Executable left in memory - DAQmx related

I'm having problems with a built LV executable remaining in memory (in the process list in Windows task mgr) after exiting.  If I re-run the executable I get two copies of the process in task mgr; running it a third time gives me three copies, etc until I manually end the processes.  I'm using the "Quit (Exit) Labview" VI, and the LV front panel is closing, just the remnants are left in memory.
Interestingly, running the built .exe under Windows XP Pro does NOT show this behavior, but running it under Vista Home Premium (on the system where it needs to run) does.
I have distilled the code down to what I believe are the basics required to demonstrate this behavior (which I'd love to attach to this post, but can't figure out how to do so).  Basically, I'm creating a DAQmx task which is read in a timed loop.  I create a DAQmx timing source to act as the timer input to the timed loop.  When my user interface event structure detects the "stop" button being pressed, the event handler stops the timed loop, I clear the DAQmx task, and call the "Quit Labview" VI (outside the event structure).  Taking a divide-and-conquer approach, I've determined that if I comment out (with diagram disable structure) the"DAQmx Create Timing Source" VI, the program will exit and the process will be removed from memory correctly (of course, it doesn't take any data, either).  Also, when I have the Create Timing Source vi enabled, I get a filename collision warning about loadlvalarms.vi during build; if I comment out the Create Timing Source vi, no such build warning occurs.  I'm guessing these are related.
If someone can clue me in on how to attach a vi to a post, I'll be glad to post the sample code that demonstrates the problem.
- Brian

Stop task doesn't make any difference (I had already tried that too).  I'm beginning to suspect this is a Labview bug, rather than a programming error on my part, especially since I can only reproduce this under Windows Vista and not XP.  I started digging through LV release notes and found this:
http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7324#43026_by_category
I'm wondering if this known memory leak somehow isn't cleaned up by the "Quit Labview" vi under Vista.  I can tell you that if I disable the "Quit Labview" vi in the block diagram, and manually close the front panel hitting the "X" in the upper-right corner of the window, all traces are removed from the windows process list in task manager.
I also found this thread:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&thread.id=175009&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
...which refers to a warning that I'm still seeing in LV 8.6 when building this application.  I tried the suggestions in this thread, which do eliminate the build warning, but do NOT fix the left-in-memory problem I'm seeing.  I wonder if these are all related.
I can say with fair certainty that the problem is related to the "DAQmx Create Timing Source" vi.   If I disable that and set up the timed loop to run with a 1khz internal clock source (and set the loop period to 1000ms for the same update rate), I do not see this memory leak problem.  Barring any better solution, I may have to do that.  Sounds like NI has some work to do with timed loops under App Builder...

  • Clean install of windows 8 crashing with BSoD: "attempted execute of noexecute memory"

I recently bought this computer (sorry for hyperlink, but it is much easier than trying to list all the components):
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227593
I added a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD to it, and then I attempted to do a clean install of windows 8.1 onto the SSD from
the reinstall DVD that came with the system. Windows 8.1 appears to install correctly, but when the computer restarts to load windows for the first time, I get a BSoD with the error "attempted execute of noexecute memory". I tried reinstalling, but
    got the same error.
Note that for testing purposes, I installed windows 7 on the SSD, and it works great. Unfortunately, I do not have a windows

  • Building an Executable - Not Enough Memory to complete this operation

I am trying to build an executable from my project, it is quite a large program.  During the build, within the 'initializing build' phase, I get the error message 'not enough memory to complete this operation'.  I have a decent PC running XP and 4GB ram. LabVIEW is using about 1.2GB of ram when the problem occurs.
This is an application that I've been working on for some time and I have experienced similiar problems before.  To get round it I have added the /3GB switch to the boot.ini file.  However that is no longer working, it complains of a problem loading a dll which seems to have only started happening since moving to LV2012.
Does anybody have any experience with solving this problem please? It is a bit of a showstopper for me at the moment.
    Thank you,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
Adding the 3GB switch is a solution which should still work on your system.
I'm a little confused, is the system still complaining about not having enough memory? Or is it just the dll problem?
And is the error message occuring during the build, or when trying to run the .exe?
The dll in question is associated with DAQmx.
If it is a runtime problem rather than a build problem, it may be that you haven't included the DAQmx driver on the target machine, in which case the answer lies in this document: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5406/en
If I've misunderstood, please clarify the exact issue which is currently occuring, and we can continue to troubleshoot.

  • Freezing problem/Kernel_Task memory usage-related?

I have a 1ghz 14" ibook G4 with 684mb ram running 10.3.9, and my computer has been freezing a lot. Some of the crashes are kinda scary, with the display flipping out (looks like a colorful snowstorm) but most are just total freezeups. I did a system restore in August, but it hasn't eliminated the problem, so I've been keeping an eye on my system with the Activity Monitor. the biggest memory hog seems to be the Kernel_Task process under Root user, using up 1% of CPU, 52mb of Real Memory, 713mb of virtual memory with 39 threads. Does that seem like normal usage for Kernel Tasks? My system seems to have a large portion of it's memory constantly in use, around 600mb, and thought that they might be related...

I also just noticed that aound 320mb of the memory that Activity Monitor is saying is used is inactive. Don't know if that means anything...

  • Firefox 4 slowes down after some time - possibly memory leak related

After couple minutes of intensive Firefox 4 usage (multiple tabs opened and closed, however no more than 15 tabs open simultanously) browser becomes '''unresponsive''' and periodically '''generates high cpu load''' (100% of one of two cores for about 4 seconds), '''memory consumption''' becomes around 450MB.

It would be helpful if Mozilla could provide a memory profiling tool that would help us civilians track down memory problems either in the core products or in extensions. The suggestions to create new profiles, re-add extensions, and do A/B (C/D/E) testing along the way, while accurate, aren't practical when we discover that FF 4 on Win 7 is using north of 1GB of memory.

  • Memory deficiency related to AutoUpdate shipped with Office for Mac 2011

    Hi ,
I am experiencing memory deficiency associated with Microsoft AutoUpdate for about a month or two.
    Environment
    * Macbook Pro with 8G RAM, 256GB SSD Running Mac OS 10.10.1 (Yosemite)
    * Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 installed through my Office 365 University subscription a few months ago.
    * The "Outlook 2011.app"  has been deleted and is substituted by the new Outlook for Mac 15.3 (141024), as is suggested by its installation note.
    * System and Office languages are both simplified Chinese.
    Symptom
Office programmes like "Excel.app" regularly invoke Microsoft AutoUpdate (Version 3.0 (141024) ) and suggest that a new update is available.  If the user agrees, AutoUpdate will proceed to download the update. It is found by monitoring memory usage using "Activity Monitor.app", the memory usage rises significantly overtime a short while after the download begins. And the memory usage eventually saturates  a few minutes later and the system warns instability due to memory deficiency, and suggests force quit some apps.
    * No other app seems to be causing this problem, which is verified by quitting any app other than "/Library/Microsoft/MAU2.0/Microsoft AutoUpdate.app".
    * The symptom is reproducible for today's update, and it was the same for the last update. But as far as I can remember, the auto-update worked well before that.
The problem makes auto-update impossible and has resulted in instability and loss.
The workaround that I have at this time is to download the update package (.pkg in .dmg) from Microsoft Download Center by following the Knowledge Base link given by AutoUpdate instead of having AutoUpdate  do this for me.
Thank you for reading this far :-)
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper (v 2.8). Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
The effects of having actually used MacKeeper to do anything are a completely different matter. The fastest way to take an exquisitely designed and painstakingly engineered Mac and make it run like a steaming pile of dung is to install and use such ill-conceived "cleaning" or "security" products. This is just one example of a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing damage that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Never install such junk on a Mac.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.

