Exchange 2007 calender permissions

Hi! we are running an Exchange 2007 server and we want all calendars to show free/busy permission only. We know how to change this on userlevel, from every Outlook. But we want to know if there is a way to change this from the server so it Changes for everyone.
I've been working on this for a few weeks  trying to find a solution, so please, it would be so nice if someone could try and help me!
Thanks!

Hi Martin,
In Exchange 2010, we can use Set-MailboxFolderPermission cmdlet to change all users default permission to free/busy to achieve it. However, this cmdlet is not supported in Exchange 2007.
As for Exchange 2007, we can use PFDAVadmin tool to change the default calendar permissions for all users to free/busy time. For more information about how to set the Default permission for all users in Exchange 2007, please refer to:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/austinmc/archive/2009/07/29/how-to-set-the-default-calendar-permissions-for-all-users-in-exchange-2000-2003-and-2007.aspx
Hope it helps.

  • Exchange 2007: easiest way to grant permissions on multiple mailboxes?

I'd like to create an account (named "Test") and allow this account have READ permission on multiple users' mailboxes(and calendars).
I've read the article on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996343.aspx.  I know I can use the following command:
Add-ADPermission -Identity "Mailbox Store" -User "Trusted User" -ExtendedRights Receive-As
Question #1: What if I want to add this permission to ALL mailboxes?
Question #2: What if I want to add this permission to a group of mailboxes?  (such the users in an OU or a department)?
Question #3: Is this command alone enough the give the READ permissions to "Test" account?  Do I have to make "Test" account a "View Only Administrator" as well?
My ultimate goal is to use least commands to give least permission to the "Test" account.  So the "Test" account can read other users' calendar information via WebDAV interface.
    Thank you very much!
    Michael
    P.S.
On Exchange 2003, I can do the following to assign "receive-as" permission on mailstore level.  But I couldn't find an equivalent way on Exchange 2007.
    Step 0 Make "Test" a View-Only Administrator
Step 1 On the exchange servier, open the Exchange System Manager.
Step 2 Navigate to Administrative Groups > First Administrative Group > Servers > First Server >
    Mailbox Store.
Step 3 Right click the mailbox store and choose Properties.
    The Properties window displays.
Step 4 Choose the Security tab and click Add.
Step 5 In the Enter the object name to select field, enter the name of the account that you want to use.
Step 6 Choose Receive As to grant Receive As permissions to this administrator account on all mailbox stores
against which you need to access calendar information.
    Step 7 Click OK.
The account that you set up now has full permissions to log in to the mailbox store.

    Hi,
I understand that you would like to grant one account have permission to view all mailbox’s calendar and a group of mailbox’s calendar.
Regarding this issue, please run the following command to resolve this issue.
Grant Test have permission to all mailbox
    Get-mailbox | Add-MailboxPermission –user “Test” –accessright Fullaccess
Grant Test have permission to a group of users
Get-mailbox –OrganizationalUnit “group name”| Add-MailboxPermission –user “Test” –accessright Fullaccess
    Thanks
    Allen

  • Full Access Permissions and AutoMapping in Exchange 2007?

    Hi,
Using Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010.  I have assigned Full Access Permissions to a mailbox but I don't know how to access that mailbox in Outlook.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I see Exchange 2010 has a feature called automapping, which will load all mailboxes I have rights to in Outlook.  Is there a similar feature in Exchange 2007?  If not, what do I need to do in Outlook to access the other mailbox?
    Thanks in advance,
    Linn

    Not in Exchange 2007.
You will have to add the mailbox manually:

  • Public Folder Migration Fails from Exchange 2007 to 2013

I am attempting to sync public folders between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013.  All the data has been copied over to the Exchange 2013 server but I am getting an error when creating the folders and their permissions.
I saw a previous thread which looked similar and I have set the bad item limit to one million as well as set mail-disable on the source public folders but I am still receiving these errors.
    I set the following commands
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Set-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -baditemlimit 1000000
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Resume-PublicFolderMigrationRequest
and on the source mailbox server:
    Get-publicfolder \Non_IPM_subtree -Recurse | Disable-MailPublicFolder

