Exchange logging of delayed messages

We are having the known issue of delayed outbound messages (last error: 400 4.4.7 message delayed), whereas the suggested ways to fix it are to edit the host file on cas/ht servers or to turn on external DNS and then add smtp addresses as needed.
Of course we can telnet to these same addreses and successfully send messages, so it makes it look like our DNS is broken, but our DNS appears to be working fine.  We are trying to investigate this further to confirm the DNS is indeed working as it should
so I checked to make sure logging was turned on in the cas/ht servers and the outbound connector is set to verbose logging.  I have also looked at some of the tools in the EMC toolbox to trace problem child messages.  Out of all of this, including
looking at logs, all I can see is the message goes out and/or it didn't get delivered, depending on what tool or log I am looking at.  I don't see anything else to indicate why it is having a problem with the message, thereby delaying it.  I don't
want to edit the host file as that is a hokey to manage this, and not the best option, and I was told by my supervisors that before we turn on external DNS we really need to find out why this is happening (and I really don't want to have to add smtp addresses
and domains as additonal housekeeping, this really shouldn't be necessary).  Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with the logging or tools to fill in the gaps?  As I said, all I get is that it failed to deliver, and well, I knew that going
in.  Thanks for any suggestions.  : )

SMTP Protocol logging is the place to start:

I don't see why anyone would suggest configuring a host file in this instance.

  • Delayed messages with New ISP

I have an odd problem that so far Cisco has not been able to resolve.  We are in the process of migrating from AT&T fiber to Comcast Business Fiber.  All DNS records have been moved over. We currently have both links up. The ASA configuration is setup for tracking (redundancy). All of our outbound traffic is going through the Comcast link (default route) and most of our incoming traffic via DNS has been setup to the new external IP configured on the secondary up-link for Comcast.
Here is the problem:  When I change our MX records from AT&T to Comcast; messages are delayed. Often times 5-10 times longer than using the AT&T link. On several occasions, the messages are delayed so much, that the sender server drops the connection.  We have a 15 minute timeout configured on the IronPort (ESA C170). but that is the same configuration used by AT&T.
At first, the thought was a config problem on our ASA (55xx series). However, after hours of support from the ASA team, it was determined not to be a problem with the ASA. Later as a confirmation, I changed the Comcast IP route to bypass the C170 and emails flow as expected (omit spam detection).
The ESA simply listens to port 25 traffic, checks for spam and viruses and then pass that information to Exchange 2010.
Been working with the ESA team for nearly 2 weeks and they cannot seem to find a problem. But again, if I bypass the ESA, there are no issues. The ASA has been configured so that SMTP traffic has priority and confirmed that Port 25 is open.
What I have done currently is leave our production SMTP (MX) records pointing to our AT&T IP, and configured a temporary domain (xxxxxx.COM) to point to our Comcast IP. I configured both Exchange and the Ironport to accept messages from that domain. I have followed message tracking over and over again, tried and review packet captures and provide every possible log to Cisco.  What I am seeing is that the message(s) stop at the point where it is retrieving the message header.  For example, I have one message that the connection was accepted at 1333hours, it matched SBRS, was accepted via the TLS Protocol. The message connection continues and the last line before the delay is the incoming connection added the recipients email address. After that, there is nearly a 12 minutes delay until the next item which is the message ID header.  With my test domain, the message will eventually be received and forwarded on to our exchange server. The later steps taking just seconds.
If I used one of our production domains, messages are dropped. Those same messages, the message tracking does not record a subject line (by way of the message headers).
Can anyone shine a light on why this is occurring? I can provide any logs, captures or message tracking details you may need. I just need to get this resolved.
    Recap:
Email sent from say Live.com (Microsoft Hotmail Servers) to our ATT IP through our ASA firewall then through the IronPort; that email arrives on time.
Email sent with an attachment from Live.com (Microsoft Hotmail Servers) to our ATT IP through our ASA firewall then through the IronPort; that email arrives on time.
Email sent from Live.com (Microsoft Hotmail Servers) to our Comcast IP  through our ASA firewall then through the IronPort; that email arrives on time.
Email sent with an attachment from Live.com (Microsoft Hotmail Servers) to our Comcast IP  through our ASA firewall then through the IronPort; that email is delayed.
Email sent with an attachment from Live.com (Microsoft Hotmail Servers) to our Comcast IP through our ASA firewall bypassing the IronPort; that email arrives on time.
The tests messages with attachments vary from 1MB-3MB. The Max message size is 50MB. Our ATT connection is 15Mbps. Our Comcast connection is 50Mbs. Other than the ESA, there is no other gear between the ASA and our Exchange servers.
    Thank you,

I did, that is what the guy at apple had me do, and also Its been well over 48 hours, thank you though.. any other suggestions..

