Executing XPATH on a XML String

Hi,
I have a BPEL variable that contains XML String. Now I want to execute a XPATH to retrive the value of an Element. I tried several ways using getVariableData but the process errors out. Is there any BPEL function to do this? If not what is the alternate way?
Thanks,
Shahul.

Your assumption is right. I have a variable containing XML string. Is it possible that I execute the ParseEscapedXML on the string and execute the XPATH on result of the ParseEscapedXML function.
That is assume the variable name xmlStr, I want to do something like this.
bpws:getVariableData(ora:parseEscapedXML('xmlStr'),'/Transaction-850/Segment-ST/Element-143')

• Parsing XML string with XPath

Hi,-
I am trying to parse an XML string with xpath as follows but I am getting null for getresult.
I am getting java.xml.xpath.xpathexpressionexception at line where
getresult = xpathexpression.evaluate(isource); is executed.
What should I do after
xpathexpression = xPath.compile("a/b");in the below snippet?
Thanks
String xmlstring ="..."; // a valid XML string;
Xpath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newPath();
xpathexpression = xPath.compile("a/b");
// I guess the following line is not correct
InputSource isource = new inputSource(new ByteArrayInputStream(xmlstring.getBytes())); right
getresult = xpathexpression.evaluate(isource);My xml string is like:

<result> valid some more tags here
</result>

<c> 10
</c>
Edited by: geoman on Dec 8, 2008 2:30 PM

I've never used the version of evaluate that takes an InputSource. The difficulty with using it is that it does not save the DOM object. Each expression you evaluate will have to create the DOM object, use it once and then throw it away. I've yet to write a program that only needs one answer from an XML document. Usually, I use XPath to locate somewhere in a document and then read "nearby" content, add new content nearby, delete content, or move content. I'd suggest you may want to parse the XML stream and save the DOM Document.
Second, all of the XPath expressions search from a "context node". I have not had good luck searching from the Document object, so I always get the root element first. I think the expression should work if you use the root as the context node. You will need one of the versions of evaluate that uses an Object as the parameter.

• Is there a way to execute a procedure referenced in an XML string?

The XML string can contain a stand-alone procedure/function or one within a package. The procedure/functions themselves may contain any number of inputs or outputs for procedures. I'm not sure how the procedure that will process this XML string will "know" the datatypes for the IN/OUT parameters for any given stored program. Does Oracle have any built-in mechanism that will execute stored procs in an XML, or would I have to write something that loops through the XML, extracting the proc names, parameters, and parameter values, then query the data dictionary for what type of OUT parameter data type should be used?
I am told that SQL*Server is able to execute procs reference in XML, so I'm assuming Oracle must have some sort of API to use as a gateway for executing a procedure.

• How to get XMP MetaData as an XML String in a process?

Hi there,
I have a process where I would like to export a documents XMP MetaData, manipulate the XMP MetaData and then import the MetaData again to the document.
I thougt first I will use the service Name "XMPUtilityService" with the Service Operation "Export XMP" to export the XMP MetaData as a document.
Hoewer I am not sure how to manipulate the output document from the Export XMP service.
When I print out the document.toString() in a execute Script Service I get the following:

What do I need to do to get the XMPMeta data as an XML String from a document within a process?
Thanks in advance!
Paul

Hi,
thanks for the answer.
I know that I can retrieve the XMPUtilityMetadata object, but this object provides only access to a few information suche as creator, subject, producer, etc.
However I would like to retrieve the whole XML String of the XMP Metadata.
How is this possible?
Thanks.

