Exporting in vertical 1280x720

Hi, I have some HD video in 1440x1080 and I need to get it exported in vertical 1280x720. The camera was on it's side (on purpose)! But this was the upload instructions from the site it's going too.
What's the best way to go about this?
Many thanks

There is a way to work with nonstandard frame sizes in FCP X, as is detailed here:
http://library.creativecow.net/articles/payton_t/FCPX_Custom-Resolution-Timeline s/video-tutorial
You basically have to generate a clip (really, it can be anything) with the desired size, then import it into FCP X.
You open such a clip in its own timeline (control-click, "Open in Timeline") and edit your content into it.
Don't create a project, just edit inside the clip's timeline and export from there. Projects can't have arbitrary sizes, but clips can.

  • Export in HD 1280x720 16:9 without letterbox

I use a Canon HG20 and want to fit YouTube's widescreen with no letterbox but I can't seem to export in HD without a letterbox. A tutorial video said to use these settings
Key frames - Every 30 frames
    Data rate - Restrict to 1800 kbits/sec
    Dimensions - HD 1280x720 16:9
    Deinterlace source video
This is what I use, but there's a letterbox and there isn't supposed to be. It messes up the dimensions very much. How can I export with no letterbox?

AHA! That would be your problem. The actual clip is 1440x1080, but you were using a 720x480 DV-NTSC sequence. When HD media is placed in a SD sequence, it is scaled down and letterboxes are added.
Here's what you have to do:
    1. Select the sequence in the browser.
    2. Go to +Sequence > Settings > Load Sequence Preset > Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i60+. Select it and click OK.
    3. Now you drag your 1440x1080 footage to the sequence and edit, etc.
    4. Export using the 1280x720 settings described above.
Unless I am very much mistaken, this should fix your problem.

  • Can't export anything except 1280x720

I'm using FCP 6 and have created a 720x480 timeline on which I've edited a 3-minute video. The problem is no matter what setting I select to export a mov file, it exports at 1280x720. I can't use Compressor because I need a mov file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

IN FCP, go to the menu File > Export > QuickTime Movie . . . and when the export dialog box opens, make sure  your settings are set to Current Settings and you have Make Movie Self-Contained checked.
Export your movie. Open the movie in QuickTime 7 and once it is open, go the menu Windows > Show Movie Inspector. Look at the Normal Size, not the Current Size and see what the actual exported file dimension are.

  • JPEG Export has vertical lines through it?

    Hello.
I was under the impression this bug (export to JPG or TIFF from RAW creating vertical lines)was already fixed with Aperture v 1.5.1?
If so, this may be another bug.
I am running Aperture 1.5.1 on a Mac Book Pro C2D, my camera is a Canon 30D and that's really it.
    Any ideas?

  • I import in HD and Export in HD 1280x720 and Use the IDVD burner How do I get the best quality? It seems to be a generation down on quality.

Need help with getting best quality for DVD's.

The best quality you can get is to first understand that the biggest frame you can play back using a DVD player is 720x480. So no matter how big the image is going into iDVD it is throwing away some information to get it all to fit 720x480. Your best option then is go to Share Menu > Media Browser... Then choose the Large size.
Open iDVD and find your video project by clicking on the Media button in the iDVD lower right hand corner. Then above that there's the media browser window with the Movies button on the right hand side. Click Movies button and browse for your project under the iMovie star icon.
Drag that project into a clip and burn the project to a DVD-R.

  • Vertical Lines on Export

I know this has been covered as I am pretty sure I read about it on here but I couldn't find anything anywhere when searching..
I have exported using compressor to mpeg2 using my custom settings which i have used on 2 other sequences but this one just isn't happy and displays horizintal lines accross the screen.
    Any solutions?
    Cheers!

