Exchange 2010 - Powershell Directory

Hi,
Please confirm if your Exchange Management Shell (EMS) and Exchange Admin Center (EAC) can be opened or work well in your Exchange server.
If you want to reset Windows PowerShell virtual directory for default web site in Internet Information Services (IIS), please
make sure the original PowerShell virtual directory has been deleted from the server:
1. No PowerShell listed in IIS Manager.
2. No PowerShell VD in ADSIEdit (CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=.com > CN=Services > CN=Microsoft Exchange > CN=Domain > CN= Administrative Groups > CN=(Groupname) > CN=Servers > CN=(ServerName) > CN=Protocols > CN=HTTP).
3. Run this command from the Elevated cmd prompt -> cscript.exe Adsutil.vbs delete w3svc/1/root/PowerShell.
If your EMS can’t be opened, then we can use Windows PowerShell Module shell to create the PowerShell virtual directory to have a try. If it doesn’t work, please collect some event logs or IIS logs in your Exchange server for further analysis.

Winnie Liang

  • Exchange 2010 Powershell virtual directory recreation

    Nevermind Fixed.....
So apparently you have to run those commands in Powershell version 2.0, Exchange 2010 doesn't like powershell 3.0
to do that type  powershell -version 2.0
    then type the exchange commands.

Ok, so I opened up my IIS console today to fix a problem with Exchange and the fix was to change one of the Modules in the Powershell Virtual Directory, but when I clicked on Modules it threw an error.  So I started to try an fix that, all the forums and suggestions I read said to remove the Virtual directory and recreate it...
My problem is recreating it, I get the following error,  I've googled and searched a lot and can't find how to fix this.

  • Exchange 2010 - Virtual Directory Internal & External URL's with Wildcard Cert

    Hi Guys
I am trying to determine if my Exchange 2010 server Virtual Directory URL's are setup according to best practice. I'm sure anyone with good Exchange experience will instantly be able to tell me if my Virtual Directory DNS is correct or could cause issues.
    Scenario:
Hosted Exchange 2010 SP1. Multiple client mail domains hosted
    2x CA, 2x HT, 2x MB, 2x DC
Wildcard *.example.co.za certificate being used on CA servers
    AD domain is he.example.za.net
CA Server naming example: ca1.he.example.za.net, ca2.he.example.za.net
he.example.net DNS is done by DC servers
External name used by clients: outlook.example.co.za (For Outlook setup and OWA access)
outlook.example.co.za has two A records pointing to the CA IP's
    PROBLEM/CONCERN:
We have a random OWA log out issue that we believe might be due to ambiguous DNS names being used.
If I change the Virtual Directories External URL to be the FQDN of the server, we get a Certificate Error in clients (due to the .co.za Wildcard). The external URL clients use
    must be on .co.za.
So are the Virtual Directory URL's causing the CA servers to loose track of who is authenticated in where (leading to OWA disconnection)? Is it fine to load balance the CA servers with the DNS the way we are doing currently? Any other issues you see?
    Current Virtual Directory settings:
Note that they are identical on CA1 and CA2

REALLY APPRECIATE SOME EXPERT ADVISE. Thanks.

    Hi Kane,
Why did not you use cas array to load balance client connectivity?
    If you create a CAS array, you can assign an virtual IP (VIP) for the CAS array FQDN (e.g CASarray.example.za.net), and then point all the Virtual Directories internal URL to CAS array fqdn;
For external, you can point outlook.example.co.za to VIP which had been assigned to CAS array.
I recommend you refer to the following article to understand CAS array:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332317(v=exchg.141).aspx#CASarray

