Exporting from numbers on OSX 10.8.2

Prior to this update I used to be able to "save as" my numbers 2 page spreadsheet in excel format.  With the new update I can only export to excel or csv and it saves it as a folder with 2 spreadsheet??s

I would suggest looking at the monitors manufacturer's web site for possible drivers or software.
I read an article from a very old OS "how to" that if you held down the option key while opening System Preferences and continued to hold the option key while you selected Displays, you might get an an option to rotate. I can't test it since I don't have an external monitor.

  • Addressbook cant read .csv-files exported from Numbers (Solved)

    Hello,
I can hardly believe this myself, but please try. Numbers separates fields by semicolons while exporting my address data to a .csv file, which seems completely feasible to me. When trying to import this into Addressbook, the applications moans that it cant import this file because it is not valid.
Do programmers from separate groups at Apple ever test whether their Apps work together? I just expect them to do so and I cant imagine a case more simple then that. This is really poor. The reason why I put this complaint in the Numbers discussion is, that there is no forum for Adressbook (whereas iCal got his own - why?).
And the reason why I pick up this topic again in a new thread is that the other thread I found related to transferring data from Numbers to Addressbook took a weird twist when they resorted to writing a complicated and elaborate Apple Script for this basic task. The Script provided there messed up with valuable Address data in the first version, so I am not going to try it here.
I just took the search and replace functionality of my text editor to solve it for me. But I still believe that this should work without headaches right out of the box. So Addressbook programmers please hurry up, go, fix it. It is just too distressing. Imagine, I did this in public with Windows guys around. I dont want to experience such again.
    Yours, Christian Völker

    Hello Yvan,
yes, I agree that Numbers is doing fine and by your explanation I even know why it does the way it does, but Addressbook remains broken.
Regarding your script I did not even bother to read it and I just dont trust it because I cant sue you in case something goes wrong. I prefer to do my own faults and in this case it was an even better and faster solution for me to use my text editor with search and replace.
To make the story complete, after the data was accepted, Addressbook wasnt able to recognize the field labeled "Email" as an Email Address and Street as a Street Name. After telling Addressbook about the meaning of the fields, it consistently crashed while importing. No, this is no good. A Script wont heal these flaws.

  • Exporting from Numbers to Excel - New User needs help!

Hoping someone here can help me out, as I have searched the discussions and still haven't found what I'm looking for. I'm a new Numbers 09 user, and I love it. My experiences with Excel have been nothing short of frustrating, but with Numbers I feel like a spreadsheet wizard.
My problem is basically that I need to export my Numbers created sheets into Excel for use by clients that have not yet made the jump from PC/Excel to Mac/Numbers. This is crucial, as I just don't think I can build this sheet in Excel with the same type of success I have had with Numbers.
My Numbers document has five tables, a custom header graphic and a legend. When I export it to Excel, each table is put on it's own sheet, including the graphic and legend. Is there anyway anyone can help me export this properly or am I doomed to have to spend days learning Excel? Any responses would be appreciated. Thank you very much!
    B

    B,
It's a shame that you have become a Numbers user but are anchored to the Excel style of Sheet.
Separate Tables in Numbers will always become separate Sheets in Excel. If your clients don't have to write to the Excel document, why not send them a PDF of your Numbers document?
If you must furnish Excel documents to your clients, you're going to have to consolidate your five tables into one if you want everything to come out on one Excel sheet.

  • How to Export from Numbers 09 to Address Book or print mailing labels?

I need to know how to export contact information that is part of a Numbers sheet to Address Book and to be able to print mailing labels. I do not have to print from Address Book but do need to produce address labels. I've tried a number of things from the help menus in Numbers 09, Address Book, Word and Excel for MAC 2011. I probably just don't have a grasp fo what I'm supposed to do. Thanks much!

    nushuz,
I can sympathize if you're having trouble following the directions. Address Book will reject what looks like a perfectly good CSV file if it doesn't like the data it finds inside.
Here's what I have found to be the best way to create a CSV from Numbers for Address Book import...
Drag an Address Book contact to a Blank Sheet in Numbers. That's a Sheet in which you have deleted the default table.
This will give you a properly formatted table for conversion to CSV, and you just have to add all your contact data to the table you just created. Before you begin though, it's a good idea to Unhide all Hidden Columns, and there are probably many. Hover over any Column Label and click the menu triangle, selecting "Unhide All Columns", or words to that effect.
After you have all your data situated in the table, Share > Export > CSV and then Import to Address Book.

