Export Chapter Markers and time

Final Cut Pro 6.0.2
Is it possible to export a file showing the chapter markers in a sequence and the timecode for each chapter? We need to analyze the duration of each chapter. Any suggestions as to how to do this.
thank you

put an in point at marker 1 and out point in marker 2 in the FCp sequence, and see how long the duration is... repeat for 2 to 3 etc...

  • The difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers

Does anyone know what is the difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers? I can not find anywhere on Google. Also in the tutorials I have seen, suggesting DVD Studio Pro markers, but it did not mention the chapter markers.
    Thanks,

"Adding Chapter and Compression Markers to Your Sequence
Once you have your edited sequence or program finished, you can add markers to the sequence for use on DVD. Markers are reference points you can place within clips or sequences that identify specific frames. There are two kinds of markers you can add that directly relate to authoring a DVD—chapter markers and compression markers.
    • Chapter markers allow DVD authoring applications to create a navigable chapter list for your exported QuickTime movie. Chapter markers force MPEG keyframes (known as I-frames) at their location, since the DVD specification requires an I-frame at each chapter point.
    • Compression markers identify areas of abrupt change and include two types: those that are automatically inserted by Final Cut Pro at all edit points, and those you manually place in the clip or sequence. Like chapter markers, compression markers force I-frames at their location, although in this case it is for better quality encoding, and they are not used to create a chapter list.
Note: When you export a QuickTime movie, you have an option to export various kinds of markers, including compression, chapter, or DVD Studio Pro markers. *When you choose to export DVD Studio Pro markers, Final Cut Pro actually exports chapter markers and all compression markers.* This includes compression markers you set manually, as well as ones created automatically by Final Cut Pro at edit and transition points."

  • Chapter Markers and relationship to buttons in Encore

OK...this has to be a basic question BUT: When I go from Premiere CS 3 and send my time line that has chapter markers (and each of these chapter markers has descriptive text)...when I send hit Export to Encore, how do I get a menu that would have a separate "Chapter" menu with these exact Chapter Markers automatically set to a button: If I have 16 chapter markers, how do I automatically get 16 buttons on the "Select Chapter" or Select Scene menu. It seems I have to take a template from Encore add additional buttons to equal 16 buttons that I would need then edit it in PhotoShop and correct the text from the button template...and so much WORK!!!!!
Wont Encore read the chapter markers and their text from the time line and automatically create the buttons on a separate menu page called "Scene Select" or something like that?
Please SAVE my life with any support or help. I cannot seem to find the Adobe video that would help me with this
    Cheers

I have really gotten completely stressed: This is what is said on this page of information
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WS88D71543-E7FD-4726-80E 0-7FEA376A5239.html
    3. Choose a menu template.
Encore templates are predesigned menus that come in several styles. Buttons on the templates automatically link to DVD markers placed in the sequence. Encore creates additional submenus as necessary to accommodate all the DVD markers in a sequence.
THIS SHOULD FUNCTION AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND BELOW:
BUTTONS ARE AUTOMATICALLY LINKED TO DVD MARKERS PLACED IN THE SEQUENCE. ENCORE CREATES ADDITIONAL SUBMENUS AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMMODATE ALL THE DVD MARKERS IN A SEQUENCE.
BUT THIS IS NOT HAPPENING WHEN I EXPORT FROM ADOBE PREMIERE PRO TO ENCORE IN THE CS3 PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES ENCORE...WHAT'S WRONG ??????!!!!!!
THANKS AGAIN AND MERRY XMAS TO EVERYONE!

  • CS4 exporting chapter markers to Encore?

In my older version of Premiere Pro, exporting an AVI file that contained chapter markers readable by Encore was pretty simple.  There was a checkbox on the export parameters screen, and as long as you checked it, Encore would be able to pick up the chapter markers.
It seems that life is not so simple in CS4.
The export dialogue in CS4 does not seem to have a checkbox for indicating that I want the chapter markers included in the metadata of the AVI files.
I did find and check the box for each individual marker to indicate that I wanted it to be treated as an Encore marker.  But when I export the sequence to an AVI file and then import that AVI file into Encore, there are no chapter markers.
I read the help message, which recommended File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore, but when I tried that option I found it to be a real pain in the neck.  It wanted to create a brand-new Encore project, and I couldn't find a way to tell ilt to use my existing Encore project.  Also, I will want to use the same sequence in more than one Encore project, so I really don't want to tie it to an individual project - I want to just export it as an AVI that contains the metadata to be usable in a variety of Encore projects that I may want to use it in.
Is there a way to do what my older version of Premiere Pro allowed me to do - export an AVI file that contains the necessary chapter markers for Encore?