Thanks

Hi,
It looks like that you must be trying to set the result of the query to some variable from the Execute SQL Task. If yes, make sure that the target variable is of the correct data type where XML string can fit into. Considering that in SSIS, we have
some limit for XML strings.
Please let me know if it doesn't help.
Thanks,

• Converting XML string to internal table

Hello everyone,
I am trying to convert an XML string to an internal table. The format of the XML string is as follows:
<node label="Compressors" NODE_ID="783" checked="1" expandStatus="false">
<node label="Nail guns" NODE_ID="78543" checked="1" expandStatus="false"/>
<node label="Spray guns" NODE_ID="855" checked="0" expandStatus="false"/>
<node label="Cleaning equipment" NODE_ID="9" checked="1" expandStatus="false"/>
</node>
What I need is an internal table with the fields NODE_ID and checked filled. The hierarchy here doesn't matter, so I just need an internal table of a structure with 2 fields. The whole XML is hierarchical and contains only the <node> tag, which can be self-closing or not with the attributes within the tag.
What is the best way to accomplish this?
Performance here is quite important too, as this XML can contain over 100,000 nodes.
Should it be done with an xpath expression, with a regex, with the iXML parser, an XSLT call transformation?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Vincent

Use this FM to get into internal table
CALL FUNCTION 'ECATT_CONV_XSTRING_TO_STRING'
EXPORTING
im_xstring = zl_attcntx
IMPORTING

SPLIT zl_attcont AT cl_abap_char_utilities=>newline INTO TABLE zit_legacy.

• Execute a xquery in XML file ith Size Limit.

Hi there,
I have the following XML file:
<Fuzzy>
<Rule>
<rule_ID>1</rule_ID>
<event>insert</event>
<happen>after</happen>
<condaction>collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book</condaction>
</Rule>
</Fuzzy>
I use the following code to execute the xquery in the TAG <condaction>:
String Query = "collection('test.dbxml')/Fuzzy/Rule/condaction/text()";
XmlQueryExpression ue = myManager.prepare(Query, context);
XmlResults results = ue.execute(context);
while(results.hasNext()) {
System.out.println("==================================");
String test = results.next().asString();
System.out.println(test);
XmlQueryExpression e = myManager.prepare(test, context);
XmlResults results1 = e.execute(context);
while(results1.hasNext()) {
System.out.println("==================================");
System.out.println(results1.next().asString());
The above execute the xquery and provides me the result. But the same code has problems when I use the below Xquery which has a longer Xquery length. Is there any limit on the size of xquery ?
<Fuzzy>
<Rule>
<rule_ID>1</rule_ID>
<event>insert</event>
<happen>af ter</happen>
<condaction>if(collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book/book_ID gt 0 and collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book/price lt 20) then insert nodes <b4>inserted child</b4> after
collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book/title else insert nodes <b4>inserted child</b4> after collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book</condaction>
</Rule>
</Fuzzy>
The problem I identify is that the 'test' variable only prints the part of the xquery present in the tag:
================================
if(collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book/book_ID gt 0 and collection('test.dbxml')/Bookstore/Book/price lt 20) then insert nodes
Please help me to identify if I am wrong or if there are any limitations that is causing this problem.
Thanks.

FYI..
XML has a special set of characters that cannot be used in normal XML strings. These characters are:

& - &

< - <

> - >

" - "

' - '

I replaced the above ones in my XML Tag that has xquery and it worked !!

• Getting a complete portion of an XML String (With tag names)

Im working on an application that processes a huge amount of xml strings. Im using xpath since it makes it much easier to select and navigate through the tags. The only thing I can't do is get a complete portion of an XML string, for example, if i have

<articlebody>
</articlebody>
<references>
<reference id="1"> ... </reference>
<reference id="1"> ... </reference>
<reference id="1"> ... </reference>
</references>

I need to get the complete <reference> portion to parse later, so i need the following string:
<references>
<reference id="1"> ... </reference>
<reference id="1"> ... </reference>
<reference id="1"> ... </reference>
</references>
How can i do this using xpath? is it even possible? if not how else can i do it? (don't want to use regular expressions and string manipulation)
Thanks for you help