Your Sequence is 1680x988 (1.0), your export setting is 1280x720...
they do not match, so it fills with black.
If you want to export 1280x720 from this Sequence,
go to the 'Source' tab, and use the crop tools to remove the black:

  • IMovie 6 HD - Export Movie Size Question

There is a confusing list of movie export size options that I need to get your clarification about. Some of the selections seem to be similar.
To see what I am referring to go into iMovie HD 6, under the SHARE menu, go to Save Movie For: Expert Settings Export Settings > Select Movie to QuickTime Movie (then hit the options tab to the right > Under the Video Section, select SIZE - note the Export Size Settings - DImensions drop down list. Note there are two sections. The last two items in the top section listed are (exactly worded as) 1280 x 720 HD and 1920 X 1080 HD. In the bottom section the last three entries are HD 1280 x 720 16:9, HD 1440 x 1080 16:9 and HD 1920 x 1080 16:9. What's the difference, for example, between the 1280 x 780 HD and the bottom one HD 1280 x 780 16:9? I ask because my HD camcorder movie footage (shot at 1080i, 29.97, 16:9) with an HV30 exports smooth at 1280x720 HD but jerky at HD 1280 x 780 16:9. They sound the same, but one is jerky and one smooth.
The other question I have is 1440x1040 is 4:3 ratio. But it exports at 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't understand why.

    Donna:
While I have a lot of video editing experience with an SD digital camcorder, the Canon HV30 HDV cam is new to me. So I am experimenting. That said, footage that will be shot will end up in a couple of places. Some of it will be passed onto my company's web master for posting to the web in some kind of Flash video format. Other video will be used in Keynote presentations as full screen video clips. Others will be used as source video for creating 4x3 SD clips for PowerPoint on a PC by others. So, the video will be used in different formats. (In what format to shoot is another question, but I have concluded (I hope correctly) that I should just shoot HDV 1080i since it seems to be the easiest to deal with for uploading to iMovie6 HD.)
The purpose of my inquiry was to determine what the various selections are used for and what they do. Sometimes the video is jerky, sometimes an identical movie size is smooth (but must be rendered or processed differently). I was only trying to determine why there appeared to be repetative choices in the list of movie sizes as I mentioned in my original post. To be blunt, iMovie 6 HD documentation is spotty at best. The O"Reilly books don't cover the hard parts.

  • EXport Jitter for H.264

I am hoping someone can help because I am baffled...
I create a project in CS5 using P2 footage shot from an HVX200 camera - 1280x720 - 29.97fps. The footage appears as 960x720 in project.
I finished the project and hit File-Export-Media.
In the encoder, I select H.264 - Preset: HDTV 720p High Quality 29.97fps. The output matches the source as 1280x720 Progressive VBR, 1 pass.
I hit export and once it completes I open the mp4 in QT. It is jittery. Never plays right. I open up the movie properties in QT and see H.264, 1280x720, but I also see a data bit rate which is not normally there.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong - why this file does not play right.  Just for the hell of it, I exported as FLV 1280x720 and itr was perfect - no jitter.
    Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks, Steve

Uninstalling is not the answer to me. I recently completed another project where the footage was shot on an Sony XD Cam and imported as 1440x1080. I exported the exact same way with h.264 – same settings and it plays perfect on QT. I cannot understand why this current project does not. These h.264 videos are being sent to clients and QT and Window Media is what they have to view them. If this doesn’t work, I have to send Flash which looks great through the Adobe Media Player.

  • Quicktime export failed - out of memory

After I managed to open AVCHD (MTS) movies with AE CS4 I just tried to export a 2 min movie. I export as H264 1280x720.
I keep getting this error "quicktime export failed - out of memory"
It also happend when using SD movies
I have 2GB ram and a dual core inter E6550.
Does anyone encountered such problem ?

Are you rendering and exporting using the render queue, or are you using the Export command in the File menu? You should almost always use the render queue.
    See
"Rendering and exporting movies using QuickTime components" and
    "About rendering and exporting".

