Executing multiple process instances in a batch

In one of our processes we need to execute multiple process instances together in one go. In order to accomplish this, we have taken a new process which takes a list of instanceStampIds to be processed and then using PAPI processing them one after another in a loop. There is a grab actibity defined, named "GrabAndProcess" to Grab the process instance and then to execute it. We're getting the exception: "Cannot invoke on remote components" while getting process instance using getInstance() in the code below. Here is the code:
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Inside Reconcile Task... " + instanceStampId);
// Pre-Process instanceStampId
instanceStampIdList = instanceStampId.split(delim : "!");
// Define the arguments of the activity.
argumentSet\["reconcilerCommentsArg"\] = reconcilerComments;
argumentSet\["newStatusArg"\] = newStatus;
argumentSet\["reconcilerIdArg"\] = reconcilerId;
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] instanceStampIdList.length: " + instanceStampIdList.length());
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Connecting to ReconcilationProcess... ");
ClientBusinessProcess.connectTo(processId : "/ReconcilationProcess");
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Connected to ReconcilationProcess... ");
foreach (instanceStampIdVal in instanceStampIdList) {
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Inside loop... instanceStampId: " + instanceStampIdVal);
// Pre-process Instance Id
instanceStampIdParts = instanceStampIdVal.split("/");
String baseInstanceStampId = "";
for (int part=0; part < instanceStampIdParts.length - 1; part++) {
if (instanceStampIdParts[part].compareTo("") != 0)
baseInstanceStampId = baseInstanceStampId + "/" + instanceStampIdParts[part];
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] instanceStampId: " + instanceStampIdVal);
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] baseInstanceStampId: " + baseInstanceStampId);
// Grab Instance
try {
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] processInstanceId: " + baseInstanceStampId);
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Getting Process Instance..." + baseInstanceStampId);
instance = ClientBusinessProcess.processService.getInstance(instance : baseInstanceStampId);
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Instance " + baseInstanceStampId + " Retrieved.");
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Grabbing Instance... " + instanceStampIdVal);
instance.grab(grabActivity : "GrabAndProcess");
if (instance.grabbed) {
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Instance " + instanceStampIdVal + " grabbed successfully!");
// Process Instance
instance.runTask(activity : "GrabAndProcess", args : argumentSet);
reconcileResult = reconcileResult + "\nInstance " + instanceStampIdVal + " processed successfully!";
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Instance " + instanceStampIdVal + " processed successfully!");
catch (Java.Lang.Exception e) {
reconcileResult = reconcileResult + "\nInstance " + instanceStampIdVal + " could not be processed!";
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Exception occurred while processing instance " + instanceStampIdVal);
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Exception: " + e.message);
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Done with processing instanceStampId " + instanceStampIdVal);
logMessage("\[MultiReconcile\]\[reconcileTask\] Leaving Reconcile Task... " + instanceStampId);
display (reconcileResult);
Why is it giving the execption "Cannot invoke on remote components"? What's wrong in the above approach?
Any help in resolving the issue will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
MK

Hi,
Could you go into your use case a little bit? I'm confused why you're using PAPI and the automatic grab functionality.
Going under the assumption, you're trying to use it to do ad hoc routing of intstances. If this is the case, here's another approach to using an automatic grab to route instances. The "instF" search would need to be modified to suit your use case:
BusinessProcess bp;
try {
    logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Entry: instance: " + instanceToActOn.instanceIn, severity : DEBUG);
    InstanceFilter instF = InstanceFilter();
    Fuego.Instance[] instances;
    String instanceDescription;
    bp.connectTo(url : Fuego.Server.directoryURL, user : "AUTOCLIENT", password : "P",
                 process : "/" + processName);
    instF.create(processService : bp.processService);
    instF.searchScope = SearchScope(participantScope : ParticipantScope.ALL, statusScope : StatusScope.ONLY_INPROCESS);
    instF.addAttributeTo(variable : VarDefinition.INSTANCE_NUMBER, comparator : Comparison.IS,
                         value : instanceToActOn.instanceIn);
    instances = bp.getInstancesByFilter(filter : instF);
    foreach (inst in instances) {
        logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Found it: " + inst.id, severity : DEBUG);
        try {
            // change this to be the name of your Grab Activity
            inst.grab(grabActivity : "GrabAutomatic");
            logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Grabbed Instance Status: " + inst.grabbed, severity : DEBUG);
            try {
                inst.runTask(activity : "GrabAutomatic");
                logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Ran Grab " + inst.grabbed, severity : DEBUG);
            catch (Exception e) {
                logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: tried to run grab and failed because no task to run in Grab", severity : DEBUG);
            inst.route(activity : groupGrabAndRouteToActivityName);
            logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Routed back", severity : DEBUG);
        catch (Exception e1) {
            logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Exception when running or routing: " + e1.cause, severity : DEBUG);
            errors = errors + "Instance could not be grabbed and reassigned\n\n";
            logMessage("PapiHelper: actionGrabAndRoute: Errors: " + errors, severity : DEBUG);
finally {
    bp.disconnectFrom();

