Exporting Pop-up Menu to Dreamwaver?

I am having trouble getting a pop-up menu (more specifically
a drop down menu) that I created in Fireworks to work in
Dreamweaver. I am exporting it as a Dreamweaver Library file and
I'm thinking this may not be correct. None of my menus are showing
up when I roll over the buttons.
I though I read somewhere that Dreamweaver and Fireworks have
a compatability problem with these.
Any suggestions?

Which version of FW are you using?
It's very possible to do this, but you need to a) understand
FW menus and
how they work, b) understand DW Library items and how they
work.
Unfortunately if you meet criteria (a) and (b) you know
enough to know that
you wouldn't use either on a dare!
Rather than the simply awful FW menu, use something that
works reliably -
Check the uberlink and MacFly tutorials at PVII -
http://www.projectseven.com/
and the Navbar tutorial/articles at Thierry's place
http://tjkdesign.com/articles/dropdown/
Or this one (more recent article):
http://tjkdesign.com/articles/Pure_CSS_Dropdown_Menus.asp
Or to get it done fast, go here -
http://www.projectseven.com/tutorials/navigation/auto_hide/index.htm
Rather than a design-time tool like Library items, use
Server-side includes.
Any other bubbles I can burst for you? 8)

Yes. Create the style you want to use and save it to the
    Styles panel.
With the new style selected, open the Styles panel menu and
    choose
Export styles. Export to the Fireworks Nav Menu folder. On my
    machine
    that's located at
    C:\Documents and Settings\Linda Rathgeber\Application
    Data\Macromedia\Fireworks 8\Nav Menu
Once you have saved the new style there, it will appear in
    the Image >
Styles selections for the pop-up menus.

    > 3. How do I export a rollover in fireworks?
    From the Help files:
    Exporting a sliced document-
By default, when you export a sliced Fireworks document, an
    HTML file
and associated images are exported. The exported HTML file
    can be viewed
in a web browser or imported into other applications for
    further editing.
Before export, be sure you have the appropriate HTML style
    selected in
the HTML Setup dialog box. For more information, see Setting
    HTML export
    options.
    Select File > Export.
Navigate to the desired folder on your hard drive.
Select HTML and Images from the Export pop-up menu.
Type a filename in the File Name (Windows) or Save As
    (Macintosh) box.
Select Export HTML File from the HTML pop-up menu.
Select Export Slices from the Slices pop-up menu.
(Optional) Select Put Images in Subfolder.
    Click Export.
The files Fireworks exported appear on your hard disk. Images
    and an
HTML file are generated in the location you specified in the
    Export
    dialog box.
For more information about the options available in the
    Export dialog
box when HTML and Images is selected as the file type, see
    Exporting
    Fireworks HTML.

  • Pop-up menu trouble!

I am learning to create a website using dreamweaver, fireworks and photoshop. I created a sample website using these tools. Initially I created a layout in photoshop followed by web slices in fireworks. Later I exported my work in dreamweaver to complete the website. I saved my layout as a template so that any changes get updated automatically in all pages. To add a rollover image menu, pop-up/drop-down menu in template, I switched back to fireworks within dreamweaver. I created rollover image menu successfully and even drop-down too. It worked fine in fireworks preview window. I finished my editing in fireworks and switched back to dreamweaver and updated the changes in template. when I previewed that template, the rollover and pop-up menu  worked fine on all menu item(on mouse over). when i clicked a menu item/page /link, it follows to the page correctly and rollover worked still  fine and smooth but pop-up menu failed as if i never created one. I tried reloading the page but it failed.
Again I loaded a preview from template and it worked. when I click any menu, it failed. But the rollover works well. I tried to repeat my steps from beginning and the result is the same.
I tried for preview from individual pages, no pop-up emerged. Later I observed that pop-up javascript is located in all pages but never works on execution. It works only in the template from which I created all other pages but it still fails on clicking other links in same template preview. Please help me. This stopped me from moving to next lessons.

    Please elaborate
    which version of Dreamweaver

This will place us on the same footing and enable us to help you.