  • Andrioid 4.4.4 Galaxy S5 and Exchange 2010 / Active Directory issue

I have posted this here because I don't see a category for Exchange 2010 which is what we currently use and I am not sure where else to post it. Please redirect if needed.  Thanks in advance.
I am an IT Tech and I am trying to connect my phone to my email using the standard email application on the phone, with no success.
I was convinced for a long while that it was my phone.
I tried everything I could with the phone and restricting background data and everything but nothing worked.
I type in the credentials and it accepts them and shows me the mailbox but then it never loads the mail and folders.
I must have gone through this process 100 times and occasionally I get a message saying the certificate is incorrect do I want to accept it anyway.
I view the certificate and it is for another domain.  When that doesn’t happen I just get pushed from checking the server setting and then it moves right to the settings of the mailbox.
However I don’t get the warning like I did when I created a new mailbox and AD account.
Create new exchange mailbox/ AD account – This worked, but ultimately I want my current user name and mailbox to work.
I don’t want to move to a new one if I don’t have to – I created a new mailbox which intern created an AD account.
After this was done I attempted to sync this account with the phone.
It worked first time without a problem.  After the phone checked the server settings it gave me the warning that I was going to have to let the server control the device like it always does.
It also made me accept the System Administrator settings.
I sent a test email to and from it with no problem.
There are other people on our server with Galaxy S5’s and other Android based devices and I have added mail to their devices just like I would my device and they have no problems at all.
I have matched up the mailbox settings and AD settings and everything is the same for the most part.
It is bound to be a little different because I am an IT Tech so obviously I have more than the others, but I don’t feel like additional security should not allow me to add to my mailbox to my device
Other things I tried through the process, with no success, in no particular order are:
Tried connecting my account from different devices
    Disconnected and recreated mailbox
    Deleted and recreated AD account
There is one thing I noticed in the security tab of the AD account, other people using our mail system and Android based devices have something called
Data Sync.  That is some sort of contact in AD
I guess.  I cannot find any information about it and when I add it to my security tab, it will not stay.
After I close AD and check back 15 minutes late it is gone.
I am trying to describe this the best possible way.  Has anyone experienced similar issue?
If there is any further information needed feel free to ask.

Then I would firstly suggest visiting the Remote Connectivity Analyzer Website to check common availability to your mailbox. Just run through the test.
I ran this test as suggested two different ways.  With my user name and password and then a second time with the mail server.  Both times in failed all tests with the exception of the following three:
Attempting to resolve the host name in DNS.
Testing the TCP port 443 on host to ensure it's listening and open.
The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer is attempting to obtain the SSL certificate from remote server on port 443.
All three of these passed.  I am not sure what most of this means, but we have people in the company a variety of different devices that connect with no problem.  For this reason I believe this problem is localized to my AD account or my mailbox,
I have matched up settings with people that I know have the same device and use it on a daily basis with no problem and can not find anything different.

  • Exchange 2010 Virtual Directory Authentication Settings

Is it normal for authentication settings to be different in IIS Manager and Exchange 2010 Management Console? OWA and ECP are set to forms based in EMC, but IIS shows OWA and ECP as basic = enabled and everything else = disabled. IIS shows
OAB as windows = enabled and everything else = disabled.

    Hi,
Here is a reference about the default IIS authentication settings and default
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) settings for the Client Access and Mailbox server roles:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg247612(v=exchg.141).aspx
It is recommended to manage your Exchange virtual directories authentication settings in Exchange Management Console or Exchange Management Shell instead of IIS manager. Some authentication changes in IIS require an IIS reset. If you are using Exchange management
tools, you will see a warning that would tell you to reset IIS if needed.
    Thanks,

  • Running Exchange 2010 PowerShell Scripts

    Hello,
I have a PowerShell Script which calls PSSnapins for Exchange tools.  The Exchange Management Tools are installed on the Tidal Server
The Script works fine by itself, I have executed it as the tidal users on the Tidal Server. I have also created a batch file to execute the Powershell script, which also works on the tidal server.
However when I run the job in Tidal it doesn't run correctly by that I mean it will run the none Exchange pieces.  In the Output tab it shows:
Add-PSSnapin : The Windows PowerShell snap-in 'Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010' is not installed on this machine.
    At E:\PowerShell\DailyChecks\Dag_daily.ps1:7 char:13

