Exec "alter system" and setup UTL_MAIL on Primary and replicate to Standby

Hi!
I have the next configuration:
DGMGRL> show configuration verbose;
Configuration - work_DataGuardConfig
Protection Mode: MaxAvailability
Databases:
primary - Primary database
physical1 - Physical standby database
physical2 - Physical standby database
Properties:
FastStartFailoverThreshold = '30'
OperationTimeout = '30'
FastStartFailoverLagLimit = '30'
CommunicationTimeout = '180'
FastStartFailoverAutoReinstate = 'TRUE'
FastStartFailoverPmyShutdown = 'TRUE'
BystandersFollowRoleChange = 'ALL'
Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Configuration Status:
SUCCESS
How to properly setup UTL_MAIL package in my configuration (Primary and Standby Servers), e.g.:
1. If I execute " @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlmail.sql " on Primary, it will replicate to Standby?
2. If I execute " alter system set smtp_out_server='smtp.server.local' scope=both " on Primary, it will replicate to Standby?
3. If I execute
begin
dbms_network_acl_admin.create_acl (
acl => 'utl_mail.xml',
description => 'Allow mail to be send',
principal => 'SCOTT',
is_grant => TRUE,
privilege => 'connect'
commit;
end;
on Primary, this changes will replicate to Standby?

In all cases (1,2,3) you are doing only system changes. System changes is not effective on standby database.
For example in your case : alter system set smtp_out_server='smtp.server.local' scope=both;
this script only set a parameter of database, how to you think this parameter must be chaged on standby?
Is it logically?
Then when we change log_archive_dest_2 for transport redo to standby, then this parameter will change on standby. is it true?

  • Alter system and Alter database

    Hi all,
    Can U please tell me the difference between alter system and alter database.
    Thanks in advance...

    From SQL Reference
    Use the ALTER SYSTEM statement to dynamically alter your Oracle Database instance. The settings stay in effect as long as the database is mounted.
    Use the ALTER DATABASE statement to modify, maintain, or recover an existing database.
    instance => the processes using the database files

  • Primary RAC with physical standby

    Hi all,
    i have production setup as below
    2 node 10gR2 RAC on win2K3 datafiles on ASM
    Oracle Standard edition
    On the standby site it will be a manual standby (since SE) .
    Biz doesnt want the archives to be on local NTFS partition, hence the archives are on ASM. To resfresh the standby i need to transfer the archives through RMAN (catalog database is used) but facing issues when i take archive backup and put it on standby (error says that the files are already on storage) . So i am unable to refresh .
    i guess it should be done through some scripts .... but how to register archives on the standby site.
    Xml interface through catxdb was also tried(where we can ftp files from asm) but it takes only one file at a time so there will be manual intervention and not effective strategy
    one more question: can i mount a shared drive (archives on this location) on primary RAC and same to be mounted on standby. If this is possible then i just need to shutdown the standby and give path of archives in asm and recovery can be done ?
    pls share your feedback.....
    thanks
    [email protected]

    So what I would do is this :
    On the Primary :
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=defer;
    Then stop recovery on the Standby and shutdown the database.
    Startup mount and start recovery again and run you query again on that sequence.
    If it finally clears enable the primary again.
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=enable;
    If not try to register it yourself.
    By chance does this show its waiting for a gap
    select process, status, sequence#, block# from v$managed_standby;Best Regards

    If you have a PPC Mac, you can't install Windows unless you are using something like Parallels or a virtual application.  If you are using Boot Camp, eject the disc, reboot and try again.

