Exp and import

Hi,
I have two databases
1. 10g on RHEL 4 (64 bit)
2. 9i on RHEL (32 bit)
I have a requirement to export from 10g and import it in 9i. Is that possible?

Table 19-7 Using Different Releases of Export and Import
Export from->Import to Use Export Release Use Import Release
9.0.2 -> 10.1.0 9.0.2 10.1.0
10.1.0 -> 9.0.2 9.0.2 9.0.2 [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/exp_imp.htm#i1013164]
Use 9i exp release to export from 10g and import into 9i database.

    Why do you have such a requirement?
    Are you worried about import failures if the object already exists on the database?

  • Advantage of datapump export and import over original export and import

    Hi,
    let me know the Advantage of datapump export(expdm) and import(impdm) over original export(exp) and import(imp).

    Hello,
    let me know the Advantage of datapump export(expdm) and import(impdm) over original export(exp) and import(imp). There're many advantages on using DATAPUMP.
    For instance, with INCLUDE / EXCLUDE parameters you can filter exactly which Object and / or Object Type you intend to Export or Import. Which is not easy with the Original Export / Import (except for Tables, Index, constraints,...).
    You can Import straightly from a NETWORK_LINK without using a Dump.
    You have many interesting features as COMPRESSION, FLASHBACK_SCN / _TIME*,... .
    You can use PL/SQL API to perform your Export / Import rather than using the Command Line Interface.
    More over, the DATAPUMP is much more optimized than the Original Export/Import and use Direct Path or External Tables, ... and what to say about the REMAP_% parameters which let you rename Datafiles, Schema, Tablespaces, ...
    There would be many things to tell about DATAPUMP. You'll find an overview of this very good tool on the following links:

    hi,

    I created new user on my new server from enterprise manager.
    Exported user from the old server and imported in the new server.
    i.e: from Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0, I did
    c:\>exp system/manager file=abc.dmp owner=abc
    Then on the new server Release 9.2.0.1.0, I did
    c:\>imp system/manager file=abc.dmp fromuser=abc touser=abc
    I'm using Arabic Language on my both servers. NLS_LANG parameter on both the servers is AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252.
    On both the servers I'm able to insert and select data in arabic.
    However, after I export the data from old server to the new server, the arabic data comes in question marks.
    If I create new table and insert arabic data on new server's user abc it is displaying well. Only the data which I exported and imported is not showing arabic.
    On both old and new servers operating system is Windows XP.
    I'm stuck with this problem. Anybody having any idea about how to solve this problem please help.
    Thank you all in advance.
    Regards

    Let me be clear here. Storing Arabic data in a WE8MSWIN1252 database is not supported by Oracle and will lead to problems. You are incorrectly using the NLS_LANG to prevent proper conversion and your data appears to be okay when you use utilties like SQL*PLUS to view your data. When you write applications that don't rely on the NLS_LANG like JDBC thin driver for instance you will realize your data is in fact invalid. To learn more about the NLS_LANG you can take a look at this FAQ: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/globalization/htdocs/nls_lang%20faq.htm
    To migrate your database to a proper character set you can refer to this paper:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/globalization/pdf/mwp.pdf
    But please do not ask for help in supporting your current configuration in this forum.

  • How to export and import dependent tables from 2 different schema

    I have a setup where schema1 has table 1 and schema 2 has table2. And table 1 from schema1 depends upon table 2 from schema 2.
    I would like to export and import these tables only and not any other tables from these 2 schemas with all information like grants,constraints.
    Also will there be same method for Oracle 10g R1,R2 and Oracle 11G.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/server.101/b10825/dp_export.htm#i1007514
    Looking at this For table mode it says
    Also, as in schema exports, cross-schema references are not exported
    Not sure what this means.
    As I am interested in only 2 tables I think I need to use table mode. But if I try to run export with both tables names, it says table mode support only one schema at a time. Not sure then How would the constraints would get exported in that case.

  • Export and Import using Named Pipes

    Hai,
    I need an clarification in export, import and compress of dumps using named pipes.I am using Oracle 9i RAC 9.2.0.4 in AIX 5.3. Every month i have to move list of tables from one database to another database after taking export dumps. The list of activities done by me at present are given below.
    1. Taking export and gziping the dump file at the same time using named pipes.
    2. Doing uncompress and import in the second database using named pipes.
    We are doing compress for space constraints. Now my doubt is whether using named pipes, we can do both operation of import and compress of dump file at the same time. i.e, at the time of export itself , using named pipes, i need both import in the another database and compress the zip file. Is it possible?

