Exporting to PDF - Selection Formula confirmation message

Hi,
We're using Crystal Reports 11 from within a Delphi 7 application which, on a timed schedule, loads data into a MS SQL server database and generates and prints or e-mails a report of the data loaded in PDF format. This process should be automatic and not require monitoring but we're now seeing the report generation being stalled by a confirmation message appearing when the report is generated. The message reads:
Confirm
Selection Formula for {Report Name} to Printer   // or To Export
{Selection Formula Here}
Continue?
(RETRY=edit with Crystal, All=copy to clipboard)
Buttons: Yes No Retry All
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Garry

I'm wondering if this could be easily fixed by going to the links panel and then use the "Copy Links To" and set up a new links folder for the job.
That would copy all the links and then relink to that folder - right?
Perhaps that's a quick way to get rid of this problem.
It could be anything though - I've had weird, but not this problem, of files that are on a server can cause link problems.
I don't know - it's a one of those have to sit down and look at the files to see what's going on situation - like Bob already said.

  • Is there a page size limit when exporting a pdf from InDesign?

My indd file is 201x40 inches with a 1.5 inch slug. When I export to pdf I get this message, "The document page size exceeds the page size range supported in PDF files. Exported pages will be resized to fit within PDF limits."

Although the PDF spec mentions that it's feasible to create a PDF as large as 15,000,000 inches in either direction, 200 x 200 inches is Distiller’s limit for PostScript. It’s based on the Windows printer driver limitation.
If I read the quote below correctly, the maximum page size is 15 million inches (381 km).
"This is from the PDF Reference 1.6:
    177. In PDF versions earlier than PDF 1.6, the size of the default user space unit is fixed at 172 inch. In Acrobat viewers earlier than version 4.0, the minimum allowed page size is 72 by 72 units in default user space (1 by 1 inch); the maximum is 3240 by 3240 units (45 by 45 inches). In Acrobat versions 5.0 and later, the minimum allowed page size is 3 by 3 units (approximately 0.04 by 0.04 inch); the maximum is 14,400 by 14,400 units (200 by 200 inches).
Beginning with PDF 1.6, the size of the default user space unit may be set with the UserUnit entry of the page dictionary. Acrobat 7.0 supports a maximum UserUnit value of 75,000, which gives a maximum page dimension of 15,000,000 inches (14,400 * 75,000 * 172). The minimum UserUnit value is 1.0 (the default)."

    Hi forum,
    my task is:
If i get alert message while pressing. CMD+E in indesign..... the alert message will display and say "your document has some problem"..
    and there after conforming alert message, the export to print should exit; (if the document doesn't get alert message, then export to pdf should work);
so.. i assigned exit(); command between the something to find and alert and then export to pdf programme...

    var myerror=mydoc.stories.everyItem().paragraphs.everyItem().characters.everyItem().getElemen ts();

  • Error on exporting to PDF - Exception in formula - this field is not known

We just upgraded the crystal to new CRJ files and the reports started to throw errors.
We are sending the output as a byte array stream
    inputStream = (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
We have 2 procedures in the report and exception is thrown for every formula based on procedure 1.
If we remove all formulas report works fine. Does anyone have a clue.
Just to let you know, the reports were working fine using previous crystal APIs. Its only after new jars, the exception is thrown. Any help is highly appreciated.

    Crystal Reports formulas?
Are they in Crystal Format or Basic Format?

  • How to disable confirmation message when submitting a pdf form

How do I disable the confirmation mesage, so that the user does not get at message like " you form has been recieved"  each time data is submitted?
The reason for my question, is that i have a pdf form that i'd like to fill out offline, store the settings (data) in an array and the when I get online again run a loop that populates the form with the values storen in my array and submits them one at the time to formscentral.
I'm able to make the loop work just fine, however I do not want to see the confirmation message each time data is submitted,  because my loop is paused each time the confirmation message appears, and the only way to resume it, is to click "ok".

  • Using the Export to PDF online service, I get "Conversion Failure" error message; why?

Using the Export to PDF online service, I get "Conversion Failure" error message; why?
The documen t was originally created with Word (*.doc) then printed to PDF format; now I need to convert back to Work, but I get the "Conversion Failure" error message, both on conversion back to *.Doc format and attempt to convert to *.docx format.

    Hi lfordlaw,
How large is the PDF that you're trying to convert? How did you generate the PDF from Word (did you use Acrobat, or Word's built-in PDF generator)? What version of Word are you using?
The answers to those questions should help us get to the bottom of things.
In the meantime, please try the following:
Clear the browser cache and log back in to https://cloud.acrobat.com.
Try a different web browser (see System Requirements | Adobe Acrobat Pro and Online Services for a list of supported browsers).
Try to convert a different file (if you can convert another file without error, the one you're receiving the error on may be damaged).
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Problem in pdf export and subsequent selection

Well I'm starting to have a very bad weekend. I know I can do a lot of this in acrobat but that would defeat the point of why to use indesign.
My problem is as follows: There's a LOT of python tutorials in indesign formats at my work. Now the BIG problem is that python is dependent on white space on start of the line. But once in PDF format the text selection tool refuses to select the spaces at the start of the line.
If anybody of you has programmed python you'd know that's a bad thing indeed. So what we have now is thousands upon thousands of lines of examples the user can not easily select and copy paste into their use. Without spending a excessive amounts of adding spaces.
So apart of ditching using pdf and indesign as medium. Is there any easy way that i can:
1 ) Override the function of adobe reader. So it selects the whitespace
(I know its there if text touchup i can see it)
2 ) Instruct indesign to export a pdf text field out of a certain
    paragraph style per paragraph.
Something other I can do? This is killing my entire workflow. Maybe theres a way you could autoswap the fields in script etc? I mean it must be readily apparent to even somewhat inexperienced computer user.
PS: im thinking maybe buttons that copy text to clipboard but that's not the most intuitive way

  • Selective downsampling when exporting to PDF?