  • I want to create an external video widget with iAd. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.

i want to create an external video widget with iAd to use in an iBook. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.
    hope someone can help!

May have something to do with whether or not the URL can be reached while building your widget.  I've got a video on the web. When I enter the URL into the field for the video object and click to another field,  the URL is replaced with some text indicating that it is accessing the video then updates itself to displaying just the name of the video file.
It shows just fine in preview and I can see the full path to the video when I export the widget so it should work for you.
Is the video accessible from your Mac while you're laying out your widget?

  • Here's a Pop-up Menu Challenge/Issue

    Peace.
I have read dozens of posts on using dreamweaver and fireworks to export various symbols, objects, and pop-ups. Getting the pop-up menu to work in DW is to have javascrit code in the header and body portion of the page. Also, the difference between browsers FF and IE, popup menus not working properly .
I have managed to work through most of these problems, including the popup alignment of X,Y parameters, to get them to show up properly (what a nightmare for an intermediate)! If I only knew how to use CSS?
Anyway, I finally got my pop-ups to work the way I want, but ONLY in IE, not in FF.
The "challenge" is that two of my pop-up menus work on FF and the others don't? See images at http://www.christianacademyonline.org/testnew/index.html
I have done my best to scrutinize the script (java/mm_loads,images, etc) and I can't find the problem. The two images that work have two diffent codes, probably (on_click), because I was doing what I could to make it work..
I need more eyes to help find my script problem...I'm almost complete, but missing something!
    Thanks Guys!
    Deke D.

I don't get any pop-ups anywhere nor any menus (if there are supposed to be some). The code is rather messy, also, with all those on-the-fly definitions for styles and endlessly long JavaScript actions. Quite possible that the links override one another. Not to ruin your day, but I'd definitely start from scratch with an empty page and a clean style sheet for the various elements. IMO that's the only way to get this working properly.

  • Pop-up menue created by Fireworks 8 does not work well in Dreamweaver 8

    Hi there,
I have experienced some strange behaviour of Dreamweaver 8
with respect to am enuebar with pop-up-Menue-HTML created by
Fireworks 8. Having designed the pop-up menue in Fireworks 8 all
works fine if you view it through Firewoks. After having exported
the XHTML-Code for Dreamweaver in a file all continues to work fine
if you view it with IE 7.
When imported to Dreamweaver as Fireworks-HTML blue boxes
were shown around the bar and the pop-menue appears with blue boxes
around. Viewing this stuff by pressing F12 in Dreamweaver shows up
the page in the browser with the menue bar and all the submenues (I
cant stand it anymore). I tried a lot of things but I failed. Help
    would be appreciated very much.

  • Help inserting Fireworks pop-up menu into Dreamweaver

I wonder if anyone can help me with pop-up menu insertion
process. I create the menu in Fireworks and export it to
Dreamweaver. I place the menu in a fresh test document and it works
perfectly every time, but when I go through the exact same series
of steps in my real page, I get a broken image icon. I just can't
understand why the path is fine one way, yet gets lost in the
shuffle the other way. The only two differences I can think of are
where in the site folder the test page is saved, as opposed to
where the real (archive) page is stored, and the fact that the
archive page already has rows and columns and cells, where the
fresh test page has just one basic table and nothing else at all. I
even tried manipulating the code directly to make the sections in
question identical, and even that doesn't do it. As far as I could
see, my actual working site page (which won't accept the insertion)
had one extra bit of code, namely
    <td colspan="4"
Everything else seems to be the same.
I am losing my sanity over this!

Would it be too late to direct you to another menu approach
    altogether? The
FW pop-up menus are not the sharpest knife in the drawer -

  • Pop-up menu cellspacing in IE but not Firefox

I created a website a while back using Dreamweaver and managed to install the header I created in Fireworks CS3 with no problem, however I am redesigning the site and when I place my header in, there appears to be cellspacing in my pop-up menu, but only with Internet Explorer and not with Firefox.  When I went to export the header, since I wasn't using Dreamweaver to write it in, I chose the style as "generic html", and made sure there was no Cell spacing. I'd appreciate any feedback I can get.