These Scripts also work via Windows Task Scheduler as written  I would really like to get these to work in Tidal.  We are Tidal 5.3.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have struggled with a similar issue with Sharepoint snapin with performing a backup
I can give a couple of suggestions
    Add snapin to default profiles
We also see a difference in 64 vs 32 bit oprerations
we had to add to both versions using a local profile.ps1 and adding a line
    Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0
    Execute remotely
Slightly different setup on our side
I am trying to invoke-command on the remote sharepoint server =
( you have to set up psremoting, etc)
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName -scriptblock { E:\Backup\BackupSite.ps1}
Similarly I  can execute the backup.ps1 with no issue on the server but can't from the tidal job.
I'll let you know if we find a fix
I am thinking double hop at this point and need to trust for delegation, etc

  • Add Exchange 2010 Powershell Modules with Domain Controller

    Hi
We are looking for a way to run Exchange PS cmdlets from Windows 2008 R2 DC. How can we load teh Exchange PS modules with any other server
    Thanks in advance
    LMS

You don't need to  - you can open a remote PowerShell session from the DC to the Exchange server and run the Exchange commands remotely.  Use the following commands:
    $PsS = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri <a href="http:///powershell">http://<serverFQDN>/powershell -Authentication Kerberos
    Import-PSSession $PsS -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

  • Exchange 2010 Powershell PST Export

Is there a command that will export in bulk from csv with a column of SamAccountName just the following items to PST?
    All Calendar Items
    All Contacts
    All Tasks

Not sure about a csv, but if you paste the contents of that column into a txt file you can make a PS script starting with a get-content, followed by a For Each loop that will run the new-mailboxexportrequest with the appropriate variables.

    Logoff Testdomain1\administrator, Login Testdomain1\User1
    Perform mailbox remove of User2
    User2 mailbox remove successfully.
    Perform deletion of User3
    Mailbox User3 Remove Successfully.
Why User3 is allowed to deleted mailbox which is located in by using delegated of User1?
Moreover, it found that User3 properties can also be changed by using User1. Why?
Does it mean delegation cannot handle delete operation?
In Active Directory User and Computer: User2 is deleted successfully by using User1 ID.
In Active Directory User and Computer: User3 is also deleted successfully by using User1 ID.

  • Exchange 2010 task scheduled scripts not working if not logged on

    Hi All,
I have done a script for Exchange 2010 and I would like to create a scheduled task for it.
I have followed the guidance of Mike Pfeiffer's blog.
    http://www.mikepfeiffer.net/2010/02/creating-scheduled-tasks-for-exchange-2010-powershell-scripts/
However when I set the task as  “Run whether user is logged on or not”, it only works if the user running the task is the administrator. The task is run with high privileges.
If I do it with a service account (local admin, exchange org admin) it works only when:
-You run the script for an interactive session of the user or a runas cmd
-You set the Task as “Run only when the user is logged on” (and the user is logged on)
If I run the Task as “Run whether user is logged on or not” and the user is not logged on, I get an error on the connection command "Connect-ExchangeServer -auto" (and the task hangs waiting for an answer). The transcript is as follows:
Transcript started, output file is C:\scripts\informes\pruebasconexion.Log.txt
Welcome to the Exchange Management Shell!

    Tip of the day #31:
Tab completion reduces the number of keystrokes required to complete a cmdlet. Just press the TAB key to complete the cmdlet you are typing. Tab completion kicks in whenever there is a hyphen (-) in the input. For example:
     Get-Send<tab>
should complete to Get-SendConnector. You can even use wildcards, such as:
     Get-U*P*<tab>
Pressing the TAB key when you enter this command cycles through all cmdlets that match the expression, such as the Unified Messaging Mailbox policy cmdlets.

I experienced a similar symptom where the scheduled task was getting stuck in the "Running" state. I searched the web for others who have experienced this issue with scheduled tasks, and what I found is that there could be a few reasons why
    this might happen.
I resolved my problem by adding -NonInteractive switch before the -command parameter.
    Hope it helps...
In my case, -NonInteractive does indeed stop the task from getting stuck in a perpetual Running state (until it times out based on the settings in scheduled task), but I was able to deduce why by using Start-Transcript and Stop-Transcript.
Basically, the connection to Exchange is failing some reason and it sits at a prompt waiting for you to enter a FQDN for an Exchange server (same problem as the OP).  Adding -NonInteractive to the scheduled task does indeed prevent the task from getting
stuck waiting for someone to enter a FQDN at a prompt that they cannot interact with, the script still does not execute correctly.  Essentially, adding the "-NonInteractive" switch does not fix the underlying problem of the Exchange connection
    failing.
As far as I am able to tell, this has something do with a WinRM problem.  I'm having the same problem as the OP and am trying to troubleshoot it.  In my case, deleting the user profile for the service account does not fix the problem.

