Exporting to pure Black and White PDF

Hi,      I've created the  document in mono/black and white, but have been asked by the printers to export the PDF as a pure black and white. I cannot seem to see these settings when exporting. Am I just missing something or is this not possible?
Thanks in advance
Dale

Create a "color" PDF, where everything is only on one plate (black) as there is no export to Grayscale PDF options. The printer will get a composite PDF where all the content is on one plate when he previews and makes the separations.
In InDesign:
You may open the separations preview panel (Window>Output) to check that everything is on the black plate.
Then go to File>Export, and select PDF, you don't need to select a standard PDF/X, just keep None there.
Go to the Output tab and check that Output conversion is set to No Color conversion,  (Don't include profiles either).
The PDF created will have all the contents in the black plate when correctly separated.

  • Colored InDesign docs are wrongly being exported as black and white PDFS

    Hello Sirs/Madams,
I am a new user to InDesign.  I use InDesign CS4.
I have an .indd file that I created (simple, just text, nothing else).  I went to Windows -> Swatches and changed the color of the page to dark blue (modifying the RGB).  On screen, it looks EXACTLY like I want it.
But the problem is when I select File -> Export to PDF and I select ANY of the pdf profiles, it prints ONLY in black and white.  I have messed around with many options, including using the File -> Print option (to Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional BTW) and it *still* creates a black and white pdf!!!
What am I doing wrong? Please can you help me?
All I want is that whatever colors I can see on the screen should be in the PDF, including the document/page area, which I set via the Swatches window.  I apologize if its simple enough but please provide a measure of leeway considering I am taking baby steps here...
    Thank you in advance.

The paper swatch is for preview on screen only and is intended to allow you to see how your document will print on colored paper. If you want to print a solid background you'll need to draw a frame and fill it with that color.

  • How to set default to convert a document to a black and white pdf file?

I have dozens of color Word files that I need to convert to black and white pdf files on a weekly cycle.  I figured out that I can do this for individual files by clicking "print", "properties", then choose the "paper/quality" tab, and then click on "black and white".  However, I cannot make the "black and white" selection permanent.  That is, the next file requires me to go through the same four-step process to convert a Word file to a black and white pdf file.  Any suggestions on how to make the "black and white" selection permenant?

Sorry.  I forgot to mention that I am using Acrobat Adobe Pro 9.4.2.

  • Black and white PDFs printing in changing colours from preview

I am often printing black and white PDFs from preview with my HP PSC 1510 All in one printer and scanner. After updating to OS 10.6, my PDFs have been coming out in colour. They usually start in black, then change in the middle of a line of music or text to purple, red, blue and green. The longer the document, the more different colours I get. This is not occuring when printing black and white documents from NeoOffice, only when printing black and white PDFs from Preview. As this is what most of my printing consists of, this is extremely annoying.
I am high on black ink, as I recently changed catridge and I have also made certain that the printer driver knows this by using the printers and faxes preferance panel and selcting the" levels of material" button to update this, and it seems to understand that I am high on black and low on colour, but still the problem occurs with every PDF i print. (If this button is called something else, but similar, that is because I am using a norwegian system and don't actully know what it is called in the english OSX.)
There is no "print in black and white" button in the printer dialog either, so I can't fool the printer to print in black and white what it perceives as colour in my black and white PDFs either.

Be sure you have applied both the 10.6.2 update and the absolute latest drivers for HP from Apple:

  • Converting a Color Cad file into a Black and White .pdf

My company recently bought me Adobe Acrobat XI-Professional as an upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 9-Standard. As such, one of the tasks assigned to me was to take color CAD drawings (.DWG extension) created in AutoCAD 12 and then convert them into black-and-white .pdf files. I recognize that there is a "Print in grayscale (black and white) option, but I'm finding that all of the text used in the CAD drawing (generally yellow and cyan) is coming out in grey rather than black against white. I need all of the colors to generally be black.
Is there a solution that I'm overlooking?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi TTownWriter,
On conversion Yellow, cyan and red etc convert as grey instead of Black.
    This is an expected behavior.

  • How to create black and white pdfs from autocad drawing

I am trying to create a pdf from autocad drawing with searchable text.  Using the default acad pdf driver, it will create searchable text for only TT fonts with width set to 1.0.  We use the monochrome plot settings so pdfs are all black, even if drawing was in color.
Using 'create pdf' from Acrobat Pro, Acrobat pro will create a pdf from the autocad drawing easily with all text searchable, shape fonts, TT fonts, no matter what the width.  Fantastic.  However, there is no option that I can see to create the pdf in just black and white.  It creates the pdf in drawings original colors.  How do I create a black and white pdf using acrobat pro?  Thanks.

    @gordon15
The only way to change the color of the printouts from your iPhone is through HP's free mobile app "HP ePrint Home&Biz". This is available in the App Store.
Simply download and install the app, choose a file to print from within the app, then press the icon at the bottom right of the screen that is a wrench and printer. This should then give you the option to choose the color output. Make your selection, press "Done", then press "Print."
If you are not seeing this option, you may need to setup ePrint for the printer and then register the app. This registration will also give you more functionality with the app.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
Although I work for HP, my posts and replies are my own opinion and not those of HP.

  • .dwg to black and white .pdf

I'm using X Pro to covert .dwg files.  After converting, the .pdf file retains all the pretty color layers.  How do I convert the .dwg to a black and white .pdf?

