Exception inside a block [BPM]

I have send step and exception branch inside block.
But my exception handler is always triggered independently of sucess/error of my send step.
Could anybody explain How do exception branch work?
Where do I find good BPM documentation? I can't find the full documentation with answer on my question.
Blogs are good but they are not enough
help.sap.com is't enough too.

Hi,
don't read everything:)
just take a look at the <b>Example</b> section:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/33/4a773f12f14a18e10000000a114084/content.htm
with this example I'm sure you'll understand

  • Can't throw exception inside try block!

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem trying to throw an error inside a try block.
    To illustrate:
    public class TestException {
    public TestException() {
    try {
    int ret = foo();
    System.out.println("ret is " + ret);
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    System.out.println("exception caught");
    public int foo() throws Exception {
    int ret = 0;
    try {
    throw new Exception("test exception");
    } finally {
    return ret;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    new TestException();
    If I run this the only output is "ret is 0" - I do not catch the thrown exception! What am I doing wrong?
    Any and all help will be very gratefully received.
    Thanks.

    I need to correct myself: I've re-read the spec, and actually the behaviour is conformant with the JLS: JLS says that the return statement completes abruptly, and an abrupt return in a finally block that didn't have a (applicable or any) catch block will result in the original exception being 'forgotten'.
    Very unintuitive, but as-spec'ed

  • Handling exceptions inside a Presentation

    Hi people, I have a problem handling exceptions inside a Presentation that it is inside an screenflow (that it is inside a Global Creation Activity). This it is in some way related to this other thread: Managing transactions with DynamicSQL
    I have an Interactive Activity that renders an Object BPM's Presentation. This Presentation has dependent combos (i.e.: Country, State, City).
    Although I can add an exception transition to the Interactive Activity, if the BP-Method that fills the other combo fails, this exception transition it is not executed. Instead, it shows a screen with the stack trace.
    The solution I've found: catch the exception inside the BP-Method, and use this.showError let the user know that something went wrong.
    This solves my problem, but I'd like to know why ALBPM let me put an exception transition from an Interactive Activity? I mean, in which cases this transition could be executed
    Thanks in advance!

    This does not solve my problem, but I think that it would be a better design idea not to allow presentations to call server-side BP-Methods directly. Instead it should call a client-side BP-Method and from this method call the one in the server.
    This should improve the way we can handle an error that occurs on a server-side BP-Method
    It's for sure a "best practice", but I think it would be better if the tool help us to implemented this way
    What do you think?

  • How do I disable "Exceptions" button for "Block pop-up windows" in Content tab?. I am able to Disable other Exception buttons in this tab using about:config preference.

    Need a way to disable "Exception" button for "Block Pop-up windows" in Tools-> Options -> Content tab. I want to be able to do this for Locking Down Firefox preferences.

    That button doesn't have a pref associated with it, so you can't disable that button with a pref on the about:config page or a lockPref call.
    That only leaves the choice to remove that button with code in userChrome.css

  • Exceptions in popup blocking not work good

    why sub-domains in exceptions in popup blocking not work? if i add a particular subdomain it works, but when i add an star in subdomain to do for all not work:
    *.mihanblog.com
    *.blogfa.com
    //// Please add image upload on post feature to Firefox's support ////
    //// Also add a suggestion forum to Firefox's support (like Chrome's forums) ////
    Thanks

    Do not add a * because Firefox doesn't support wildcard that way.<br />
    Just specify the domain to apply the exception to a domains and all sub domains.
    *Bug 336207 - Add wildcards to cookie exceptions list to permit subdomains if all cookies are blocked

  • Handling ABAP Exceptions in a Block

    Hi,
    If a background task calls an ABAP Class Method and that method throws a defined exception of type CX_BO_ERROR, I would expect to see a possible outcome for that exception that would allow me to handle the exception for the specific task. If I activate that outcome then an exception handling path will be displayed on the graphical representation which is taken if the exception is then raised by the method. If the outcome is disabled then the workitem goes to error.
    If I want to catch these exceptions (for multiple tasks) in an enclosing block in order to handle them in a single, standard way, how do I achieve that? It does not seem possible to simply define the exception type in the enclosing block and then activate it in order to then be able to automatically catch any exceptions of a particular type that have their outcomes disabled in their individual tasks. It would appear that I have to activate the outcomes for each task and then raise it during with a Process Control item on the exception handling path of the task. This seems to defeat the object of having exception handling at the Block level. Is my understanding correct or am I doing something wrong?
    Also, is it possible to capture the class exception object from the method call and store it in the Task Container (in order to get text & longtext details)?

    Thankyou for both of your responses.
    I understand that an individual ABAP Object or BOR method (call during an Activity) can raise an exception which can be handled as a separate outcome of that activity. However, if there are multiple Activity steps in the workfow that can all throw similar exceptions and I want to react to all of those exceptions in a uniform way, it seems excessive to have to handle each exception individually for each Activity in order to do the same thing (e.g. I may just want to send a standard email to someone or trigger another workflow event).
    I may have misunderstood things but I thought that the purpose of the Block step was to be used as a kind of TRY..CATCH mechanism that will allow exceptions to thrown to the Block by enclosed Activities without the need for enabling outcomes at the Activity level. I thought it would be possible for the exception type to be defined in the Block properties so that all exceptions of that type could be handled at a higher level by a single Block outcome (regardless of which enclosed Activity threw it). If this is the case then I do not see the point in having to define individual outcomes for each activity within the Block.
    That said, I cannot seem to get it to work without enabling the outcome for each activity and using a Process Control step to raise the exception to the Block (which seems to defeat the object because I have, in fact, just handled the exception!). The reason for my original posting is to verify whether or not what I am trying to do is possible and to find out what I doing wrong with regards to Block configuration.
    Kind Regards
    Simon.