En chapter markers can only be exported from CS4 if:
You send the sequence to En via Dynamic Link.  The markers don't have to have a name in this case.
You name the chapter markers and export from Pr as MPEG2 DVD.  In this case the chapter markers have to have a name, and you have to check "Include Source XMP Metadata" in the flyout menu of the Export Settings dialog.  (The chapter marker information is included in the sidecar XMP file)
Gone is the ability to export chapter markers with AVI files.
Although you can't specify what En project you want from Pr when sending a sequence to En via Dynamic Link, you can open any En project and import one or more Pr sequences via Encore's File | Adobe Dynamic Link command.

  • Exporting chapter markers

Is it possible to export chapter markers from a premiere pro sequence so that they are embedded within quicktime h264 file like it is with compressor?

Since you have 12 sequences, you now have to create another sequence and drag your 12 sequences into that one. Then you have to move the playhead to the start of each nested sequence, press m twice, set a chapter name and click on the Chapter button. Then you have to Export/Quicktime Movie and select Markers: Chapter Markers in the export dialog.

  • Error Exporting Chapter Markers from FCP X

After upgrading to Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8, I am having problems exporting chapter markers.  Specially, at the end of the export, this error message appears and cancels the entire export:
Error Message: "The operation could not be completed because the chapter marker track could not be written (error -12769)."
As you can see, none of my markers are closer together than one to two minutes, and the error message appears whether I have a marker at the very beginning of the project, or occurring a few frames in.
The only report of this problem on Apple's support forums was caused by trying to read FCP X 10.0.5 markers in 10.0.6.  In this case, all my markers were created in 10.0.8.
This error persists even after trashing FCP X preferences and moving marker positions.
The file will export perfectly when chapter markers are not included in the export.
At this point, I don't have a good workaround.
    Thanks,
    Larry

Hi I have this same problem right now!
    Mac Mini
    OS 10.8.5
    FCP 10.0.9
No recent upgrades, nothing has changed.
It had been working fine since I bought the Mac Mini + software in 2013…)
I have already tried removing the markers, deleting all markers and making new ones, creating a new project and pasting the old sequence into it (without markers), creating new markers in the new project, etc...
I still cannot create a master file (unless I deselect 'use chapter markers'), or unless I select a range of the project which does not include markers!
    Please Help!

  • Exporting Chapter Markers from FCPX

In FCP7 I can export my master file with it's chapter markers to a new movie file ready for DVDStudioPro.
How do you export chapter markers from FCPX?
Also, FCP7 allows you to export without making a self contained movie file that DVDStudioPro can use to burn the DVD.
Is it possible to export from FCPX without making a self contained movie file?
    If so, how?
    Thank you for your help.

If you're going to DVD Studio Pro, it will need to transcode to mpeg-2 at some point.  If you exported a referenced QT movie from FCP7 previously, then DVD Studio Pro was doing the transcoding for you.
In FCPX, I suggest exporting using Compressor 4.  Apply the DVD preset (mpeg2 video and dolby digital audio) and you can also apply chapter markers within Compressor.
Import the 2 resulting files into DVD Studio Pro and no further transcoding (other than menus) will need to be performed when you burn the disc.

  • Chapter Markers and iDVD'08'

    Hi
Can anyone who has upgraded to iDVD'08' tell me if the Chapter Markers that are set in FCE are recognised in iDVD'08 when you import.
    Pete

YES! I put together a quick movie with chapters in FCE 3.0 HD and exported as a QT movie with chapters. (the usual way). I can drag the movie into iDVD 08 and the chapter markers and titles are included. (as expected). This was a big fear of mine. It seems to work fine in the iDVD preview mode. I did not burn the movie to a DVD, but it seems to work.

  • Compressor H.264 not exporting Chapter Markers

I am still struggling to see chapter markers show up in DVD Studio Pro using compressor & H.264. Compressor outputs the Chapters markers when using MPEG2. My understanding is that this should be automatic.

Compressor does not export chapter markers when using its H.264 for HD DVD presets. You can either create a chapter marker text file that you can import or manually add the chapter markers in DVD Studio Pro directly..

  • IDVD 7 trouble with chapter markers and burning

After importing my iMovie into iDVD, with all the chapter markers working fine, saved fine. When I try and burn, I get the message - "Assets used in your project were changed since you last opened this project". It then asks if I want to update. If I say no - I can't burn it. If I agree to the auto update it screws up all the chapter markers and doesn't seem to let me fix them!
I have one week left to have this completed. I'd so appreciate any suggestions!! Thanks.