  • Searching Multiple Process instances

    Guys,
    is it possible to search for multiple process instances with a singly search query.
    I need to search for all instances for process TestProcess1 & TestProcess2. Can i avoid calling the connectTo method twice.
    pName = /TestProcess1
    connectTo bp
    using url = Fuego.Server.directoryURL,
    user = user_name,
    password = password,
    process = pName

    Try this logic to hit the ProcessService component if you want to hit multiple processes. Included in this are two different techniques (see "loop 1" and "loop 2") for its use.
    Note the "finally" ("on exit") logic at the bottom to disconnect. Don't forget to do this when using ProcessService.
    do
      connectTo ProcessService
          using url = Fuego.Server.directoryURL,
          user = "test",
          password = "test"
      inboxViewId as String = "unified_inbox"
      inbox as Fuego.Papi.Instance[]
      inbox = getInstancesByView(ProcessService, viewId : inboxViewId)
      // loop #1
      for each instance in inbox do
        logMessage "Here's an instance found in the inbox: " + instance.id
      end
      instF as InstanceFilter
      create(instF, processService : ProcessService)
      addAttributeTo(instF, variable : "customerType", comparator : IS, value : "Gold")

      // loop #2

  • [SOLVED] multiple process instances in htop

    Hi everyone!
    I noticed that htop regularly shows 5 processes of 'polkitd' and 3 of 'upowerd', all with different PIDs. That might be normal, but I also discovered that behaviour with surf. Just a simple 'surf google.com' makes 4 to 6 processes appear with name 'surf google.com' and different PIDs.
    Memorystats, CPUstats and everything are exactly the same, so it should really just be one process.
    Has anybody an explanation for me?
    I am using standard arch kernel, dwm, systemd.
    Last edited by deimos1 (2013-01-12 08:33:44)

    Those are threads of the process, HTOP shows userland threads by default. To get a more structured view press F5, to hide the threads press H (shift+h).
    To make hiding threads permanent, F2 -> Display Option -> (*) hide userland threads

  • Process Chains across multiple BW instances?

    We're considering to implement a "CIF" (corporate information factory) approach for BW, using mutiple BW layers (staging, storage, analysis, across regions).  It seems to make sense from a performance management perspective.
    However one concern is the administration / monitoring.
    Can standard BW tools (e.g. process chains, admin cockpit) customized to be used across multiple BW instances (plus ideally OLTP reporting, which we also have)? Or would we end up having to log in to each system individually?  My gut / understanding tells me it is the latter one, but would appreciate any thoughts.
    Thanks!

    Hi Ingo,
    Thanks for the information. I too have same scenario to work out.
    Is there any possibility of automatic Source/server name conversion from system A to System B while copying all the Universes and Queries.
    For Example: In BI we have an option to datasource server name change convention while transporting from one system to another system through out the landscape.
    As you said in your reply, in life cycle manager, do we need to edit connection for each & every universe or any option for one and all universes.
    Any documentation on this is appreciable...
    Please provide me information.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Single SOA Suite Install with multiple oc4j instances and java processes

    We right now have 5 BPEL processes and 5 ESB processes all running under one java.exe process. We would like to seperate some of
    them out into their own java.exe processes without having to install more
    %ORACLE_HOME% instances of SOA Suite. I can create an oc4j instance but of
    course it doesn't have any SOA Suite stuff deployed to it. I tried to see what
    the install would do with this new oc4j instance but it wants to create a new
    %ORACLE_HOME% with an entire installation of SOA Suite.
    Is there some sort of way to clone oc4j instances that have SOA Suite deployed to them so that you
    don't need multiple %ORACLE_HOME% instances?
    ### How is this Issue Impacting Your Business ###
    We really don't want to have a lot of %ORACLE_HOME% instances to have to maintain. We are
    migrating projects over from our current integration server product and we'll
    have potentially dozens more BPEL and ESB projects. We definitely want to
    group and isolate projects so that outages of one project do not bring down
    others that are unrelated.
    We are currently experiencing periodic problems with one BPEL project that requires recycling but all the other BPEL and ESB
    projects get recycled also. If we could put this project into it's own java
    process without creating another SOA SUITE instance, it would be a big
    help.
    ANSWER
    =======
    You can create multiple domains in BPEL or create multiple systems/groups in ESB to group different projects.
    MY REPLY:
    =========
    We have been using systems/groups in ESB but they all run under the save java.exe process. I would assume that having a seperate domain in BPEL would also run in that same java.exe process.
    Right now, the one BPEL project we have a problem with will gobble up all the JDBC connections from time to time and that requires a recycle of SOA Suite, which means all BPEL and ESB projects that run in that java.exe process get recycled also. We're working that issue in a different ticket.
    It would be nice if the SOA Suite installation would install against a new oc4j instance and not assume it has to create a complete %ORACLE_HOME% instance. The components of SOA Suite seem to be J2EE based components.
    Scenario: I already have an oc4j instance called oc4j_soa and a complete %ORACLE_HOME% installation of soa suite. I then create a new oc4j instance from Enterprise Manager. Then I would deploy the esb-dt, esb-rt, orabpel, etc. components of SOA Suite to that new oc4j instance and modify the necessary config file so that it can work with OHS and the SOA Suite Databases. Is this possible?
    Does anyone have any experience with this or do people typically install multiple complete installation of SOA Suite with mulitple Oracle Homes?

