Export exif / metadata

Hi,
how can i export all exif / metadata from an image to a txt/csv file?
I'm missing the copy & paste function for the metadata. If i edit an image with an external app, some of the exif data gets lost...
Cheers

*missing the edit button*
I want to extract all the exif data (ISO, Aperture, Exposure, ...) I see inside Aperture.
And is there a way to write the exif (ISO, Aperture, Exposure, ..., NOT ONLY the subject, description, ...) from one image to a new image?

  • How do I export exif data in Aperture?

It seems that Aperture exports very little data that is of use (i.e., minimal IPTC metadata). Is there a work around to export EXIF metadata? If not, is there a feature request mechanism within Apple?
    Thanks much,

    Tim,
for the GPS info you may look at this sample code from another script of mine:
    try
                                  tell application "Aperture"
      activate
tell im -- any Aperture image
set longi to value of EXIF tag "Longitude"
set lati to value of EXIF tag "Latitude"
try -- remove this "try" if you want a warning if the altitude tag is empty
set alti to value of EXIF tag "Altitude"
                                                      end try
try -- remove this "try" if you want a warning if the location tag is empty
      --          set plce to "unknown"
set plce to value of IPTC tag "Image City" as rich text
                                                      end try
                                            end tell
                                  end tell
                        on error
-- whatever you want to do in case of an error
                        end try

  • Exporting EXIF and other metadata

I would like to export EXIF data into a spreadsheet format for my photography course assignment, but the "Export Metadata" menu option only puts out a limited set of metadata fields. I downloaded a trial version of Aperture 2 but that doesn't seem any better.
Is there any way of exporting the full set of metadata, or at least the EXIF data?

If you're comfortable using the command line, exiftool will do this for you.
When my house flooded back in September, I had to take pictures of all the damaged items in the house for an insurance claim. After adding the metadata and exporting the images as jpegs, I used exiftool to extract the metadata into a csv file for importing into a spread sheet. The csv file contained the caption, keywords, filename and headline. Just google exiftool.

  • Lightroom 4 Export - EXIF data missing

I noticed that the EXIF data did not seem to be included in the jpeg file resulting from EXPORT.
I have double checked to make sure that under the METADATA section to select "ALL" and have both boxes (Remove Location Info & Write Keyword as Lightroom Hierarchy) unchecked.
Doing the same export in Lightroom 3 has no problem to include EXIF data in the JPEG file.
I am running the MAC version of the released Lightroom 4. Thank you in advance.

Hi Dorin, thank you for your reply. After reading your reply, I went back and checked my jpeg files carefully. You are correct that all the EXIF metadata are there.
My statement of 'missing' EXIF data was based on my EXIF data did not show up after I uploaded my JPG files to pBase, while all still worked well with Lightroom 3. Uploading the same set of jpeg files to other photo site like Picasa, the EXIF information is all there. Also, when I import those jpeg files in Lightroom 4, t=all the EXIF metadat are there too. It implies that it is a problem with pBase having probelm reading the EXIF of jpeg file from Lightrrom 4. Not sure what is the difference in Lightroom preparing the jpeg files, but I believe this 'missing EXIF' problem is site specific (i.e. pBase).
I will modfify the Topis to show pBase problem only if I can. Thank you.

  • IPhoto geotags not save in EXIF metadata

Why if I geotag a picture using iPhoto, that geotag won't be saved into the EXIF metadata? Exporting for example that picture in, say, Adobe Lightroom, or uploading it to Flickr won't show the location I picked in iPhoto, simply because that information is not stored in the EXIF metadata.
Is it this behaviour what iPhoto is supposed to do? Or is it a bug? Conversely, if I geotag a picture in Lightroom, that geotag will be saved in the EXIF metadata, and correctly read by any other application

iPhoto stores the location data in the edited version and does not write it into the original image file. To create a geocoded image file, export the edited version with the location data included:

  • Photoshop Bug? GPS exif metadata stripped out

We recently discovered that ANY changes made in Photoshop CS4 stripped out our GPS exif metadata.  We also tried it in CS3 - same thing!  And by changes, this includes anything - changing IPTC, adjusting levels, etc.  It even happened when just opening, re- saving and closing the file in Photoshop.
FYI:  We tested it with images exported from both Adobe Camera RAW (Canon files) and Phocus(Hasselblad), and the problem occurred with both.  We've also tried it with files from different cameras, which used different GPS brands altogether, therefore we can rule out:  the GPS units, camera (Canon 1Ds Mark II, Hasselblad H3D-39), and software used to convert RAWS (Phocus, Adobe Camera RAW, Lightroom).  We also tried different computers to make sure no preferences were corrupt on an individual machine, to rule that out.
To make things even more complicated, we just discovered that even though we can no longer see the GPS info in Photoshop CS4, Adobe Bridge DOES see the GPS info!  But - none of our other softwares which normally recognize GPS can see the info (iView, Cumulus).
    Very, very frustrating.......HELP!
Mac OS 10.5.6, PowerMac 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xenon, Photoshop CS4, Files exported to Prophoto RGB 16-bit TIFF) using both Lightroom and Phocus

