Export Captivate Project to Training Force

Our LMS is Training Force. Apparently, as copied below, when
I publish a Captivate project in a SCORM compliant format, I'm
getting an error caused by a "page in the package." I'd appreciate
any thoughts or suggestions on how to move forward.
Thanks! Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Coleman
It is a page in the package causing the error. So we
recommend manually fixing the page and/or notifying the course
creation software provider of the issue.
The issue is this section of code on
EscrowPrdctVbls_custom.htm.
document.write('<script language=\"VBScript\"\>\n');
document.write('On Error Resume Next\n');
document.write('Sub Captivate_FSCommand(ByVal command, ByVal
args)\n');
document.write('Call Captivate_DoFSCommand(command,
args)\n');
document.write('End Sub\n');
document.write('</script\>\n');
The problem arises when the browser reads the page to
determine what needs to be processed. Since the script tags are
contained in other script tags, the rendering of the page throws an
error. To alleviate the issue, the script tags need to be broken up
more or potentially encoded.
An example for breaking it up would be:
document.write('<scri");
document.write("pt language=\"VBScript\"\>\n');
document.write('On Error Resume Next\n');
document.write('Sub Captivate_FSCommand(ByVal command, ByVal
args)\n');
document.write('Call Captivate_DoFSCommand(command,
args)\n');
document.write('End Sub\n');
document.write('</scri")
document.write("pt\>\n');

Follow-up....
Are there any "tricks" to exporting to a SCORM format?
Something like no spaces, or this field needs to remain blank? This
LMS accepts content published from Flash, but not Captivate, at
least how I'm publishing it.
Thanks.

  • When exporting Captivate 5 project as pdf, cannot open linked files (which are also pdfs)

    I am a Captivate novice, using version 5 on Mac. I am thrilled that my project can be published as a pdf. Everything works great except the interactive buttons, which are supposed to open various small pdfs. I placed the linked documents in the same folder with captivate project. I used just the filename of the document as the link. I can open the links with no problem when I open the SWF from firefox, but when I try to open them from my exported PDF (with Acrobat 9 pro), no luck. This is really bumming me out, because being able to hand the customer an interactive PDF is cool. I could just duplicate the same effect in Acrobat Pro Extended, but I find the Captivate workspace much faster and easier than creating interactivity with Acrobat. Plus, it is so cool to add the audio and animated effects in Captivate. Not so easy in Acrobat. Help??!?! Thank you.

    Thanks for the update! No pressure, but I'm using the trial version while I decide if Captivate will be the solution I need to create these multimedia pdfs. Is there any sort of timeframe on the resolution of the issue I posted? Should I expect to wait until Captivate 6, or should I expect an update to 5 to solve the problem? Just need to know how to move forward. I apologize in advance if I am out of line for asking timeframe questions. I'm new to support forums. I  never posted before because I was always able to get answers by researching discussions. Your reply is so helpful to me because I can barely afford the $800 for Cap 5. If it can't do what I need it to do, I will save the money and stick with creating interactivity in PDFs through Acrobat's brute force (but reliable) methods...but Captivate is SO COOL...oh woe.

  • Track completion of embedded swf within captivate project

    I have a swf created within captivate 4 which is a traiining simulation.  Now I want to embed this simulation on a screen within a new host captivate project and enable the next progress button only when the embedded training simulation is done. What is a good way to do this?
    While trying different options, a problem I am running into is the embedded training simulation does not close when all the interactivity is done even if the swf publish options are set to close upon completion.  It wants to run for a set time. Any ideas are much appreciated.

    Hi Gaspar,
    Are you using a preloader for the project? If so, the default
    one in Captivate waits for 60% of the project to load before
    playing. Perhaps try to add the preloader if you aren't using one,
    or remove it if you are to see if that makes a difference. In
    Captivate 3, you can change this option in Preferences -->
    Project --> Start and End --> Loading Screen.
    Good luck,
    David
    Edit: I just tried this too and got the same results when
    publishing with all versions of Flash - I was a little surprised to
    see it even with Flash 7 exports, because Captivate has let me
    embed .swf animations into a single .swf project file using Flash
    7. I'm guessing that whatever Flash "engine" Captivate uses to
    create its own FMV .swfs must be Flash 8 or 9. That would be
    something that would be nice to adjust - especially because of the
    lack of the ability to merge .swf files into one file. I guess I'll
    send a feature request again...

  • Issues adding swfs created in Flex to a Captivate project

    The company I work with, ePath Learning Inc. has an online authoring tool called eActivity that we use to publish different eLearning templates. This online tool is built completely in Flex and uses the Flex compiler to ouput a swf file that can be used in many different products and online courses. Because it's an AS3/Flex created swf, we've had to wait for Captivate 4 to be released to support the generated swf file, so now we are testing it's compatibility and have run into some issues. It appears that swf files from our online authoring tool do not work correctly in Captivate. Further testing resulted in any swf published using Flex do not work properly in Captivate. Attempts at adding a swf file complied with Flex result in a variety of different errors as well as a performance issue causing the control bar as well as all other aspects of the Captivate project to work incorrectly.
    I've attached 2 sample swf files, 1 built using our online authoring tool and 1 using Flex Builder 3. When added to a new blank project in Captivate 4 using AS3 settings we have the errors as explained above.