Well, you have a number of errors that you'll need to address.
You have two body tags, and you can only have one. This may be the problem.
    You have a <script language="JavaScript"> declaration and it should be <script type="text/javascript">
You have <center> tags inside <a href...></a> elements and that is not correct.
You have a <valign="top"> tag, and that is an attibute, not a tag.
Where you have <h1 style="font-family:Times New Roman; color:#6F0101; font-size:26;"> won't work, because font names that have spaces in them must be enclosed in quotation marks. You would be better off defining a class for your h1s.
There's a nifty add-on for Firefox that really helps to show you some things in your code. It's called Firebug. Search for it with Google and it's easy to install. I also have the HTML Tidy add-on. HTML Tidy shows me warnings and errors. Firebug shows the structure of the code and also the inheritance of the CSS. In this case, I think you may be inheriting some padding or margin from your default.css once you insert your header into the body.
Here's what I recommend you do:
    1) Fix up your Fireworks file to name all your images. For example, the images in your menu that have "Home" written in them should be home.gif and home-ov.gif, (or similar, with "ov" indicating "over") not headermenu_r2_c1.gif and headermenu_r2_c1_f2.gif. Likewise, in the code it should have a name of "home." It will make your code so much easier to read and maintain.
    2) Install the HTML Tidy and Firebug add-ons to Firefox. Or, you can use the W3C code validator. Fix the errors in your code.
    3) Clean up your CSS and put all your CSS in one file. Rename those awful Fireworks names to something more memorable. Make sure you know exactly what is what and where everything is. That way, you'll see where attributes might be being inherited.
If you want a good book for HTML and CSS, I like Elizabeth Castro's HTML for the World Wide Web. It's in the 6th edition, now. I recently picked up HTML Utopia: Designing Without Tables Using CSS and I find that it is a nice lead-in to designing layouts with CSS.
All that said, Nadia is right and the Fireworks menus are not so great. They aren't really very robust and (as you've experienced) they're difficult to maintain and troubleshoot. Here are two sites that have professional menu plug-ins for Dreamweaver (not Fireworks):
    Pluginlab Limited
    Project Seven
The Project Seven menus are regularly recommended, but I have no personal experience with either of them. Either one will give you a better experience with less frustration. While they are not free, they'll save you quite a bit of time.
    Good luck!

  • How to add a button on a pop up menu ?

I have designed my Site on FW and then exported to DW.
Everyting was fine, but now my client asked me to add a new option
in the pop up menu that I already have built. MY QUESTION is: Am I
supposed to add the new option in FW, and then re-export the file
to DW ? because i f so.. I have to update many many code then...
Isn't there any way to edit my popup menu through DW only ??
please, any helo will be appreciated !
    thanx a lot,

First mistake was creating the site in FW. You will probably
have to create the button in FW and re-export to all of your pages.
Get some tutorials on CSS and HTML coding. Then put your site
together in Dreamweaver. Use FW to create images, graphics and even
buttons but use them in HTML with CSS. Then adding new buttons and
    links will be a snap.
Also look into SSI (Server Side Includes) so you can add one
button to one file and have all your pages update with the new link
    automatically.
These guys have some really great tutorials (and free and
    commercial extensions).

  • Unable to create image-based pop-up menu

Working in FW MX (yes, I know I'm behind the times!).
Created a pop-up menu; want to experiment with image-based
options, rather than html. When I choose IMAGE on the Appearance
tab of the pop-up editor, no styles are available in the style
choosers for up/over states. (And there ARE styles in the
assets--including some that I've just created.) Furthermore, when I
click through the NEXT buttons to DONE, then return to edit this
pop-up menu, it's defaulted back to html. Image just won't stick.
The documentation says this should be simple and
straightforward, but it ain't. I've spent several hours struggling
    with this.

Okay, on the suggestion of one tech support person, I logged
in as a different Windows user. Whaddaya know, the style options
were there! However, when the file is exported, all I get is the
html version, no image/style-based popup. Same when I preview it in
browser (IE7, FireFox). But the preview in the pop-up editor does
show the styles applied--they just don't make it to publication for
    some reason.