    Hi,
I have a booklet with a number of pics in it. When I export such a job to PDF to create a print-ready version normally I'd just set it to downsample all images to 300 dpi, but in this case some of the pics are technical drawings with text and fine lines that I'd prefer to keep at a higher res - even up to 1200 dpi if possible (the drawings are large enough to provide this quality).
So, is there a way of tagging individiual images in InDesign such that they won't be downsampled on export to PDF?
    Cheers,
    MP

@MP – there is a way to get the high-res images to the final PDF after you are downsampled the PDF. But this is a labor intensive process and requires Acrobat Pro and PhotoShop.
    There are also some restrictions.
    1. The PDF must not be flattened by  flattening transparency.
PDF/X-4 as output would be ok with that. No PDF/X-3, no PDF/X-1a, if possible…
    2. You cannot use images with a clipping path
Avoid to process, because some extra steps are necessary,
    3. If Images or their containers are rotated and/or sheared
    4. If the images are scaled unproportionally
    5. If images are cropped
    The process would be:
Open the downsampled PDF in Acrobat Pro.
Open PhotoShop with the original image in high-res quality.
In Acrobat Pro use the TouchUp object Tool to open the low-res image in PhotoShop.
In PhotoShop set the resolution of the downsampled image to the resolution of the original without changing its dimensions (width x height); in effect up-sample the image to its original values.
Copy/Paste the pixels from the high-res original to the one opened from Acrobat Pro.
Merge all layers to the background layer.
Save and close the one opened from Acrobat Pro.
It's clear that this process is labor intensive and could only be a workaround, if just a few images should maintain a very high resolution.
    And: it's highly debatable…
Why not leaving all images at high-res?
File size? No problem in  workflows nowadays, I think…

  • Program crashes when I try to export to pdf file using CR for VS2010

  • Printing error and Export to PDF error after a Quark Express convert

I are working on a catalogue that was previously made with Quark Express. I used q2id to convert over to InDesign CS3. I had some minor issues setting up the new fonts, but that was no big deal. Now that the catalogue is close to finished, I want to do some test print, however, on several of the files it start processing the printing, finish the processing of all the pages, then kills the print job and comes with the following error:
Print Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.
Similar error happens when I try to export to PDF, this error only says:
    Failed to Export PFD file
Anyone had a similar problem?? I've done a preflight but ID does not indicate any problems with the file nor its content. Is there another tool to scan the file with to find errors?? Possible fix it?? Is there a log file I could check??
    In advance, thanks guys.
    Working on:
    InDesign CS3
    Windows XP Pro, SP02
    2 GB RAM

    Thanks Ken,
Not sure how to check if we do have OPI comments on some of the images, but looks like I have found a solution to the printing problem at least.
Thanks to a respons by Peter Spier to another topic with similar problems:
    Peter Spier - 4:00am Mar 11, 08 PST (#5 of 6)
The symptoms could describe document corruption rather than network issues which might fall into the category of things that can be cleared up through export to .inx.
Try exporting one or two of the problem files to interchange format, open those and save as new .indd and make a new book file. See if that behaves differently across the network.
I also found another article about INX files, that confirms this technique:
    http://avondale.typepad.com/indesignupdate/2005/08/what_the_heck_i.html
"...INX can also help “clean up” problem files in InDesign CS2—if you’re running into problems, especially with files that started their lives as QuarkXPress or PageMaker files, try exporting the document as INX and then opening that file."
    So, I
    1. exported all files, one by one to INX or InDesign InterChanged
    2. Then reopened those files, saved back as regular .indd files
    3. Reopend the new file (hoping for a refreshed file and test to see if it would open without problems.)
    4. Then packed the files indevidually and reopend the new packed files when done.
Alle the files now print without any problems but export to PDF still fails with the same error message.
Would the OPI comment be a problem here maybe?
    Thanks!

  • Cs3 indesign export to pdf slow

When I export to pdf with a new file name the process is very quick, if I export the same document for a second time using the same pdf file name (overwrite exsisting file) it goes very slow and I get the "not responding message" if I wait long enough the process does eventually complete. If I redo the export but select a new pdf filename it works ok. It does not seem to matter if its a large or small file.
I also seem to be getting a similar problem if I use pdfmaker in my office applications.
I am using indesign cs3 with Acrobat professional 8 on  Windows 7.
    Can anyone help!

Handling of missing links HAS changed, and in my opinion for the worse, but at the request of users, so that missing links no longer open the Links panel automatically or ask you to update on opening as they used to, though you should still receive a warning that the links are missing UNLESS YOU HAVE TURNED IT OFF IN YOUR PREFERENCES. It's on by default and you will find the option under the file handling section.
The rationale is that many workflows do not require that links be intact to accomplish the current editing, and longer documents with hundreds of missing links used to take many minutes to open while ID searched, essentially costing those users lots of money.
IF you have stored the links in the same directory as the .indd file, and IF you have moved the entire directory and IF you have enabled finding missing links when opening files, InDesign will find and update the locations for the links when the file is opened. If ID is unable to locate a link, because it is not in the current directory or a subfolder, you will see a warning message (in the past you would have had the option to browse for the missing files), and you must open the links panel if you wish to fix them manually.
In my opinion this is a very acceptable situation, and a great benefit to all types of workflows. I need to know links are modified or missing, so I've left that enabled. Those who don't need to know are no longer bothered or delayed. I suggest you pay a visit to the preferences and make sure that missing/modified checks are enabled, and if you are still having problems then your links aren't stored in the same directory, and that has always been an issue in ID when things get moved.