    Hi,
    yes, on metalink you get in touch with real experts....
    You have to install serveral application servers to get different ORACLE_HOMEs.
    For each one, you can install a BPEL PM.
    But: For each BPEL PM you need your own database instance, or you have to configure them as a clustered BPEL installation.... (but i do not know if this work with non RAC DBs)

  • Multiple processes for a host instance on one server

    Hi,
    One of the prod environment server memory utilization is getting very high every few days. I searched a bit and found that there are many processes for "BTSNTSvc64.exe" in the task manager. Whenever we restart the host instance a new process is
    getting created and the previous process is not getting killed.
    This caused multiple processes in task manager and every process is occupying some memory. The process is actually not active but it is creating some bad sectors which is causing the Memory utlization to become high.
    I am not able to kill the zombie processes either from Task manager. Server reboot is the option but wanted to know a permanent fix.
    Can you please tell me the reason as to why this is happening and also the solution?

    How many BizTalk Hosts do you have defined on the system? If you have multiple Hosts defined then you're likely to see one host instance associated with each of the hosts. Each host instance is a service and in the "Task Manager" - Processes you will
    see multiple BTSNTSvc64.exe OR BTSNTSvc.exe * 32. This is OK is you have multiple host instances defined on your system (Services MMC will show you BizTalk Service BizTalk Group : BizTalk Host) and BizTalk Administration Console ->BizTalk Group ->Platform
    Settings -> Host Instances will also show you the different host instances. Each instance is a multi threaded process running different aspects of the BizTalk Framework/Components. So each process will occupy memory if it is "started". All this is normal
    behavior. If you're facing performance issues, you might want to ask the solution designer on their rationale for the number of hosts instances.
    So when you stop the service, it does not stop? goes into a non-responsive state? and creates another instance?
    Regards.

    As I understood there is some time gap between this process creation.also we can see here even after using startWeblogic.sh instances are getting created.
    There are other two domains but in those domains this problem is not seen. only gqts domain has this issue.also in other two domains the same script is used.
    Really not getting what can be the reason behind this process creation.
    Does it mean startWeblogic.sh is creating processes?
    or the application which are deployed on managed servers are responsible for it?

  • SQL Developer cannot execute multiple queries in one connection

    Hi,
    Using : SQL Developer 1.2.29.98, Oracle Database 9i on Windows XP.
    Currently I have TOAD and PL/SQL Developer to handle things related to Oracle Database.
    I found this SQL Developer tools as an interesting tool which might replace PL/SQL Developer (I assume).
    I opened two SQL Worksheets and tried to execute 2 queries (time consuming one) simultanously, suddenly it freezes (the window become grayed). Just like TOAD, we cannot smoothly execute multiple queries on single connection on SQL Developer
    I can monitor the query process using TOAD (Session Browser) and found both queries are running while SQL Developer window become grayed and seems not functioning. After the queries have been finished, I mean both of them, the SQL Developer window become normal and "alive" again showing the expected results.
    Well, however PL/SQL Developer could handle this. Executing multiple queries in single application is just its unbeatable features.
    We can view the query result once its finished instead of until the others being processed, by just only switch the SQL Windows.
    Is it true that SQL Developer doesn't support executing multiple queries?
    Or is it a feature which we should request?
    Or we have to activate this feature by doing some changes on configuration / preferences?
    (Do we need to open two SQL Developer instances? what a memory consuming solution).
    Regards,
    Buntoro

    SQLDeveloper connections are single threaded and also rather single minded (in that you can't do much else while a long query is running.)
    There is an existing feature request http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:39:3685254426061901::NO::P39_ID:4202 for which you can vote.
    The workaround is to have multiple connections. Not brilliant but it works.

  • CcBPM- Error process instance and error work item

    Hi All,
       I i just listing donw my queries about ccBPM.
               1)  What is the difference betwen process instance and work item?
                       I am presuming that, during ccBPM runtime message creates process instance and one process instance can have n number work item. Pleae correct me if i am wrong.
             2) If one process instance is in error status, it means one of the work item is in error. is my undertanding right?
             3) How should i edit/delete work item?
             4) How should i edit/delete process instance?

