Executing commands without connecting to a specified database

Hello...
I want to create a new database using some sql commands
I already have the commands, the problem is that I need to send these commands to the Oracle itself (without connecting to a specified database, the same as the SQL*PLUS /NOLOG option)
I tried many variations of connection strings, but non of them works (whenever I tried connecting to the main machine, I got the obvious error: ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA)
how can I connect directly to the main Oracle?
(until now, our product worked with sqlserver, which has the "master" db integrated, and all commands can be performed through it... as far as I know, oracle doesn't have something like this)
thanks in advance
Nissim

I think you should ask your dba to give you the sid first.
and he should create the schema/user to connect to.
or you can ask him to give you system password to create a user and grant it permission.
then only you can connect to the oracle.
now after connecting to the oracle you have the database script(sqlserver and oracle syntax is little different).
you can say database in sqlserver is equivalant to schema in oracle.

    what might be the problem...
    I developed the report in 10g Report Builder. and moved to 1.5.10.2 instance... ran that report in my report builder using apps user and..it is running fine in my report builder.

    hi bsubbu
    your password of custom application user schema at database level should be similar with the password at application level
    for instance your custom application schema name and password is xxgis/xxgis , we register this schema at application site by this navigation
    security> oracle > register >database username (xxgis) > password (xxgis)
    here you might have change your custom application user's password at database level using
    alter user xxgis identified by newpassword;
    change this user password at application site also :
    security> oracle > register> database username (xxgis) > password (newpassword)
    i understand this from the document

    This application does not fail in other databases, only in which I have the problem.
    The connection to the database through the SQLPLUS and other applications works well. The error is presented only when calling reports from the application.
    Another point is that the problem is presented with some users and not with others even they have the same conditions as roles, profiles, grant objects, etc.
    If i run my report with the following url applying directly on address bar of web browser then it run fine on web browser
    http://hostname.domain:port/reports/rwservlet?report=myreport.jsp&userid=un/pw@db&destype=cache&desformat=PDF
    OAS 10g and Database are on different machines.
    Please... any idea about this problem?
    Thanks!!

    I use a report object, imagine that sends connect information when creating the Job in the reports server.
    However the same problem happens if I call to report from the Internet Explorer with all parameters of connectivity, for example;
    http://hostname.domain:port/reports/rwservlet?report=myreport.rep&userid=un/pwdb@&destype=cache&desformat=PDF
    The only difference in this database is that it is configured in a RAC and as I mentioned the problem occurs with some users and not with others, even if they are identical.
    Thank for your help!

  • Opca could not connect to the specified database

    I have both Oracle 9.2 database and Oracle 9iAS R2 Standard Edition installed in my same home pc. The origin database name is FIRST and the listener port is 1526.
    My pc's host name is mypc.chen.com and the IP address in my local LAN is 192.168.0.1. I have no DNS server.
    In "hosts" file I added a line: 192.168.0.1 mypc.chen.com
    While running opca to install Portal, I entered password of SYS login of database FIRST and connection string "mypc.chen.com:1526:first". I got error message saying "could not connect to the specified database".
    In Net8 Assistant local Profile, the naming method was HOSTNAME. But I got the same error message when I change it to TNSNAMES.
    Please if anyone can help.
    Thanks a lot.

    This is a security feature introduced in 11.5.10, and it will not allow any client to connect to the database unless in it registered on the system through OAM.

