Exception or no? Somebody writing JNDI code has a tough time deciding...

I have developed a new form of J2EE point-to-point communication using JMS!
Step 1. I push the green 'go' button in netbeans 5.5.1, which causes my application to be deployed. After much JavaApplicationServer feedback, things finally get around to kicking off my ContextListener's contextInitialized() method.
It instantiates the following class:
import javax.annotation.Resource;
import javax.jms.Connection;
import javax.jms.ConnectionFactory;
import javax.jms.JMSException;
import javax.jms.MessageProducer;
import javax.jms.Message;
import javax.jms.Queue;
import javax.jms.Session;
public class LogClient
    implements Log
    //Resource injection is not currently supported for pojos.
    //@Resource(name="ConnectionFactory")
    private ConnectionFactory connectionFactory;
    //@Resource(mappedName="jms/LogMDBQueue")
    private Queue queue;
    private Connection          connection;
    private Session             session;
    private MessageProducer     messageProducer;
    private int      logLevel = 5;
    private String   idString = "";
    public LogClient(
            ConnectionFactory connectionFactory,
            Queue             queue,
            String            idString
        if (connectionFactory == null)
            throw new NullPointerException("LogMDBClient(): null 'connectionFactory'");
        this.connectionFactory = connectionFactory;
        if (queue == null)
            throw new NullPointerException("LogMDBClient(): null 'queue'");
        this.queue = queue;
        if (idString != null)
            this.idString = idString;
        try {
            connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();
            session = connection.createSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
            messageProducer = session.createProducer(queue);
        catch (JMSException exception){
            System.out.println("LogEJBClient: JMSException while connecting.");
            System.out.println("LogEJBClient: " + exception.getMessage());
        out("LogMDBClient(): Connected");
    public void
    finalize()
        try {
            session.close();
        catch (Exception exception){
            //Do nothing.
    //Gets the verbosity level
    public int
    getLogLevel(){
        return logLevel;
    //Sets the verbosity level
    public void
    setLogLevel(
            int logLevel
        this.logLevel = logLevel;
    //Outputs to the io element
    public void
    out(
            String  outString,
            int     level
        if (session == null){
            System.out.println("LogEJBClient.out(): not connected.");
            System.out.println("LogEJBClient.out(): Outgoing message was - " + outString);
            return;
        if (level > this.logLevel)
            return;
        if (outString == null)
            throw new NullPointerException("LogEJBClient.out(): null 'outString'");
        try {
            outString = idString + " ~ "  + outString;
            Message message = session.createTextMessage();
            message.setIntProperty("logLevel", level);
            message.setStringProperty("message", outString);
            messageProducer.send(message);
        catch (JMSException exception){
            System.out.println("LogClient.out(): JMSException while sending message.");
            System.out.println("LogClient.out(): " + exception.getMessage());
     //...this class connects properly to the specified & configured JNDI resources.
Step 2: My contextListener does the following (Remembering that the aforementioned class is an implementation of the interface "Log")
        System.out.println("Startup.doInit(): Attached to LogServer. Further messages will be directed to LogServer.");
        log.out("Startup.doInit(): Logging begins.");
        log.out("Startup.doInit(): Done.");Step 3: After Netbeans is done deploying my war, it gets around to deploying my application client, which implements the server for this class:
public class LogServer
    private ConnectionFactory   connectionFactory;
    private Connection          connection;
    private Queue               logQueue;
    private MessageConsumer     messageConsumer;
    private Session             session;
    private LogListener         logListener = new LogListener(Statglob.log);
    private Log log                 = Statglob.log;
    private int logLevel            = 3;
    public LogServer() {
        InitialContext initialContext;
        try {
            initialContext = new InitialContext();
        } catch (NamingException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer(): Could not get initial context.");
            return;
        try {
            connectionFactory = (ConnectionFactory) initialContext.lookup(Statglob.config.adminConnectionFactoryJNDI);
        catch (NamingException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer: Could not attach to ConnectionFactory at " + Statglob.config.adminConnectionFactoryJNDI);
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        try {
            logQueue = (Queue) initialContext.lookup(Statglob.config.logQueueJNDI);
        catch (NamingException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer: Could not attach to logQueue at " + Statglob.config.logQueueJNDI);
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        try {
            connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();
        catch (JMSException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer: Could not create JMS connection.");
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        try {
            session = connection.createSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
        catch (JMSException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer: Could not create JMS session.");
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        try {
            messageConsumer = session.createConsumer(logQueue);
        catch (JMSException exception){
            log.out("LogServer: Could not create JMS messageConsumer");
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        try {
            messageConsumer.setMessageListener(logListener);
            connection.start();
        catch (JMSException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer: Could not attach logListener.");
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        try {
            Message message = session.createMessage();
            MessageProducer messageProducer = session.createProducer(logQueue);
            message.setStringProperty("message", "LogServer " + this.toString() + " <Loopback Test>");
            messageProducer.send(message);
            messageProducer.close();
        catch (JMSException exception) {
            log.out("LogServer: Exception during self-test.");
            log.out("LogServer: " + exception.getMessage());
            return;
        log.out("LogServer " + this.toString() + " attached at " + Statglob.config.logQueueJNDI);
    public void
    finalize()
        try {
            connection.stop();
            connection.close();
        catch (Exception exception){}
}up to this point, everthing is groovy. I get the messages that the servletContext listener posted to the Queue...
but then things turn not-so-groovy. The last thing I see is <Loopback Test>.
No matter what is sent from the client side, the 'logListener' is not invoked. Nothing happens... until
Step 4: I re-deploy the application client (which contains 'LogServer')
Step 5: I get this bright red error message, which, sounds a little unsure of itself... (generally, the word 'maybe' is not such a good thing to be seeing in a stack-trace)