  • Cannot Move Mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007

    Hello,
I am migrating exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 and have moved almost all the mailboxes without any issue, but there are some mailboxes which are not being moved since they are giving me the below error.
    Error:
Error was found for John Doe ([email protected]) because: Error occurred in the step: Opening source mailbox. Failed to open mailbox with error: ClassFactory cannot supply requested class, error code: -1056749262
Initially I found that the account was disabled from Active
Directory so enabled it but and also replicated the active Directory but still the problem is there, its not hidden in the GAL aswell.
    http://www.arabitpro.com

Thanks everybody .. I have solved the problem myself.
To resolve this issue I had to give the account "SELF" permissions for "Associated external account". If the user does not have these
permissions to its own account it is unable to set the msExchMasterAccountSID attribute for the disabled account causing the error. By setting this permission on the disabled account, it allows it to mark the msExchMasterAccountSID attribute.
To do this follow this procedure:
    1. In the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, on the View menu, click Advanced Features.
    2. In the Exchange Advanced properties of the disabled user object that owns the mailbox, click Mailbox Rights, and then search the list of accounts for one
that has the Associated External Account permission.
    4. If no account has this permission, grant the SELF account Associated External Account and Full Mailbox Access permissions.

  • Error: The specified mailbox database [Mailbox Database Name] does not exist, when you try to export mailbox in Exchange 2007

    [Symptom]
    ======================
In Exchange 2007, when you want to export mailbox to a .pst file, you should run the
Export-Mailbox cmdlet from a 32-bit computer that has the following installed:
The 32-bit version of the Exchange management tools
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 SP2 or later versions
If not, you may encounter the following error message:
You check that you have these required installed, but you get the error below when you run Export-Mailbox in EMS.
“The specified mailbox database [Mailbox Database Name] does not exist.”
    [Cause Analysis]
    =======================================
This is because that the account you use to run Export-Mailbox cmdlet don’t have the Exchange Server Administrator role assigned.
You can check if this account has been delegated the Exchange Server Administrator role through the following path.
EMC -> Organization Configuration-> Check permissions in the result pane.
To delegate this Exchange Server Administrator role, right click on the
Organization Configuration node and choose Add Exchange Administrator,
you will see the Add Exchange Administrator window.

    Hi,
Based on my test, if you make the user the owner of the database (rather than a user with the db_owner role), when you create a query, it creates it under the dbo schema rather than DOMAIN\username.
Steps to do so (in Management Studio):
    Right click database, select Properties
    Click File
    Change Owner in the textbox
    OK to confirm
Downside - other users under db_owner role will still have their username appended. So schemas have to be created for these users.

  • Upgrading from Exchange 2007 SP2 to SP3 stops and fails with Performance Counter

We are upgrading from Exchange 2007 SP2 to SP3.
Exchange Server is on Windows 2008 Enterprise 64 bit OS -SP2
DC is on windows 2008 Enterprise 32 bit OS - SP2
When we run Exchange SP3 setup.exe GUI, it runs through the pre-requisites completely and then starts to configure the Hub Transport services but @ exactly 55% it throws an error window "Exchange Server Setup encountered an error"
On repeating this process i noticed it throws the same error at 55% while "Performance COunter Configuring". Please find below the entries of exchangesetup.log

Appreciate if someone can help us move forward in this scenario.
    We have
    1. disabled anti virus and tried.
    2. removed watermarks and action entries in the registry
    3. tried almost everything mentioned on google but i am not able to move forward.
Please help. we need this as part of our migration to Exchange 2013 for co-existence.
    Thank you.

  • HTTP 500 error when opening a legacy shared mailbox in OWA 2013 (Exchange 2007/2013 coexistence environment)

    Hi,
Our Exchange 2013/2007 coexistence environment is set up and all is working apart from this:
Mailbox A has full permissions to Mailbox B. Mailbox A is migrated to Exchange 2013, but Mailbox B remains on Exchange 2007. If I login to Outlook Web App 2013 as Mailbox A and then "Open another mailbox..." and select Mailbox B, a new window opens
up saying "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error". The URL it is trying is :
    https://webmail.ourdomain.com/owa/[email protected]/?offline=disabled
( I can open Mailbox A in Outlook 2010 and do "Open Other users's folder.." and Mailbox B opens up just fine. )
Our legacy CAS server's External and Internal URLs are set to :
    https://legacy.ourdomain.com/owa
and the Exchange 2013 CAS server's External and Internal URLs are set to :
    https://webmail.ourdomain.com/owa
We have FBA enabled on both the E2K7 and E2K13 OWA