That, I am afraid, is 'normal' behaviour.
Chapter markers are screwed up this way, and all we can do is to create a new iDVD project.

  • Chapter Markers and Self-Contained Exports

OK, Final Cut Express 2.0.3 on a MacOS 10.3.9 system
I pull in some digital video and edit out unwanted parts by making a sequence of sub-clips, each marked with a Chapter Marker.
To save some drive space, I export the sequence, with Chapter Markers, to a self-contained Quicktime file in full DV format.
Re-import the resulting file and I see no Chapter Markers anywhere in FCE. If I drop the same file on iDVD, all the chapters show up, so I know the markers are there.
Anyone know of a way to get them to show up in FCE ?
    Thanks.

I just saw my chapter markers by opening my FCE 2 DV export in QuickTime Pro 7.0.3. They show up as a text track and display across the top 32 pixels (or so) of the movie. I disabled the text track. Even so, the QuickTime Player shows the Chapter labels to the right of the controller bar. However, they disappeared for further exports.

  • Chapter markers and exporting from FCE

Hi guys, hope you can help.
I am trying to export a film from FCE (latest version) into iDVD 08 retaining the chapter markers.
The problem is that it is not happening when I export using the QuickTime Conversion option, since there appears to be no 'chapter markers' option in any drop-down menu there. Of course, there IS that option in the 'Make QuickTime File' export BUT the film (which is in widescreen) then doesn't export as a widescreen file. That only happens if I use the Conversion option and set the size to 1024x576 or whatever. Since this option to set the size doesn't exist in the simpler 'make quicktime file' export option, I'm at a loss to know what to do.
Basically, I either export as a squashed image but keep the chapter markers OR export the film in the correct ratio but with no chapter markers.
    It's really frustrating. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    TP

If you have Quicktime Pro the 16:9 fix is easy.
From FCE export the .mov with Export/Quicktime Movie together with its chapters.
In the QT Pro Player open the exported .mov movie, open its property window (cmd-J), select the Video Track, then open the Visual Settings tab, uncheck Preserve Aspect Ratio and set the Scaled Size to 1024x576, and save.
Now when you import this .mov to iDVD it preserves its 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Problem exporting chapter markers

Using iMovie 8.0.5, I created an iMovie project containing 17 chapter markers (total, 3 hours 55 minutes long) which I plan to burn to DVD using Toast Titanium 9. When I export the project (export movie) large or medium, the chapter markers do not export (I opened the created MPEG 4 movie with QuickTime Player, QuickTime 7, MPEG Streamclip, iTunes and VLC, no chapters to be found). I cut the project down to 6 chapters (total, 1 hour 26 minutes). Still no chapter markers exported. However, I cut the project down again to 3 chapters (total, 18 minutes 22 seconds) and I now see the 3 different chapters in the MPEG 4 movie created, using QuickTime Player. I understand that I should be able to export up to 99 chapter markers per project. Exporting such a project is time consuming and I will most likely die before finding the solution. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

just export a qt ref from fcp and import that into dvdsp and lay it on to the dvd video track. It'll carry your markers over. You can then delete the video from the track and replace it with your compressed version, but the markers from the qt ref will remain.

  • FCP 6 doesn't seem to export chapter markers in a QT movie

    Hi,
New user of Mac and FCP 6 here. I've constructed my sequence in FCP 6, adding the appropriate chapter marks (which show up fine in FCP 6). I then Export my sequence to a self-contained QT movie, making sure that in the Save dialog "Marker" is set to "All Markers". If I now render the QT movie and bring it into either Compressor or DVD Studio Pro; the chapter markers are now gone.
After trying for several hours in FCP 6 to export different ways, I never could get Compressor or DVD Studio Pro to find the markers. I eventually gave up and manually reentered them into Compressor. When Compressor was complete, I brought its m2v and ac3 files into DVD Studio Pro. Lo and behold the chapter markers were still there.
Being a novice to FCP 6, do I have a setting somewhere that is preventing me from exporting markers? Or could this be a bug due to my workflow.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Mike

I've been wondering about this for the last couple of days. Lately my QT exports of my FCP sequences have not been retaining their chapter markers. They are fine for DVDSP, but not for Quicktime DV or even mp4 or m4v files that would normally contain them previously. What's going on here?
Sending friends and family my videos, I want to give them the option of selecting from the list of chapters in the video. I feel like I've wasted time putting the chapters in when they don't show up for the folks who play them.