Step 7. Restart Java Application Server...
Step 8. The web container kicks off again, and when things finally get around to my application client, all of my messages are delivered and processed, including the messages that were sent pre-restart...
If anybody has any insight as to why 'LogServer' won't process any messages that are sent after it has started... or if anybody knows why I get that exception, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

    ok the array problem is fixed i was having a simple "one off" mistake when accessing the array.
    As for the error that i keep getting. I honestly can't see where the problem with this is in code.
    The it cant be equalt to nothing because this is written so that it has to equal a letter before the program actually runs through everything. Thanks again for the help

  • To avoid writing database code in the front end

    Hello,
    I am working on a database application using 10g database as backend and dotnet as front end. I wish to execute only oracle stored procedure for all the select (to avoid hard parse and use of bind variable), DDL and DML operations; just to avoid writing database code in the front end. Can anyone please give me a little examples of :
    1.Select query's output to be return as resultset by stored procedure.
    2.DML example by stored procedure.
    3.Any DDL example by stored procedure.
    using scott.emp, so that i would just call the stored procedure, rather than giving select,DML and/or DDL commands in the front end. Even though i have read in the documentation, but a clear cut examples will help me to get into clear concept as well.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic failure . Status code: 5015. SQL 2012 SP1

    Hi,
    Please help. I was trying to remove a SQL 2012 SP1 two node clustered instance using setup (Mantenance -> Remove Node)
    I started by doing this on passive node (and was successful) but when I ran setup on active node just before finishing successfully I got this error:
    TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Setup
    The following error has occurred:
    The resource 'BCK_SG1DB' could not be moved from cluster group 'SQL Server (SG1DB)' to cluster group 'Available Storage'.
    Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic failure . Status code: 5015.
    Description: The operation failed because either the specified cluster node is not the owner of the resource, or the node
    is not a possible owner of the resource.

    I noticed that SG1DB instance was removed on both nodes but on Failover Cluster Manager -> Services and Applications the SQL server instance for SG1DB is still there. So I tried to delete it but got the error:
    Failed to delete SQL Server SG1DB. An error was encountered while deleting the cluster service or
    application SQL Server SG1DB. Could not move the resource to available storage. An error occured

    Any ideas why it failed or how could I delete the SQL server instance from Clauster?
    Thx

  • An unknown exception occurred while executing a sandboxed code solution request in the worker process.

    Hi i have deployed a sandbox solution using visual stdio2012 on share-point 2013 site at my local machine. when i tried to add web parts from custom folder to web part zone following error comes "An unknown exception occurred while executing a sand

    how ever this is working on sharepoint online site. but not only on my local sharepoint  site
    Can anyone help me . reply will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    GuYuming,
    You have not yet addressed the original issue, please DO NOT mark this as answered.  The suggestion to use the ulsviewer would only help in finding out more about the issue, but will not solve the unknown exception.  I have been able to duplicate
    the problem in my Development Environment and it seems to be related to permissions or running the SP 2013 "Development" environment on a Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller (to support single machine development).
    Ritu Ranjan,
    I found a post with a similar issue but might be related to this post as well.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/b7408608-c21b-45d9-bc16-e6afff510cd2. I tried switching the User Code Host account from the farm account to the App Pool account but the error stays the same.
    Here is information from the ULS to provide more details to anyone who would like to help resolve this issue:

  • Writing web code on a Mac???? And FTP Programs?