  • Hyperlinks in PDF files exported from Numbers 3.1

The new Numbers is slooowly starting to rock. The new ability to sort and rearrange ranged area is awesome.
I work with PR and we make reports to our clients. These reports are delivered in PDF files.
I have a serious problem with Numbers 3.1 and the hyperlinks included in my report - an exported PDF file. The hyperlinks seems to be randomly mixed up. If I press a certain link for a URL, the PDF might redirect me to the correct page or .. might redirect me another page from the report.
When I work in Numbers 3.1 sheet everything works just fine, all the hyperlinks are opened correctly. The problem only occours when it's exported as PDF.
My current procedure is to work in Numbers 3.1 and once a report is ready to be handed over to the client, I export it in Numbers 2.3 format and then export it as PDF - where all the hyperlinks work correctly.
But it would be sooo much more professionel and cool if everything just worked perfectly with Numbers 3.1.
    - Has anyone experienced this as well?
    - Does any one know if it's a bug - or if it me who's doing something silly?
    Thanks for all ears.
    Jakob

    Hi Jakob,
BlackPlum suggets: "Thankfully, I noticed that in the Export... dialog box, (from the File Menu), you can select "Current Sheet" in the Layout field (this field defaults to "All Sheets", it's easy to miss). So select Current Sheet, and voila, you now have a pdf with multiple pages (and clickable hyperlinks!)."
Though my Export To ... PDF does not have such an option.
Hope a solution will come soon.
Numbers 3.1 with a very long table (will not fit on one page when printing) and two sheets.

    B32 contains an active hyperlink.

    Now click on Print...
Now click on PDF (bottom left)
    Save as PDF
Here is the PDF opened in Preview (zoomed out to make a smaller screen shot)

Both of those hyperlinks are active.
    Clicking on this one:

  • How do I export a specific set of rows from Numbers?

What i am looking to be able to do is
Export a specific set of rows from Numbers
I am working with large files of information
but would like to break the file up into smaller files
    for example
    I have 1 file with 40,000 rows
I need to be able to export/save this file into 4 smaller files
    Rows 1-10,000
    Rows 10,001-20,000
    Rows 20,001-30,000
    Rows 30,001-40,000

I do not think I would use Numbers for this task.
I would duplicate the file (let's say the name is data.txt)
    and name the two files:
    dataA.txt
    dataC.txt
then I would open dataA.txt in TextEdit and delete the last half of the file and save
then I would open dataC.txt in TextEdit and delete the first half of the file and save
then duplicate dataA.txt and name the new file dataB.txt
then duplicate dataC.txt and name the new file dataD.txt
Now open dataA.txt and delete the last half of the file, save
Now open dataB.txt and delete the first half of the file, save
Now open dataC.txt and delete the last half of the file, save
Now open dataD.txt and delete the first half of the file, save
if you did this very often I would suggest a script of some kind

  • How do I Export a Chart as an Image from Numbers?

I am trying to export a chart from Numbers or Pages as a JPG. I have copied it to my clipboard and opened it in Preview but the image is very pixelated. Are there any other ways to do this? I'm trying to upload the image to a website.
Additionally, how can I get it so that the entire sheet is one color, rather than just the chart itself? All the axis labels remain white, but I would like to fill those in as well with the same color as the chart itself. The included screenshot should provide further detail.

It isn't as easy as it should be.  Here is a way to get a good copy of it:
Print the page that has the chart but choose  "Open PDF in Preview" instead of sending it to your printer.
In Preview, using the rectangular selection tool, select the chart and whatever other elements you might want to include (title, legend, anything else nearby).
    Copy
New from Clipboard to create a new document from it. Or you can paste it in another app.
This should give you an exact copy of what you had in Numbers and it will not be pixelated.

  • How to export to PDF from Numbers 3 with live hyperlinks?

    Hi there
I am wondering if it is possible to export a Numbers 3 file to pdf and maintain live hyperlinks? At this point I am having to export to Excel then to PDF from Excel which is very clunky!
    Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    having to reinstall Numbers 2!
Unless you took explicit steps to delete it (not really a good idea) then Numbers 2 is still on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09. On my machine it got moved there automatically when I downloaded Numbers 3.   It's handy to have Numbers 2 for legacy documents and also for situations like this workaround, which takes a minute at most and only needs to be done once.

As for the "Session could not be started for iPod" problem, just (Mac OS X only):
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Open Terminal.
    3. Copy and paste into terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
    Hit Return.
    4. Open iTunes.
    5. Make sure iOS device is plugged in and let it sync. That command that you needed to copy and paste into Terminal will disable the backup process when your iPod is plugged in and syncing.
    6. Quit iTunes after iPod is finished syncing.
    7. Return to Terminal and copy and paste the same command, but change "true" to "false".  Hit Return.
    8. Open iTunes.
    9. Backup should go smoothly.

