Exchange Old for New

I purchased my macbook on may 6th after my old laptop broke. I asked both best buy and the apple store at my school if any new products where coming out and when the free ipod promo would occur. They both said nothing was coming out and couldn't tell me when the promotion would start. So here i am with a month old macbook that is outdated and replaced with a better, faster and cheaper pro. Is there anything i can do about swapping out for a new pro or did i just get screwed by apple?

I would go in to the apple store and ask. I don't know how things work in the US, but over here we get a statutory 30 days for returns if you change your mind. (Obviously just past that, but worth asking). Or call the apple support line. They may offer a partial refund like they did for lots of initial iPhone customers when they dropped the price a month or so after launch.
I bought my 2.4ghz macbook about a week before the new one came out. I knew the WWDC was coming but I didn't expect a new model so soon after the January refresh. However, I'm not that bothered as mine is a refurb which cost less than the 2.0ghz model as new. So still got a good deal regardless of the new slightly cheaper model, which only has a few effectively minor upgrades.
If I had purchased a brand new one however (which I nearly did and cancelled the order), I would have been rather annoyed and demanded a refund/exchange. Come to think of it there was a 2 week wait for the new (now old) ones as opposed to the refurbs but the salesperson couldn't explain why. Now we know.
Also, any outstanding order placed for the previous version when the new one was announced had an email offering the new model.
Now that this helps you much, but just thought I'd chip in with my similar experience.
It's an impossible task keeping up with technology. Whether you purchased your machine a month ago or 6 months ago, you've still got a top notch powerful laptop. Yes it stings a bit buying as recently as you did, but I think you'd still be a bit annoyed if it were 3 or even 6 months ago. But with those timeframes we just accept it.

Do you have old for new service for Mac air?

I believe you are asking if you can trade in an older model MacBook Air for a new one.
Apple does not take trade-ins; however, in the U.S., they do have a recycling program which offers Apple gift cards in exchange for older Apple computers.
You should be able to sell your older computer.

Actually, in the US at least the website states
You can recycle your iPhone at the Apple Retail Store and get immediate credit for its value toward the purchase of a new one.**

  • Use cached exchange mode for new and existing outlook profiles

Hi, I've noticed a difference in the behavior of this setting in Outlook 2010 vs 2013
In 2010, when the gpo is set, everything is greyed out for the user, but in 2013, the user can change the setting. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this something that MS decided to change or a bug?
I'll attach screenshots of the settings and the end result later.

    Hi,
    à
In 2010, when the gpo is set, everything is greyed out for the user, but in 2013, the user can change the setting.
Based on your description, I understand that “Use Cached Exchange Mode” will gray out in Outlook 2010 when
set "Use Cached Exchange Mode for new and existing Outlook profiles".
However, in Outlook 2013, you will still be able to check “Use Cached Exchange Mode”. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Just my guess, Office 2013 Administrative Templates may be a little difference with Office 2010 Administrative
Templates. On current situation, I suggest that you would post the question in
Office Forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Exchanged ipad for new, same problems with wifi

no cure for either unit, return for refund the only answer, none of the "tricks" listed work, all I want is a product that works, this ain't it.

Before you return it, did you try the "lowering Brightness" fix?
I, too, exchanged my iPad after having wi-fi issues. The second iPad suffered from the same problems. And yes, I did reconfigure my Router's settings according to Apple's suggestions--but that didn't work. So I ran across this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2391395&tstart=30. I tried the solution discussed in that thread, and now my iPad's wifi works normally.
    Hope that helps somewhat.
(And I disagree that a customer should have to purchase a different router simply because the iPad isn't conducive to mainstream routers. The iPad was advertised as compatible with mainstream wifi routers. We, the consumers, should not bear the burden for its incompatibility. Plus, try going to your local coffeeshop and telling them to get a new router because your iPad isn't compatible with their "low end" router).

  • Computer too old for new Itunes?

I'm trying to update to a new Itunes because I can't access the Itunes store any more.  When trying to update to the new Itunes I'm told that I need to have Mac 10.7.5 or higher, and I have 10.6.8.  Does that mean I'll never be able to access the store again, since my system is too old to update?  How am I supposed to download new podcasts?

You can very easily upgrade your version of 10.4 to the most current version. This will only take a few clicks on your part, but will probably take a while for the computer to download and install everything.
In order to do this, you have to run 'Software Update.'
--Click on the blue Apple logo in the upper left hand corner of your screen.
    --Select "Software Update"
--Wait while the computer determines what software needs to be updated (if you've never done this, or haven't in a long time, this may take a few mins)
--Select all the programs (in particular 10.4.10) and click "Install" in the lower right hand corner of the window
--You'll be asked to enter your password (if you don't know your password, you probably don't have one, so just leave it blank and click "OK" (or whatever is the blue button is)
--You'll have to agree to a bunch of software user agreements... just click agree.
--Wait... now the computer will download all the software and then install it. After the install it will restart (restart will probably take longer than usual).
This may look scary as you read it, but really all you have to do is click a few times, and then your Mac will do it all automatically.
    Hopefully that works!

