    this is code from jdev11.1.1.3 version. I am trying to execute a DDL statement in oracle db from java code, but "ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement" error is coming.
    I am trying to create a table in same schema in same db by using 'Copy' command.
    Same DDL command is executing from sql command prompt & table is being created. Plz help me , as how to do from java?
            public String cmb_action() {
            // Add event code here...
            try {
                //getting source db connection
                InitialContext initialContext = new InitialContext();
                DataSource ds = (DataSource) initialContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/SourceConnDS");

    I have a requirement to transfer data from one db to another db from Java Application Layer.Maybe, maye not. We get all sorts of weird "requirements" - which are nothing but thoughts or proposed solutions.
    But,
    Did the "requirement" mention whether the table existed already or not in the target database? - If not, did it tell you to create it - drop/create it?
    Did the "requirement" deliver some explanation to why this copying was neeeded? - Are we talking replication? - Or a one time cloning?
    Etc, etc,
    Personally I would always argue against a "reuirement" like that. - It just isn't the way to do it. Period.

    Peter
    P.S: If you are satisfied with what COPY does, then you could let Java make an OS call and do it from there?

  • Executing a bash command from Java

    I want to execute a bash command from within a Java application on the server. I know how to do simple commands, but this command is killing me. I get nothing back when I send it.
    p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[]{"ps","-ef","","grep","evolution"});
    There is also another part where I want the results piped to awk and fetch out the pids. BUt with this not working the rest is a waste for now.

    I read the article and I tried the things he/she is proposing, also the error stream, guess what it outputs: nothing.Maybe you did it wrong. If you didn't do it wrong, then that program you're invoking is poorly written, because it dies in error without producing any error messages.
    And I also searched for the exitValue 138, but didn't get much further than that its some system specific value. If you know where I can find more information, I would appreciate if you let me know about it. As jschell pointed out it's probably app specific. You can search the source code and/or documentation of that program to see if they say what 138 means.
    Apart from that -- it seems that environment and run directory issues can trip this up. Try checking that stuff out. Maybe your program expects something on the executable PATH that isn't there. Or maybe you're not running it in the working directory that you think you are.

  • Cannot call the execute command from java code

    Hello,

    Establishing a connection to the OC4J MBean server is no problem. I also can execute the commands 'listAllCommands' and 'help' on the MBean. But if i try to call the execute command, i always get an NoSuchMethodException. Looking at the MBeanInfos 'execute' is listed there as an operation.

    I basically used the code described at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28952/mbeans.htm#CIHFDJBJ to connect to the MBeanServer.
    To invoke 'execute' i used

    con.invoke(new ObjectName(MBEAN_NAME), "execute", new Object[] { COMMAND }, new String[] {});
    where MBEAN_NAME is the ObjectName of the CommandService MBean and COMMAND is a String like "identity add ..."

    you can do that with exec() in Runtime.
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = rt.exec(command here);but before you do that you need to read this:

  • Need to execute SQL PLUS commands from C# code

    Hello all,
    This is my first question here and hopefully I will get my solution :)
    Right now we are doing 3 tasks manually
    1) Clearing everything from a DB.
    We use sql plus and execute this :
    RAMNIVAS_CI/RAMNIVAS_CI@orclwex3
    set pages 0
    set lines 80
    spool c:\delete_objects_CI
    select 'drop '||object_type||' '||object_name||';'
    from user_objects;
    spool off
    start c:\delete_objects_CI.lst
    purge recyclebin;
    set pages 100
    select count(*) from user_objects;
    RAMNIVAS_CI/RAMNIVAS_CI@orclwex3 are the username and pwd which gets input when we paste entire thing in sql plus
    2) Then we restore that DB again using sql plus to do it using the command:
    imp file=CL.DMP log=CL.log buffer=1000000 fromuser=RAMNIVAS_CL touser=RAMNIVAS_CL statistics=none grants=n commit=y
    3)Execute sql scripts on it using sql developer. (This is not hard I guess coz I know we can use oracle client)
    4) Take backup using this command:
    exp RAMNIVAS_CI/RAMNIVAS_CI@ORCLWEX3 file=CI.dmp log=CI.log direct=y compress=y buffer=1000000 grants=n statistics=none
    Is there anything I cna do to execute SQL PLUS commands using c#?

    Hi,
    You can execute OS commands via the SHELL function provided in .NET. See the MSDN for more info.
    Some of the things you can do directly from .NET via ODP and PLSQL, some not.
    1) Dropping the user objects can be done via a plsql procedure where you open a cursor for "select 'drop '||object_type||' '||object_name||';' ..." and then use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to execute the resulting commands. You can invoke the procedure via ODP.
    2) IMP is an exe, not a sqlplus command, so you're not actually using sqlplus there. You can still use the SHELL command though to invoke that.
    3) Executing SQL Scripts via ODP.NET is not something you can do very easily. If you search the threads here you should be able to find some solutions others have come up with to parse the file and execute the statements one by one, but there's nothing built in to ODP to execute a script file.
    You may want to just shell out to sqlplus user/pwd@db @scriptfile.sql but you may have issues trying to track down errors if any occurred, as I'm not sure where they go in that case.
    4) just as with IMP, EXP is an exe, so you could shell out to that.
    Corrections/comments welcome.