    Alright, so bear with me on this one. I've been using mac's for years for my graphic design and graphic pieces of my web sites, but I still use my PC to write the code (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, mostly) that the sites run on. I write it, in true old-fashioned sense, in Notepad.
    However, now my overglorified word processor (PC) is being totally, ridiculously, slow and acting weird... I think it did this before my last Blue Screen of Death, so luckily I've backed up everything important. Anyway, I thought I'd give writing code on the Mac (a gorgeous 20" imac, in all its wondrous glory) a shot. Here's what I've done:
    - Open TextEdit, type in a few lines of test code.
    - Save As : select HTML as the file type, with a file name of "Test" or something.
    - Open the file in Safari, expecting to see a real, webpage. Instead? I see my code. Black text, white background, flaunting every little
    and tag like a defiant child smearing raspberry jam all over my couch.
    I just can't switch to a WYSIWYG editor and lose the (tyrannical) control I've had over my web pages from writing the code in notepad. So what should I be doing to write code on a mac? I need to know soon, since my PC will be exploding any day now. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    P.S. I'd prefer not to have to spend any money to purchase a text editor for web code. Am I being cheap? I don't really know. But if I can use a program that's already on my mac, I'm all for it.
    P.P.S. Also, I've been uploading code/images/etc. to my hosts via the WinSCP FTP software, on a PC. Can anyone recommend good FTP software for OSX (10.4.10).

    Both of iFelix's suggestions are great free apps and I would recommend them also.
    If you don't mind shelling out some money for the apps (after a trial of course), I myself use Panic's Coda (http://www.panic.com/coda/) for coding. A lot of people also prefer apps like TextMate (http://macromates.com/).
    CSSEdit (http://macrabbit.com/cssedit/) is a really nice combination of a WYSIWYG and source editior strictly for CSS also (Coda has this sort of functionality built in also).
    As far as FTP, if you arent happy with the free options, Panic makes an app called Transmit (http://www.panic.com/transmit/) that is excellent, and is also basically built into Coda.

  • What happens if the exception occurs in a thread when it has a lock

    what happens if the exception occurs in a thread when it has a lock
    on object. Is the lock released ?

    Rastogha wrote:
    ok so lock is released if we are putting code in try-catch block. . right ?
    1) But suppose what abt runtime exceptions which i am not catching. It doesn't matter what kind of exception it is. The lock is released when control is transferred outside the sync block.
    2)Also the thread will be suspended in both the cases or not ( both cases mean for runtime exception and checked exception)Again, the kind of exception doesn't matter. Whether you're in a sync block or not doesn't matter: When an exception occurs, control transfers to the nearest catch block that can handle it. If you don't provide a handler for it, the thread terminates.
    If something is not clear, post code that shows the specific situations you're curious about. Make sure you use the CODE button or
and
tags.

  • Unhandled exception was thrown by the sandboxed code wrapper's Execute method in the partial trust app domain

    Hi All,
      I have created a custom web part in VS 2008 for Share point server 2010 with DevExpress v12.2.17, and deployed as Sandboxed solution. when i add that web parts in web part zone i am getting the error as "Web Part Error:
    Unhandled exception was thrown by the sandboxed code wrapper's Execute method in the partial trust app domain: An unexpected error has occurred. ".
    If there is any way to get detailed error either log file or event viewer.
    Kindly advice to find the cause of the problem.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    Are you impersonating your code? Have you tried to debug your code by attaching SPUCHostService.exe? if not please do so.
    You also need to check ULS log for more information about this error. Here is one ref link if this could help

  • Hello friends , I have started with writing  c code on mac using xcode .....but one of my friend told me to use gcc for coding. He started with terminal And used a text editor to compil the c program on his mac.. So please tell me how to do the same

    Hello friends , I have started with writing  c code on mac using xcode .....but one of my friend told me to use gcc for coding. He started with terminal And used a text editor to compil the c program on his mac.. So please tell me how to do the same and is there any pre stalled text editor on mac if yes then where and if no then which text editor to install and how to install gcc...please help me out thanks in advance !!!