  • How to fail messsages when timeout exception is thrown in BPM?

    Hi
    In my BPM, if the time out exception is thrown in BPM, in SXMB_MONI, all the inbound messages' staus is 'processed sucessfully' ? How can I make the message fail?  With a red flag  or anything indicating exception?
    In my design I used deadline branch to throw time out exception.And in the exception branch I used control step to cancel the process.

    Hi,
    In my design I used deadline branch to throw time out exception.And in the exception branch I used control step to cancel the process
    If this is what you have designed then increasing the timeout using the above mentioned blogs doesn't seem to be logical:) (BPM will throw the error when the deadline is meet....can't understand how by increasing timeout will help you)....instead of increasing the timeout you can increase the time limit mentioned in the deadline branch itself to ensure that your message will be processed in that particular time limit.
    Since you have reached the timeout it means that desired message processing has failed so better you raise an alert instead of going for a increase in timeout....increasing timeout decreases performance...

    Abhishek.

  • Exceptions inside threads

    hi,
    it seems to me like checked exceptions can't be thrown inside threads. is there any way to throw them? another question, even more important, is: where both runtime and checked exceptions end up in the case they occur inside a thread (within the run() method), that is, where in the code could i catch them?
    thank you for the help.

    1. Of course you can throw a checked exception inside a Thread, you just can't let it escape the Run method. ;->
    2. If an exception remains uncaught and propogrates outside of the run() method, the Thread will be stopped (since run() exited) and the Exception will be caught by the JVM and passed to the uncaughtException() method of the ThreadGroup to which that thread belongs. By default this method either propogates the call to its parent ThreadGroup or (if it is the outer most parent) will call Exception.printStackTrace() sending the output to stderr.

  • While local variable initialized inside try block compiler throws error???

    Check out this code where two local variables(one String and the other int type) is declared at the beginning of the method and initialized inside try block. now when i compile this app, it gives an error sayin' that Variables not been initialized. Can anyone tell me why compiler is throwin' an error message?
    Many thanks.

    jfbriere,
    Thanks to u all.
    that every reference to the variable is necessarily preceded
    by execution of an assignment
    to the variable.But I've initialized the variable c and aa inside try block before referencing it as a parameter of println()?
    Can u clarify this?

    Is it safe for any practical situation ?
    Threads: t.stop()
    JVM : System.exit()
    which one can really help and where?

    What if security Manager comes into picture?
    class ExitCatchingSecurityManager extends SecurityManager
    public void checkExit(int status)
    Process.terminateProcessWithThreadGroup(getThreadGroup());
    throw new SecurityException();
    What if an application calls System.exit()?
    We still have one big hole in our multiprocess library. If any application calls System.exit(), the JVM terminates, and all the pseudo-processes will be destroyed with no warning. Fortunately, Java's design once again comes to our aid. Any call to System.exit() is first checked by the SecurityManager to see if the application has permission to terminate the JVM. We can install our own SecurityManager to catch the System.exit() call, disallow it, and terminate the pseudo-process instead. The SecurityManager is actually quite simple to define:
    class ExitCatchingSecurityManager extends SecurityManager
    public void checkExit(int status)
    Process.terminateProcessWithThreadGroup(getThreadGroup());
    throw new SecurityException();
    In addition, the SecurityManager should define all other checks so that they do not block pseudo-processes from running. A simple null call for all check* methods will work. We install our own SecurityManager by calling System.setSecurityManager(), i.e., by adding the following line near the startup of the multiprocess library:
    System.setSecurityManager(new ExitCatchingSecurityManager());
    The Process.terminateProcessWithThreadGroup() method is simple to define, by holding a collection of Process objects in the Process class, searching the collection to find the Process with the identical ThreadGroup, then terminating that Process.

  • Is volatile necessary for variables only accessed inside synchronized block

    Hi,
    I am using ExecutorService to execute a set of threads. Then the calling thread needs to wait until all of them are done to reuse the thread pool to run another set of threads (so I can't use the ExecutorService.shutdown() to wait for all of the threads at this point). So I write a simple monitor as below to coordinate the threads.
    My question is: will it work? someone suggests that it might not work because it will busy spin on the non-volatile int which may or may not be updated with the current value from another thread depending on the whims of the JVM. But I believe that variables accessed inside synchronized blocks should always be current. Can anyone please help me to clarify this? Really appreciate it.
         * Simple synchronization class to allow a thread to wait until a set of threads are done.
         class ThreadCoordinator{
         private int totalActive = 0;
         public synchronized void increment(){
         totalActive++;
         notifyAll();
         public synchronized void decrement(){
         totalActive--;
         notifyAll();
         public synchronized void waitForAll(){
         while(totalActive != 0){
         try{
         wait();
         }catch (InterruptedException e){
         //ignore
         }

    Don't do that. Just save the Futures returned by the ExecutorService, and call get() on them all. This will only return when all the tasks have finished.

  • BPM finishes when reaching exception in loop block

    Hi everybody,
    we got a loop block in BMP. In the loop block we catch mapping errors by using an exception branch.
    What we can see is that when an exception is thrown the process steps into the exception branch an than is leaving the loop block!! So the remaining single messages are not processed!
    Is there a workaround?