  • Low quality export for stop motion animation stills from Canon 5D Mark ii

Thank you very much beforehand to anyone who is willing to look through this issue, it's been a long and frustrating process so far...
I am attempting to put together a stop motion animation in Final Cut Express but my exports are always either low quality, or medium quality and stretched. I am shooting on a Canon 5D Mark ii set to take pictures at 21M 5616x3744 [999] (though I'm not entirely sure what the 21M or 999 mean).
When I first assembled my stills (unedited or altered in any way) and exported, it looked like this:
A relatively drastic loss in colour and quality. This was achieved exporting through quicktime conversion using the following settings:
    Compression Type: H.264
    Compressor Quality: Best
    Size: 1920x1080 HD
    Preserve aspect ratio using: Crop
    Deinterlace source video: unchecked
Unhappy with the result, I went through hours of testing and researching which only yielded a result after I discovered the control-Q Easy Setup menu. I tried setting up as an apple intermediate codec using HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 at 29.97 fps. I kept the export settings the same as above, but knowing that I was now working with a canvas that keeps to the 16:9 proportions, I tried cropping one of my stills in photoshop to fit that 16:9 ratio.
I then imported my 16:9 cropped still and an unedited JPEG version from my camera and exported the resulting 10 second video. The result was better quality, but still noticeably degraded from the original stills. More importantly, both the cropped 16:9 and the unedited JPEG were stretched out of proportion as seen below (16:9 version):
Of course I forgot to note the original settings on Easy Setup so I can't figure out how to get back to the original lower quality, yet undistorted image (not that I want to do that). I tried numerous different sizes for the export including changing the Crop (when necessary) setting to letterbox. Nothing worked.
The canvas, however, immediately looked 100% better after switching the Easy Setup to HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 at 29.97 fps. It held the improved quality without distorting the image:
I'm not sure if there's any hope of having a great image quality, but at very least I would like to be able to export at the decent quality of the second screenshot without the stretching and cropping.
I need to have this resolved ASAP for work, I've already wasted too much time here. Any help is so appreciated, I'll be active in providing whatever additional information that I can to responders, though please keep in mind that I'm relatively new to all this, I don't know where to find everything

I've decided just to try to get back to the export that I showed in the first screenshot. That result came before I started tampering with the Easy Setup. Like I said, when I changed the setup the canvas quality improved drastically and the dimensions seemed to fit much better, but the export was vertically stretched and cropped. I just reset my FCE settings and it turns out the default setup is DV-NTSC, but it's giving me a terrible quality still...
I just want to get back to that second screenshot's quality.. Could someone suggest what I should switch the easy setup to for importing stills from my Canon 5D Mark ii to yield the right results?

  • Exporting Cartoon animation to HD question

If I make an animation with the stage size of 640x360 which is 16:9 and then when I export it to 1280x720 HD do I lose quality? It seems like it degrades a small amount. Would I get a higher quality outtput if I made the screen size 1280x720 to start? The artwork is vector. I export with the animation settings at 30 fps and the keyframe set at automatic using quicktime. I'm just trying to figure out the best setting for exporting Flash cartoon animation to video for use on YouTube or video.
    thanks,
    Frank

You're always better off starting at your maximum desired target and scaling down from there. You do need to keep line thickness large enough to reduce safely however.
On the inverse, if you increase the size before export then expect that scale to evenly affect some objects in ways you may not desire, like stroke thickness. It depends where the artwork originates and what format it really is, like a smart object or a flash vector or imported EPS, etc etc. Text is always a challenge as well because it looks fine on a smaller size but can get undesirably large when upscaling (although it will render crisp).
Ultimately keeping strokes away from the 1px thickness and exporting to HD would be advisable. 1280x720 upscales to 1920x1080 fairly well, especially with vector, and text translates fairly well.