Addendum: Does anyone know how to add EXIF back into a file?
I assume this would be difficult, as EXIF is hard to remove, much less put back.
Many of these files have already been worked on extensively, and re-importing and re-working is not a good option.
We have already tried the following (did NOT work):
    1)  Exporting the XMP from the file BEFORE any changes are made (with GPS info still intact), and importing XMP to finished file (tried all 3 option settings)
    2)  Copy and pasting the finished file on top of the original (GPS intact file) and flattening, so that the finished file would take on the properties of the old, un-retouched file.  What's odd about this is that after flattening the file, saving, and looking at File Info - it appeared it had WORKED.  But when you close the file, and re-open, the GPS is gone again.

  • Export without metadata

Hello, is it possible to save/export images without exif/metadata informations? And to resize them in this step?
I'd like to export a bunch of images from different Cameras out of the Organizer and want them to have the same size on no exif information.
I know the way in Aperture, but not in PSE.

You could use 'save for web' in the editor. That allow you to resize while stripping the metadata.

  • Statistics of 5000+ photos, using Exif metadata?...

    Hi everyone!
I am planning to buy a dSLR, but I don't know what lens to buy? Wide angle? Standard? Tele?...
As I have used a camera for the last 5 years, i'd like to make some statistics about the focal lengths I have used to take the pictures...
If possible, i'd like to edit the stats in a spreadsheet, to make graphs, etc...
Do you know if Aperture can export all the Exif metadata of all the pictures into a text/spreadsheet file?
Or do you know any software that could do that?
    Thank you!...

It's awhile since I used the metadata export, I'd forgotten that it only includes IPTC data. So you probably know what's coming next...
Aperture Assistant* will export pretty well any metadata to a CSV file:

And a new screengrab I've put up just for this thread...

  • How to synchronise metadata between Lightroom catalogue and exif metadata (e.g. Orientation and rating)?

    Hi there,
i have some third-party tools that also read my original photos that I use in my workflow. That is especially my private synology cloud, from which I can watch my images in the browser and in mobile devices like my iPhone/iPad.
i Ido not want to export a second copy of the pictures from Lightroom to be used by the other tools and still want to be able to synchronise the two most important values between these tools and Lightroom: orientation and rating.
is there any way to store orientation and rating from lightroom in the original photo's exif data? vice versa is there a way to synchronise these values back from the exif metadata to Lightroom? Especially orientation is an issue, because I have older cameras that do not set the orientation tag and I have to orient them in Lightroom.
rationale: I'd like to use web or mobile devices to rate pictures with my friends and family and do not to have everybody gather around my Lightroom PC.
I don't want to be trapped in the adobe product family. Buying Lightroom-mobile is not an option as I don't accept public clouds and the pricing of it.
    Any hints?
    cheers,
    Meike

Use the Metadata > Save Metadata To File command to write orientation and rating from the LR catalog back to the photo's metadata.  Or set the option Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
If an external tool changes a photo's metadata, LR will display an indicator in the upper-right corner of its thumbnail in Library grid mode:
You can tell LR to reread all the metadata from the file by doing Metadata > Read Metadata From File (this will replace all the metadata in the LR catalog, so beware).
You can find all photos that have changed metadata in the file by using the Metadata Status column in Metadata browser of the Library Filter bar.

  • Context right-click to export XMP metadata to file

I'd like to have the right click context menu include the option to "Export XMP Metadata to Files" in the Library grid or filmstrip. Currently an annoying trip to the Menu bar is required to invoke this function.

It was there for B4.1. The Contextual Menus are getting crowded, so maybe that's why they took it out.
I like lots of Contexual Menus, too. But they get a little useless if too crowded, so maybe they need ot be user configuarable for what one uses the most.
    Maybe by V1.5?

  • How to export custom metadata fields

How do I export custom metadata fields (or even the DATE) to a text or spreadsheet? Why does Aperture have dozens of metadata choices, but only allows a few to be exported?

You can try Automator which must be installed already in your computer. Create a new workflow, on the left pane select Aperture to see a list of actions, select "get selected items" and "extract metadata", and drag both to the right most pane. there you'll choose the Tag names to extract from the images already selected inside aperture and choose an output method, tabbed text should work fine for a spreadsheet. Hope it works.

