Exporting from the book module as a jpeg spread?

I just spent half a day designing my first book in LR 4. I completed the book a few minutes ago, and it was only then that I realized I don't seem to be able to export as a Jpeg or as a spread--only as a PDF, and then only single pages, so each spread is chopped in half.
Can this really be true?If so I am beyond disapointed. LR is supposed to be a pro tool and this book module seems to be acting more like a consumer tool. If I am correct, then the entire module is basically useless to me and I have wasted half a days work, as I'll have to begin all over again in a new program.
Can someone please make my day by proving me wrong? This is just such a letdown!

Thanks--I am on LR 4.1, and I do now see the ability to export as Jpegs. YAY!
Incidently, on the pages that I have used the 'two page spread' template, I am getting exports as a single spread. All others are single pages as you indicate. My plan, once the client approves of the design, is to import them into PS and manually past them together as a single spread.
An extra step that I hope future versions of LR will eliminate!

  • Lightroom stalls on trying to export from the book module

Lightroom stalls on trying to export from the book module to either PDF or Blurb. Progress bar at the top left just shows "Exporting book...rendering cover.untitled DNG". I have even tried a single page low resolution book but no difference. This happened in Lightroom 4 and still after upgrading to Lightroom 5. I have tried I have tried also unchecking all the background options.

When you click on <Send Book to Blurb> a dialog should come up that asks for your ID and password for your Blurb account. I don't know if Blurb ships to Norway - you probably can find out at the Blurb website. But I don't think that this is the problem here since you also cannot export a PDF or JPGs.
I don't know of any specifics why this is not possible for you but it's worth trying to replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr or updating / upgrading Lr does not replace the Preference File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.

  • Unable to export from the Book Module in LR-4.4 to Blurb, PDF and JPEG

I have made a book in the book module and was really looking forward to send it to Blurb for printing. I push the "Send book to Blurb... " button but nothing happens. I have tried to export to PDF and JPEG aswell, but nothing. I am Connected to internet, I have an account at Blurb but no reaction. Are there any settings I have missed or are there any bugs that prevents me from exporting? Do Blurb ship to Norway or is that the problem? Please help!!!

  • My (saved) book totally disappeared from the Book module in Lightroom

    Dear +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom,
I have been working for the past 100 hours or so on a 200+ page book in the book module in LR4.
Went to work on a second book that I had just begun to organize and came back to a full filmstrip (including the usage numbers showing me that all of the images had been used including a tiny 2 for a cover image) and the 4 blank pages we all see upon starting a project.
My entire book was gone. Poof!
I'm surprised you didn't hear my scream all the way in San Jose.
This couldn't be...I had officially saved the book several weeks ago when I first began it and had been working on it steadily ever since.
(For the record, I am working on a Mac OS X v10.7.5 and updated LR to v4.2.)
I can't begin to tell you the sick feeling over losing this amount of work.
I went to your LR forums to see if this was unique to me (Did I inadvertently hit a button I shouldn't have?)
I have always felt very confidant in LR's "saving" and "backup" abilities. Now I am devastated and have lost total confidence.
Do I try again in LR or move to another program?
So a friend helped me find these:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4303611
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4322352
(Which I've read very thoroughly and tried everything suggested.)
When I opened my most recent backup of LR, all the text was missing and many of the images were in color (this is a book of monochrome imagery)
    Huh?
When I went into my Time Capsule backups, same thing.
No text and many images were reset to original RAW files as if no post-processing had been done.
    Huh? (Again)
The thing that is genuinely unsettling is Adobe's lack of response to the issues expressed in the forums.
Surely the book making ability is an important one to your audiences?
Did I mention how sick I am over this?
So my question is this...can you help me? Can anyone there help me?
Because I really need help right now and don't want to lose confidence in a company that has always provided me with the tools I make my living from.
Or should I put this out publicly.
Right now I want to scream "Do not under any circumstances make a book using the book module in LR 4 until this devastating issue is addressed!!!"
(Fortunately, I have over 2,000,000 followers here on Google+ but not to worry...many do not speak English or know Adobe as anything more than material used to build huts.)
I am trying to stay reasonable. But again, I am very concerned over the lack of responsiveness on Adobe's part. Perhaps that will help get this problem addressed. Or more importantly, help a few other creative folks avoid how absolutely devastated I feel right now.
    (Big *******' sigh)
    Please respond. Please.
    Regards Alan Shapiro

It states in the iBooks Store that this book can only be read on an iPad or Mac.

