Expose Existing EJB as Web Service

Hello,
I've recently installed studio enterprise. I've written and deployed the requisite "Hello, World!" stateless ejb. Now, I would like to expose that existing bean as a web service. I know that it simply requires a new interface and some new xml. When I try to expose it with the studio 8 ide, it seems to want to generate a new class file for the web service. Is there a clear tutorial on how to expose an existing bean as a web service without generating unnecessary classes?
All suggestions much appreciated!

Thanks for the quick reply! I took a look, and they are similar to what I am familiar with. I think what I am looking for is specific to the Java Studio IDE. I know that all I need to do is add an interface. The IDE should ( optimally ) genereate all the additional xml, wsdl, etc. This is all easy to do in WebSphere through RAD. I am looking for the equivalent in the Studio Enterprise IDE. The only tutorials I have found have been muddled at best.
I don't want the IDE to generate a new bean class. I just need a new interface to expose the bean as a Web Service. The IDE should be able to incorporate the interface into the existing jar and provide the wsdl.

  • Follow up to web services question:  How do I expose java components as web services on iPlanet 6.0 app server?

    My task - my company has several legacy PowerBuilder applications that access a variety of Sybase and MS SQL databases. Rather than re-inventing the wheel by re-writing these applications in Java, we would like to enable these applications to call java components (EJBs) that will provide new functionality. I would need a piece of software called CSXtend (from www.cynergysystems.com) to allow PowerBuilder to call a web service. However, I am not sure how to expose my business functions (EJBs) as web services on the iPlanet 6.0 App server. Thanks for all previous responses! Any additional info would be greatly appreciated! Mike

    I have used Glue (http://www.themindelectric.com/products/glue/glue.html) to expose some of our stuff as Web Services. I recently found this on serverside. It's pretty good.
    http://www.theserverside.com/resources/article.jsp?l=Systinet-web-services-part-1
    I believe that the middleware they use can be plugged into IPlanet. There is also an article in the knowledge base on the IPlanet site.

  • Exposing a process as web service on Oracle BPM 11g

    Hi!
    Does somebody know how can I expose a process as a web service on Oracle BPM 11g? How does it works?
    In the version 10.3, when we exposed a process as web service it always had 3 default methods: startSession, getInstanceStatus and discardSession, is it the same in the 11g version?
    Where can I found some info about it? Any tutorial?
    Thanks a lot!
    Ana

    Typically you would use a Message Start event to start the process in conjunction with a Message End event. This will allow your process to be called as an asynchronous web service.
    In the "Implementation" section for the start event, you specify the input parameters. You can specify "Define Interface" to directly define the interface, or use an existing interface from the BPM Catalog (the From Catalog option).
    For further details on the different event types and their use cases, refer to the modeling and implementation guide:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15176/toc.htm
    You can test the web service and examine the WSDL and endpoints by using FMW control (Enterprise Manager). In the menu on the left hand side: expand SOA -> SOA-Infra -> <Partition Name> -> Composite Name, then click the "Test" button at the top.

  • Error Message "No logical port exists to call web services" installing SM7

    I am trying to use SLM to download a service stack.  However, the option is not available in step 2.5.  There is an error message "No logical port exists to call web services".  I have performed the Wizard install, but the Wizard seems to have left out this step.  I have looked around for documentation on how to configure the port, but cannot find anything more useful than comments to the effect that I should configure the port.

    I found the problem, I think, although I am now on to the next problem.  "Web Services for software lifecycle manager not available'.
    The documentation is lacking.  When the RFC connection is set up, the user id is j2ee_admin, using the install password.  This is not specified anywhere in the install instructions that I could find, there is only a reference to a 'user id and password'.
    The LPCONFIG is used to create a logical port, that ties the RFC to the LP.  However, no name is specified that is to be used for the LP.

