Executing dos TYPE command Failure

I am trying to execute the dos TYPE command from within Java. But I would like the output to go to a file, not to the screen. The following program sends the output to the screen, but not to the specified file. Why?
It does actually create the file I want but it is empty.
import java.io.*;
class ExecuteCommand
     public static void main(String[] a) throws IOException
     Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
     Process p = rt.exec("cmd /c start type d:\\java\\billing\\test66.java>d:\\java\\billing\\outputFile.txt");
Many thanks
Akz

Try this:
Process p = rt.exec(new String {} { "cmd","/c","start","type" ,"d:\\java\\billing\\test66.java", ">d:\\java\\billing\\outputFile.txt" } );

  • How to execute dos command in Java program?

    In Perl, it has System(command) to call dos command.
    Does java have this thing?
    or any other way to execute dos command in java program?
    Because i must call javacto compile a file when the user inputed a java file name.

    Look in the Runtime class, it is implemented using the Singleton design pattern so you have to use the static method getRuntime to get its only instance, on that instance you can invoke methods like
    exec(String command) that will execute that command in a dos shell.

  • Execute dos commands through java

    Hi,
    Im trying to execute dos commands through java like
              try {
                   java.lang.Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c cls");
              }catch(IOException e){
                   System.out.println(e.getMessage());
              }Not sure if its possible? however
    open notepad would work
              try {
                   java.lang.Runtime.getRuntime().exec("notepad");
              }catch(IOException e){
                   System.out.println(e.getMessage());
              }Im trying to execute a cls commands to clear screen but without luck.

    The question is, which shell do you want to clear?
    I don't really know, but it could be that Runtime.exec executes its command in a new shell window...

    While there can be many causes for this generic error message, in my case the first parameter or ddwrt:DataBind function inside the SharePoint:FormFields element was
    'i' and I was working with an Edit Form. Changing it to
    'u' as it was with every other FormField fixed the issue.
    <SharePoint:FormField runat="server" id="ff1{$Pos}" ControlMode="Edit" FieldName="Esittaja" __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('u',concat('ff1',$Pos),'Value','ValueChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@Esittaja')}"
    />
    Explanation:
    DataBind operation type parameters (the first parameter) are listed below:
    'i' stands for INSERT,
    'u' stands for UPDATE,
    'd' stands for DELETE.

  • Why do I get error -17500 when calling a batch file using the call executable step type?

    I am calling a batch file using the call executable step type. If the path to the batch file contains a space I get error -17500 and a message stating there was an error in "Post". For example the path to the batch file is "c:\TestWin\Test Files\...\Program.bat" When I run this I get the above mentioned error, however if I change my directory structure so the path is now "c:\TestWin\TestFiles\...\Program.bat" it runs fine. I use the browse feature to find my batch file so it is not me typing in a path incorrectly. I have removed the batch file and I get a different error stating that it couldn't find the file so it appears that for my error it can find the file but can't run it. I am
    sure that this has something to do with the fact that batch files are written in DOS but really don't want to resort to changing my directory structure on all my test stations. Is there any way to fix this problem so I can leave a space in my path?

    It appears I have figured it out. This was on another computer so I was unaware of how they used their computer. I like you got it to work in the temp directory and in fact got the program.bat file to work as long as I put it under the temp directory, but when I switched out to my TestWin directory it wouldn't work, so I removed everything from the directory except the batch file it self and it work. What I found out after adding files in one at a time is that the person had a file called "Test" with no file extension in there "c:\TestWin\" directory. Removing this file made it work. Putting the file back broke it. So it appeares that when teststand was running it followed the path saw a space and attempted to grab the "Test" file instead of bro
    wsing into the "Test Files" directory. If you create a file in your temp directory called "temp" with no file extension you will see the same problem. Thank you for your help.

  • The data source control failed to execute the insert command

    Hi,
      We have installed SharePoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition. We've started using the "Employee Training Scheduling and Materials" template that is available at
    http://www.microsoft.com/government/en-us/campaigns/Pages/SharePoint-Templates.aspx. Till last friday (17th Oct,2013) everything was working fine, but after that we are getting an error "The data source failed to execute the insert command"
    when I click on the "Save" button available on the Registrations.aspx. Could any one help me resolve this issue?
    Kinldy revert if you need more details.
    Though I see many posts regarding this, most of them are associated with Windows Server 2008 R2. So, most of the hot fixes mentioned there could not help me.
    Your help me is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking time to go through this post.
    Thanks and Regards
    Praveen.
    Thanks and Regards Praveen.

    I have the exact same problem. I updated the 2007 Employee training template to the 2010 version and then 2 months ago, presumably when our Sharepoint had the July 10th patch 14.0.7102.5004 applied, it all broke. An attempt to register for a class always
    comes back with "Failure to execute insert command".
    I tried changing the DateSourceMode from "ListItem" to "List"  that gets rid of the error but does NOT update the registrations list.
    Anyone have any success fixing this?

  • Concurrent program with executable of type HOST

    Hi,
    I am having 11.5.10.2 on Red Hat Linux AS 4 . I have created a shell script and I wanted it to run as a concurrent program.For that I created executable of type HOST and created one concurrent program and added it to one request group.
    This works fine. Concurrent program runs successfully.
    Then I used command line parameter in script. This parameter was added in respective concurrent program. But the parameter is passed as $1 as part of the
    the other standard parameters. So I have to extract my parameter from $1.
    My question is how to use parameters in 11.5.10.2 release ?
    Is there any solution so that we don't have to process $1 and extract user parameter? Can we pass the user parameter as $2 , $3 etc. ?

    Hi Hsawwan,
    Yeah I have already seen this document. It is not applicable to 11.5.10.2 because till 11.5.9 the $1 to $8 parameter were passed as standard parameters and user parameter was to be passed on as $9 onwards. This is fine.
    But I have seen that in 11.5.10.2 all the standard parameters are passed in $1 itself concatenated along with the user parameters. So we have to extract user parameter. Is there any better solution. ?
    Thanks .
    Sagar.

  • Java APIs to execute external execute file or command

    I would like to enquire about the 'program statement' to execute an external program or dos command (e.g 'cls' to clear the screen) in a java source program.
    Is there any built-in API s which like 'execute' or something else so as to execute an external command ?

    Look at Runtime.exec()
    However, 'cls' is not a external command in Windows it is and internal command and cannot be run using Runtime.exec()
    If you are expecting to run programs in the same 'command prompt' window, you are going to be disappointed. That window is already running java.exe.