    I have started with writing  c code on mac using xcode .....but one of my friend told me to use gcc for coding.
    Why? If you are developing and writing code on a Mac why would you not use the tools Apple has given you? And Xcode, once you get use to it, is a very nice development environment that will make you life a whole lot easier.
    If you insist on using an editor and the terminal I would recommend  Emacs   but it has a long learning curve so  something like TextWrangler  will work too.
    As for the compiler if you have Xcode installed install the command line tools and you will be able to compile from the terminal.
    good luck

    HI All,
    IN SAP P7.1  created simple two data types, message types and Message Mapping with only 2 fields. While testing the mapping in Message Mapping it is giving the error as
    Source text of object Message Mapping: MM_Source_to_Target | http://abc.com has syntax errors:
    Source code has syntax error:
    I am able to activate the Datatypes and Message Types but not able to activate the Messge mapping.
    Please if any body faced the same problem please give the solution.
    One more thing is I am able to test the Message Mapping available in BASIS 7.1 Software Component objects. It is executing successfully...
    but otherthan this SWC it not working success fully.....
    Regards
    Sridhar Goli

    Hi David,
    please check the default trace. It may contain the entry:
    Error in compiling : java.io.IOException: Not enough space
    If that's the case, maybe there's too little space for the swap file/device.
    You should ensure that at least 2X (preferably 3X) of Heap (-Xmx) is configured as real swap
    Hope that helps.

  • SharePoint Search Service upgrade to 2013 fails: "Inner Exception: An item with the same key has already been added."

    Here's the situation:
    Upgrading a SharePoint Server 2010 Search Service Application dB to our SharePoint 2013 SP 1 development environment, using the Management Shell
    Running the following commands:
    $applicationPool= Get-SPServiceApplicationPool -Identity 'SearchService_AppPool'

    Restore-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Name 'SearchServiceApplication' -applicationpool $applicationPool -databasename 'SearchServiceApplicationDB' -databaseserver SERVERNAME -AdminSearchServiceInstance $searchInst
    Creates the search dBs (crawl, links, analytics) successfully; however, in the end, I get....
    "Exception: Action 15.0.107.0 of Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Upgrade.SearchAdminDatabaseSequence failed."
    Looking at the ULS logs, I find the following:
    Inner Exception: An item with the same key has already been added.

    Anyone encounter anything like this during their search upgrade process? I'm not honestly even sure what duplicate value to look for at this point, if I were to run a SELECT Id, ClassId, ParentId, Name, Status, Version, Properties FROM Objects on
    "SharePoint_Config" in SSMS. Any insight or opinions on the matter are welcome; and thanks to those who choose to reply to this, in advance.

    Hi ,
    You can enable the ULS log on verbose level (note, remember to reset to default level after finished troubleshooting) for more information per the following article, then check there should be more useful message for helping solve the issue.

    Hi Ranga
    Can you please check OBY6 settings (Additional details) for the co. codes, as it seems either multiple co. codes have been assinged to company number 1000 or none of the relevant co. codes have been assigned with company ID.

    How do I back up my iphone5 to my ICloud account, whqen iI have forgot my restrictions password. My restrictions pass code has my icloud a account greyed out? Can i backup to a wd external harddrive, or try to backup to a new mini-mac, I just purchased yesterday? This is my first iMac and IPhone5, so i am kinda out on my own, and can use some pointers!! My phone is full of pictures, and will not download anything, until i store my pictures somewhere!!

    If you don't remember your restrictions passcode, you will have to force the phone into recovery mode and restore it using iTunes. Do NOT restore your backup. The restrictions passcode is part of the backup.
    Everything on the phone will be lost.
    You can extract the photos from the camera roll the same way you would from any other digital camera. Having a restriction passcode set should not prevent that. do that before you put the phone in recovery mode and restore it.

    Hello johnciti123,
    Thank you for ordering a PlayStation Network currency card from Best Buy's eBay store.  I am sorry to hear of the trouble you have had with it when you recently attempted to use it.
    While I recognize this may not be what you were hoping to hear, I regret to inform you that Best Buy is unable to support currency cards after they have been sold.  After we activate the cards for use we have no way to verify if or when they ever are, as this information is only available to the company for which the currency card is sold.  In this case that is Sony and PSN.  If there was anything that could be done, it would need to be from Sony.  In this case it sounds like they are likewise taking the stance that they cannot verify who was authorized to use the code so they do not provide support either.
    I am sorry there is not something else we can do.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions in the future.
    Sincerely,

  • How to find how many times a t code has been processed by a user

    How to find how many times a t code has been processed by a user I am not able to get the exact number from the ST03 or STAD/STAT transaction. I am requiring the specific number that this T code has been processed completely this many no of times for a specific period.

    You must be more precise with your question.
    How long is the time period which you want to check, few hours or several days or longer? And how many executions do you expect, 100, 10000 or millions?
    The STAD should help you, for the smaller numbers. There is no solution for the larger ones. Don't mix STAD and ST03, ST03 is aggregated STAD information
    and know only how often a transaction was executed in total.
    ST05 is no solution for your problem to much overhead, and yoou should trace only a short period.
    There is no tool to check usage of transactions in more detail because of privacy reasons.
