Exporting 90 min project into Q/T. Error out of disk space??

After an atmmpted export reaching 99% - Message "Error out of disk space"
Can't export full movie.
Tried exporting in smaller chunks and that seems to work but obviously not the result  i'm after.

OK, let's play 20 questions!
Here are the first four:
Where is your media stored?
What codec are you exporting?
What drive are you exporting to?
How full is that drive?

  • "error: out of disk space message" while exporting Quick time file

Got an "error: out of disk space message" while exporting a 94min hdv project to the quicktime conversion (format:QT mvie, use mose recent settings / Options-dv/dvcpro -ntsc, size-dimensions compressor native) I also tried using compressor to creat a QT movie and got same error message. It gives me an estimate of 4-6 hrs, runs and at the end of 4hrs it gives me the error message. It is a large project, transitions filters 4+vid tracks 9 audio tracks, but Im using a dual4core, 4 gigs of ram.
Is this a ram or hard drive problem. I asume its the disk but cant imagine Im running out of space.
I've tried sending it to the "hard drive bay 1" with 30 free gigs and to the "hard drive bay2" which has 22 gigs open. can't imagine we are making a file bigger than that. I'm thinking about sending it to an external drive with 60 gigs free.
Any help would be great since We have our sound mixer waiting for this as a video reference. Also trying to export OMF files but they are greater than 2 gigs so we're gonna try and split the track up with 4 tracks, 3 tracks & 2 tracks. This has been over a years worth of work and our sound mixing is the last thing to do. Please help us over the hump and I'll thank you on our website, thelaughingplanet and maybe even send you a copy of the movie. Marc

""hard drive bay 1" with 30 free gigs and to the "hard drive bay2" which has 22 gigs"
Sounds like you're getting perilously low on drive space, you should always leave about 15% free on a drive for the OS to do it's thing. Either backup and clear some room, or get another drive.

The 20 gig qt file was what the mixer asked for. I guess he wants it instead of a dvd because it can be inserted to his pro tools. He asked for the 16:9 size dv/dvcpro ntsc format. He may be wrong and a half frame size would work. he did say he wanted the precision info provided by the QT file. Will the half frame give him the same frame and precision movie info of the 20 gig file with only a lower quality display image?
The problem with dropping everything into a dv seq is that we have many sections that have multiple layers of video with movement and size changes. What is the problem with making a 16:9 QT file?

  • "Error:Out of Disk Space" message. Why?

I've been using an Apple G4 with FCP2 to capture footage through a Sony DSR-11 deck. I've set up a LaCie 500GB 7200, with most of its 500GB available, as capture disk. As late as last summer I used this system to capture 70+ hours of footage which was then edited on another system.
This time I've met only problems. I've tried capturing 5 different DV tapes. They seem to be capturing but at the end of the hour I get the message "Error: Out of Disk Space".
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've checked the set up and everything seems in order. (These tapes are 4:3, the ones captured last year were 16:9 DV, so the only adjustment I had to make was un-checking "anamorphic".) I even tried capturing to the MAC hard drive to see if the problem was the LaCie drive, but I get the same same message. (The LaCie I've been using had been full with last year's capture scratch and the disk had been erased through LaCie's Silverlining program, so for a while I began to think that this may be the problem; that maybe I'd have to reformat the disk, etc. but this test seems to rule that out.)
    Thanks.

