Executing tiny programming language compiled byte code with the JVM

Hello,
For a project, I am developing a simple programming language, with a syntax not unlike Pascal, which compiles to Java Byte Code. Currently I execute the compiled byte code using my own interpreter. This works OK, but what I'd like to do now is to execute the compiled byte code using the actual existing JVM. The compiled byte code resides in a text file upon compilation of a sample program written in my tiny programming language. Does anyone know how I may start to go about this? Thanks in advance.
adam

The only way of getting a standard Java virtual machine to execute your java byte code, is to wrap it up into a completely valid java class file.
Any constants you use, must be put into the classes constant pool.
Any local variables will have to go into the local variable table of the method which uses them... etc, etc.
Something like ASM, would let you dynamically create a Java class file.

    See Compiling PL/SQL Units for Native Execution in the PL/SQL Language Doc

    You can usually speed up PL/SQL units by compiling them into native code (processor-dependent system code), which is stored in the SYSTEM tablespace.
    You can natively compile any PL/SQL unit of any type, including those that Oracle Database supplies.
    Natively compiled program units work in all server environments, including shared server configuration (formerly called "multithreaded server") and Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC).
    >
    And this from the section How PL/SQL Native Compilation Works
    >
    How PL/SQL Native Compilation Works
    Without native compilation, the PL/SQL statements in a PL/SQL unit are compiled into an intermediate form, system code, which is stored in the catalog and interpreted at run time.
    With PL/SQL native compilation, the PL/SQL statements in a PL/SQL unit are compiled into native code and stored in the catalog. The native code need not be interpreted at run time, so it runs faster.
    Because native compilation applies only to PL/SQL statements, a PL/SQL unit that uses only SQL statements might not run faster when natively compiled, but it does run at least as fast as the corresponding interpreted code. The compiled code and the interpreted code make the same library calls, so their action is the same.

    If you had Firefox save your Yahoo password, first try deleting that here:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Security > "Saved Passwords"
    The "signed out" message seems to be related to how Yahoo authenticates you. Some users have reported that disabling automatic proxy detection solves the problem, and it also resolves an issue of getting logged out every few minutes, if you have ever experienced that.
    To make the change:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the "Network" mini-tab, click the "Settings" button, then choose "No Proxy" and OK your way back out.
    If your work connection requires you to use a proxy server, try the "Use system settings" option instead.
    Does that help?

    Hello
    In an upgrade, after finishing with the SPAU task we got the following error in the standard object LMEPOF8D:
    A program related ENHANCEMENT-POINT/SECTION with the name "LMEPOF8D_02" already exists.
    Anyone knows which cause could be generate this kind of error?
    Thanks in advance for your help
    Best Regards,

    Hello Sandra,
    We have finished with SPAU. Regarding LMEPOF8D include, we kept with the ECC6 standard code. Therefore, from a point of view of code, it should be ok. However, we have this sintax error.
    As you said, the include contains the enhancement point LMEPOF8D_02 which generates the sintax error, but we couldn't find if this enhancement is used in another place.
    We also found note 1331844 and tried to fix the issue by using the 2nd solution propose in the note. But, it didn't work neither.
    Do you have any idea about what cause could generates this error?
    Thanks in advance for your support.

  • Create Employee code with the mix of alphabets & numeric

    Hai,
    Is there any possibility to create Employee code with the mix of alphabets & numeric instead of the system generated employee code in employee master data? If so,   pls explain.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Parvatha Solai.N

    Hi Solai,
    You can do a work around for it. Just Leave the Employee ID field as it is. Create a new User Defined field (Alpha Numeric Type) And make it visible on the the employee master data form.
    Step2 : Depending upon your need  write the code that is if it should be auto generated write the code for else leave it blank for the user to enter the employee code.
    Step3: In before action = True. Make the newly created field as mandatory and check whether the value in the field is unique.
    Refer Route Class. Hope you understand

  • Using remote JARs with the JVM?