  • Uploading a book (from the book module) to the web module

    Hello!
I just finished my first wedding album in the Lightroom 4 book module (yay!) now I would like to be able to upload the book via the web module so that my clients can approve it, but when I move to the web module, it seems to only upload the individual images--not the page layouts.
    Is there a work around?
    Thanks!
    Ellen

Oho! I see that! How did I miss that!
John--you have save my you-know-what today!!! THANK YOU!
OK--one last question since you seem to know everything--can I export the jpegs as a spread (ie--page 1 and 2 on a single 12" x 24" jpeg for 12" x12" book) Or do I need to import the jpegs back into photoshop and lay them together manually...does that make sense?
And thanks again for all your help today.

  • Printing PDF from LR4 Book Module

I am having a difficult time getting accurate color when printing a PDF Book file genetrated by the Book Module in LR4.
I've tried exporting the PDF with a Pro Photo profile, but when I open the file and try and print in Adobe Reader I can't figure out how to select an approriate output paper profile as is done in LR or Photoshop.  Doesn't seem to be a way to tell Adobe Reader to manage the color.  I can turn off having the printer manage the color in the Adobe Reader printer dialog screen, but have no idea what profile Adobe Reader is using when it sends the file to the printer.  I get somewhat accurate color but well off that produced by a direct LR4 print.
I've also tried exporting the PDF from the Book Module with the appropriate printer/paper profile chosen as the "Color Profile" (e.g. Canon iPF8300 Premium Semi-Glossy paper 2 280 (high)) and then printing from Adobe Reader with color management turned off in the printer and get decent color but still does not match up with the accurate colors produced by LR4 or CS5 using the same paper profile.  My guess is Adobe Reader is not just passing the file on but is changing something before sending to my iPF8300 printer.
Is there a more color aware program I can use to print these PDF's?  Am I missing something really obvious here?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Conrad

When you open Lightroom and go to the Book Module the first time, it must do two things:
    1. The Book module has a more sophisticated text engine than the other modules and it must load fonts that are installed on the system into memory. The more fonts on your system the greater the potential delay.
    2. To a greater extent, when you first open the Book module, all of the page-templates must load into memory for access. Once loaded, they do not need to be loaded again until you close Lightroom.
No matter how much processor or Ram you have will not appreciably affect these two operations. They are purely disk-read operations and are primarily limited by your disk data path.
Map Module requires interface with the internet to access Maps.
Web and Slideshow can be sped up by not having large numbers of available images standing by to render. Keeping the toolbar set to "Selected Images Only" rather than "All Filmstrip Images" helps this.

  • Export of the book from Lightroom to blurb, issue with Backgrounds ' opacitty = overexposed

    Hello,
I have Mac book Pro last generation.
While preparing the book with Lightroom, I used new proposed tool that I found very useful , to place photos as background with different type of opacity. After upload to Blurb some of these backgrounds have disappeared at all and some have very bright color (overexposed) , so I am afraid to launch the print . After export into Pdf, everything works correctly.
Please find enclosed  two obvious examples, two print screens of pfd file and 2 prinscreent from the ecvivalent of  the book Hylem & Mourad wedding at elyseephoto blurb page page 28, 42, 43(i add print screen also).
Please help me to solve the issue, maybe there are some installation to correct for the graphic backgrounds? Are there minimum opacity level?
Thank you in advance for your quick answer.
    Kind regards,
    Anna Akoun

In the top right hand corner of the Book Module under <Book > change from <PDF> to Blurb.
With Blurb selected you will get lo-res warnings when the resolution is too low. Later on you can change back to <PDF>.
    See screen shot:
You would not get a lo-res warning if you used original images from your camera. But if you either use small JPGs, or you crop an image severely and then use it for a full page image, the image will be too small to be used.

I would like to be able to enter my own page sizes to use in the Book Module (to export to 3rd party printers), rather than choosing defaults from the drop-down. Is it possible to do this?

No. You are limited to the choices within the Lightroom Book module.

  • Font smoothing in the Book module

    Hi everyone,
I use the Book module and export the resulting pages to jpeg files. Any text (text field, page caption, photo caption) is rasterized when zooming to 1:1 on the exported jpeg file. The pattern on the font edges is sharp without any smoothing (only black or white pixels, no shades on edges). In the printed pictures one can still see this pattern, it is really ugly.
I never saw this when usig photoshop or any of those simple online programs for preparing photobooks.
In the "Book Settings" I set the same resolution as I use for printing by Blurb-like printing companies, e.g., 400ppi/dpi.
Of course, the "solution" would be to set much higher ppi in the "Book Settings". But then propably the export sharpening does not work properly.
Do you observe the same behavior? How do you solve it?
    Thanks a lot!

    Yes, same here.

  • How can I turn off the price display in the Book module?