  • Pop-up menu - Arrow Image for submenu doesn't appear in DW/IE

    Hello all,
I created a pop-up menu with submenus in Fireworks MX 2004
=> this is displayed fine in a preview in FW.
I then exported this image and html files to a subdir within
my website. I then used the following to insert it into my template
    file:
Insert => Image => Fireworks HTML => selected the
    html file exported in FW.
My problem is, when I try to preview the page in IE (via DW
MX 2004), the pop-up menu and submenus are all ok....BUT...
the small arrow (image) to link between the First menu level
and the second submenu doesn't appear -> instead the generic
image appears (as in file not found). Looking at the code on the
template page, the file is "arrows.gif" and the path looks ok in
    the file.
Note that MM_menu.js and the arrows.gif and all other
exported files (from FW) are in the same directory.
    mm_menu_0510135640_0.childMenuIcon="../images/photogallery/arrows.gif";
It seems as though the path for the arrows.gif isn't right -
    any ideas where?

  • Add custom menu styles to the Pop-up Menu Editor

I have tried using the instructions that Adobe gives me to do this but it doesn't work. They tell me to save a style library in the "Menu Bars" folder. I searched my computer and I only have one Menu Bars folder. The path is Adobe Fireworks CS5/Configuration/Common Library/Menu Bars. All of the files in there are .png not .stl. files.
I want to have a custom parchment background for my pop-up menu. Has anyone done this and can you please tell me how to do it on a Mac.
    Thanks,

Frankly, I wouldn't waste my time. The pop up menus in FW are old code and a real mess to deal with once the menu has been exported. There are far better resources out there, from the Spry menus in DW, to commerical products from Project Seven.

  • Problem with pop up menu created in fireworks

I have created a banner with buttons and added a pop up menu to them.
    They work perfectly with-in Fireworks.
I then export page to dreamweaver and both banner and buttons display properly but I cannot get pop up menu to show at all.
I want to choose each menu and make the links with-in dreamweaver but cannot get pop up top show.

AlSO I AM STILL LEARNING SO IF YOU COULD KEEP IT AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

HELLO AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. I HAVE CREATED A QUICK BANNER WHICH IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE I WANT TO CREATE. WHEN I VIEW THESE IN PREVIEW IN A WEB BROWSER FROM FIREWORKS THEY WORK PERFECTLY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I DON'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO MOVE THIS PAGE TO DREAM WEAVER AND HAVE IT DISPLAY THE POP UP MENUS. THEY WILL SHOW AS AN IMAGE AS IT IS SEEN HERE BUT WILL NOT DROP DOWN IN PREVIEW BROWSER IN DREAM WEAVER. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SELECT THE INDIVIDUAL LISTS IN THE DROP DOWN MENU AND CREATE LINKS TO VARIOUS PAGES WITH-IN MY SITE IN DREAM WEAVER. IT MAY BE THE CASE THAT I AM NOT EXPORTING IT PROPERLY OR SAVING  IT CORRECTLY.

  • Pop Up Menu Doesn't Appear

Hi, I put together a navbar in Fireworks and added a 6 item
vertical pop up menu to one of the buttons. I used the advice from
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/fw8_popups.html
I did it once and it worked fine, then had to redo it in
Fireworks and re-exported it to DW based on the instructions above.
Now the pop up menu won't appear when I preview the revised webpage
that includes the new navbar. When I preview the navbar in
Fireworks or DW everything's fine so I seem to have built it
correctly in FW. The problem seems to just be when I add it into
the webpage in DW. I'm using Insert > Image Objects >
Fireworks HTML and select the htm file that was created by the
export but it won't work!! I get the proper rollovers for all the
buttons but not for the one with the pop up and no pop ups at all.
Also, when I insert it into the webpage in DW design view I get the
buttons randomly separated by spaces across the cell (but the
positioning is fine when previewed) and all of the pop up submenu
items appear below it as name anchors.
    Anyone have any tips?

Show us your page. My article just didn't go far enough to
    warn people not
    to use these menus....