Since I last wrote I’ve changed hard drives, run tests on them, as well as trash my preferences, which I did earlier. Still, if I try to capture a tape (to disks with up to 460 GB available) I get the message “Error: Out of Disk Space”. The only thing I can think of doing now is deleting and then reinstalling the Final Cut software.
Here I’m kind of dumb and don’t want to make any mistakes. This Apple has been a stand-alone computer used only for Final Cut and the software was installed when I got it. The rest of my life has been conducted on a PC. So is there anything I should do before deleting Final Cut? Should I be doing anything to protect exiting project files, captured clips, thumbnail cache etc.? Will Final Cut just recognize these when I re-install? What do I do? Just open the Mac hard drive, identify the Final Cut application and drag it to Trash? Do I need to empty the trash first or should I leave it there for safety?
I look at the instructions that came with my ancient Final Cut 2 disks. Here’s what they say in full:
To install QuickTime, follow these steps
    1) Insert the Final Cut Pro CD in your CD drive. (I see I have two disks: one “Final Cut Pro 2”, the other “Final Cut Pro 2:Tutorial Media” Do I need to install the second?)
    2) Double-click the CD’s icon, then double-click the QuickTime Installer folder.
    3) Double-click the QuickTime Installer icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) When the Choose Installation Type window appears, select Custom, then click Continue.
    5) In the next window, click Select All, then continue
This replaces any previous versions of QuickTime and ensures a complete installation of all components required by Final Cut Pro.
    6) When a message appears saying installation was successful, click Restart.
Is this all straightforward or might there be any potential pitfalls in the above instructions for someone unfamiliar with installing software on a Mac (In my case old software and an old Mac – a G4)? I guess I should also ask if you folks out there agree that re-installing Final Cut may be the answer to my problem, that this error message is the result of a glitch that has arisen in the installed version of Final Cut.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I created a project with mostly photos and when I try to export it tells me that there is an error not enough disk space

I just want to create a slide show on final cut and make it a .mov how do I do this? I keep getting an error:out of disk space. at the end of the exporting

  • "out of disk space" when trying to export

I'm working on a Macbook Pro and Final Cut Pro HD version 4.5. Here's the deal:
I'm trying to move a project into iDVD, so I'm exporting it as a Quicktime Movie. After about a minute of exporting, the "Error: out of disk space" window pops up. I have almost 3 gigs on my external drive which, I think, should be enough for the file.
On another post, someone with the same problem said it was a faulty timecode that made the project seem reeeaaallly long and the drive didn't have enough room for that long duration. I believe this might be the cause of my "error" because at the very beginning of my project the time code reads 01:00:00;00. If this IS the problem, how do I fix it? If not, what do I do?
I am a very amateur film editor and would very much appreciate any help!
    Thanks.

    Two things:
    1. That is not nearly enough of available space. At least 20 GBs is needed.
    2. FCP 4.5 HD is a PPC app; you are running it on a Intel Mac. Not compatible and you will have issues. I'm surprised you were able to install it.

  • "out of disk space" error on export, or stalls at 100%- but I have plenty!

Can anyone help me with this?
I'm using FCE HD 3.0 on an iMac 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB, running Snow Leopard.
I have over 700Gb available on the internal hard disc.
I'm trying to export a short (under 4 min) movie as a self contained Quicktime file. The footage was captured as DV-PAL anamorphic. On export the status bar says it will take "about a minute" counts down as expected but then stops at 100% and fails to finish. I left it at that point over night last night and when I came back to it this morning I had an "out of disk space" error.
    I've tried trashing preferences.
If I export using Quicktime conversion things work fine.
    Thanks
    Mary

FCE3 isn't supported on recent versions of the OS or QuickTime. Strange things can happen because of this.

  • "out of disk space" error with Quicktime export

Hi - just trying to export a fairly small (3 minute) video sequence to record via iDVD. When I try to export the sequence as a Quicktime movie, I get an "out of disk space" error. I don't understand why - the video is not that big, and I have over 30 GB of free disk space. I suspect I'd be able to do it if I deselect the "self-contained" option - but I don't understand why 30 GB of disk space isn't enough.
    Other details: FC Express 3.0

Well, I thought everything had been rendered, but I'd missed a couple of transitions. When I tried to render those, I got another "out of memory" error. Turns out I'd misinterpreted what the "minimum scratch disk size" setting meant - it was set to 32000 MB - I thought that meant that 32 GB would be available for storage, but I guess it means that the 32 GB will NOT be available for storage.
Anyway, I changed that minimum to 10000 MB, and now everything works....
    Thanks!

  • MXF export flagged as "out of disk space" - never finishes

Have an AVC-INTRA project which has a motion jpeg sequence in it.  When I attempt to export the entire sequence as MXF - avc-intra 100 the export through media encoder stops between 50 and 65% and a message comes up by windows indicating that an application needs to close.  Media Encoder CS5 5.0.1 does not complete the encoding and generates an error messege "out of disk space"  However, there is ample space on the drive being used to export the project.  Is there a file size limit to mxf export or duration limit to mxf export?  DO NOT UNDERSTAND why this export is not completing!
    Need help!  Thanks.