  • Exchange asks for new passcode, rejects everything I try

Trying to set up my work email/calendar via Exchange. When I set up my account I get a message that my account will start receiving new data again when a new passcode has been sent, instructing me to change my Passcode. I hit Continue, go to the Set Passcode screen, but every password I try results in "Wrong passcode, try again". I've tried my iPhone passcode (4 numbers), my Exchange password, and nothing works. Is there a default passcode I need to enter first so that I can change it to a new passcode of my choosing?

Solved. Wasn't reading the prompt closely. I needed to enter a 4+ digit passcoade containing numbers AND letters plus at least one special character. My password didn't have a number in it anywhere.
    Feel pretty stupid.

  • Is my MBP too old for new externals?

I have the 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, model of MBP, I am running Leopard. I want to buy the WD Passport 120GB. It is powered through the USB port. All the posts in the forum about this device working properly are coming from people who have the core 2 duo & newer/faster models of the MBP. Will my model be able to power this device through just one of the USB ports? I don't want to buy it, plug it in & have it fry my laptop. Please let me know. A definite answer would be great. I can't rely too much on speculation, unless you really know your stuff. Thank you very much in advanced.

    Richard
The usb ports are rated at 500mA for your model and later and it seems that Apple has kept this current draw strictly to 500 rather than a few mA over. Provided the drive does not need the full 500mA it should work. Having said that I know that many have had problems with usb drives drawing more than allowed in MBP's. This is likely to be because they are specced too close to the 500mA or that the ports are delivering a few mA less. The other point which has made a difference for some who have already spent their money is that quite often a device will work from one usb port but not another even though the ports are supposedly the same spec.
I can't comment on the specific drive you're looking at. Can I suggest that you ask the dealer whether you can get a full refund if the drive draws more current than the MBP provides.
The age of your MBP is not an issue here. The latest MBP's are no different in this regard.
    Neville
The consensus of opinion is to buy external Firewire drives if possible. These ports apparently provide more power for the hub-powered hardware.

  • 10.4.11 no good anymore for new ipoda

    Hi guys
I have a 2007 macbook which I am very happy with. I had no problems running 10.4.11 up to now.
Now I see apple are making it harder for me to shop with them as all new products require 10.5. However if your a pc user you can hang onto windows xp! Why are us loyal mac users being punished. Its not as if the ipad or latest ipods have any mega requirements. One would have thought itunes 10 would do the job. I always keep this up to date. So now to continue using my mac and use new ipods I have to put my machine under pressure with 10.5 (plus the cost!). I hear this will keep the fan running alot as I only have 2gb. Does anyone else feel frustrated?

I can think of another reason to still own a Tiger: cost.
I have been completely satisfied with macs, until now. My computer (Mac OS X 10.4.11) works great, except that now apple is saying it's too old for new software! I just bought an 4G I pod to find out that I have to spend yet more money to buy Leopard just so I can get music on it! I'll just bring my songs to my friend with a 10 year old PC and have him update it, the next computer I'll buy is a PC, one that won't make me pay to update software every 3 years! I bought this for my college computer, to last me 4 years at least, it's been 3 1/2. When you buy a computer you expect it to be durable and last a decent amount of time. I don't have money to buy the most recent version, especially when my PC friends don't have to worry about it! Really, this is frustrating.

I was wondering if I could exchange my old downloaded iTunes songs for new ones that are DRM free.

  • Exchange old iPad for a new iPad

Are you able to exchange the a new 3rd iPad for a new 4th iPad

Most of the people on these forums, including myself, are fellow users - you're not talking to Apple or iTunes Support here.
Apple don't do trade-ins. If you bought it from Apple within the past 14 days then you can take it back for a refund. Otherwise if you want the iPad 4 then you will probably be better off in terms of value by selling your current iPad privately (e.g. to family, a friend, or possibly via sites such as eBay) rather than trying to find a store that will do a trade-in.

  • If i buy a new ipod touch now, can i exchange it for the new version?

I am gonna get a new ipod touch 8GB as part of the education deal when buying an imac before the 7th sept. I am wondering if i can exchange it for one of the new ones when they are announced and in stores a week or two later? If i bought a macbook pro in store or online i know i can exchange it within 30 days (by paying a price difference to the new model) or get a discount (if the prices for the old model went down within 30 days of me purchasing).
Would this apply to the ipod touch too, if i get it through the education store?

Sorry, but the iPod touch from the Back-To-School promotion could not be returned nor exchanged. The promotion is actually a rebate (unless you're referring to a promotion other than in the US); you choose your qualifying iPod model and purchase it, and will then get a rebate back of up to $199 (it varies depending on the model of iPod you choose).
The US promotion applies only to specific iPod models and expires on September 7th, so it would not apply to any iPod model released after that date. For the full terms, see:
