Execute multiple insertions?

Hello everyone,
i am using mysql database and what i need to do is this:
i have a simple text file with many insertions in sql. Is there a way to execute the insertions without having to read each statement from the file and execute it using stmt.executeUpdate()?
(Mysql does not have stored procedures)
Thanks

I guess i have to do that, but then another problem pops up. This is a sample code:
Connection C1 = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test?user=root");
C1.setAutoCommit(false);
Statement stmt1 = C1.createStatement();
stmt1.addBatch("INSERT INTO try1(data) VALUES(5);");
stmt1.addBatch("INSERT INTO try2(id, data) VALUES(1,2);");
stmt1.executeBatch();
C1.commit();
setAutoCommit throws exception and when i remove this code line, no exception is thrown but also no insertion is made.When i use executeUpdate() instead it works. What am i doing wrong? I am quite new to jdbc, so please help!
Thanks

    Whatever editor you are comfortable with. I assume there is one.
    btw if there are a lot of INSERT statements in the script it might be worth adding the following to the top:
    ALTER SESSION SET CURSOR_SHARING = SIMILAR;

  • How to execute multiple queries in one stored procedure.

    Hi,
    I am Kumar,
    How to execute multiple queries in one stored procedure.
    here is the my requirements,
    1. get the max value from one table and sum of the that value.
    2. insert the values and also sum of the max value.
    using stored procedure
    I am using SQL server 2000 database.
    Please help me.
    Advance thanks
    by,
    Kumar

    This is not a java question and it is not even a problem: your only problem is
    1) lack of knowledge
    2) lack of interest to find a manual
    But you are going to have to change both by actually reading a book or a manual that explains the stored procedure language of SQL Server. It is the same as Sybase I think, so you could also look for a manual for that DBMS.

  • CLR trigger - handling multiple inserts at the same time

    Hi
    I've developed a CLR trigger which operates on inserts performed on a staging table. The trigger implements some business logic and then inserts or updates a record in a target table. Whether an insert or update is performed depends on whether
    a record with the same ID already exists in the target (i.e. a select * from target where ID = 123).
    This works fine in most scenarios, but occasionally I am getting duplicates in the target table and have noticed that this seems to occur when inserts on the staging table happen at exactly the same time (i.e. multiple inserts for the same ID at
    the same time). In this situation duplicates are created in the target table because at the time of the inserts, no record with that ID exists in the target table (i.e. the select returns no records), therefore a new record is created for each.
    Is there a known way to deal with this scenario? For example, would locking the target table on insert result in the subsequent selects against the target table waiting until the target table had been updated, therefore the select would return a record
    for the given ID.
    I didn't really want to lock the whole target table on insert, because there are potentially other users reading that table (selects) and these would also have to wait for the insert to complete.
    I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to deal with this and avoid duplicates in the target table. I'm unable to change the way the data is coming in to the staging table, so my trigger code must deal with the above scenario.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    First if you do not want any duplicate values in a column (or combination of columns) you should add a constraint to ensure this is never possible. A
    unique index
    like this should do this trick.
    CREATE UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_yourIndexName] ON [dbo].[YourTableName]
    [yourColumn1] ASC,
    -- add more columns that make the unique combination that you don't want repeated
    You can then add a try/catch block in your trigger code, if you get an exception based on this index then the record was created by another executing instance of this trigger and in that case you should do an update (or not, not sure what the rest of your
    logic is) in your catch block. This is the easiest solution and does not involve table locks. The only drawback is the first one to commit the insert will win and you have no guarantee which process or data set that will be. Also i have no idea how big the
    table is, how frequently changes are made, and what the data type is so you should
    keep this in mind when creating your index so you don't run into unexpected high index fragmentation which can lead to performance problems when executing updates and inserts.
    You could also create a
    named transaction with scope serializable around your insert/update block and execute your reads using a
    NOLOCK hint
    which should allow them to retrieve uncommitted writes and not create a long wait. The downside is is that the data might not be 100% accurate depending on if a transaction fails or not if there happens to be an update at the same time as a select but maybe
    this is not a big deal to the calling code.

  • Executing multiple DDL statements with OracleCommand

    hi..
    im having trouble executing multiple ddl statements with the the oracle command object. i have tried to enclose them within Begin.. End; block but with no use.
    this problem seems to occur only with DDL statements,.. as my DML like update, delete and Inserts seem to work fine when enclosed within the PL /SQL block.
    single DDL statements also seem to work fine. so im guessing this has nothing to do with priviledges. any ideas?
    my code as follows
    OracleCommand command = new OracleCommand();
    command.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
    command.CommandText = string.Format(@"{0}",script);
    conn.Open();
    command.Connection = conn;
    command.ExecuteNonQuery();
    the script is read from a file, and looks like this. (note : i have removed any line breaks or any other characters)
    BEGIN ALTER TABLE SYSTEMUSER DISABLE CONSTRAINT FK_USER_CLIENT; ALTER TRIGGER SET_SUBSCRIPTION_SUB_I DISABLE; END;
    this is the error i get.
    Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "ALTER" when expecting one of the following:
    begin case declare exit for goto if loop mod null pragma
    raise return select update while with <an identifier>
    <a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable> <<
    close current delete fetch lock insert open rollback
    savepoint set sql execute commit forall merge pipe.

    If I'm not mistaken, we're not allowed to issue DDL inside anonymoue block (or stored procedure) since DDL has implicit commit in it. But you still can execute DDL using EXECUTE IMMEDIATE or using DBMS_SQL package. Try changing your CommandText like this,
    BEGIN
       EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER TABLE SYSTEMUSER DISABLE CONSTRAINT FK_USER_CLIENT';
       EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER TRIGGER SET_SUBSCRIPTION_SUB_I DISABLE';
    END;Hope this helps,

  • Stored procedure for exec. multiple insert queries

    Hello everybody,
    I am running on
    select banner from v$version;
    Output:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    I am a new to oracle and I need some help.
    I have to populate a table on monthly basis, for which I am required to run 20 queries.
    All queries retrieve data from the same table in another schema.
    I need to schedule a SP in order to be able to run all these queries.
    Till now, I have built separate SPs for the queries Proc_1, Proc_2, Proc_3, ..., Proc_20 and a final big SP (*main_sp*) which calls these SPs.
    Being that I have to change the date value for every month (I am doing it manually every single month), for every single query,
    I was wondering if there is a way to include all these queries in a single stored procedure.
    I am reading here execute parallel queries
    but I do not want to create 20 jobs.
    I found this topic, which seems to be interesting too, but I have never done this before:
    Executing multiple SQL scripts in a batch
    Moreover, how can I manage to insert the value of date only once (e.g in the main_sp) and every queries gets this value automatically.
    P.S.
    All queries retrieve data from the same table in another schema and fill in with data the same table in actual schema.
    insert into destin_tbl
    select from source_tbl@dbb_link
    Here is how my actual work looks like:
    First, I have built 20 sp, for each and every query:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "SP_1" (
    START_DATE out DATE,
    IS
    BEGIN
    START_DATE := SYSDATE;
    insert /*+ append nologging parallel(x,4)*/into destin_tbl x
    select /*+ parallel(a,4)*/ field_1, field_2, field_3
    from source_tbl@dbb_link a
    where a.date_key >= 20101201 and a.date_key < 20100101 -- full month (december 2010) here
    and other conditions
    commit;
    END SP_1;
    = = = = = =
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "SP_2" (
    START_DATE out DATE,
    IS
    BEGIN
    START_DATE := SYSDATE;
    insert /*+ append nologging parallel(x,4)*/into destin_tbl x
    select /*+ parallel(a,4)*/ field_1, field_2, field_3
    from source_tbl@dbb_link a
    where a.date_key >= 20101201 and a.date_key < 20100101 -- full month (december 2010) here
    and other conditions
    commit;
    END SP_2;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "SP_20" (
    START_DATE out DATE,
    IS
    BEGIN
    START_DATE := SYSDATE;
    insert /*+ append nologging parallel(x,4)*/into destin_tbl x
    select /*+ parallel(a,4)*/ field_1, field_2, field_3
    from source_tbl@dbb_link a
    where a.date_key >= 20101201 and a.date_key < 20100101 -- full month (december 2010) here
    and other conditions
    commit;
    END SP_20;
    I change the values for the date_key field every month I need to insert data, before I run the main_sp:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "main_sp" (
    START_DATE out DATE
    IS
    BEGIN
    sp_1(START_DATE);
    sp_2(START_DATE);
    sp_3(START_DATE);
    sp_20(START_DATE);
    END main_sp;
    /