    Thanks

    Hi Ansev,
    Thank you for your question.
By my testing, user who was migrated to Exchange 2013 cannot access mailbox on Exchange 2007 with 500 error, although user account have “Full Access Permission” to mailbox on Exchange 2007.
I suggest we migrate account which has “Full Access Permission” for other user  to Exchange 2013.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Exchange 2007 to 2013 Migration issues. Prompt for credentials, Public Folders inaccessible, Apps not working

    Exchange 2013 Migration issues
I have three issues and decided to list them here. Please pick and choose to assist. Thanks in advance.
    Environment:
    Mixed 2007 SP3 R12 and 2013 CU3. 2007 Environment was webmail.domain.com. I installed new Exchange 2013 (1 CAS, 1 Mailbox) according to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032(v=exchg.150).aspx. Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com and Exchange 2013 CAS is webmail.domain.com.
Machine 1: Windows 8.1, not domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere external. Outlook 2013
Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2
I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013. This user was a Domain Admin. I have removed that membership. I checked the box to inherit permissions of the security of the object and reset the AdminCount attribute in ADSIedit to 0 and verified this replicated
to all domain controllers. ( I originally thought this to be the issue with it prompting for the password. )

    ISSUE 1
Issue: On Machine 1 (reference above) Windows Security prompt that says "Connecting to
[email protected]". Almost always prompts when Outlook is first opened. Afterwards (if it goes away) seemingly random on when it asks for it. I put in the credentials (absolutely correct) and it fails and prompts again.
I always check the box for it to save the password. To get rid of it, I click the Cancel button at which Outlook reports "NEED PASSWORD", but still acts fine sending and receiving emails. Eventually the "NEED PASSWORD" sometimes changes
to say "CONNECTED", but it works regardless.
No issues on Machine 2 so I don't know where the problem might be as there are a lot of variables in play here.
    ISSUE 2
Migrated user is unable to open Public folders from Exchange 2007.
Cannot expan the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (/o=...).
This error occurs on Machine 1, Machine 2 and from OWA, same error each time.
    ISSUE 3
Apps. Installed by default are 4 apps (Bing Maps, Suggested Meetings, Unsubscribe, Action Items). I have made sure the apps are enabled in OWA and they show up in mail items on both Machine 1 (Outlook 2013) and OWA. They do not show up in Machine 2 (Outlook
    2010). I'm assuming that isn't supported.
In OWA, when I go to the installed apps listing it shows all of the apps but has a broken link on the image describing the app.
When I click the app in either Outlook 2013 or in OWA, I get "APP ERROR, Sorry we can't load the app. Please make sure you have network and/or internet connectivity. Click "Retry" once you're back online.
Current workaround is just disabling them through OWA.

    Hello,
In order to avoid confusion, we troubleshoot a issue per thread usually.
For your first isue, I agree with Ed's suggestion to check if your certificate name is correct.
Besides, I recommend you change ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod from Basic authentication to Negotiate authentication to check the result.
For the second issue and third issue, please create a new post.

I would probably rebuild the host machine. The Exchange installation should occur without any issues, and where a problem does occur that can be an indication of a more widespread problem. Rebuild the machine, reinstall the prerequisites and try again.

    Hire Me.
    Hello Poster.
I am having the same issue, however it is most likely NOT a host box problem. The above advice is not a fix. I have 3 servers that are cloned with the same setup. 2 were fixed by doing the Vista compatibility trick, this one gave a different error (which
happened to be the same as above). This org was a 5.5 to 2000. to 2003 coexistence with 2007 currently(because the mailbox role won't install). It has something to do with AD or permissions. Server 2008 r2 inherently has problems installing exchange.
Example, having to use vista compatibility to get the mailbox role to install. SP2 patch gives the same error to some people, and also doesn't upgrade the mailbox role properly in some cases. Some people have had luck restarting the IIS admin service, but
that did not solve my copy of this error. I will repost here if I find a solution to this issue...
Same exact setup log for me as well.

Just curious though, how long is your FQDN? Mine is 34 characters plus whatever exchange is adding to it during setup for this particular string. I found a post with the same error for ISA server and some buffer is only 100 characters for a system call.