Does anyone know what is this mean and how to fix this?
I checked the records and they are not being replicated, and the connection to the subscriber are not active for some reason; but I don't know how to fix it.
    Thanks
    Philly Database developer

It basically means that the replication agent has not logged a status message back to the replication subsystem.
Basically you can't stop it, and these messages let you know if the agent has hung.
However you can delay the time before the subsystem will report this message. Do this by the following query - this will delay this message to 10 minutes from the default of 5 minutes. I have set this to days when replicating over ISDN/Phone lines.
    USE master
    exec sp_changedistributor_property

If the user has already created a new AdobeID and tried to deleted file at the Application Support/Adobe/opm.db and it is still not working he should try this.
you could suggest that the user closes all applications and Repair Disk Permissions on OSX:
    2. Open Disk Utility, located at /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
    3. Select your startup disk on the left of the Disk Utility window
    4. Select First Aid from the tabs
Click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button
It is always a good idea to run Repair Disk Permissions on OSX after an update, say from 10.8 to 10.8.x.
On Windows he can Run sfc /scannow In the command prompt.
    1. Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
He could also try and disable any 3rd party firewall, antivirus programs. I hope this helps.

  • Identify the exchange protocol of the message

    Hi,
I have created a business action, a Trading partner and deployed a Agreement for a partner. On the other side, i have a jsp which post message through HTTP protocol.
Whenever i try to post a Message to the B2B through the jsp, the Error status reports page shows me the error as,

Has anyone faced a similar problem?

The communication with our TP is going well, we are able to send, receive messages over AS2 and send back MDN, but we are not able
    to receive their MDN.
    Edit:
It seems that after the latest MLR patch, the error changed to [IPT_HttpSendError] HTTP encounters send error :. Premature EOF encounter but the roots seem to lead to the problem with MDN as B2B is sending the message a couple of times now and gives the mentioned EOF error.
    Please advise,
    Thank you

    Hi Ramesh,
Yes, agreement uses AS2 IDentifiers. Incoming messages are recognized correctly, and we send back sync MDN that is correctly received by our TP. They also recieve our messages correctly although Oracle B2B does not recognize the MDN from them. I think that this causes that, now after applying the latest MLR patch, B2B tries to send it around 6 times and gives the Unexpected EOF error.
Thank you for your help in advance,
    Kind regards,

  • URGENT: SBS 2011 Exchange log files filling up drive in minutes!

I need some help with ideas as to why Exchange is generating hundreds of log files every minute.
The server had 0MB free on the C: drive, and come to find out, there were over 119,000 log files in the Exchange server folder (dated within the last 7 days).  These files are named like E00001D046C.log.  Oddly, the Exchange database store
is not growing in size as you'd expect.  Frantically searching for a way to free up space, I turned on circular logging and remounted the store (after freeing up enough space for it to mount!).  Almost instantly, the 119,000+ log files disappeared,
but now there are about 40 or so that are constantly being created/written/deleted, over and over and over.
This is a small 5 person office with a 4GB database store.  The 119,000 log files were taking up over 121GB.  It's nice to have that space back, but something is in a loop, constantly creating log files as fast as the system can write them.
I checked the queues...nothing.  Where else can I look to see what might be causing this?
    Thanks for the help.
ps.  Windows server backup failed about the time this problem started, stating the backup drive is out of space.  It's a 2TB drive, backing up 120GB of data.  Isn't it supposed to delete old backups to make room for new?

  • Which bit instructs msgsrv to log deposition of messages in mailboxes?

I hope this is a short question with a one-liner answer:
I want to keep a log of all messages received by the Messaging Server,
including common headers like from, to, subject, size - pretty much
    like sendmail logs.
I believe this mode can be toggled on by a bit in LOG_CONNECTION or
something similar, but I didn't yet find what exactly should be set.
At the moment mail.log_current does log connections from localhost and
remote smtp relays, but that's just it - a couple of IP addresses and ports,

I hope this is a short question with a one-liner answer:
I want to keep a log of all messages received by the Messaging Server,
including common headers like from, to, subject, size - pretty much
like sendmail logs. You can log specific email headers as per the following:
    http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Log_email_header
"size" is not an email header.
I believe this mode can be toggled on by a bit in LOG_CONNECTION or
something similar, but I didn't yet find what exactly should be set.
At the moment mail.log_current does log connections from localhost and
remote smtp relays, but that's just it - a couple of IP addresses and ports,
    i.e.:
    12-Mar-2009 06:35:01.32 tcp_local    +            O TCP|127.0.0.1|25|127.0.0.1|49050 SMTP
    12-Mar-2009 06:35:01.32 tcp_local    +            C TCP|127.0.0.1|25|127.0.0.1|49050 SMTP
    12-Mar-2009 06:35:01.32 tcp_submit   +            O TCP|127.0.0.1|587|127.0.0.1|49051 SMTP
    12-Mar-2009 06:35:01.32 tcp_submit   +            C TCP|127.0.0.1|587|127.0.0.1|49051 SMTP
These entries appear to be msprobe monitoring connections and disconnections -- not email delivery attempts. You will see the same entry if you telnet to port 25, then close the connection.
Almost all of the detail I want is there in log lines for messages relayed from
this Messaging Server to a remote relay (they seem to include both messages
initiated by this server's users and messages created via Forward to remote
    mailbox), i.e.:
    11-Mar-2009 11:24:34.16 tcp_local    +            O TCP|127.0.0.1|25|127.0.0.1|39285 SMTP