    You would need to pass a parameter to the main procedure and to all of the sub procedures. I would do it somethign like this. The main procedure takes a single date parameter the way I have structured it here, any date in the month you are interested in will do
    PROCEDURE main_sp(p_date IN DATE)
       l_st_dt  VARCHAR2(8);
       l_end_dt VARCHAR2(8);
    BEGIN
       l_st_dt := TO_CHAR(TRUNC(p_date, 'Mon'), 'yyyymmdd');
       l_end_dt := TO_CHAR(LAST_DAY(p_date) + 1, 'yyyymmdd');
       sp_1 (l_st_dt, l_end_dt);
       sp_2 (l_st_dt, l_end_dt);
    END;Then your individual procedures would look something like:
    PROCEDURE SP_1 (p_st_dt  IN VARCHAR2,
                    p_end_dt IN VARCHAR2) IS
    BEGIN
       insert /*+ append nologging parallel(x,4)*/into destin_tbl x
       select /*+ parallel(a,4)*/ field_1, field_2, field_3
       from source_tbl@dbb_link a
       where a.date_key >= p_st_dt and a.date_key < p_end_dt -- full month (december 2010) here
         and other conditions
       commit;
    END;
    Regarding the queries...they do not change only in the conditions statement, but also in the retrieve.
    I have 2 constant fields, whose value changes based on conditions (e.g. query_1 retrieves data regarding diesel car >speed => constant_field_1 = 'Diesel|_Car_Speed' ... query_2 retrieves data related to motorbike unleaded speed >=> constant_field_1 = 'MotorB_UL_Speed'.
    These makes the grouping of these queries impossible.Without seeing actual queries, it is impossible to say, but my guess would be that the 20 queries could be reduced to a single query, or at least less than 20. Something like:
    insert into destin_tbl x
    select CASE WHEN condition that indicates car THEN 'Diesel|_Car_Speed'
                WHEN condition that indicates motor bike THEN 'MotorB_UL_Speed'
                WHEN other conditions THEN other field1 values END
           field_2, field_3
    from source_tbl@dbb_link a
    where a.date_key >= p_st_dt and
          a.date_key < p_end_dt
      and other conditionsThe conditions for the CASE statement could be pulled out of the where caluses for the individual queries.

  • How to execute multiple sql statements in oracle?

    I want to execute multiple statements in a single transaction in oracle. Following are my queries:
    Create table temp_table as Select * from table;
    SELECT * FROM temp_table d;
    drop table temp_table ;
    I am using sql comment text in asp.net
    I am using executenonquery command in asp.net.
    Thanks,
    Divya

    SigCle ,
    Here's an example that executes 3 statements;
    begin insert into foo values(1); insert into foo values(2); insert into foo values(3); end;
    923354,
    The block doesn't compile because temp_table doesn't exist at the point you're trying to compile the anonymous block. I'd recommend re-reading the doc link and forum link provided to get a better understanding of how temp tables work, as it's simply different with Oracle. You don't create Oracle temporary tables on the fly; you create them ahead of time and then just use them. The data itself is already specific to a particular session; you don't create and drop the table each time.
    Also, you can't just "select * from table" in plsql. The results have to GO SOMEWHERE. Usually you'd either open a cursor and process it in the block, or send out a ref cursor if you want to send the data to a client side app. The ref cursor data wouldn't actually be fetched until the block completes though, so you'd need to use ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS, which would also mean you'd need to clean up the data yourself (delete the data from the table when you're done with it).
    Corrections/comments welcome.

  • Web Service executing multiple times

    We are noticing an ongoing problem with web services both consumed in SAP as well as web services published in SAP and consumed via .NET applications.  In both cases, we are occasionally seeing examples of a single web service method calls executing multiple times.  For example, one of our methods in our SAP generated web services inserts records into a custom Z table.  We are noticing that for a single invocation of the web service, data records are appearing multiple times in the custom table.  We have placed code inside of the function in SAP to catch these multiple executions, but the code does not recognize the duplicates because most likely, the commit from the previous execution has not yet occurred.  We have time stamped the inserts into the table and can see that they do not have the same time.  Our web services are being created in SE80.  My guess is this is some sort of caching issue.  Has anyone run into a similar problem?  We are using NetWeaver 7.0 and SAP ECC 6.0.

    Hi Developers,
    I have the same question, is it possible to have multiple outgoing parameters?
    When not, does SAP Netweaver knows a IN-OUT parameter? Because I found on the internet that it is possible to have a IN-OUT parameter. But that was with the BEA Weblogic 8.x.
    When not, is then the only solution to return a object? With in this object all the parameters you want.
    Or otherwise is there a other workaround?
    Thanks in advance,

    hi,
    PR() will be called whenever your page will load, so the number of times you will load your page all the time your PR will be called and it will call the AM method.
    otherwise put some condition and call the insert method from your PR.

  • Execute multiple dml statements concurrently.

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement to execute multiple dml statements at the same time. I tried to achieve this using dbms_job, but failed.
    I scheduled 3 dbms_job at the same time. Each job has a bulk insert statement, inserting into a single target table. The 3 jobs kicked off, but there were close a minute apart.
    Is there any other way to achieve this?

    You can launch 3 separate SQL Plus sessions, but how do you execute the dml statements at the same exact time?From my desktop machine, here's how I'd do it:
    Create a dos batch file (runall.cmd for example) that looks like this:
    start some_command.cmd
    start some_command.cmd
    start some_command.cmd
    Then just double click on it. This will lauch some_command.cmd in 3 separate sessions. Each will be launched but will not wait to complete before launching the next.
    Inside the batch file, some_command.cmd, you can have whatever you want. But it will probably be sqlplus.exe with some command line options (one of them a .sql script).
    This is how I've used Tom Kite's "DIY Parallelization". But I normally would have a parameter (like a range or something) to keep the DMLs mutually exclusive.