    Hi there
    I just uploaded a small video to Jing. See if it helps you resolve the issue.

  • What is the largest "manageable" size for a captivate project? (I think I've passed it)

    Problem:
    It used to take perhaps 5 minutes for the Captivate software to open and the project to actually load. Now, Captivate loads (menu screen) but the project does not open - it just sits there. When I close the software it asks if I want to save changes to my project, as if it had opened.
    Background:
    The captivate project that is roughly 260MB. This is after having copied and pasted all the slides to a new project to reduce the file size (several times) -- because of unexplainable ballooning of the file size. I am using a computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.35 GHZ processor with 4GB or RAM.
    Questions:
    What is the largest manageable file size for a project?
    Is there a limit to the number of slides a project can contain (i.e., 200)?
    What can I do to get my project to actually open?
    Thanks!
    Dan

    Hi there
    Normally we advise that a Captivate project should fall into somewhere between 50-65 slides as a general upper limit. Occasionally reaching as high as 100 to *MAYBE* 120 slides. Depending on a number of factors.

  • Can A YouTube Video Link/Code Be Added In A Captivate Project?

    Hello,
    Can I add a video embed code or link to a Captivate project (rather than the actual video file itself) when making an swf project? How do I do it?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Hi Paul
    I think we need a wee bit more information here.
    If you are using Captivate 4, I believe there is a widget that may be used to embed a YouTube video in a Captivate project. That appears to be the first thing you asked.
    But the way you phrased the question, you could have also been asking about a way to create a link to a Captivate Project file (the CP file).
    Can you describe exactly what it is you want to see in the end result? Just be basic. I want to click a button, see a slide that does this. And describe what this is.

  • How to playback an embedded swf in a Captivate project

    Hello,
    I generated a swf file from one captivate project and am embedding it into another.  When I play back the slide that has the imported animation the playback from the slide and the imported swf are different.  If I pause the main slide playback the swf continues and vice versa.  How do I get the playback of the imported swf file to be controlled by the main playback controls?  I am using Cpativate 4.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi there
    I'm hoping one of the Captivate team members picks up on this one and either confirms or denys my findings.
    It is my understanding that one cannot control the other. Likely you may want to simply insert a Click Box or Button on the slide with the SWF and allow the user to move on when they are ready after having interacted with the SWF.
    You may wish to experiment with the properties of the embedded SWF. There is an option called "Synchronize with project". But I'm doubtful it will work to accomplish what you want. I think what this option does is to ensure that if the timing of the slide is different than the SWF inside, it will play the SWF in its entirety.

  • Once i publish a captivate projects, where can i host

    I see that I can publish to HTML5, is there a hosting platform for captivate projects?

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
    You can use a learning management system (LMS) to distribute a computer-based tutorial created using Adobe Captivate over the Internet. A learning management system is used to provide, track, and manage web-based training.The project that you upload to the LMS must be compliant with the SCORM, AICC standards, or Tin Can API.If you do not want to use a Learning Management System (LMS) for tracking the quiz scores, Adobe Captivate provides you with alternate reporting options.You can now choose an internal web server as your reporting servers.

  • How to pass arguments into a Captivate project

    Hello,
       We use dotNetNuke (DNN) as our Content Management System. We are using tokens in DNN to personalize the screens. We have access to the uses first name and email. I would like to pass this information into a Captivate project. I have seen references in my research to using Javascript to invoke the Captivate project, but I have not found any samples of the source code, nor examples of how to use the passed values in the Captivate presentation.  Can someone validate that this functionality exists for Captivate 8 and perhaps point me to a few examples?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Sorry. I think I was a bit too vague in my answer.
    And I don't know about how you are getting your token value, but that part is up to you.
    Just make sure to put it in place of where I wrote "whateveryourtokenvalueiscalled".
    1.
    create a variable in cp to hold your value. (e.g. holdName)
    2.
    Add this inside the <head></head> tags of your page (after you export it):
    <script>
         function = getMyValues () {
              if(window.cpAPIInterface)
                   //assign your token value to the cp variable you created in the project
                   window.cpAPIInterface.setVariableValue("holdName",whateveryourtokenvalueiscalled);
    </script>
    3.
    Back in your cp project, call to the function at some point.
    For example, on page 2, add to the page's action
    On Enter:
         Execute Javascript
    Then in the script window, type this to start up the function:
    getMyValues();
    I hope that makes sense.  I'm not really great at explaining scripting unfortunately.