  • Executing a .bat file from java code

    Im writing a utility and i need to be able to create and execute a .bat file from my program. I can create the .bat file fine but when i try to execute it nothing happens. I tried to use the following line of code to try to execute the .bat file (called make.bat) :
    try
    String parameterString = "\"C:\\WINNT\\System32\\cmd.exe\" C:\\ITS_Test\\make.bat";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(parameterString);
    catch (Exception e)
    System.out.println(e);
    The Runtime.getRuntime()exec() method worked fine when trying to execute an excel file but for some reason it dosen't want to work for the DOS prompt. Any ideas?

    Thanks everyone for all the replies.
    I have tried all the above with no luck. Im using netbeans, does anyone think that it could be a problem with the IDE.
    I tired the following code :
    String parameterString = "cmd.exe /C \"C:\\ITS_Test\\make.bat\"";
    Process pr = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(parameterString);
    pr.waitFor();
    This code does not throw any exceptions but just hangs. I also tried:
    String [] parameterString = {"cmd", "/c", "C:\\ITS_Test\\make.bat"};
    Process pr = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(parameterString);
    pr.waitFor();
    and:
    String parameterString = "\"C:\\WINNT\\System32\\cmd.exe\" \"C:\\ITS_Test\\make.bat\"";
    Process pr = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(parameterString);
    pr.waitFor();
    with the same result. Does anyone know why it just hangs and nothing happens (no exceptions thrown)?

  • Execute DOS command from Java Code

    Hi All
    I am developing a Java application where I am launching some external Windows application on click event of a button.
    I am able to launch that application, but now I have to keep a check that if once that application is launched on clicking the button, then next time it should not launch. But if user exits that external application, then on clicking the button that application should be launched. I tried several ways but i am not able to keep track of that process which makes that application run. The major problem is that when that application is being launched and running, i don't have anything to read or write to that process's Input Stream or Output Stream. Can any one help me out in this????

    ApratimSharma wrote:
    You Might not get anything in the inputstream.read but when the external application will exit you will definitely get EOF (int -1). However Important thing here is that inputstream.read is a blocking call so better do it in a separate thread.

              try {

  • Can't execute OS-level command from java stored proc

    I've written a couple simple java stored procs, the first of which writes an file and the second attempts a chown on it. I can write the file (which is written as the oracle user) just fine. I need to chown it, but can't. Here's the first proc:
    public static String writefile()
    String fileName = "/joetest/test.xml";
    try {
    File f = new File(fileName);
    FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(f);
    PrintStream p = new PrintStream(out);
    p.println("this is only a test");
    p.close();
    return "create file successful!!!";
    } catch (Exception e) {
    return "Exception occurred writing file:"+e;
    Here's the proc I've been stuggling with:
    public static String chown(String inString)
    String[] command = {"/bin/sh", "-c", "/usr/bin/chown notjoe /joetest/test.xml"};
    if (inString != null) {
    command[2] = inString;
    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
    return "Ownership change success!! "+p;
    } catch (Exception e) {
    return "Ownership change failure?? err="+e;
    The package is created with:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE JOE.THISISATEST AS
    FUNCTION writefile
    return VARCHAR2
    AS
    LANGUAGE java
    NAME 'thisisatest.writefile() return java.lang.String';
    FUNCTION chown(Param1 VARCHAR2)
    return VARCHAR2
    AS
    LANGUAGE java
    NAME 'thisisatest.chown(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
    end;
    And I've granted the following privileges:
    begin
    dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'java.io.FilePermission', '/joetest/test.xml', 'read, write, execute, delete');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'java.io.FilePermission', '/usr/bin/chown', 'execute');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'writeFileDescriptor', '');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'readFileDescriptor', '');
    end;
    Here's the error that I'm getting:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    Coincidentally, this is the same error that I used to get when I wrote the file without having been granted write privileges. Once I granted myself the proper 'write' permissions I could perform file IO just fine. Is there some runtime permission that I need to grant myself to run chown? I'm just guessing, as I can't find any permission like that in the java documentation. I have 'execute' permission on /usr/bin/chown and the oracle user can execute the command I'm attempting from the command line. ARRRRRGH.
    I am at my wits end with this. I've tried what seems like a thousand different syntaxes for the OS command and ran it from many different directories. Anyone have any thoughts at all as to why this is happening? I'm just clutching at straws now...

    Hmmmm. Granting 'execute' on '<<ALL FILES>>' to user JOE fixes this problem:
    begin
    dbms_java.grant_permission('JOE', 'java.io.FilePermission', '<<ALL FILES>>', 'execute');
    end;
    My security folks will not allow this when I port to production, but at least it is something.

  • Problems to execute "cd" DOS command from Java program

    Anyone try to exec command "cd.." or "cd directory", it doesn't have any action. No exceptions, just don't do anything.
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cd\\");
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cd hello");
    However, when I try the following, it is working fine. Any ideas???
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("explorer");
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("javac Test1.java");

    That's because cd is built into the command
    interpreter in Windows. Runtime.getRuntime().exec()
    can only be used to launch external programs. This
    article should get you going:And that's not the only reason why you can't do this.
    When you do
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cd c:\\");
    (or, heck, "cmd /c cd c:\\"): the new command that you spawn will cd to the destination specified, and then exit. The parent process (your java program, that is launching this command) won't go anywhere - the "cd" doesn't affect it.
    The only way to change your OS directory in Java is to invoke native code. And even then, the effects are undefined (in terms of how your CLASSPATH will be affected, etc.).
