Export an InDesign file to PDF and InDesign freezes and quits

I keep trying to export an InDesign file to PDF and InDesign keeps freezing up and quitting. This is the first time it's done this, I have never had a problem before.I recently added Suitcase Fusion to my computer and wondered if this was the cause, or if there is something else wrong.

Try disabling the suitcase plugin and see if it continues (you'd probably have other problems, too, though, if it's the culprit). Often it's a bit of bad text or an image. See Adobe Community: File Crashing on Output - printing/PDF/other for lots of troubleshooting tips.

I am in the middle of a job using CS 6, but at the same time opening the Creative Suite apps.  I created an InDesign file in CS 6, saved it, and now I can't open it. I'm getting this message: Cannot open file because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.1). You must use that version or later to open the file." AARRGGHH! So how do I access the file?

Sounds like you opened and saved it in CC, so now you need to go back to CC and either complete the project there, or export to IDML to take it back into CS6.

  • InDesign CS5.5 PDFs cause Indesign 2.0 on OS9 to quite when importing

InDesign CS5.5 PDFs cause Indesign 2.0 on OS9 to quite when importing. Is there a fix for this?
I'm trying to trouble shoot a client issue and telling them to upgrade is not an option.

Try the press quality setting. It should work.
And suggesting that they upgrade is certainly option you should present them with. If they don’t want to, that’s another issue all together.

  • Keyboard and trackpad freeze and unresponsive

keyboard and trackpad freeze and unresponsive happen occasionally.
This is not a rare case. Please do not want to circumvent nor dodge the problem and issue. Don't pretend that this prolem is minor and not important.
When there is something wrong, please admit that there is something wrong and appologize!!
Be responsible for those people who pay $1,800 dollars, which they earn for working day and night and till late night everyday!!

This Apple article may help you with this issue.
Other users have reported that leaving any USB device connected to the MacBook Pro prevents the issue from occurring. A workaround for the moment, but not too onerous.
    Best of luck.

  • Exporting InDesign files to PDF containing Chinese characters

When I export a file from Adobe InDesign to PDF that contains Chinese characters, some of the Chineset text in the resultant PDF appears heavy and blotchy, like it has had a very heavy stroke applied to it, even though the text is perfectly OK in the source InDesign file and when printed out from the PDF.
As a lot of Chinese reader will view and read this document online, I need to find a solution, can anyone help me?

Below is a screenshot of one of the effected pages
As you can see, some of the Chinese characters appear all heavy and blotch, whilst others are OK.
There is no leading on any of the text and it is perfectly OK when viewed in the Adobe InDesign file.

  • When I export InDesign file to pdf, my graphics are negatives.

I'm using Adobe CS4 and I've got greyscale photoshop elements in the layout.  When I export to pdf, for some reason, those psd's become negatives of what they are in my InDesign file.  I've gone through my file to see what setting is off on the images & in the Export settings and I just can't pinpoint the problem.  HELP!!

Sorry. I just remembered that that was not accurate.
I believe it was jpegs exported from CorelDRAW that were negative when viewed on Mac...

  • Export InDesign file to pdf problem

I layout a weekly publication which contains photos. The positions are set, so each week I just drop a new photo into the set positions. Hundreds of these work every week, but once in awhile I get one that replaces the old photo in InDesign, but when I export it out to a pdf, it reverts to the previous photo, which obviously causes a little issue.
Any ideas on why this happens and what to do differently? Thanks,

I use Acrobat Professional for this along with InDesign. I believe it's the only way to do this.Export your document as a PDF. In the export dialog box check, "Create Acrobat Layers" under options. You need to set the compatibility of your PDF as "Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)" or higher in the upper right-hand corner.  Open the PDF in Acrobat. On the left you'll want to click on the layers icon. Opening up the layers you'll see the names of the layers exported from your InDesign file. Right clicking or control clicking on a Mac will open up the properties dialog box. The layer properties dialog box will allow you to set a number of states for the layers in PDF. You can even designate a layer to never show but always print. And, set the layer that shows to never print. Once you you set the properties for each layer save the document and you're done

  • How to create a smallest file size pdf from indesign CS4 document

How to create a smallest file size pdf (suitable for upload to a website) from indesign CS4 document which contains multiple illustrator CS4 illustrations.
I have chosen the "smallest file size option" but the pdf file is over 30MB, can anyone help please.
    Thank you

    One trick is to
Set the placed graphics to have a transparency of 99.9% (you can do this with Find/Change and select Objects)
This is enough to force the graphics throught the Transparency Flattener
Next set the Transparency Blend Space to RGB (Edit>Transparency Blend Space)
Next set a custom Transparency Flattner Preset Edit>Transparency Flattner
    Next
    Use File>Export and choose
    Smallest file size
PDF Compatibility Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
In Advanced Section - go to transparency and selec the new Flattener Preset you created.
*this will convert your vectors to raster, but it should reduce your file size

  • When I convert InDesign file to pdf, the background of my image is no longer transparent

I am working with InDesign CS3, and when I place a .gif file onto the document, the background of the image is transparent, which is what I want. However, when I convert the InDesign file to a pdf, that same image shows up in a white box. Why is this happening? Is there a setting that I am missing when I convert it? Thanks in advance

I am converting it via export, and actually it is an ai file, my apologies.
The white box does not appear in InDesign print preview.
I corrected the link, but still no luck.
I am opening the document in Adobe reader, and overprint preview is turned on.
Keep the suggestions coming please! I really appreciate it.

  • Batch Convert InDesign Files to PDF: Acrobat 9 Pro Opens CS3

A question came up in the InDesign forum about batch converting InDesign files. I've never really needed to do it but I was aware of the batch convert command. The OP reported errors so I tried it myself and while it worked, for some reason Acrobat 9 Pro is opening InDesign CS3 even though I have CS4 and CS5 installed.
I can't seem to find any way to change the default for INDD files. I tried launching ID CS5 first, but Acrobat still launched ID CS3. If I double click an INDD file in Windows Explorer, it opens in CS5 so the operating system has the default correct.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks,
I just found that out, too.
What I'd like to find out is how to fix this.

  • InDesign: Creating interactive PDFs with Page Turn and Flash animations | CSInsider | Design | Adobe TV

This episode gives an answer to a question Rufus hears very frequently: "Can I have page turns and animations created in Adobe InDesign in a PDF?" - The answer is yes. Find out how.
    http://adobe.ly/wmHCbl

Not an expert, but would think you still get 508 compliance by the normal PDF reader controls  -- the page curls are visual extras only.
I understand these 'techniques' perfectly -- but they sure seem awkward.
    - why doesn't InDesign properly emit the combination page turner PDF in one step?
    - why doesnt InDesign show the actual background of the embedded Flash animation as it will be, and why doesn't it allow you to set background transparency right there in InDesign, again showing you what the result will be?
I hope this is done in such a straightforward and clear way, in InDesign CS6.

  • How do I maintain bookmarks in multiple documents when exporting a book file to PDF?

I am using a book file to organize 10 individual indesign documents. Each document has its own set of bookmarks and links, and their are links that go to other documents within the book as well. How do I (using CS3) print my book file to PDF while maintaining all the interactive components? I want my complete list of bookmarks to appear within the bookmark pane, and I want all of the interactive links in the document to work when they are clicked in the PDF. Doing this for one document is simple, set the preferences to enable the bookmarks and links. However, none of these PDF export settings seem to work when printing the entire book.
    Help!

I had it open, just wasn't looking in the right spot. Found it... thanks a bundle. This has made my day... as long as the bookmarks work when I export.
    Thanks!