I would love to use the book module to design wedding albums with my clients, but with my cost splashed all over the screen I can only imagine the negotiations that will happen over the price I'll be charging them!  What I need is to be able display the client price,  something allowing a mark-up percentage would be great, however for now I would be happy just to turn it off.

John, with all due respect (and I do have the utmost respect for your opinion and your contributions here and elsewhere) that just doesn't stand the litmus test. Could you please pont out another Adobe authored application that is so restrictive as to what can be exported. Or so restrictive as to document size and customization to the point where I must either use an outside application or wait patiently for vendors "to come on board" in order to achieve my desired customization? Other than Flash of course ... even then Adobe has gone to great lengths of late to make output from that app much more versatile with conversion options to other devices.
Let's experiment with the other modules and see if your information about Adobe's methods for the Book module holds water:
    Develop Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Nikon (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other camera makers to come on board."
    Print Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Epson (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other printer manufacturers to come on board."
    Web Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Internet Explorer (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other internet browser developers to come on board."
    Slideshow Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with WMV (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other video file options to come on board."
As I have shared elsewhere, when I want to design a custom size for a book in Aperture 3, I simply select Custom, type in the dimensions and margin sizes and procede to lay out the book. Once completed, I can export the book to the favored vendor (Which could be Blurb for all I know), export to PDF, Export the pages or spreads to TIFF or JPEG ... and all this in one of those terrible restrictive, limiting and "closed" Apple software options ...
I'm sorry, but the Book module in it's current form is almost a total non-feature for many users. Adobe simply got it wrong. I expected much more from them and was willing to pay for it. Half-measures are not sollutions. Unfortunately for Adobe, I only invest in sollutions not more workarounds.

  • I cannot export my saved book to pdf or jpeg or blurb

i cannot export my saved book to pdf or jpeg or blurb. Nothing works. If i start a new book , then it works but i would have to redo the entire layout.
Anyone have the same problem or/and anyone could help?
    Thank you

Yes i do use LR4.3 .Idid upgrade to L4 from L3 , only because the book feature,to switch from blurb to PDF. I do use mostly my own images or combination of photo montage, but sometimes color backgrounds or lightroom graphics.
I just reinstalled all my backgrounds and it seems like to work now.No explaination of what went wron (or what is wrong) as i am used to lightroom .May the fact that i am tweeking the layout (using the print layout) or the padding feature quite a bit but that's what the software is supposed to do.

  • Text in the Book Module of Lightroom 4

To add text to the Book Module, you can olny paste, meaning that you have to have a separate word processor. Why can't the Text Tool of photoshop be added to the Book Module?
Once I added text to the Book, I could no copy a complete paragraph, I was allowed to copy one line at a time.
This is just feeddback from a few moments with the Beta version of LR4.

  • I am having trouble typing text in the book module in Lightroom 4.3

Hi, I am trying to create a book in the "book module" in Lightroom 4.3. Putting pictures in the picture containers doesn't seem to be a problem, but when I try to type in text into the text containers it will not let me.  I click onto an empty text container, it highlights, then I cannot get a cursor to appear and it will not let me type in text. I have watched several videos now on making books in the book module and all they do is click on the text container and start typing, it looks like it should be easy. Please help, thanks

  • Use of a pic with transparency in the book module and keep the transparency?

    Hi.
Let's see if I can explain my question, I'm not an experienced user of either PS or LR (and not in the english language either)
I have edited a picture in PS and cut out a part of it and pasted the part in a new layer and then set the opacity of the background to 0%.
Then I saved the pic in PSD format and imported it to LR to be used in the book module. When I then use the pic and attache it to the book the pic have a white background.
What I want is that only the cut out part is shown in the book and the rest of the area of the picture frame is in the same color as the color of the pages (in my case light yellow).
Is it possible to do what I want to do and if it is, how do I do?

The HEX FEEAAF in PS have a perfect match (for my eyes) to HEX FDEA9E in LR, the difference might indicate that I'm not using ProPhoto RGB working space inside PS. How do I check this (or how do I open a new Background with this setting)?
I get the same results when using an sRGB color profile image. Notice the LR background color at the Top and Bottom of the page below is slightly different than the image file. Both PS and LR Backgrounds were set to FEEAAF, so we have confirmed this is the issue!
When you open an image inside PS Using 'Edit in PS' from LR it uses your LR 'External Editing' Preferences settings. Set your LR's Preferences as below:
If you are using File> Open from inside PS you can check the file's color profile using Edit> Convert To Profile and select 'Destination Space' >RGB > ProPhoto RGB. In the image file used below it is already using ProPhoto RGB (i.e. Source Space).
Your PS Working Color Space should be set to ProPhoto RGB with warnings enabled using Edit> Color Settings as shown below from inside PS.
