just change the implementation to catch the RuntimeException class instead of the Exception class? We're using Java 7 and the Jetty Servlet Container.

    I'm looking for a good exception handling policy for Java web application.
    If you have not done so I suggest you start by reviewing the several trails in The Java Tutorials.
    Those trails cover both HOW to use exceptions and WHEN to use them.
    This trail discusses  the 'controversy' you mention regarding 'Unchecked Exceptions'
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/exceptions/runtime.html
    Unchecked Exceptions — The Controversy
    Because the Java programming language does not require methods to catch or to specify unchecked exceptions (RuntimeException, Error, and their subclasses), programmers may be tempted to write code that throws only unchecked exceptions or to make all their exception subclasses inherit from RuntimeException. Both of these shortcuts allow programmers to write code without bothering with compiler errors and without bothering to specify or to catch any exceptions. Although this may seem convenient to the programmer, it sidesteps the intent of the catch or specify requirement and can cause problems for others using your classes.
    Why did the designers decide to force a method to specify all uncaught checked exceptions that can be thrown within its scope? Any Exception that can be thrown by a method is part of the method's public programming interface. Those who call a method must know about the exceptions that a method can throw so that they can decide what to do about them. These exceptions are as much a part of that method's programming interface as its parameters and return value.
    The next question might be: "If it's so good to document a method's API, including the exceptions it can throw, why not specify runtime exceptions too?" Runtime exceptions represent problems that are the result of a programming problem, and as such, the API client code cannot reasonably be expected to recover from them or to handle them in any way. Such problems include arithmetic exceptions, such as dividing by zero; pointer exceptions, such as trying to access an object through a null reference; and indexing exceptions, such as attempting to access an array element through an index that is too large or too small.
    Generally don't catch an exception unless you plan to HANDLE the exception. Logging, by itself is NOT handliing.
    First I found this Java exception handling best practices - How To Do In Java which says that you should never catch the Trowable class nor use e.printStackTrace();
    That article, like many, has some good advice and some poor or even bad advice. You get what you pay for!
    I've read that you should not catch the Exception class.
    Ok - but all that does is indicate that a problem of some sort happened somewhere. Not very useful info. Java goes to a lot of trouble to provide specific exceptions for specific problems.
    I've been catching it previously to make sure that some unknown exception doesn't slip through early in the loop and stops all other customers from executing later on in the loop.
    If the exception is 'unknown' then maybe it NEEDS to 'stop all other customers from executing later on in the loop'.
    That is EXACTLY why you don't want to do that. You need to identify which exceptions should NOT stop processing and which ones should.
    Some 'unknown' exceptions can NOT be recovered and indicate a serious problem, perhaps with the JVM itself. You can NOT just blindly keep executing and ignore them without risking data corruption and/or the integrity of the entire system Java is running on.
    Is it OK if you just change the implementation to catch the RuntimeException class instead of the Exception class? We're using Java 7 and the Jetty Servlet Container.
    No - not if you want a well-behaved system.
    Don't catch exceptions unless you HANDLE/resolve them. There are times when it makes sense to log the exception (which does NOT handle it) and then raise it again so that it gets handled properly later. Yes - I know that is contrary to the advice given in that article but, IMHO, that article is wrong about that point.
    If you have ever had to maintain/fix/support someone else's Java code you should already understand how difficult it can be to find WHERE a problem occurs and WHAT the exact problem is when exceptions are not handled properly.

    I'm getting an IOException when I attempt to send my message. Below is the full text I see. If you understand what I'm doing wrong, please let me know. The code it attempting to send a multipart MIME message. It has a body which is "See attached file(s).\n.". I also attached a small text file. Finally, since this was just going to be a test e-mail, I added myself as a recipient.

  • Exceptions in QuickTimes for JAVA examples - plz help!

    How can I solve these problems? I just want to view some movies in an applet!
    Please help me. Thanks in advance!

    Hi
    I also has similar problem using the QuickTime using via Applet.
    When I connect QuickTime via Applet, I have the error message
    Caused by: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission loadLibrary.QTJava)
    I know that
    this error is caused by the Java security "sandbox" for Plug-in.
    Plug-in has restrictions for unsigned applets..and
    I can use the QuickTime via Applet, if did manual editing of the java.policy file in the JRE.
    ( grant { permission java.security.AllPermission; } )
    But editing of the java.policy file is discouraged...
    My question is why loadLibrary.QTJava has restrictions for unsigned applets??
    and how can I use QuickTime via Applet without manual editing of the java.policy??
    Please give me some advice.