  • Can't modify image dimensions in flash web export

I need some help fixing an issue that I guess isn't a bug, it's just not what I want my output to look like.
When I export the basic flash web gallery with a mixture of vertical and horizontal oriented images, the default settings render my vertical images to the same height as the horizontals, ie if a horizontal image ends up as 800x500 (width x height) the vertical ones all come out 500 high, making them a very tiny 500x300 (or whatever). As I say, this seems to be what it's supposed to do, I just don't like it! It's a pet peeve of mine that monitor aspect ratios oblige us to display portrait smaller than landscape, and I'm determined to make the most of what little space there is.
I've tried messing with the style.xml settings, the module advanced options (which are the same thing AFAICS) and trawled the net all afternoon to find a way to get vertical image height to fill the available stage area height. I have noticed that LR seems to export from the Develop module fine (in this respect) if I set the export dimensions square, so setting 800x800 forces an images longest edge to 800px, ie the same size irrespective of image orientation. But because there's no equivalent option in the Web module (just large, small, etc) this little trick isn't possible. Am I explaining this clearly enough? By my reckoning, editing the xml file is too late: the web module has already exported the vertical images with the "wrong" long-edge dimensions.
Surely there's a way to force web output to a orientation-independent common size? Or do I have to export verticals and horzontals separately? The simpleviewer engines all manage this just fine, so I'm hopeful there's a simple workaround. I still have a couple of days (and most of my hair) left before I need to upload this stuff & would sincerely appreciate some help!
    Running LR 2.3 on a MacBook / 10.5.6.
    Thanks for reading.
    Mick.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think this has anything to do with fixed size galleries. As I say, the fact that Simpleviewer flash output doesn't constrain the height of vertical images to that of the horizontal ones suggests that it's not even a quirk with flash engines, it's something peculiar to LR Flash Gallery code. I suspect it's something missing from the <mediaPosition> section, but I'm not sure exactly what...
The Simpleviewer gallery.xml usually gives you this sort of parameter:
    maxImageWidth="800" maxImageHeight="800"
and you get vertical images scaled to the max height of the stage (even if it's never quite 800px) – that's all I'm looking to hack the LR Flash Gallery xml with. I want to know why, when I enter
    height="800.00" width="800.00"
in the <mediaPosition> section of the style.xml, I end up with the height at 600 or less, regardless of stage space.
Looking at my output sizes, LR appears to generate a set height for all images, scaling the width to fit, but not the other way around. Cue exasperation.
There has to be a way to do it. Since I posted the question I've found a couple of things. First, it is possible to force a set image height, but you also need to set a fixed image position. The default xml code is usually somerhing like
    <mediaPosition videoScale="upDown" positionType="auto" fitAtStart="true" height="264.00" imageScale="fitToScreen" x="0.00" y="0.00" width="360.00"/>
but if you change the positionType, imageScale and fitAtStart fields, giving the image area a fixed loaction (x and y coordinates) it's possible, with a load of messing on, to generate a slideshow which behaves the way I want, but the thumbnail view remains the same:
    <mediaPosition videoScale="upDown" positionType="fixed" fitAtStart="false" height="770.00" imageScale="fixed" x="180.00" y="90.00" width="960.00"/>
This might even be ok, but it behaves differenty on different monitors due to varying aspect ratios, so it's no good. I feel like I'm 'close but no cigar' here. If anyone knows better I'd love to hear it.
I also found a LR plugin that looks like it might get close enough to the LR Flash output that I want, and as it's just $35 I might have to go for it: http://slideshowpro.net/products/slideshowpro/slideshowpro_for_lightroom
I'd still much rather stick with the original engine, if anyone can point me to a solution.
    Thanks
    Mick

  • Adobe media encoder exports look pixelated and has artifacts.

    Hello all,
For the past week we've been having terriable looking videos after compressing them with premiere pro 2014 or AME CC 2014. I though it might be a key framing issue at first. When we look at the final product we have areas where pixilation and artifacting show. We film on canon c500 so we edit with mxc files. We export out with the Youtube settings and adjust them manually. We have 2 areas we export for. 1280x720 at 4mbps and 1920x1080 at 10 to 15mps. We have never had this bad of looking video before we switched to cc2014. I work on Mac OS X 10.9.4 with a 6 core inter Xeon 32GB memory and we have the Kona LHi AJA graphics card.
Here is an example of what we are getting.
    test2.mp4 - Box
If you look at around 3 seconds the whole screen will pixalate and you'll see artifacts for about 10 frames. It's really bad in my opinion and we can't display this. I called Adobe for support and after 2 hours they only trashed my preferences and took my complaint. That's all the help I've gotten so far.
Any help will be very appreciated.
    thanks for you're time.