  • How to reinstall PowerShell Virtual Directory in IIS 7.5, Exchange 2010 SP1?

Hi, When reinstalling CAS role, accidently removed Powershell virtual directory in IIS and also the powershell folder under ClientAccess folder. Now EMC and EMS not working, all with Kerbrose error and WinRM error. How could I restore PowerShell virtual
directory and make it fully functional without a fully reinstall of EX2010? I tried manually add it in IIS and copy the web.config from another EX2010 server but failed. Can't access its module settings in IIS. How to recreate them? Any Powershell script(but

  • Active Directory domain migration with Exchange 2010, System Center 2012 R2 and File Servers

    Greeting dear colleagues!
I got a task to migrate existing Active Directory domain to a new froest and a brand new domain.
I have a single domain with Forest/Domain level 2003 and two DC (2008 R2 and 2012 R2). My domain contains Exchange 2010 Organization, some System Center components (SCCM, SCOM, SCSM) and File Servers with mapped "My Documents" user folders. Domain
    has about 1500 users/computers.
How do u think, is it realy possible to migrate such a domain to a new one with minimum downtime and user interruption? Maybe someone has already done something like that before? Please, write that here, i promise that i won't ask for instruction from you,
maybe only some small questions :)
Now I'm studying ADMT manual for sure.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dmitriy Titov

    Hi Dmitriy,
I got a task to migrate existing Active Directory domain to a new froest and a brand new domain.
How do u think, is it realy possible to migrate such a domain to a new one with minimum downtime and user interruption?
As far as I know, during inter-forest migration, user and group objects are cloned rather than migrated, which means they can still access resources in the source forest, they can even access resources after the migration is completed. You can ask users
to switch domain as soon as the new domain is ready.
    Therefore, there shouldn’t be a huge downtime/interruption.

  • Powershell to get all the members in about 20 DynamicDistribution group in exchange 2010

I have about 20 DynamicDistribution groups in my exchange 2010 enviroment.  I need to run a report to show all the members in each group.  How can I accomplish this with powershell ?  thanks for all the help

I assume you don't want the output of all 20 groups dumped into one single list.  So, you'd just use this:
Use the Shell to preview the list of members of a dynamic distribution
    group
This example returns the list of members for the dynamic distribution group Full Time Employees. The first command stores the dynamic distribution group object in the variable $FTE.
The second command uses the Get-Recipient cmdlet to list the recipients that match the criteria defined for the dynamic distribution group.
    $FTE = Get-DynamicDistributionGroup "Full Time Employees"
    Get-Recipient -RecipientPreviewFilter $FTE.RecipientFilter
For detailed syntax and parameter information, see Get-DynamicDistributionGroup and Get-Recipient.

  • Exchange 2010 - Report NDRs with powershell

    Hi all,
I would like to analyze all internal NDRs within my exchange environment. For example we have systems which are hard coded with email addresses of internal recipients and people leave the business and their mailbox and associated email address will be removed
from exchange but not from a third party system that has a list of addresses to send notifications out to or home grown scripts. In order to keep the email pipeline clean and follow best practices I would like to catch these NDRs and remove them from the relevant
    systems.
Is there anyway I can do this with powershell, my environment Exchange 2010 SP2 and all the roles are on a single server.

    Hi Niko,
I have just performed the following test:
sent an email to an internal recipient were the address does not exist, example
    [email protected]
The NDR does not come from [email protected]
The headers for the NDR I got as listed below:
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    From: Microsoft Outlook
     <[email protected]>
    To: <[email protected]>