    I was wondering if using remote JAR files with the JVM has any impacts on the performance / stabilities of the Java Virtual Machine?
    The thing that concerns me the most is how the JIT compiler works with remote JARs? What about garbage collection?
    I know one thing for sure if that the application startup is slower since the "client" need the download the needed classes locally in order to load them in the local memory.
    The command line would look like this (under Win2000):
    start javaw -cp .;\\192.168.0.1\some_dir\file1.jar;\\192.168.0.1\some_dir\file2.jar SomeClass
    The big PROS is the application deployment since the JAR files are centralized and not install on the client workstation. The CONS... You tell me!
    Thanks in advance,
    - Nik

    1. Performance.I need more details here. Premilinary benchmark shows that only the application startup is affected by the use of remote JARs. Is there anything else I should look for?
    >
    2. If the network is down so is the application.Point granted. But the application need the database to run anyway. And the DB is residing on the server.
    3. If the server is down so is the application.See my previous comment.
    4. If the server is bounced while a class is loading
    it would be a problem.The server are in a datacenter. They shouldn't be to much bouncing happening =)
    The point I want to make here is that using remote JARs simplify a lot the deployment of the application. Unless there's a big drawback to this setup, I think it's a good way to install 2 or 3 tier application on a close LAN.
    Any other thought(s)?

  • Question about compiled byte code

    Howdy folks,
    I have a client who wants to run an application in both
    on-line and off-line modes. The user could run the application
    locally on their laptop making changes and such which would get
    stored to local database files (probably FoxPro free tables just to
    make it easier on me). Then when the user got back to their
    internet connection they could run the application and it would
    sync with the online tables (probably MySql tables at that point).
    So the question is, if I compile Cold Fusion code into Java
    byte code, will it be able to execute independantly of the Cold
    Fusion Server? I realize that I could load ColdFusion on the user's
    laptop, but I don't think I want to do that. I'm assuming that the
    answer to my question will be "No. You can't do that. Cold Fusion
    isn't meant to work like that." To which my next question would be,
    "Well, what language would be best for the type of application I
    have described above? Action Script, maybe?"
    Any thoughts are welcome, especially if you've written an
    application like the one I've described.
    Thanks very much,
    Chris

    Well, rats.
    I wrote a nice reply to your message BKBK, but lost it
    because, apparently, my session timed out.
    The basic jist, was that I've been working on AJAX, and have
    been implementing some AJAX-like techniques at some other clients
    (using hidden iframes combined with innerHTML -- I know not a
    standard, but darn handy otherwise), but I couldn't see how that
    would solve my on-line/off-line problem (unless I stuck with the
    cookies idea).
    I also did some reading on cookies last night (obviously, I
    don't use cookies very often if at all in my daily coding), and I'm
    a bit put off by the different browser limitations. I'd hate my
    client to be chugging along, entering appointments into the
    "database" (read: data being stored as cookies to be sync'd later
    when the user goes online), and then suddenly run into the cookie
    limitation. On top of that, if I'm reading right, IE (my client's
    most likely choise of browser), will not let you know that you've
    reached this limit, but will just begin dropping the older cookies
    in favor of the newer ones. If I could programmatically sense this
    limitation and then write the cookies to some file before
    continuing that'd be geat, but since JavaScript can't write files
    (that I know of) this isn't feasable. Also, if I could write a file
    like that, I wouldn't bother with the cookies.
    I think I'm going to end up writing it in FoxPro since my
    company has a bunch of copies of it (and it's licenced per
    developer and not per copy), and there are lots of folks in my
    company who can help me get up to speed. That also means that I'll
    probably need to write a web version of the code for when my
    client's client's (does that make sense? :-) ) connect to the app
    via the internet.
    Anyway, I'm really enjoying everyones comments on the
    subject. Can anybody think of a technique for a way around the
    cookie limitations? Or perhaps another language that this whole
    thing could be written in?
    I really wish that I could compile my ColdFusion code for use
    independant of the CF server. I know, that's not the way it works
    and typically not what scripting languages like this are used for.
    I suppose I could always install the developer's version of CF on
    the user's local machine, write the code in CF and then just detect
    whether or not the user is online and behave accordingly.

    "integer_IO" and "Integer_IO" doesn't matter, because Ada is case insensitive.

    If you want, you can post your code and I'll see if I can compile it.
    Are you an Ada beginner? Even though I have been working with Ada for more than a year now, I still don't think I'm very good at it. I wish there was more documentation and more projects used Ada.

    Hi--
    First off, you have to have the developer tools installed. You can download the latest version at Apple's Developer web site:
    http://developer.apple.com/products/online.html
    Or, there will be an appropriate version for your OS located on the DVD or CD that contains your OS installation.
    Since your code has a makefile, you simply need to open the Terminal application and change into the directory with your source code, and type make at the prompt. If you're not familiar with the Unix command line, I'd suggest any one of dozens of tutorials on how to maneuver around your computer in the Terminal. This is only one example:

    I have a Java code with some Japanese characters. My compiler doesn't recognise these characters and gives me error messages.
    Please help me.