  • Exposing RFC as a Web Service

    Hello All,
    I am working on a SOAP to SOAP (Backend as ECC where I am exposing an RFC as Web Service). Once the Web service is generated for RFC and the WSDL is imported in PI, I can see that all the fields in different nodes become mandatory.
    Is it how normally Web Service for BAPI works or can this behaviour (mandatory / optional) be controlled ?
    Also when I execute the end to end scenario via SOAP UI, I don't get any error back but also neither get the Return table nor the Sales Order NO. I am using the BAPI BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2.
    Can it be because of no COMMIT (The BAPI uses external commit although this reason seems less likely as executing a RFC wo any commit atleast gives me a Sales Order no) ?
    How can this call be analysed in backend ECC system ? (As I assume that messages will not be visible in SXMB_MONI as explained by the Harald's thread below. I am currently in process of getting authorization of SOAMANAGER logs but wondering how it'll help?
    Thanking you in advance.

    Hi,
    Please see the SOAP ststud..
    http://<host>:5<sys#>00/mdt/amtServlet
    also you might check any error logs.
    The error is because of invalid xml document. So check the validity of the xml message ie. after first mapping i.e Req mapping.

  • Benefits of exposing function module as web services

    Hi All,
    We are developing a case study about exposing function modules as web services.
    Those web services would be later used for integration to SAP box with a Java application.
    Kindly help me with the pros and cons of exposing function modules as web services when compared to SAP PI. Also please do quote some examples, wherever possible.
    Thanks,
    Varun

    Hi Varun,
    Pros--->
    1)Exposing FM as Web Services is indeed a good choice when you want service consumer to be platform and language independent.
    i.e it can be consumed by .Net, java or any other language.
    2) You are moving towards SOA
    3) Composing Business Process by concatenating different functional modules is easy.
    4) Complexity is less while consuming services Java, CAF etc.
    Cons----> Performance for Web Services is comparatively less than JCo .
    If you are bringing PI in between landscape, you are increasing one more layer of middleware which would also hit performance.
    The benefit which PI can give is monitoring your company wide integrations at one central point when you have huge systems.
    Hope this helps.

  • Exposing Inbound Interfaces as Web Service

    Hi,
    when it comes to expose XI interfaces as web services, the XI documentation quotes:
    "Sie können sowohl von Outbound- als auch von Inbound-Message-Interfaces WSDL-Beschreibungen erzeugen."
    -> i.e. Inbound interfaces can be exposed as web services.
    But the web service definition wizard expects the quotation of an outbound interface. So am I right when I say that I always need an outbound interface? If yes, why is it possible to expose inbound interfaces???
    Cheers,
    Heiko

    Hi,
    no, inbound interfaces can only call web services
    that are exposed on some other web servers
    only outobund XI interfaces can be exposed as web services
    (in this case XI acts as a web server)
    and other applicaitons can call this outbound interface

  • Error during EAR deployment with EJB and web service

    I created a simple stateless EJB with one method called echo that returns a string.  I created a web service using the wizard, did a build and deployed.  The deployment did not report an error, but the logs in the visual administrator showed the follwoing message, and the web service did NOT deploy.
    Am I missing something related to EJB and web service security?

  • EJBs and web services  in Application server  ??

    Hi all,
    I just wanted to ask for a help in a scenario that i am facing:
    I have a Application that relies on EJBs for Business Logic
    I basically use the Jboss A/s[4.2.2 GA] server for the same and now there is a need to Expose these bean methods through a web service
    so that our web team can make use of the same Business logic.
    Currently i have implemented a End point interface that my Bean class implements so that i can expose
    my bean methods to the web team
    Req:
    I want to create a separate Enterprise Bean which resides in the same JVM as my Application bean , and acts as a wrapper for my application bean
    Also,
    Further elaboration of the problem is as follows:
    THE existing Application beans Remote interface has all the business methods that i want to expose.
    The new bean should act as a delegate which intercepts the web clients call extracts the request from the call
    and passes it to the application bean methods.
    So this basically requires that new bean should be able to communicate with my application bean +(Which is BTW a stateless session bean)+
    and pass on clients requests to the same.
    Kindly provide suggestion for the same or any ideas as soon as possible
    thanks again