  • Universe Connection - options for specifying database authentication

    Are there any options for specifying the id and password for a database connection from the Universe Designer other than entering them directly into the tool?  Our information security group prefers to administer security accounts (i.e. user id's and passwords) in standard security products as compared to having to know development tools (e.g. Business Objects).
    Thank you.

    to create a connection you have to enter a user name or password for this connection.
    in your case, your Administrator can create those connections in the designer before they create any universe and then give an access to which developers access which connections to create specific universes.
    to create a connection there is no other way more than entering the user name and password.
    in the XI 3.0 there is some new and very good option "User BusinessObjects Credentials Mapping"
    which i think send the current connected business objects user name and password to the connection user name and password.
    its just map the user name of the BO system to the user name of the connection, and same thing for the password, and for this you have to have a DB user name for every BusinessObjects user name,
    this is wide use with oracle databases.
    good luck

  • Executing commands when connection pool connections created

    Is there any way to set up connection pools to automatically execute a
    command when a connection is created?
    The system I'm working on needs (for a number of reasons outside of our
    control) to switch our connection to be rule based by executing:
    alter session set optimizer_goal=RULE;
    I guess we could add this functionality into our "getConnection" method but
    this just seems kind of inefficient.
    We're using WLS5.1sp11 on solaris2.6 talking to oracle 8.1.7 using
    weblogic.jdbc20.oci.Driver.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to persuade JDriver to initialise the
    pool with the command above?
    Thanks

  • How can you execute a form without connecting to database?

    Hello,
    Is it possible to run a form without connecting to database? If Yes, how?
    Thanking you very much
    Thobula Rakesh

    Hello Form Friends,
    After R&D I found that, it is very much possible to execute a form without connecting to Database.
    Example:
    Step 1: Create a new form 'Form1'
    Step 2: Create a block 'Block1' and add button'But1'. Write a exit_form built-in on when-button-pressed trigger on 'But1' and compile it.
    Step 3: Create a on-logon trigger at form level and just give a message('on-logon');
    Step 4: Execute the form.
    The form executes perfectly without asking any connection to the database. On-Logon trigger initiates a logon process to non-oracle data source.

    this can be done using the CallableStatement class.
    typecast the reference of the application module that you have to applicationmoduleimpl. ApplicationModuleImpl class has a method PrepareCallableStatement that returns an object of type CallableStatement. the prepare method takes 2 parameters. one is the statement to execute and one is the number of expected return rows. inorder to call an SP, the statement should be call <name od sp in caps>.
    to execute the statement, the callable statement class provides the execute() method. it has methods for specifying the IN OUT parameters also (go through jdeveloper help for details).

    Kernel patch num:254
    How to solve the issue?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi
    2 possible problems.
    1) tp is using the wrong profile
    2) the profile is not complete
    For 1, specify the profile when using the tp command e.g. tp connect dr1
    pf='/usr/sap/trans/DR1/bin/TPPARAM'
    For 2 you need to edit the TPPARAM file and insert the correct values e.g.
    DR1/sapevtpath = /usr/sap/$(system)/SYS/exe/run/sapevt or you can add
    it into the command line with the -D option
    At the command prompt enter 'tp connect' and the help file will be
    displayed for that command with the available options

  • Execute a command without thread

    Hi....i have to execute a command in DOS and i'm using runtime java class with its method exec(). The process works perfectly but in my code i have to execute that command without a thread because the successive operations will work only if the command terminated correctly. What can i do to resolve it?

    String cmd = input.getTxtDb2Cmd();
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    int r = p.waitFor();
    if (r != 0)
    throw new RuntimeException("db2 command failed");
    i've to invoke a db2 command that import a txt file in a db table. After this code i've some operations that works with this table so i've to terminate this import before execute other functions.

  • Unable to connect to specified database

    I am using Reports 6i as part of a iAS server.
    From my application I can request a report and have it produced
    and then try running it again and have it return the message
    REP-0501 Unable to connect to specified database. There is no
    pattern to when it works and when it doesn't. It does seem to
    fail more when you change to a different report but it will also
    happen if you try the same report.
    I've checked the tnsnames file and it correctly has the database
    information.
    It is also happening on a second server as well. Both are new
    installs. Both iAS servers are NT connected to a Unix database.
    Connection to the database is done by a name server and
    connections using SQLPLUS have no problem.
    Critical issue to user, any ideas?

    This is a bug and is fixed in 10.1.2.3. Bug#5691620