  • Error Service Component Container for Java Mailer is not running

    Hi,
    I installed Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 (Standalone) in Oracle Database 10g Release 1.
    Actually there was no problem during the installation.
    I have done the Setting Up from step 1 to 8.
    I'm going to do the step 9 (Implementing Notification Mailer).
    The problem is the Workflow Agent Listener WFALSNRSVC is not running
    and I cannot run it using the Oracle Workflow Manager.
    In the Oracle Workflow Manager there was 4 rows which related to the Container : WFALSNRSVC
    1. Workflow Deferred Agent Listener
    2. Workflow Deferred Notification Agent Listener
    3. Workflow Error Agent Listener
    4. Workflow Inbound Notification Agent Listener
    The status is : Stopped.
    I cannot run any of them.
    Although the Startup Mode is Automatic, but none of them is running.
    When I tried to push the Go button to Actions: Start, it showed this message
    An error has occured
    The Service Component Container is not running.
    And after I tried to configure the Workflow Notification Mailer using the wizard
    I didn't receive any e-mail after I push the Test Send Mail button.
    I read in another post in this forum.
    It states that when going to the Workflow Configuration Assistant (WFCA)
    we must give the right entry in the LDAP paramaters and Java Mailer parameters,
    otherwise those WFALSNRSVC and WFMLRSVC would never run eventhough we enter them in a later time.
    Actually I didn't provide the paramaters (both of them) since they are optional.
    My questions are:
    1. Is there another way to run those service (servlet)?
    I really need the Java Notification Mailer to send email.
    2. Should I uninstall and reinstall my Oracle Workflow and provide those paramaters?
    Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the Oracle Workflow Middle Tier too?
    3. Is it okay if I drop and cascade the OWF_MGR user (my Workflow Manager schema)
    and then I use the Workflow Configuration Assistant again and choose Install option
    to create the OWF_MGR schema?
    3. Are the LDAP and OID required before we use the Java Notification Mailer?
    Actually I didn't understand the use of LDAP and OID which required in the LDAP paramaters?
    Any help would be grateful.
    Thanks,
    Buntoro

    In the service components page click on any container, select stop all from the LOV and Go. Once all the containers Workflow Agent Listener Service,
    Workflow Document Web Services Service and Workflow Mailer Service are Deactivated then StartAll. After all the containers are started then check the components status.
    Still if they are running bounce the apache.

    The exception is occurring when parsing the Content-Disposition header.
    I don't see that header in the list of headers you provided.
    Can you save the entire message to a text file using
    msg.writeTo(new FileOutputStream("msg.txt"));
    Then look for the Content-Disposition header in msg.txt. Most likely you'll
    find that it is incorrectly formatted - as the exception says, there's a comma
    in a place that a semicolon is expected.

  • Using Java Mail API from Tomcat

    Hello,
    Purely as an academic exercise I have written a JSP page which, upon being requested from the client's browser, should send me a default email using Java Mail Api.
    here is the code :
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.mail.*;
    import javax.mail.internet.*;
    import javax.activation.*;
    public class TestMail {
        static String msgText1 = "success this time 12";
        static String msgText2 = "This is the text in the message attachment.";
        public String sendIt() {
            String to = "<my email";
            String from = "<anything>";
            String host = "<my ip address of smtp server>";
            boolean debug = false;
            Properties props = new Properties();
            props.put("mail.smtp.host", host);
            Session session = Session.getInstance(props, null);
    .....The code works fine as a stand alone app but when called from JSP page it hangs on the Session.getInstance line. I can only guess that this might be a security issue with the container not allowing access to the smtp server ?
    Can anyone give me a clue ???

    Your Tomcat log files should spell out the problem for you.
    My Tomcat installation does not come with the Java Mail API. I had to add the mail and activation jar files to the server/common.lib directory (or the server's shared/lib or the WEB-INF/lib of your application.)
    HTH.

  • Message Exception and Internet Address exception in Java mail API

    Hi,
    Using JAVA mail api while using sendmessage method i am getting Invalid address exception..TO address and from address are same as my mail id..Someone please tell why these exceptions come.
    Thanks..

    To prevent spammers using your system's mail transfer agent as a channel for spam most MTAs are set up to send message either from a recognised local address to a remote address, or from remote to local. "Unable to relay" generally means that your MTA doesn't recognise the machine that tried to send the e-mail as "local".
    You probably need to make changes to the configuration of the MTA (Sendmail or whatever) that runs on the machine you've designated as mail host.