At first I thought I had a rendering issue with mxf but discovered Premiere Pro CS5 was creating the CONTENTS folder for the mxf on the right drive as per panasonics requirements.  Of course any sequence you export as an MXF file gets broken up into chunks in the contents folder.  One concern I have is if there is a limit in length or file size that the export is being limited to.  My sequence is 90 minutes in length.  Or better yet is the MXF container running out of chunk names for the sequence thus terminating the export.  Not sure on both.  I remember back in 1.5 or 2 when there was a bug concerning rendering long sequences but I thought Adobe has gotten past those types of errors.  Maybe not.  I checked the project size and there doesn't seem to be anything unusually large or strange going on with the project size.  This sequence is picture only with no audio.  If anyone else has a long sequence I recommend trying this to see if you get the same results.  Export should not be duration limited.  The other area I am thinking could be a problem is with memory management.  I've got 12 gigs of ram and I set media encoder to use a max of 9 gigs.  I'm wondering is there is something loosing track of memory on a longer export.  Created a new project and will try again.  This is my fourth attempt today.

  • Out of disk space when exporting

im trying to export a project to quick time and saving it to the desktop..
and a window appears telling out of disk space...
    What to do???????
    thank you...

You just have to specify the drive you wish to export to, in the export dialog interface...
What other drives do you have available?
    K
EDIT - What are you exporting, and what is the current workflow you're following.
If you simply don't have disk space, you could try exporting a reference movie...(uncheck 'make movie self-contained') Be aware that if you do this, you MUST retain all media that the file contains, and it won't work on another system...without the identical material anyway.
But if you're that low on disk space, you really need to find a longer term solution, like an additional drive, or simply delete unnecessary media from a drive.

    user11204020, what's your question?? :)
You're getting an out of disk space error ... which means you've run out of disk space, no?
Since it's saw related I'm guessing you'll need to make more space available to your OracleBIdata/tmp directory

  • "Out of Disk Space" Error When there are 198GB available

We are attempting to capture a two hour video from VHS through an ADVC-300 box. We can capture short videos easily. For some reason we keep getting an "out of disk space" error even though there are 198GB free on the scratch disk which is an external LaCie hooked through USB 2. The settings for the scratch disk have the Limit Capture unchecked.
Any ideas why this is happening? I've seen some postings about timecodes effecting capture, but since this is VHS through a box, that should effect things, right?
    -Kirk

dont know if its the cause of the specific error, but USB2 is not at all suitable for capture, especially long captures
USB2 has excellent burst transfer rates but does not have the sustained transfer rate necessary for video capture

  • "AE error: render can't continue -- out of disk space on all overflow volumes."

    Hi !
I get this message when trying to render (no matter what format I use)
"AE error: render can't continue -- out of disk space on all overflow volumes."
So ... I googled it, and the only thing I could find was, that I should change my preferences (overflow volumes and select drive), BUT I can't find overflow volumes in pref.? (CS 5.5, windows).
But why this error all of a sudden? I haven't changed anything and normally AE works fine.

At the risk of stating the obvious, that sounds like the hard drive you're trying to render to is full or almost full.  Did you check to see if there's enough space for your render on that drive?  Depending on the codec you choose and the length of the comp you're trying to render, the file size could be huge and it might not fit on your hard drive even if it looks like you have enough space.  If you're render is stopping in the middle, that could be the reason why.  How much space is on the drive you're trying to render to and what are your render settings?  Maybe a screenshot of the following info as it shows up in your Render Queue would be useful:

  • Running out of disk space error even tho I have 200GB free!!

    Dear users,
I have a huge problem. I have dowloaded an application from the AppStore named "Virtual City" and once I try to play the game it crashes saying "Running out of disk space" even tho I have more than 200GB free on my hard disk.
I am using a MacBook Pro Mid April 2010 with Lion latest version.
    What could be the problem??
    Thanks in advance.

Did you try to reset your phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Do you have an "other" section on your phone, bigger than 1GB? If yes, try to restore the phone to bring it back to normal size, it might contain corrupt data from an unsuccessful sync.