    1) What is the difference betwen process instance and work item?
    I am presuming that, during ccBPM runtime message creates process instance and one process instance can have n number work item. Pleae correct me if i am wrong.
    BPM comprises of many Steps. (Receive step, Send step, transform etc...) Durng runtime, A BPM is converted into SAP Workflow in the Background and gets executed. Hence all steps are referred to as WorkItems.
    YES. ccBPM runtime creates multiple instances.. one BPM instance for each inpu message
    2) If one process instance is in error status, it means one of the work item is in error. is my undertanding right?
    Each process instance is independent of the other. Sometimes, the workitems blokc the processing if the other. Hence when the workitems block the processing, they should be deleted using SWWL.
    3) How should i edit/delete work item?
    4) How should i edit/delete process instance?
    You cannot delete a process instance. But can delete the work items.

  • Same JVM multiple processes?

    Summary: Does any one know how to get a JVM to be shared across different Windows processes, as follows:
    Context: I have created a Java ActiveX component. This is instantiated and used as an object embedded in HTML. The HTML will always be executed in Internet Explorer. When I have multiple windows open in the same Internet Explorer process with the same HTML code the static variables are shared by all the Java ActiveX components. If I have multiple process of Internet Explorer open each with the same HTML code the static variables are not shared because different instances of the JVM are running in each Internet Explorer process.
    Question: Is it possible to do any of the following:
    - Get multiple instances of the JVM to run as multiple Threads i.e. not as separate processed with separate memory segments?
    - Get multiple instances of the JVM to share variables?
    - Prevent multiple instances of the JVM being created so that all Java objects run in the same JVM regardless of the process that instantiated them.
    This is possible in C++ ActiveX components using shared segments across different Internet Explorer processes, as follows:
    // in DLL .cpp file
    #pragma data_seg (.mydata)
    int sharedVariable = 1;
    #pragma data_seg ( )
    #pragma comment(linker, /SECTION:.mydata, RWS)Therefore I would expect that if I could achieve a similar approach with Java this would not be prevented by the OS (i.e. Windows) due to memory faults, etc. I know that Java has different (less) memory handling capabilites so this may not be possible but any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J

    RMI provides some means of inter-VM communication, but this is probably not suitable for your application. The combination of JNI + NIO also provide some capability for the VM to share memory with native processes, but its not immediately obvious to me how to extend this capability to multiple VM's.

    JAlso, you may want to keep in mind that VM's that run in a browser have a SecurityManager installed that restricts them from performing certain restricted operations. For this reason it may be difficult to do anything really ambitious with an applet or, presumably, a Java ActiveX control, though I have no idea what that is.
    Good luck.

  • Can not view audit trail of BPMN Process instance in Enterprise Manager

    I can not view the audit trail of BPMN Process instance in Enterprise Manager. When I try to click on BPMN process link inside process instance flow trace a NoClassDefFoundError error occurs. How can I fix this?

    Hi Matt
    Till you get exact answer, try indirect approach. I did view page source and could not find the details in the source code. Then I clicked on image to show in new browser and thats when I got this link: You can dig into this imageRenderer.jsp file that can be found in one of the WAR files shown below. Look into EARs also that my have WARs with this jsp. Mostly there should be some sort of Servlet also to display the audit trail. I just checked from bpm/workspace Process Tracking Tab. I did not looked from EM Console tracking tabs though.
    beaHome\Oracle_SOA1\soa\applications\OracleBPMWorkspace.ear has a OracleBPMWorkspace.war file. See if this direction helps
    http://devlinux04:8001/bpm/workspace/jsf/instance/imageRenderer.jsp?imagePath=/tmp/1pLcNmhd77v9XnLCrpNs6dyby3Vzpv4QR1LdPTTf6hpCTp8Fh2KH!-206223496!1302780477267/GraphicalAuditTrail1328100234265306320.png

  • Multiple broker instances on one server

    We are running multiple OpenMQ 4.4u1 broker instances on a single server (two different environments, one development and one staging). It appears as though the RC file I installed in /etc/init.d on our RHEL server is designed to manage one and only one broker instance (using the $IMQ_ETCHOME/imqbrokerd.conf file).
    Is there an elegant way to have the single RC script manage multiple instances, or should I just create a second RC file and a second $IMQ_ETCHOME/imqbrokerd.conf file to manage the second instance?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Yes, the MQ RC script is for 1 broker instance only. On Solaris, it's possible to use SMF to manage multiple processes/services. You may want to look for something similar on RHEL or clone/customize the RC script, imqbrokerd.conf and relevant links in rc?.d for each instance