  • Steps to export and import oracle 10g databse from AIX to AIX and LINUX

    Hi,
    I need the steps to export the oracle 10g database from AIX server to AIX server and LINUX server.
    Please give me all the steps as this is my first exort an import activity.
    thanks,

    For 10g there exist two ways to do so.
    1) Regular exp/imp.
    2) Data pump expdp/impdp.
    As this is your first export and import activity, relevant concept understanding is mandatory for you.
    Documentation Link
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/toc.htm
    Read the chapters 1,2,3 (Data pump expdp/impdp) and 19 (regular exp/imp). Good luck.

  • Export and import of data not table and data ????

    plz i have a a quetion about Export and import of data in oracle forms
    i have created 02 boutons one for export his trigger like this :
    eclare
    alrt number;
    v_directory varchar2(200) := 'c:\backup'; --- that if the C Drive not the Drive that the windows had installed in it.
    path varchar2(100):='back_up'

    v_exp varchar2(200) := 'exp hamada/hamada2013@orcl file = '

    ||path
    ||'.dmp';
    begin
    host(v_exp);
    alrt:=show_alert('MSG');
    end;
    and the bouton import is like this
    declare
    alrt number ;
    v_ixp varchar2(200) := 'imp userid=hamada/hamada2013@orcl file =c:\backup2\back.dmp full=yes';

    i have just one table "phone"
    this code is correct he expot not only the data but also the creation of the table ....for exemple i do export and evry thing is good until now and i find the .dmp in the folder backup .. but when i deleted all data from my app and try to import this .dmp iit show me error it tell me thet the table phone is already created ....
    so plz help wanna just export the data of phone not the creation of table and data ???? or how can i import just the data from this .dmp ??

    Pl post OS and database versions.
    You will likely need to use the IGNORE flag - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e22490/original_import.htm#sthref2201
    Imp utility (by default) will try and create the table first. Since the table already exists, imp reports an error. Use the IGNORE flag in your imp command to not report such errors.

  • Calling Oracle Export and Import in java

    Hi,
    I am trying to call oracle export and import utilites in my java application,
    can anyone help me that how can i do this, plz consider the case as this is a part of my project..
    Regards

    You should just be able to call the "imp" and "exp" executables ($ORACLE_HOME/bin) using the Runtime class. You can setup the various parameters for export / import in a parameter file.

  • Export and Import Of Tables having BLOB and Raw datatype

    Hi Gurus,
    I had to export one schema in one database and import to another schema in another database.
    However my current database contains raw and blob datatype.I have exported the whole database by the following commnad
    exp SYSTEM/manager FULL=y FILE=jbrms_full_19APR2013.dmp log=jbrms_full_19APR2013.log GRANTS=y ROWS=y
    My question is if all the tables with raw and blob have been exported properly or not.I have done one more thing after taking the export , I have imported to local db and checked the no of rows in the both the envs are same.As I have not tested with the application to confirm.
    I am using this version of Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production

    You could see the 'QUESTIONABLE STATISTICS' warning for a couple of reasons. I don't remember them all but.
    1. If the target and source character set is different.
    2. system generated names (I think?)
    the best solution if you don't need the exact statistics that are on your source database would be to add
    statistics=none
    to your imp command and then regather statistics when the imp command is done.

  • Export and import of 3 Gb table

    Dear ,
    I have table with more than 3 million records, i need to export this table and import into a different database . can you please help me with the export and import options options so that i can speed up the process...
    for you information
    this table hase 3 Fk, 2 Indexs
    i would appreciate your help in this regard
    thanks

    One way to speed up the exp/imp process is to use DIRECT=Y option. Also increase the size of BUFFER parameter.
    While importing large amount of data it is better to drop relational constraints and indexes and recreate them after import.

  • Export and import from lower db version to upper version

    Hi
    I want to export the schema from database version 9.2.0.5.0 and import in to database version 9.2.0.8.0
    What parameters I have to consider ?

    Hi,
    No consideration required during exp/imp between same version such as 9i here.
    Their are different consideration in different versions as ..
    e.g.
    In order to export your 11g database and import it back to 9i, you will have to use the exp (export utility) and imp (import utility).
    Since you are going from a higher version back to a lower version, this is what you need to do
    1. Use the exp utility of the lower version (in your case, 9i) to export the 11g database
    2. Use the lower version imp utility (in your case, 9i) to import into the 9i database
    Imp/Exp utility version should always be similar to lower db version