  • Index of EXIF-metadata from jpeg files by TREX

    Hello,
    I have the following scenario:
We have a central fileserver with a lot of marketing pictures. Our marketing people are looking for a solution to search pictures by data stored in the EXIF-metadata of the jpeg-files.
So I like to integrate this fileserver as a repository in KM, set up an index and let TREX do the search (as of note 663630 TREX can search the EXIF-Data of JPEG-Files).
As goodie I want to give the marketing people the possibility to browse through the pictures in an image gallery. This gallery should be consisting of a query-based taxonomy where all the pictures are sorted by special EXIF-data (e.g. name of the photographer).
Until now I have integrated the fileserver (as a FS-Repository) and create an index.
Before index creation I added the mime-type “image/jpeg” to the TREXValidMimeTypes.ini and restarted TREX.
After indexing the pictures could be found by it’s name, but the EXIF-data is not indexed.
    Now my question:
Why TREX doesn’t index the EXIF-metadata?
And how can I use the EXIF-data in an taxonomy?
    System:
    EP6.0 on WebAS 6.40 SPS16
    TREX SPS16 Patch 2
    KMC SPS16 Patch 2
    Greetings from Berlin, Germany
    Jens

    Greetings to Berlin,
when triggered by KM, TREX will only index metadata that is known to KM as KM propertis.
I do not know in detail and am not at all sure, but you could try to create custom properties in KM that are called exactly like your EXIF-metadata, set them to "indexable", <b>not</b> fill them with values on KM side and then try again.
You may want to try this for just one of the EXIF-metadata as a test.
Even if that works somehow, the maximum result is:
    - Property <b>name</b> existent in KM
    - Property thus searchable an classifiable
    - BUT property <b>values</b> will not show up in KM, as they will remain known only to TREX

  • IPhoto and EXIF Metadata

Is there any way to set iPhoto 6 so that it will preserve all metadata in an image, even if the image is modified in iPhoto? It seems like the EXIF metadata is preserved in my photos upon import into iPhoto, but if I adjust an image using iPhoto all my EXIF metadata (shutter speed, aperture, etc.) is overwritten or lost.
This is very annoying. Why does iPhoto behave this way? It has no business overwriting this metadata that should, by all logical accounts in my mind, remain with the image.

    Jim:
How are you checking the metadata? I find that when I edit, like a crop, the modified jpg contains all of the EXIF data that the original has. I've verified that with other applications that read all the metadata.
The only metadata that is not saved for use by other applications are the comments and keywords. Those are kept in the iPhoto database file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Need to export custom metadata fields to a national data base, can I ???

In Aperture3 are custom tags embedded in exported Versions or Masters. I have a task to embed matadata on 2000 items and need to pass on the information to someone who doesn’t have Aperture

I am not sure whether you really can embed custom metadata in the jpeg file itself. However you can quite easily export all metadata associated with a file in Aperture using AppleScript. The script below shows you how it works in principle with the different data categories in aperture: IPTC, custom fields etc. To adapt the script to your needs, replace eg "Photo Category" with the name of your own custom field. By copy/paste you can add more fields...
    tell application "Aperture"
    set tSelection to the selection
-- this is the header, not really necessary
set tValues to "Version Name" & tab
set tValues to tValues & "File Name" & tab
set tValues to tValues & "Keywords" & tab
set tValues to tValues & "Category" & tab
set tValues to tValues & return
    --here starts the real stuff
repeat with i from 1 to number of items in tSelection
set tImg to item i of tSelection
    --add Version name
    try
set t to name of tImg
    on error
    set t to ""
    end try
set tValues to tValues & t & tab
    try
    --add FileName
set t to the value of other tag "FileName" of tImg
    on error
    set t to ""
    end try
set tValues to tValues & t & tab
    try
    --add IPTC tag
set t to the value of IPTC tag "Keywords" of tImg
    on error
    set t to ""
    end try
set tValues to tValues & t & tab
    try
    --add a custom field
set t to the value of custom tag "Photo Category" of tImg
    on error
    set t to ""
    end try
set tValues to tValues & t & tab
    --next line/image
set tValues to tValues & return
    end repeat
set f to choose file name with prompt "Choose file name..."
    set my_log to tValues
set mylogfile to open for access f with write permission
set eof of mylogfile to 0
write my_log to mylogfile starting at eof
    close access mylogfile
    end tell

  • Exporting Custom Metadata to Excel

I've created custom metadata views and presets for cataloging my images. Is it possible to export this metadata into an Excel spreadsheet as a CSV or TSV file? File/Export/Metadata exports standard metadata, but not my custom fields and entries. Or, is it possible to export XMP sidecar files and somehow import those into Excel? All that data is there somewhere within Aperture - please help me get it out and into a spreadsheet! Thanks.