  • Need help on Cross Forest Exchange 2007 - 2013 with Linked Mailboxes

    Hey all,
So I'm in a bit of a pickle with my Exchange design and am trying to figure out if there's a way to migrate mailboxes across forests where Linked mailboxes are being used. I've done a bit of reading and have noted stuff like preparing the move request in
AD, etc. But I'm wondering if someone can break it down for me.
    http://1drv.ms/1lWjLqG
The above is a OneNote diagram of how we have moved over time. Please forgive my sloppy handwriting but I hope it gets the point across. I will text it out here as well:
    Original Design
The original design of the domains when I joined the company were fabrikam and contoso. Contoso is a domain that sits entirely in the "DMZ". Fabrikam was the internal AD forest where most services and users authenticated to. In Contoso, there
are 2 domain controllers, the "Front End" Exchange Server (Edge Transport), and the "Back End" server, which is CAS/Mailbox.
There is a forest trust between contoso and fabrikam where "Linked Mailboxes" are created in Contoso, and then the LinkedMasterAccount is set to Fabrikam.
    Migration/Hybrid Design
Due to the fact that these two domains were configured massively inappropriately, riddled with security holes as well as strange permissions configurations, the decision was made to create a new internal AD domain. In my OneNote, I've labeled this 'specialbank.com'.
A long while ago we migrated users from Fabrikam to SpecialBank via trusts. To facilitate access to Exchange, a new trust was created between Contoso and SpecialBank to allow us to update the LinkedMasterAccount parameter to the new Specialbank domain.
We have most of our users authenticating to their mailboxes via SpecialBank, while the mailboxes still reside in Contoso.
Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013
I am attempting to now figure out the best way to migrate the mailboxes from Contoso to a new set of Mailbox servers in SpecialBank. This will also be an upgrade from Exchange 2007 (Current) to an Exchange 2013 installation.
The latest Service Packs and CUs are installed in both.
What would be the best procedure to move these mailboxes? To my knowledge, the current best practice/recommended way is to perform a user/SID migration from Contoso to SpecialBank. But I already have accounts in
SpecialBank that users are actively using.
I'm not opposed to doing a simple PST export from Contoso to SpecialBank, but we're looking at around 120 mailboxes. So I'm trying to make my life a little easier instead of spending a weekend here.
If I try to do it in batches, I need to figure out how to handle autodiscover and CAS. Since I'm creating an entirely new Exchange environment, I'm trying to limit what I place in the existing configuration. But I'm not opposed to setting up something temporarily
if I need to in order to make the migration transparent to users.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi ,
From you description i came to know contoso is the resource forest and special bank is the account forest .
You just wanted to migrate the linked mailboxes from resource forest to account forest and also you would want the migrated mailboxes to get merged to the respective user accounts in the account forest to become as a normal user mailbox.Am i right ?
Please correct me if i am wrong . I have found some blogs in internet please have a look in to that especially the first one.

  • Conditional Routing of emails from Exchange 2007

I have a requirement to be able to control the routing of emails from Exchange 2007 based upon the sender email address.
For example, an exchange 2007 email system has 2 accepted domains, domain1.com and domain2.com.  The system uses 2 external SMTP gateways used for sending all outbound email (gateway1 & gateway2)
If [email protected] emails [email protected] I want it to travel via gateway1
If [email protected] emails [email protected] I want it to travel via gateway2.
All mailboxes are on a single mailbox server cluster, and there are 2 load balanced Hub Transport servers.
I have looked into various ways of dealing with this and have had no success.  I looked at transport rules, but I dont believe it is possible to specify the next hop.  I've also looked into setting permissions on the send connectors, but it is not clear exactly what permissions I need to set, or whether it will work.
The only solution I can see is to forward all outbound emails to a separate SMTP gateway (such as postfix) which supports this kind of functionality.  However I would rather solve the problem using Exchange.
    Any suggestions?

This is not possible natively in Exchange but you can create your own transport agent and hook it with Exchange to configure conditional routing. You may try posting a query in Development forum to get help from developers on writing a transport agent.