  • Embedding captivate projects

    Hi,
    I am attempting to embed one captivate project within another. The reason that I want to do this is so that I am able to reuse one smaller project in a number of other larger projects. I am using variables and I want all available in all projects. I have attempted to just cut and past the screens from one project to another but this does not cut and paste the variable in the smaller project.
    Is there anyway of achieveing this, and what is the most efficient way to do so.
    I am using captivate 4
    thanks

    Hi Peter
    You should hop over to CPGuru.com and grab yourself a copy of Michael's loader widget. It will be well worth your time and money.

    I have links to websites in my Captivate videos which work
    fine when the projects are posted on a web page. However, when I
    export the projects to a CD, these links no longer work. I'm sure

  • Exporting a project into an external HD as a file

    I do not use the vault in Aperture mainly because I could never get back into it to retrieve my pictures. (Apple has made this way to difficult) I would like to use an external harddrive and just export my projects monthly into a folder. I have tried doing this from Aperture. It exports the Apeture application into the folder (you click on it and it opens Aperture). How do I export just the pictures into the folder?
    Thanks for your help

    1. it is actually really easy to dig into a vault - right(option) click show package contents ... but you will only get the masters - not edited versions ... since it is non-destructive ...
    2. when exporting a project you actually export a package - right(option) click show package contents ... you double click a project, it is set to open with aperture - simple ...
    3. if you want just the masters and no information to what adjustments are applied, etc ... select the images and then export masters (shift-command-s) ... if you want the edited versions then export versions (shift-command-e) ... with either you cna select a sub-folder format that puts each image into a folder based on your criteria ...
    from what it sounds like what you want, you want to archive old projects and keep all data intact, but still be able to go back and access the image for various reasons, right ???
    have you thought of doing a referenced archive that keeps a jpeg preview in your library ???
    not ot sound like a *****, but i think you do not understand what and why aperture does what it does ... a good idea would be to read "Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 1.5" by Orlando Luna and Ben Long ...

  • Extremely large captivate project files

    Hi there,
    So we recently hit a problem with Captivate, we use both english and arabic for our courses and one of our projects is about 27 slides (including 7 question slides) and the final captivate file size for the arabic course (not published) is about 1GB, however the english course is a mere 120mb using the same material, only difference is in the text.
    I just tried deleting all the slides and selecing all unused data and deleted them for the project hirearchy, but I ran into another problem which is that the project file dropped 20mb in total and its still close to 1GB.
    I would also like to add that the published release for the arabic course was around 80mb.
    Adobe Captivate Version :  7.0.1.237
    Any ideas? let me know if more information is required..
    Thank you!

    Holy cow!! Adobe has a 3rd level of support? Cool. Only
    partially kidding ... I really didn't know you could access various
    levels. Is the 3rd level where you get to talk to the actual
    engineers? Just wondered ...
    Joel, in my experience it is often helpful to go to the most
    basic approach in trying to isolate a problem. For instance, you
    can eliminate the PPT being the cause of the problem by creating
    another to try importing.
    You can eliminate computer resources (on your own machine) by
    importing a tiny, tiny PPT file and work up to a larger one.
    And finally (for now), have you tried to use Power Point's "
    File > Page Setup" to reduce the footprint (size) of the
    PPT you are trying to import into Captivate?
    This has been known to help, and at one time years ago I even
    had a formula of sorts to get the size of the PPT to compliment the
    size of the Captivate stage (slide). Sadly, I can't find that now,
    but I would think you should keep the aspect ratio (AR) the same,
    and that should help.
    For instance, if the Captivate project is 800x600 (pixels),
    the aspect ratio is 4:3 (as it is for the standard computer
    monitor). Therefore you would want to set up your Power Point
    project with that same AR so that the import process is not forced
    to change AR, or to crop the imported images.
    Hope there is something of value in there for you. When you
    get up to that level of help where you are talking to the President
    of Adobe, could you drop my name ... every little bit helps.
    Have a very nice day JoelStern!!

  • Mass Publish Captivate Projects

    This may sound crazy, but I am looking for a way to mass publish captivate files.
    I am looking for something along the lines of:
         •Some menu option I wasn’t able to find
         •Command line interface
         •Magic
    I have over 350 captivate projects that need to be exported to both Flash and SCORM. Thanks to a series of unfortunate events, my teams past 7 months of Captivate 4 work has recently been re-exported with Captivate 5 just in time for Flash Player 10.1.102.64 to render them unplayable.
    I have waited for an update of Flash Player, but our go live date is approaching fast and I can’t just wait on hopes any longer. This leaves me with installing the manual Captivate 5 hotfix and re-re-reporting 371 projects… twice; once in Flash and another in SCORM.
    Any suggestions anyone may have would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Carlos

    Hi Harsh,
    You can mass upload Projects by using the standard Project Template available, just add  another Field  "GENERATE_DOCUMENT_ID" in the template and set it too TRUE. It will generate the new UNIQUE_DOC_NAME for the new project which you are creating via the Workbook.
    Sample workbook sent to you mail id mentioned above.
    Hope it helps!!