  • Executing multiple queries stored in multiple rows

    Hi,
    I have a question. I have a table that contains import scripts for my database. Below is the set up
    ID Table
    Date Script
    1 TableA
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableA] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    2 TableB
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableB] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    3 TableC
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableC] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    4 TableD
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableD] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    5 TableE
    5/28/2013 INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    6 TableE
    5/29/2013 INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    7 TableE
    5/30/2013 INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    8 TableE
    5/31/2013 INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    9 TableE
    6/3/2013 INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    10 TableE
    6/4/2013 INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    11 TableF
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableF] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    12 TableF
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableF] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    13 TableF
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableF] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    14 TableF
    NULL INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableF] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'…
    I wrote 4 queries to execute the scripts for table A to D as following:
    DECLARE @A varchar(500)
    SET @A = (SELECT Script FROM TABLE WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE A')
    EXECUTE (@A)
    DECLARE @B varchar(500)
    SET @B = (SELECT Script FROM TABLE WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE B')
    EXECUTE (@B)
    DECLARE @C varchar(500)
    SET @C = (SELECT Script FROM TABLE WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE C')
    EXECUTE (@C)
    DECLARE @D varchar(500)
    SET @D = (SELECT Script FROM TABLE WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE D')
    EXECUTE (@D)
    Now I also wish to execute the script from Table E, but only for the Month of May so I decided to write this query
    DECLARE @E varchar(500)
    SET @E = (SELECT Script FROM TABLE WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE E' AND [Date] BETWEEN '2013-05-01' AND '2013-05-31)
    EXECUTE (@E)
    I guess this query can't execute because my statement selects more than one script. Now I have data going back to two years and I don't want to write close to 700 statements. Is there a way around it?
    Thank you very much in advance!
    Cheers

    I guess this query can't execute because my statement selects more than one script. Now I have data going back to two years and I don't want to write close to 700 statements. Is there a way around it?
    what do you mean by "my statement select more that one script" ?
    why do you want to exec all select statement separately ?
    you can combine select statement with UNION ALL,
    and do you want to specify the date range dynamically , first you specified may and two year is there related to data
    Well, if ever i would write
    SELECT Script FROM TABLE WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE E' AND [Date] BETWEEN '2013-05-01' AND '2013-05-31'
    I would get this as an answer
    INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'… Script for 5/28/2013
    INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'… Script for 5/29/2013
    INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'… Script for 5/30/2013
    INSERT INTO [dbo].[TableE] SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'… Script for 5/31/2013
    Now I want to dynamicaly be able to execute multiple scripts based on a where function. I could also write something saying
    WHERE [Table] = 'TABLE E' AND [Date] BETWEEN '2010-01-01' AND GETDATE()
    In any case, I would need it to first execute script for 5/28/2013, then script for 5/29/2013, etc..
    Thank you in advance,
    Cheers

  • Create multiple Insert statements from multiselect list

    I want to thank everyone in advance for the help on this one.
    I have a multiselect list that I would like to use to create multiple Insert statements. I would like to then take those statements and execute them against the database, thus inserting the records. My thoughts are below;
    1.     Customer selects multiple items in the list
    2.     Clicks the submit button
    3.     onclick event walks through the string created by the multiselect list and creates the Insert statements by walking through an array of the values.
    4.     the Insert statements get executed against the database
    5.     page redirects to the proper page after the process is done.
    I actually have already created a javascript function that will use the split command on the string to create an array. I then get the length of the array and walk through a loop creating the sql statements. I am not sure what to do from here. How can I get the sql to execute.
    I am not wed to this approach. If there is a better idea out there please do not hesitate to share it with me. I am relatively new to APEX and have not done much work in pl/sql or javascript. But I learn fast, so don’t hold back.
    Thanks again and please let me know what questions you have for me.
    Derek.

    I setup the demo app on apex.oracle.com:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=26255:3
    Login as demo / demo
    Go to the "products" tab. There is a Test region with a multiselect list. It shows product names (with product id's) from the demo_product_info table.
    When you select multiple things from the list and click apply, it uses the following procedure to simply insert a new record for each into the product table. It increments the product_id by 1000 and prepends "DUPLICATE " to the product_name:
    declare
    cursor c_products is
    select product_name, product_id
    from demo_product_info
    where instr(':' || :P3_X || ':', ':' || product_id || ':') >= 1
    order by 1
    begin
    for r_product in c_products loop
    insert into demo_product_info (product_id, product_name)
    values (r_product.product_id + 1000, 'DUPLICATE ' || r_product.product_name);
    end loop;
    end;
    You can see that is working by using it on the duplicate entries themselves.