  • SystemUIServer leaks memory, possibly related to spotlight

SystemUIServer leaks memory. Immediately after reboot it occupies about 8 to 9 MB (real) on my system. Climbing to more than 17MB after only 30 minutes. After 3 days, 20 hours of uptime total real memory consumption of the SystemUIServer process was 441MB. Upon researching the process I found this forum devoted to Spotlight and interaction with SystemUIServer. Testing, I found Spotlight was unresponsive, the tool would not pull down and it didn't respond to the keboard shortcut.
Killing SystemUIServer brings the process memory usage back down but it continues to climb as it runs. Spotlight became responsive.
System is fully patched and updated.
I also noticed after rebooting from update that iSync logs messages like the following in console.log:
2007-08-09 05:54:54.180 SyncServer[3857] A Sync Server is already running on this computer, exiting process.

I guess my question would be, does anyone know when Apple is going to fix either Spotlight or SystemUIServer so it doesn't leak/crash as seems to so common here in the discussion groups?
Probably need a bit more troubleshooting...
My uptime is now 3days 20 hours -odd coincidence.
SystemUIServer is using 10.96MB Real Mem.
So, I don't know if I would expect Apple to already believe that there is a problem needing to be fixed. Really, don't think anything in this forum can be considered "common." For a core function of the OS, the Spotlight forum is now one of the quietest of all the Tiger forums- only one that sees less action is UniversalAccess.
Anyway, I'm not sure why you're having a problem with memory leaks in SystemUIServer or with Spotlight, and I'm not enough of a developer to tell you how you could debug it. All I can say is that your situation is not the norm and that there is likely something specific to your situation that is causing it. The unresponsiveness of Spotlight may very well be a side effect of the memory leak which is being caused by something else on the menubar.

Yeah, I know it. My requirements are pretty whacked out right now. I have an idea why they don't want to save it, but I'm not 100% sure.
What I'm attempting to do is have an applet download a jar and execute that in memory. The actual jar needs hardware interaction, in particular serial port connection. I have a post in the signed applet forum about the applet/jar thing, but I'm not quite sure how to just hold a virtual executable. I mean, I wouldn't issue a java -jar on it correct?
And are you saying most browsers won't allow a custom classloader?

  • How is SWAP space and Oracle's Shared Memory related ?

    Platform: RHEL 5.4

MEMORY_TARGET not supported on this system
I gathered that In Linux, if you want to set MEMORY_TARGET, MEMORY_MAX_TARGET to nGB , then you should have a SWAP ( /dev/shm ) of nGB.
My Swap was only 16gb and I was trying to set memory_max_target to 20g
    $ df -h /dev/shm
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
tmpfs                  16G  7.2G  8.6G  46% /dev/shmNow, I am wondering how is Oracle's Shared Memory (SGA+PGA) related to SWAP space in a server ? Shouldn't Oracle's Shared Memory be related to Physical RAM rather than disk based SWAP space ?

    related question:
In the above mentioned OTN article it says ,
You could encounter ORA-00845 if your shared memory is not mapped to /dev/shm
    I think he meant
You could encounter ORA-00845 if your SWAP space is not mapped to /dev/shm .
    Am I right ?

  • 'Your system has run out of application memory'?!

I've seen many users experiencing this same problem throughout the community, but none of the fixes have given me a permanent solution. Details of the machine are below, as well as what happens when the problem hits/triggers.
MBP Retina running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 (occurred in previous versions as well, thought the latest update would help but it didn't)
15-Inches Mid 2014 with 16 GB of Ram
Been using this Mac for good 6 months now, and one fine day of normal usage the whole system seems really laggy and slow and all of a sudden i'm unable to access anything and barely move my mouse. Then, a window pops out, telling me "Your system has run out of application memory", gracefully showing me that I have to force quit all my programmes for me to just stare at my desktop in utter disappointment.
I've been using Yosemite for awhile now (updated few days since the release) and haven't encountered any major issues, this being the first. Reading through many threads many have said that the problem lies with opening the Mail app, yet I haven't touched that app in months. I've also tried resetting the PRAM on my machine when it happens and the problem comes back again after several minutes of normal usage (iTunes, App Store). Checking the memory usage with the Memory Clean app, it tells me I'm down to a measly '15.58 MB' of memory, and it justfluctuates at that until I give it a restart again. This can't keep happening - I can barely use the Mac for 10 minutes without having to restart it, only to be able to use it only again for another 10 minutes.
Opening Activity Monitor tells me that mds_stores is the main root of the problem, yet I can't seem to shut the process down. I've googled and many say that mds_stores is spotlight indexing, but taking up all 16 GB of ram? That shouldn't be the case. Is there a fix to this? Does Apple know of its existence?
    Included some screenshots below:

    Step 1
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -F '$Time $Message' -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds | tail | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.
    Step 2
Enter the following command as in Step 1 and post the output:
    mdutil -as 2>&- | pbcopy
    You can then quit Terminal.
    Step 3
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Terminal. In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash reports related to Spotlight. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. A Spotlight crash report has a name beginning in "mds" or "mdworker" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent such report, if any, from the System and User subcategories and post the entire contents—the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.

  • Memory leak and char[] ?

    Hello all,
I'm not sure whether this post should be here or in WebLogic section, so correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm working on JDeveloper 11.1.1.3 while deployments are made on standalone WebLogic 10.3.3. This thing occurred in previous versions also.
With every deployment WebLogic increases it's used memory until the famous PermGen space error, which is after about 5-6 deployments.
I'm doing my best to understand how to use memleak detection tools. I've switched JDev and WL from Sun jdk which was used before to JRockit, same thing happens. Both JDev's memory profiler and JRockit mission control show something that I really do not understand. char[] uses around 30% of heap space and keeps growing with deployments, next is String with 8%. I never use char in app.
Am I looking at the wrong thing? Is it normal for char[] to increase on WebLogic on deployments? Does anyone know how to check other things and what to check? Someone on other forums mentioned it would be useful to check if ApplicationContext keeps initializing over again on deployments. Does anyone know how to check this?
One more thing, I have successfully deployed app on Tomcat, and Tomcat said there is a memory leak in app, but could not tell anything specific.
I'm kinda lost in this :(

It is normal for the PermGen space of the Sun's JVM to get filled after several re-deployments. PermGen stands for "permanent generational". This space is used by classes that is unlikely to need to be garbage-collected, so they are placed in this memory space that is never garbage-collected (for example, the Class instances). When you redeploy an application, a new class loader instance is used and it instantiates new Class instances that fill up the PermGen space. But why this happens on JRockit either, I could not explain.
We have experienced memory leaks related to classes and components that use native memory. For example, we have had significant memory leak when using Oracle's JDBC OCI driver. We were not able to solve this problem, so we switched to JDBC Thin driver (which is very performant and stable today comparing to some years ago). If you are using Oracle JRockit, you can monitor the overall memory usage by the following JRockit command executed at OS command line:
jrcmd <jrockit_pid> print_memusage>where <jrockit_pid> should be replaced by the JVM process ID.
If you suspect existence of native memory leaks, then have a look at the article Thanks for the memory for explanations about how Java uses native memory.

  • Import/Export code using Memory ID in BO Method

    Hi experts,
I am having a approver name and other relevant data in my report. I don't want to write the entire code I want to bring it into my BO method by using import/export memory id. Pl. guide me what should I do ? Is it possible or not?
    Thank you,
    Saquib

I am a bit confused that what you are trying to achieve. In any case I think you can forget any export/import memory ID related solutions - they will not work!
The workflow (or its step/task) is executing your BO method, right? You want this method to have some data when it gets executed? Normally you would want to populate the data to the workflow (or task) container, for example with function SAP_WAPI_WRITE_CONTAINER (you just need the work item ID). Then when this data is in the container, you can use it in your method (binding required).
Somehow I feel that you looking a difficult solution for a simple problem. If you need some relevant data in your workflow, let the workflow to find it (add a new step to the workflow, and copy/paste the relevant part of the code of your report to this step). (Or try to give the data to the workflow already when it gets started, if possible). Don't try to mix things with some separate report, unless it is completely necessary, and if it is, then writing into the container is most likely the best approach.

    Karri