  • How do I export Dates from Numbers to iCal?

I'm building a spread sheet in *Numbers '08* with +expiration dates+ for many of the line items. I would like to export those dates to iCal so that iCal can _show/send me a reminder on those dates_. I've read that some people may be using a program called Bento to interface between Numbers & iCal. Seems like one should not have to buy an entire software program to export a simple date from Numbers to ICal -- both being native Apple programs.
Perhaps there is a way to get Numbers to send date reminders without exporting to iCal?
    Any feedback is much appreciated.

Here is the script doing the trick with Numbers '09.
    --[SCRIPT createical_events_fromNumbers'09]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : createical_events_fromNumbers'09.scpt
déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    menu Scripts > Numbers > createical_events_fromNumbers'09
Le script crée les évènements dans iCal
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    --=====
Save the script as a Script: createical_events_fromNumbers'09.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
In a table from Numbers '09,
    select cells describing 'events'.
This table is supposed to embed :
    a column storing events descriptions
    a column storind start datetime
    a column storing end datetime.
Edit the instruction defining the calendar name to fit your needs.
    menu Scripts > Numbers > createical_events_fromNumbers'09
The script will create new events in iCal.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.
This script creates new events from the content of selected cells from a Numbers '09 table.
    --=====
    example:
    event #1 18 avr. 2010 05:35 19 avr. 2010 15:35
    event #2 19 avr. 2010 05:35 20 avr. 2010 15:35
    event #3 20 avr. 2010 05:35 21 avr. 2010 15:35

  • How to export pdf from numbers with page breaks

I am trying to export a pdf from numbers that contains page breaks.  When i print the page breaks are created for printing automatically and i like scrolling with no page breaks while working on spreadsheet.  But, if export pdf the file becomes one long scrolling page.  Which is good on screen but when email recipient tries to print, it prints to a single page and type face is impossibly tiny to read.  I would like to export a view in which page breaks are included but can not seam to find the process (i have recently switched  from excel to numbers).

One thing you might try (if you haven't already) is to pretend you are printing your numbers document, but after you press the "Print..." button (perhaps after doing the "Print setup" thing) do "Save as PDF" instead of just printing it.  Presumably, this gives you the PDF that is used to do the print job.

  • Script to merge data from Numbers into Pages document, export as PDF and send via email

    Hi,
I am wondering if it would be possible to achieve the following with an applescript:
    1. Merge Names from Numbers into a multi-page Pages document.
    2. Export each page of the resulting document as a PDF
    3. Attach each of these PDFs to an email with specific text in the body of the email, setting the subject, the 'from' email address, as well as the 'to' email address from a field in the Numbers document.
    4. Optionally send the emails automatically.
I would be glad to know if this is possible before I embark on trying to write such a script, and for any advice/script that would help me on my way.
    Thanks,
    Nick

Thanks Bernard.  Sorry if my original post wasn't that clear.  I think you've pretty much got it in your paragraph starting "So, I think you're asking for", but will explain more in the hope that it will be clearer:
I have a Numbers table with 2 columns: Name and Email.  I have say 50 people in this table and I need to email each person a version of a one page Pages document which would be identical except for their name.
The Name field is the only field that needs to be merged into the Pages document (one time only).
Once the merging has taken place the versions of the one page Pages document need to be exported as a PDF and attached to emails, one email from each person in the table in the Numbers document, with each email going to the email address corresponding to the name in the Numbers document.
The text in the email would be identical except for the name again.  The text for the email body, subject as well as the 'from' field would be contained in the script (i.e. generated by the script).
It would also be good to have the option of sending the emails automatically or manually, so that I could check that the emails that are generated are correct before sending.
    I hope that's clearer!
    Nick

  • TS1702 when I export my spreadsheets from numbers to excel, it separates every table on the spreadsheet into separate spreadsheets?  The export feature to excel is useless to me because of this.

Does anyone know why my spreadsheet from numbers that I created on my iPad using numbers, when I export the file to an excel format it separates all the tables in the spreadsheet into individual spreadsheets.  Instead of keeping the multiple tables on the single spreadsheet that I made.

Pop up menus won't export to Excel, just as Excel's data validation (their way of doing drop-down menus) won't import into Numbers.  I don't know any way around this other than to avoid pop up menus.  But if you are willing to do a little cleaning up after the export, you can recreate the pop-ups as data validation.  In your spreadsheet, include a table that has your list of pop up values. In Excel, use that list to create data validation.
Excel doesn't have checkboxes.  Often an "X" is used as a "checkmark" in Excel. You can design your Numbers spreadsheet to work the same way.  You'll have to fix any formulas that use the checkbox status; the formulas now need to look for "X" or blank instead of True/False.