  • Vertical Clips Distorted in iMovie--How Can I Avoid the Distortion???

I have a number of vertical clips (.mov) that I would like to include in a movie with the majority of clips which are horizontal. Although the vertical clips play fine (if I just play them on my computer), they become distorted when I import them into iMovie. iMovie changes their aspect ratio rather than scales them down to fit (leaving black bars on the left and right).
Any ideas on what I can do to keep the original aspect ration with vertical orientation so that everyone in the movie does not look short and fat (the result of the distortion).
    Thanks for your help.

David pointed to some excellent sites to help explain masks. QuickTime lets you do lots of things with masks, so it's not surprising your task is a bit different than most I saw there. To complicate matters, the QuickTime 7 user interface is different than the QT interface shown in those sites.
Technically, a mask allows you to remove a portion of the video image. That's not exactly your goal if I understand it. Instead, you want to add to the image to prevent iMovie from resizing your vertically-shaped video when you import it. You want to make your video the normal size and shape so iMovie won't resize it, right?
To do that, you need to place your vertical video in front of a black background that's the "proper" size. Essentially, you need to build a video sandwich that's the proper size for iMovie. When iMovie imports this video sandwich, it will accept it "as is" instead of resizing it. Then your video will play vertically in iMovie against a black background.
    Here's how:
(This requires QuickTime Pro. These instructions are for QuickTime 7.):
    • In any graphics program, create a black image that's 640x480. Save it as a PICT. (I will assume your video is smaller than 640x480. If it's not, please say.)
    • In the Finder, make a duplicate of your vertical movie.
    • Open the duplicate in QuickTime Pro. From now on, we'll refer to this as "Vertical Movie".
    • Open the PICT in QT Pro. Select Edit > Copy. Close the PICT. The black picture is now on the Mac Clipboard.
    • Activate the Vertical Movie window. Choose Edit > Select All.
    • To add the black background to Vertical Movie, choose Edit > Add To Selection and Scale. That Pastes the PICT as a new layer which plays exactly the same duration as the current selection in the movie. (That's why we Selected All.)
    • The black layer now covers the video so you can't see it, and the playhead is at the end of the movie.
    • Move the playhead to the start of the movie.
    • To be able to see the video, we need to bring it forward in front of the black layer. To do that, choose Window > Show Movie Properties. This window shows the properties of each track in the movie, including Video Track 1 (your vertical video) and Video Track 2 (the black layer).
    • Click on "Video Track 1". Click on the "Visual Settings" tab below the track list.
    • At the bottom of the window change the Layer setting by clicking on the DOWN arrow just right of the Layer textbox. You want to make the Layer number smaller. -2 will probably do it. When the layer is correct, the video layer will appear. (If it doesn't appear, keep fiddling with the Layer until it does.)
    • If the video layer isn't centered against the black background, change its Offset settings so it is centered.
    • Save Vertical Movie. You've built your sandwich.
    • To make a movie iMovie will love, export the Vertical Movie sandwich to a DV Stream. To do that, choose File > Export. In the top popUp menu (at the bottom of the window) choose "Movie to DV Stream". In the bottom popUp, choose "DV NTSC 48 kHz". Assign a name and Save.
(Exporting "flattens" the movie so the vertical video and the black background merge into a single layer.)
    • Import the DV Stream to iMovie.

  • Small black bars on the top and bottom on video after exporting?

I'm using 1280x720 video footage in Adobe Premiere. The problem is, whenever I export my finished project as 1280x720, the newly rendered file has small black bars on the top and bottom.
These black bars are not there in the Premiere preview, only after the project is rendered.
The video file created after export is still 1280x720(16:9).
Is there any way to get rid of these black bars, as they are quite irritating because I make youtube videos regularly.