  • ICal still does not sync with exchange 2007 in Lion

    Dear,
In Snow Leopard, iCal was not syncing with Exchange 2007. I read a lot of things on this and it all led to recurring events. Indeed, after deleting them, things started to work. But I cannot delete recurring events! I need them!
Seeing that there was soo much talk on this all over on apple, I assumed that Apple would fix it. Instead, all we're seeing is some enhanced UI.
Can somebody at Apple please make sure that this thing finally gets fixed? Really, how hard can it be, knowing that the hardware based i devices can sync without any trouble?
Just for extra information, so you know what direction to look for:
I have Windows SBS 2008 in Dutch language. Timezone is Brussels. Exchange 2007 and all updates.
The system is running a self signed certificate
Outlook works fine on the Mac. I don't want to use Outlook on the Mac but am forced to at the moment.
Mail/Addressbook sync fine. Only Outlook doesn't!
I did try deleting recurrent events and this worked for a day. Basically stopped working I think when I added again those recurring events.
There are some errors in the console:
21/07/11 11:42:36,563 iCal: Couldn't find an NSTimeZone to match the SerializableTimeZone
21/07/11 11:42:36,563 iCal: WARNING: Failed to find TimeZone Identifier for Windows MeetingTimeZone: (GMT+01:00) Amsterdam, Berlijn, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Wenen

    Please fix this,

    Hi all,
I do have exactly the same problem.
But I am adding a new flavor, but I can not understand it.
I've setup two Exchange calender connections. Both servers are inhouse. The setup of the Exchange servers are most likely the same.
But one works and one not! How could this be explained?
I like to express my deep disappointment about iCal and partly Apple Mail. It is unbelievable for me, that years after Apple's cooperation with Microsoft there are still such problems.
I like my Macbooks and I certainly have the absolutely full bandwidth of all Apple products in my household and companies. But I think I have to go back to Microsoft and Sony Laptops in the near future.
Although this kind of bugs are small one's, but the hurt constantly. Apple - please fix that.
Here just for the interested reader is my console error message:

  • Exchange 2007 - Send As Permission

Hello, I have Exchange Server 2007 installed on my Windows Server 2008 system and am using an ASP.NET web application to send an e-mail message when certain events occur.  My problem is that I have everything set up and functioning properly, the e-mail message is sent with the designated e-mail address and I receive the e-mail message with no problems.  In order to do this, I have a generic e-mail address that I created for my domain and granted that generic e-mail address "Send As" permission for a different domain e-mail address and use the generic e-mail address in my ASP.NET web application for security purposes.
My problem is the "Send As" permission seems to disappear very frequently.  It seems that I need to go into the Exchange Management Console and grant this Send As permission every time my server is rebooted, or even after going into Exchange Management Console to "Look around" and see what I have set up.  Does anybody know if there is a way to make the grant of Send As permission permanent so I don't have to constantly re-grant it?  I have applied SP1 to Exchange Server 2007 and am always sure to apply the most recent patches, etc. as soon as they are released.
    Thanks in advance!
    Tim

    Dear customer:
Thanks for Bala’s reply. He is right.
Active Directory uses a protection mechanism to make sure that ACLs are set correctly for members of sensitive groups. The mechanism runs one time an hour on the PDC operations master. The operations master compares the ACL on the user accounts that are members of protected groups against the ACL on the following object:
    CN=adminSDHolder,CN=System,DC=<MyDomain>,DC=<Com>
Note "DC=<MyDomain>,DC=<Com>" represents the distinguished name (DN) of your domain.
If the ACL is different, the ACL on the user object is overwritten to reflect the security settings of the adminSDHolder object (and ACL inheritance is disabled). This process protects these accounts from being modified by unauthorized users if the accounts are moved to a container or organizational unit where a malicious user has been delegated administrative credentials to modify user accounts. Be aware that when a user is removed from the administrative group, the process is not reversed and must be manually changed.
The following list describes the protected groups in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows 2000 after you apply the 327825 hotfix or you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4:
    • Administrators
    • Account Operators
    • Server Operators
    • Print Operators
    • Backup Operators
    • Domain Admins
    • Schema Admins
    • Enterprise Admins
    • Cert Publishers
Additionally the following users are also considered protected:
    • Administrator
    • Krbtgt
So first, please check whether the user that you grant “sends as” permission for it belongs to the above group.  If so, open ADSIEDIT.msc,  Check"Allow inheritable permissions from the parent to propagate to this object and all child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here" option on the adminSDHolder. And replicates all the DC, and grant “send as” permission for the user again via EMC, check whether the “send as” work fine.
For more information about adminSDHolder, please refer to “MORE INFORMATION” section in the following article:
Delegated permissions are not available and inheritance is automatically disabled