Im not sure if this really qualifies as using DOM, but this is all i do to get the data i want from the files (when i only want to get the text value of an element:
InputSource inputSource = new InputSource(new StringReader(metadata));
return xpath.evluate(expression, inputSource, returnType);where metadata is a String containing meta data, and return type is usually string or number.
Im using Java 5 and
Could you please explain a little more how to do this?
Thank you

• Creating XML string to be pushed into a JMS queue

Hello All
I am trying to pass the following XML string into a sender obj, however, I am not sure how it is supposed to be done, with the right escape sequencing.
message.setText("<rawData><Name="Mike">
<Value="200"></rawData>");
Please guide me.
Thanks,
AJ

Login User should have the Admin privilege, Otherwise it is not possible to post data manually into the JMS Queue.
Log into weblogic Console > click on JMS Module > <select the JMSModule where the Queue resides : e.g SOAJMSModule> >Select the Queue > Monitoring > Check the Box > click on "Show Message" > New > Post the data in "Body" section.
Or, you can create another BS in OSB, pointing to that JMS Queue(using Input.xsd) . then execute the BS using your Input.xml

But this doesn't seem to work..
Any idea?

• Xml string passed as parameter to xsql

I am trying to pass xml string as parameter to xsql.But having problems with the < and > .I tried to escape
those chars but but i am not getting desired output.Could you please suggest how to pass the xml string .
<xsql:include-xsql href="order.xsql?neworder='{@neworder}'
i trying to pass neworder parameter as xml string which contains data to update 2-3 table .

u can't post a parameter valued by a xml string,because of the xml string must be
has xml element with attributes. as follows:
<row num="1">
the "=" will make the web container got error
when parsing http request parameters's name and value pair.
solution:
1. use "post" method submit your parameter
2. use microsoft xml http compoment post your param as a parameter
of it's "send" method, and set the request contentType header "text/xml"
in xsql file:
<xsql:set-page-param name="param1" xpath="/parameters/neworder"/>

• Converting SQL Server text field containing XML string to XI XML via JDBC

Hello
My client has a SQL Server database containing a field of type Text which contains an XML string e.g.
<DispatchJob> <DispatchDateTime>2003-09-29T13:29:15</DispatchDateTime> <AssignedFSE>F118</AssignedFSE> <DispatchJobPurchase> <DealerID>14C5</DealerID> <DateOfPurchase>1997-10-01T00:00:00</DateOfPurchase> </DispatchJob>
I am using JDBC to access this but could someone please recommend the best and easiest solution for converting this string to XI XML for subsequent mapping to BAPI or IDOC or ABAP Proxy and transmission to SAP. There are other fields as well in the database table so thoughts at the moment are to use a normal graphical message mapping followed by an XSL mapping. Will an XSL mapping be able to do this and if so is that the best solution?
Also I need to do the reverse of this and take fields coming from SAP via BAPI,IDOC etc. and convert them to a single database table field as an XML string also via the JDBC adapter. What is the best way to do this. Could it be done simply with functions in the graphical mapping e.g. concatenate?
Thank you in advance.
Trevor

Hi Michal
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I was anticipating XSLT for reading from the SQL Server database and converting the XML string.
But how would you convert the individual fields from SAP into a single field as an XML string for storing in the SQL Server database? What approach would you use?
Regards
Trevor

• Performance problem submitting big XML string parameter to the web service

We deployed a web service on the OC4J via oracle.j2ee.ws.StatelessJavaRpcWebService . This web service takes one string as a parameter. The string contains XML. Evrything works great UNLESS input XML string reaches 5Mb in size. When it happens OC4J does something with it for about 10 minutes (yes, minutes) before it calls the web service method. At this time java.exe consumes 100% of CPU.
WE tried to increase JVM heap size, stack size, etc, - no effect.
Please, help!
Thank you in advance,
Vlad.

Hi Sheldon,
What i feel is that it's not been handled in your webservice if the parameter is null or "" <blank> space
i just you to take care in webservice that if the parameter is null or "" pass the parameter null to the stored proc