  • OES11 SP2 - Linux File System and NSS Pools & Volumes

    Planning to install our first OES11 SP2 server into an existing tree - the
    idea is to run this new OES11 server virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5
    The existing tree has two physical NW6.5SP8 servers running eDirectory
    Version 8.7.3.10b (NDS Version 10554.64). One of the existing Netware
    servers is used for DHCP/DNS, File Sharing from three NSS volumes and
    Groupwise 7.0.4 whilst the second server is used for FTP services and
    eDirectory redundancy. Ultimately the plan is to have two virtualized OES11
    SP2 server with one for file sharing and the other for making the move from
    GW7 to GW2012. And we're planning to stick with NSS for file sharing on the
    new OES11 SP2 server.
    I've come across a couple of posts for earlier versions of OES which
    recommended not to put the Linux Native OS File System and NSS storage
    pools/volumes on the same hard drive. Apparently the advice was a result of
    needing to allow EVMS to manage the drive which could be problemmatic.
    I've read the OES11 documentation which says that "The Enterprise Volume
    Management System (EVMS) has been deprecated in SLES 11, and is also
    deprecated in OES 11. Novell Linux Volume Manager (NLVM) replaces EVMS for
    managing NetWare partitions under Novell Storage Services (NSS) pools."
    So I'm wondering if there is still a compelling requirement to keep the
    Linux Native File System and NSS pools/volumes on separate hard drives or
    can they both now safely co-exist on the same drive without causing
    headaches or gotchas for the future?
    Neil

    Hi Willem,
    Many thanks for the further reply.
    So we can just use the VMWare setup to "split" the one physical drive into
    two virtual drives (one for the OS and the second for the pools).
    And I've seen posts in other forums about the need for a decent battery
    backed cache module for the P410i controller so I'll make sure we get one
    (probably 512Mb module + battery).
    Can I ask what is the advantage of configuring each VM's virtual disk to run
    on it's own virtual SCSI adapter (by setting disk1 to scsi 0:0, disk2 to
    scsi 1:0, and so on)?
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • Alter system set events Question

    Version 10202 on AIX
    sql> alter system set events '4030 trace name heapdump level 536870917; name errorstack level 3';
    Questions about this statement..
    what this command is doing, i guess creating tracefile for event 4030...& the location of trace file would be the current direcotry?
    & how to setup same kind of event trace for other events, any tips....& what to check in tracefile for problem?

    The values for level I have record are 1, 2, 3, 8, and 32 so I am guessing the number shown is the address of a specific heap to be dumped. The address of a heap would potentially change with a change in the shared pool storage parameters. Where did you get the address value?
    The dump should go to the user background dump destination and not the current directory.

  • Ora-02065:Illegal option for alter system.

    Hi Dba's,
    I want to setup my database oracle 9i to use "FlashBack".
    My database is running in archivelog mode.
    First I've shutdown the DB and start it in mount mode.
    Then I tried:
    SQL> alter system set DB_FLASHBACK_RETENTION_TARGET=1800;
    But it doesn't work, I always got the same error:
    ora-02065:illegal option for alter system.
    I tried to connect as SYS,SYSTEM, everyone, the same error. The users must have FlashBack Privilege and Execute
    DBMS_FlashBack privileges. They're OK.
    I don't know how to solve this problem?!
    If someone could help me. Tks a lot.

  • Patching on PRD system and thereafter moving the logs to DR ?

    Patching on PRD system and thereafter moving the logs to DR, will the patches take effect in DR ?
    We have patched our PRD system to the latest APPL patch levels, we have a DR system in place, the link for which was disabled before we started our patching process. The DR system was successfully patched before taking up the activity on PRD.
    The link between the PRD and DR is still not restored.
    Now, that our PRD system is on the latest patch levels, my idea is restoring a full offline database backup of PRD on the DR system should make the DR system exactly identical to the PRD and the link between the two restored to allow for dynamic syncing thereafter.
    Is my above view correct ?
    Moreover, from my understanding, Patches are a bunch of SAP notes, SAP notes in-turn are basically code corrections for some objects, which ultimately means some entries are either written or deleted from database tables. My colleagues are of the view that instead of patching the DR server separately we could have actually restored the link and transferred the logs to the DR and the patches should have taken effect in the DR SERVER, is this alright ?
    From my past experience I am aware that once you restore an offline database backup onto any system, the patch level in the target system would become similar to the source system(the system whose offline backup is actually being restored).
    Thereby request the experts on the forum to give their views on the above.
    Many Thanks in advance

    when we take up any patching activity, can we just do it on the PRD and then move on the logs to the DR and the DR should also be on the same patch levels as PRD. ?
    Yes, its a normal patching process for Primary-->Secondary setups.
    You have to apply the application patches only on Production, then sync process takes care on DR (No need to apply the pathces here, infact you don't need to touch your exisiting DR system).
    As a best practice - Just perform a Quality refresh before performing patching activity, then you can perform your test Patching/Upgrade activity in your Quality system itself (Not on DR).