    Edited by: RainaV on 14 May, 2009 6:57 PM

    Let me make it more clear for everyone
    Let [A] be my application bean which has all the business Logic.
    is a new wrapper bean that needs to communicate to bean [A] for accessing the Business Logic
    The requirement for creating Bean[B] is two folds
    1) it will provide a wrapper class for breaking down the web client requests,
    which are in  XML format;
    into simpler data structure which can be passed as parameters to bean [A}.
    2)This bean [B] will send the response back to the web client who is in need of the service
    Now as pointed out by one of the guys why not create a Local interface that is not possible at this point as Most of the session bean methods have been declared to throw
    Remote Exceptions and i am faced with the issue that this Design mistake is irreversible due to the Size of the Code and other factors
    Now i have been looking and some Alternatives for the same .
    The problem is i have not been able to find any way to do the same and need suggestions and ideas if anyone has some on this issue
    i hope this clears the matter
    thanks again

  • How to check resource existance using standard web-services?

    Hi,
    There was the web-service KMNodeServiceStrdWSVi_Document in the SAP EP 7.0 that exposed the function "exists" checking whether the folder exists or not.
    SAP EP 7.3 does not contain KMNodeServiceStrdWSVi_Document web-service and I did not find any function in the  RepositoryFramework web-service.
    Is there any other web-service providing this functionality?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Arun,
    I got the data in the context in the response node .But the problem is that the web service returns an array of objects which inturns has array ob object, I m only able to get those values from the response node from the context which are simple string type.Could u pls tell me how can i get the complex data which is present in the response node in the context.
    Can i traverse the node(i.e) the rray in the context.CAn u tell me wat can i do.The response node has the complex structure as defined in the WSDL file ,i just need to get the data present in the array of that context which is populated by the web service.

  • Expose ejb3 as jaxws web service

    Dear,
    I want to expose my ejb3 stateless sessionbean as a jaxws web service (in order to have versioning for production redeployment high availability). I followed these docs a bit: http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs92/webserv/jws.html
    excerpt of my class :
    @Session(ejbName="myWSBean")
    @MethodIsolationLevelPattern(pattern="*", isolationLevel=IsolationLevel.TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED)
    @JndiName(remote="...")
    @RoleMapping(principals="MYUSER", roleName="MYUSER")
    @TransactionAttribute(value=TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRED)
    @Stateless
    @WebService(name="MyServicePort", serviceName="MyService",
    targetNamespace="http://.../.../MyInterfaceService")
    public class MyWSBean implements SessionBean{
    When I try to build the web service with the jws ant task, I get following errors:
    [jwsc] [ERROR] - The annotation weblogic.ejbgen.RoleMapping is not allowed on ...MyWSBean because it is a JAX-WS type web service.
    [jwsc] [ERROR] - The annotation weblogic.ejbgen.Session is not allowed on ...MyWSBean because it is a JAX-WS type web service.
    Seems its not allowed to mix jaxws and ejb3 annotations. What is the way to go to expose my ejb3 bean as a resource?
    thx

    Thx for your reply.
    I did it differently: Creating a EJB3 bean (using the weblogic.ejbgen annotations) and afterwords creating a seperate file for the JAXWS webservice and there injecting the bean via the EJB annotation. Works smoothly.
    Although I would rather use 1 file for both sessionbean and web service
    Therefore, like I said, in the EJB3 sessionbean I now use following ejbgen annotations:
    @Session(ejbName="...",
                   runAs="...", runAsIdentityPrincipal="...",
                   createAsPrincipalName="...", passivateAsPrincipalName="...",
                   transTimeoutSeconds="7200", enableCallByReference=Bool.TRUE,
                   useCallerIdentity=Bool.FALSE)
    @MethodIsolationLevelPattern(pattern="*", isolationLevel=IsolationLevel.TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED)
    @RoleMapping(principals="...", roleName="...")
    Not sure why this is 'ejbgen' annotations, instead of just ejb or javaee general annotations... Arent there any more standard annotations or so in order to specify these configurations (rolemapping, MethodIsolationLevelPattern, Session, runas, createasprincipalname...) ?
    thanks