...I want to have similar entries for messages received by this server both
from remote servers and from this server itself to its users as sole
recipients. If you have added the "logging" keyword to the defaults line in your imta.cnf file then every email that passes through the MTA, regardless of whether it is destined for remote (tcp_intranet/tcp_local) or internal (ims-ms) will be logged.
If possible, I'd also like to log the message sizes in order to respond to
questions like "did my big attachment come through?"The size is already recorded. It is the argument after the "EE" and "DE". So in your above example the enqueued message was 14KB, and the dequeued message size was 15KB. There is a size difference because the email will increase in size during transit (additional Received: header etc.).

    Shane.

  • Logging a synchronous message using diagnostic header (WITHOUT LOGGING_SYNC

This [link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/d6/49543b1e49bc1fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm] indicates that a synchronous message can be logged by using:
    <SAP:Logging>1</SAP:Logging>
within the message header even if LOGGING_SYNC is deactivated at the server configuration.
I'm using HTTP client tool to submit a message and trying to figure out how to pass this tag.  Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Shahab

If  LOGGING_SYNC  is deactivated in IE Configuration, then you cannot see th req. and resp. message in MONI.
Synch. messages are not persistence by default. To acheive it, we need to set the logging.
    Thanks

  • Regarding Exchanging EDI ANSI x12 messages

    Hi all,
I want to clarify few things regarding Exchange of EDI ANSIx12 messages with Seeburger adapter.
    1) We Installed Seeburger adapter & Deployed in XI Server.
    2) We are Using VAN FTP Adapter for Exchange of EDI Messages with Our Partner.
    1) We have Sterling Commerce VAN setup.
2)We are currently able to Access the VAN mailbox with the help of URL provided by Sterling
3)And also able to access the FTP Folders (Receive,,,Send/commit) provided by the Sterling by providing the IP Address of FTP server.
    Queries:
    1) we are able to configure Communication channel with Seeburger FTP and provided the necessary details about the Sterling commerce VAN, Host name.....etc. We gave VAN FTP Folder
    receive\. in the path.
Do we need to connect to the VAN mailbox or VAN FTP Folder while accessing  ?????
When ever I executed the scenario means we are not able to see any messages in CC monitoring
Anybody Worked on such type of Scenario's means Please respond to my thread......
    Regards
    Bopanna

    Hi,
MONI and RWB will only be showing messages if
    1) polling channel can connect to the VAN box
    2) messages on the VAN box are being fetched
    3) messages are SUCCESSFULLY processed by the module chain !
as already stated by previous posters, please check the SEEBURGER workbench which is available at
    http://<fill_in_your_xi_host>:<xi_port>/seeburger
Check the documentation of the SEEBURGER workbench and the master installation guide!

  • BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.

    Hi,
We have a back up that is failing.
The error is "BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE RPS. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.".
As I understand it the backup application log is at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\LOG. From that all I get is
    2014-03-05 14:49:29.41 Backup      Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2014-03-05 14:49:29.41 Backup      BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE myDb. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
The command I am using is
    BACKUP DATABASE [MyDb]
    TO  DISK = N'D:\Domains\SQL_Backup\DB\myDb\Mydb_FullBackup_20140305_1100.bak'
WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT,  NAME = N'mydb-Full Database Backup', SKIP, NOREWIND, NOUNLOAD,  STATS = 10
    GO
The database is Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64-bit) Version 9.00.1399.06.
The computer is Windows server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2
The Db is 191 Gb and there is 227 Gb available on the D drive where it's being backed up to.
Any thoughts as to how I can track down the problem.
Is the 227Gb of spare disk space big enough to back up a 191 Gb database?
If not how much is needed?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Can you apply latest service pack .I dont know but guess that can be issue.Once faced ,not quite sure. Also can you just make your command like
    BACKUP DATABASE [MyDb]
    TO DISK = 'D:\Domains\SQL_Backup\DB\myDb\Mydb_FullBackup_20140305_1100.bak'
WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, STATS = 10
    GO
Just a simple one .Is backup failing immediately or after some time .Error is not so helpful as it does not shows any information