  • SYSTEM and SYS password 11g on Windows Vista

    Hello
    I am having trouble. I do not know my SYSTEM and SYS passwords. I am using oracle 11g on windows vista. I tried to change the passwords but that did not work. I tried this:
    c:/>sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    c:/>show user
    c:/>passw system
    then I changed the password. When I tried to log in the password change did not take effect. Any help would be great!

    Hi,
    There is no default password for sys and system in 11g.
    you cna use the below command to change the system or sys password
    alter user SYSTEM identified by PASWORD
    same for sys

  • System and Object privileges question

    hello everyone.
    I was really making it a priority to really understand both system and object privileges for users. I have setup a couple of 'sandboxes' at home and have done lots of testing. So far, it has gone very well in helping me understand all the security involved with Oralce (which, IMHO, is flat out awesome!).
    Anyway, a couple of quick questions.
    As a normal user, what view can I use to see what permissions I have in general? what about permissions on other schemas?
    I know I can do a:
    select * from session_privs
    which lists my session privileges.
    What other views (are they views/data dictionary?) that I can use to see what I have? Since this is a normal user, they don't have access to any of the DBA_ views.
    I'll start here for now, but being able to see everything this user has, would be fantastic.
    Cheers,
    TCG

    Sorry. should have elaborated more.
    In SQLPLUS, (logged in while logged into my Linux OS), I am working to try and get sqlplus to display the results of my query so it is easy to read. Right now, it just displays using the first 1/4 or 1/3 of the monitor screen to the left. Make sense? So it does not stretch the results out to utilize the full screen. it is hard to break down and read the results because they are "stacked" on top of each other.
    Would be nice if I could adjust sqlplus so the results are easier to read.
    HTH.

  • Client Delete and Logical System and CUA

    I'm getting ready to do some client clean up in prep for an upgrade from ECC 5 to ECC 6 soon.
    Currently we have a 3 system landscape: DV1 QA1 PR1
    Clients on these systems are as follows: (not including 000, 001, 066)
    PR1:100 - the production client
    QA1:100 - Integration Master - not used except for RFC connections for Solution Manager
    QA1:110 - Cycle 1 testing - not used
    QA1:120 - Cycle 2 testing - not used
    QA1:200 - Old training master client - not used
    QA1:201 - Old training client - not used
    QA1:710 - no longer being used for testing
    QA1:720 - client used for system and integration testing
    DV1:100 - Configuration - not used
    DV1:110 - ABAP development
    DV1:120 - Configuration
    DV1:700 - Template for test - not used
    DV1:710 - Test with prod data
    Most have a logical system defined for the client.
    I am going to delete those I've underlined above as they are no longer used.
    Some of these are setup in the CUA system.
    All are showing up in Solution Manager SMSY system landscape.
    My plan is to backup the system database first!
    Then:
    1) Delete the client(s) (SCC5) one by one
    2) Remove the client from CUA (SCUA)
    3) Remove the logical name (SALE)
    What I am unsure about is the order of the process.  Should the CUA and ALE modifications come before actually deleting the client?
    Does this sound like a reasonable plan to clean up our client landscape?
    Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help.
    Laurie McGinley

    Dear Laurie,
    Order should be like below:
    1) Remove the client from CUA (SCUA)
    2) Delete the client(s) (SCC5) one by one
    3) Remove the logical name (SALE)
    More over you should delete these clients from Solution Manager also inorder not to have error message when you go to solution Manager for doing anything on that system.
    Please revert back for any queries.