    Obviously it's not the copmiler's fault. You need to fix your code.
    Here is a link to the Java Language Specification.
    The link is to section 3.8 - Identifiers.
    It describes the acceptable naming:

    Perhaps your editor is not saving the text file in an appropriate format.
    What editor are you using?

  • Compiled byte code from version a and version b of some external library?

    Hi,
    We are having a bit of debate in our office about compiling code against to different external libraries.
    i reckon the compiled bytecode should be the same, but there are differences of opinion so i thought i would come here and see what people thought.
    lets say i am compiling my code using jar coollib1.0,
    lets also assume i use the jar in all possible ways, extends classes, implement its interfaces, use methods and so on...
    Now cool lib comes out with coollib1.2, and our code compiles using this new jar. Is the actual compiled bytecode the same or not?
    Thanks a Mill,
    Anthony

    yes, but that resolution is done runtime, notcompile
    time.No, resolution of overloaded methods is done at
    compile time. Resolution of overridden
    methods is done at run time.and that's part of the problem.
    You're compile time resolution will now cause a method to be picked up that is the wrong one (or may even be unavailable in the new class version or at another memory address).
    Or you may have a runtime resolution built into the compiled code that when compiled against the new version would change to a compile time resolution (and maybe cause a compiler error because of that).

                                       The issues i'm facing are:
    When it is reading a row from MS-Excel it is writing to the .pdf file from last cell to first cell.( 2 cell in 1 place, 1 cell in 2 place like if the row has two cells with data as : Name of the Intern: Kesavulu Reddy then it is writing to the .pdf file as Kesavulu Reddy Name of Intern)
    and the second issue is:
    It is not recognizing the date format..it is recognizing the date in first row only......
    Plz Tell me wht is the solution for this...

  • Strange issue with POF: byte array with the value 94

    This is a somewhat strange issue we’ve managed to reduce to this test case. We’ve also seen similar issues with chars and shorts as well. It’s only a problem if the byte value inside the byte array is equal to 94! A value of 93, 95, etc, seems to be ok.
    Given the below class, the byte values both in the array and the single byte value are wrong when deserializing. The value inside the byte array isn’t what we put in (get [75] instead of [94]) and the single byte value is null (not 114).
    Pof object code:
    package com.test;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.util.Arrays;
    import com.tangosol.io.pof.PofReader;
    import com.tangosol.io.pof.PofWriter;
    import com.tangosol.io.pof.PortableObject;
    public class PofObject1 implements PortableObject {
         private byte[] byteArray;
         private byte byteValue;
         public void setValues() {
              byteArray = new byte[] {94};
              byteValue = 114;
         @Override
         public void readExternal(PofReader reader) throws IOException {
              Object byteArray = reader.readObjectArray(0, null);
              Object byteValue = reader.readObject(1);
              System.out.println(Arrays.toString((Object[])byteArray));
              System.out.println(byteValue);
              if (byteValue == null) throw new IOException("byteValue is null!");
         @Override
         public void writeExternal(PofWriter writer) throws IOException {
              writer.writeObject(0, byteArray);
              writer.writeObject(1, byteValue);
    Using writer.writeObjectArray(0, byteArray); instead of writer.writeObject(0, byteArray); doesn't help. In this case byteArray would be of type Object[] (as accessed through reflection).
    This is simply put in to a distributed cache and then fetched back. No EPs, listeners or stuff like that involved:
         public static void main(String... args) throws Exception {
              NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache("my-cache");
              PofObject1 o = new PofObject1();
              o.setValues();
              cache.put("key1", o);
              cache.get("key1");
    Only tried it with Coherecne 3.7.1.3.

    Hi,
    POF uses certain byte values as an optimization to represent well known values of certain Object types - e.g. boolean True and False, some very small numbers, null etc... When you do read/write Object instead of using the correct method I suspect POF gets confused over the type and value that the field should be.
    There are a number of cases where POF does not know what the type is - Numbers would be one of these, for example if I stored a long of value 10 on deserialization POF would not know if that was an int, long double etc... so you have to use the correct method to get it back. Collections are another - If you serialize a Set all POF knows is that you have serialized some sort of Collection so unless you are specific when deserializing you will get back a List.