  • How do I convert a color jpg to a pure black and white jpg with no grey/shading?

how do I convert a color jpg to a pure black and white jpg with no grey/shading using Automator?

    Hi mns579,
    Thanks for your swift reply.
I'm afraid that sequence leads to a burn-out of some of the black text, making it unreadable.
To clarify, what I did was photograph pages from a book.  The interior lighting of the room where I photographed these pages leads to a jpg image with slight graying or shading of parts of the page.  So when I simply convert it to B/W, I get a washing out of some areas of the page where there is text, and this makes it unreadable.
I know that some software programs have a feature that allows a color jpg to be converted to b/w such that the text is made pure black and any surrounding areas of the text are made pure white (ie, all color is removed from the non-black areas), which makes for an easily readable b/w text page.  Am I able to do this with my Mac, and if so, how using the Automator feature?
(I have more than 50 jpgs that I would like to clean up in this manner, hence the ability to do so through Automator is important.)
Thanks for your attention to this.

  • Converting a PDF to pure black and white

I'm currently attempting to convert a PDF of any colorspace (RGB, CMYK, Grayscale etc) to black and white.
Currently I'm walking the PDF using Adobe PDFLibrary, separating the contained PDEElements and identifying them (Image, text, etc).
Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed from here? I figure the actual conversion operation will have to be written from scratch, as Adobe doesn't seem to support this. However, I'm having a hard time determining the colors of each object. I suppose I could rasterize everything and convert pixel by pixel, but I'd like to avoid that and preserve vector images and such if at all possible.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, I'm aware that there is no monochrome colorspace. However, wouldn't it be possible (likely at a very low level) to fetch and modify the colors of elements manually?
I suspect the initial thing to do is convert images to the DeviceGray colorspace and work from there, so I have a uniform colorspace to work with when performing this operation.
I've noticed that if I pull the ImageData object out of a PDEImage, I get an array of bytes that appear to be pixel by pixel color data. Now, in doing this have I rasterized the image? What would happen to vector images if this array were to be modified?

  • Make Black and White PDF from Color JPGs

I don't have a scanner and use my digital camera to make 2-3 page document PDFs occasionally.  I take a picture of a page, crop it in an image editor, and finally drag and drop the jpgs into Acrobat to create a pdf.  The problem is that these docs don't print very well because they are created in color.  Is there an easy way to make them in black and white instead of color?   I don't want greyscale documents, because they don't print very well either.

    ~graffiti wrote:
Grayscale would be the way to go to retain shadows and tints.
I'm dealing with text-based documents on colored paper, so shadows and tints are exactly what I don't want.
Printing a greyscale image on a laser printer produces the same result as printing the original image in full color.
I'm not sure what you mean by that. Could you elaborate a bit?
I use a non-color laserjet.  Printing a color document with a black and white printer and printing a greyscale document converted from that doc will print the exact same thing, i.e. black text with nasty grey backgrounds.

  • Black and white pdf prints pink

I found an old black and white family photo online, downloaded and saved it as a pdf. But when I try to print it, it's is no longer black and white, but has a decided pinkish cast. This also happened with one letter from the same site. I have a mac flat panel, running OS 10.4.11, and an HP 5610 all in one printer. Is there any way to get this to print in B&W?
Also, when I tried to email the photo the way I've done previously -- go to print, then to pdf drop down menu and chose Mail PDF, I'm told its not supported. Same answer if I try Preview.  I had to start an new email and add photo as an attachment. No biggie, but the way I had been doing it was easier.
Oh, and the last tine I used Adobe, I was alerted to an update, which I did install. Was this my first mistake?

Thanks. But just to be clear, the file as it sits on my desktop, is
black and white. The color, which reminds me of an photo that was
overexposed, only appears upon printing it. In fact, when I attach it
to an email, I again see the black and white photo. No color.
I will though try your suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Ken

  • Black and white PDF

    Hello,
I have several documents with some color - the color consists of language tone marks in an gif images and cannot be edited - that will go into a PDF, and I want the PDF to be only black and white. Any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this?
    Cheers,
    James

I think I could do this by printing to the Adobe PDF printer (if you
have the full version of Acrobat)--under Output, choose Composite Gray.
Or you could edit the images, easy enough to batch the GIFs through
Photoshop. Why do you think you can't edit them?
Finally, why must your PDF be grays? If you print color to a B&W
printer, well, you certainly don't get color. I guess you don't get to
control how the colors get converted to grays, but you're not going to
get that kind of control unless you convert each one in Photoshop.

  • Need help with printing black and white pdf print at higher quality.

We are a machine shop and many of our customers supply their prints for the tooling we need to make in .PDF file formats.  The problem is that some of the files are NOT of great quality.   They seem very faint.  I can view them on my computer no problem and when I zoom in, the quality is good, but whey they print, the dimensions and lines are very faint.   I have been pounding my head to come up with a way to improbe the quality in the following characteristics:  contrast, line quality, darker dimensions and lines, etc.   But I just cannot get anywhere.  Is there anyone that could give me some insight into how to do this.   If so, he or she would have my undying gratitude (which probably is not worth much, but sounds good!)
The other thing is that some of our customers send their prints in .TIF or .TIFF file formats.  Is there any way to convert them to PDF and get good quality?  These .TIF and .TIFF files are a little worse than others.
    Thanks ahead of time!