  • How to Create Primary DB and Physical/Logical Standby DB on the same host?

    Now I encounter a issue. I want to create one Primary DB and one Physical standby DB and one Logical standby DB on the same host.
    Create this env on the same host aims to test whether we can using EM Patching DP to apply patches on Primary/Physical/Logical DB successfully.
    I try to setup this env but fails. I want to know more related issues about create Primary DB /Physical DB/Logical DB on the same host and how to configure between them.
    Below steps is my try:
    1. Create Primary DB on the /scratch/primary_db
    2. Create Physical Db software only on the /scratch/physical_db
    3. Create Logical Db software only on the /scratch/logical_db
    4. Using EM Wizard to create physical standby database and logical standby database, and these two targets can show up on the "All Targets" Page.
    5. But when using EM Patching DP, it fails and the reason is the listener of physical and logical db cannot configured well.
    Issues:
    So I want to know about how to configure physical db and logical db's listener using EM or manually?
    If the listener name of Primary Db is LISTENER and the port is 1521,and the listener.ora is under the /scratch/primary_db/network/admin directory, then how to config physical db and logical db's listener's name and port?

    Hi,
    As this a test case then you need to create two more listener for each Oracle Home (/scratch/physical_db & /scratch/logical_db) make sure that they have different names and ports.
    Then add the new listeners manually using GC?
    Try it and let me know

  • Two SNC system and one execution system

    Hi Experts
    Can there be possibilty of Two snc system to co exist with one execution system ECC?
    IF yes can you folks please throw some light on the same?
    This situation is arising because:
    the Lime table in the existing system has really grown huge and the archiving is not helping becuase there are new records that are added to the system every day which are more than the archiving records
    because of this huge data the upgrade is not possible and we are planning for a new setup, now to mitigate the risk we were tryin if two SNC system can coexist with one EEC system.
    Now to add to the problem is there are certain business scenarios because of which we need to put in data in lime table every day
    so reduction in data input is not possible.
    As the data in LIME is only stock of the customer coming every day and if we just transaction data , even if we go away with all the data is not an issue with us as customer reports his existing stock on daily basis to us.
    We have even thought of truncating all the tables available in in lime objects in SARA, we are thinking of this becuase system might act erratic when we setup new system and slow try moving few customer from existing to new system. as a pilot.
    Supposing if we go ahead with it ,wht could be the issues ?
    Thanks for all your help and suggestions
    Regards

    Hi Manas
    Two SNC systems can coexist together.
    You need to define seperate Business System Groups,RFC settings,Logical System definition
    Also you need to have seperate Identification for your master data, create your own definition in BADI
    Example:If you are sending same material XXX to two SCM systems how to diferrentiate ???
    Because BADi methods EXIT_/SAPAPO/SAPLCIF_LOC_001 & EXIT_/SAPAPO/SAPLCIF_PROD_001
    differentiate when two ERP systems are connected to one SNC system by prefix and sufix, now you need to have your own code to differentiate
    Also big time care should be taken in defining the distrubution models (bd64) and even in XI/PI like
    Example: we have two TM systems coexisting with one ERP, so we used conditoned based mapping
    Itu2019s a condition based mapping.
    1)     When TransportationRequestSUITERequest/TransportationRequest/ShipToLocation/InternalID = BP1 or BP2 or BP3 u2026 the receiver is I5YCLNT100
    2)     When TransportationRequestSUITERequest/TransportationRequest/ShipToLocation/InternalID = BP4 or BP5u2026the Receiver is I5XCLNT100.
    Also care should be taken on master data/FICO settings which both systems use in common. like using Ztypes instead of using standard one like order type, message type. It should be easy when you troubleshoot back!!!
    The inbound message parameters should be taken care w.r.t business needs
    Good to have a matrix mapping like what business process coexit in both systems and which doesnot and then try to see what settings need to be tailored???
    Best Regards
