Expression Language not getting evaluated

I am trying a sample on tomcat 5.03. The expression Language construct is not getting evaluated.
for eg
<c:out value="${customer.age}" />
simply prints the text ${customer.age} .
Whats wrong ?
Thanks
Ashwani

You probably have an old doctype for your web.xml file.
Your web.xml needs to start like this:
<web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd" version="2.4">It should NOT have this
<!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
"http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">Basically if it sees anything less than version 2.4 in the web.xml file, it will disable EL expression language for your JSP pages. This is for backwards compatibility with existing web apps.
To fix - remove the doctype definition, and use the new one.
alternative: put this on your jsp page:
<%@ page isELIgnored="false" %>That will fix it for this page. Fixing the web.xml should fix it for all pages.

    Hello,
You should not try to mix JSP and JSF EL prior to JSF 1.2 and JSP 2.1, the result is inconsistent most of the time.
To fix your current issue though, I suggest you use the rendered attribute instead of a <c:if>, so would be:
    <h:outputText styleClass="texto_red"
    value="#{bean.genericErrorMessages}"
    id="applicationErrorMessages" escape="false" rendered="#{!empty bean.genericErrorMessages}"/>Regards,

  • {Expression Language} not working tomcat5 j2se 1.5_beta

I m new to JSP technology. I m trying to use expression language in my application and it's not letting me do the job.
    simple program
    <head> <body>
    Hi there! 3 + 3 is ${3+3}
    </body></head>
It just shows " Hi there! 3 + 3 is ${3+3} " as the output. I tried google search. it seems the problem is across many networks like in bea weblogic etc.,
when i used <%@page isELEnabled="true" > i get an error saying attribute isELEnabled not recognised or something like that. My web.xml hasn't got any setting for jsp so I don't know where the "*.jsp" section is available, just in case that needs any touchup.
I have installed JSTL under /common/lib dir. but i think this library is not required for using basic EL.
So, can anyone help me configure my JSP page so that i can use EL tags in them.
    OS: Windows 2000
    Tomcat ver: 5
    J2Se: 1.5 beta

Hmmm. Looks like I didn't make myself clear enough.
You still have the declaration DTD for servlet 2.3 at the top of your web.xml.
To enable EL using Tomcat 5 you only need to do ONE of the following:
1 - update your web.xml file to have the header for the 2.4 version (note its not a DTD anymore)
2 - if your web.xml uses the DTD from version 2.3, include the page directive <%@ page isELIgnored="false" %> on any pages
Basically the rules for executing EL are as follows:
1 - Is there a directive on the page? If yes, then enable/disable according to the directive.
2 - Is there an entry in web.xml for handling EL? If yes then enable/disable according to the setting
3 - Is the web.xml file for the Servlet 2.4 spec? (ie does it start have the version 2.4 header) Yes = enable EL No = disable EL
The easiest way of enabling EL is updating your web.xml to be compliant with the latest servlet spec.

Both the CRM and BW systems are Unicode systems and we are not able to figure out the reason for this.

  • Wired Ethernet + Airport Express could not get them to work together

I am a newbie to Mac. My daughter has a Macbook. No wireless internet access is allowed in her dorm room. Each room has an Ethernet port with a cable so she could plug it in her Macbook and access the Internet. I bought her an AirportExpress a few weeks ago. I set the Airport Express up to connect her printer so she could print wirelessly and stream iTunes to her stereo within her room. I could do both without problem, but if I turned on the Airport on Macbook, Safari could no longer access the Internet. If I turned off the Airport, then the Internet works fine. The school does not allow connecting the Airport Express to the Ethernet Lan port in her room (for security reason), so I could not configure the Airport Express as others would normally do by also plugging in the Ethernet cable.
How could I get the above work by being able to steaming music via Airport and still be able to access the Internet via the wired Ethernet cable. Thanks

ssbkk, Welcome to the discussion area!
By default this is not possible. However using information from Apple's "Mac OS: Connecting to the Internet and sharing files locally at the same time" it might be possible. Try these directions:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    Choose the Network preference pane.
Choose the Ethernet port since you use this to physically connect to the Internet.
Click the TCP/IP tab. This pane should already be set up as directed by her school.
Choose Network Port Configurations from the Show pop-up menu.
If the Ethernet port is not at the top of the list, drag it to the top.
Locate the AirPort you want to use for Printing.
If AirPort is not second in the port configurations list, drag it to the second position.
Choose AirPort from the Show pop-up menu.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose Manually from the Configure pop-up menu.
    Enter these settings:
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    IP address: 10.0.1.201.
Leave the router and other fields blank.
    Click Apply Now.

  • Expression Language to get the navigation model of the parent space

    Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me with this.
Scenario: I need my sub-space to use the same navigation model as the parent.
Reason: Take a space(P) has a navigation model that queries the pages and sub_spaces(S1,S2...) in a space. Using this navigation, if we navigate to a page of a sub_space(S1) of the space, the navigation model for that sub_space(S1) will now query its pages and its sub_spaces. Instead, I want the navigation to still query the pages of the parent space(P) and the sub_spaces(S1,S2) of the parent. Effectively, the navigation contents should not change.
So, I am thinking of using an EL expression that queries the navigation model of a parent(P) to set the navigation model of the sub_space(S1).
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Pradyumna Nandavanam

    Hi.
You can define customAttributes for your group spaces like: parentModelPath
Access it with EL Expression: #{spaceContext.currentSpace.metadata.customAttributes[attributeName]} where attribute name is +'parentModelPath'+
And with next EL Expression: #{navigationContext.navigationModel['model_path']} you can replace 'model_path' with your customAttribute value.
    Kind Regards.

  • The expression is not being displayed in the alert inbox

    Hi,
I have created an expression in 'Long and Short Text' tab present in the ALRTCATDEF transaction screen.
The expression is "test Error in message &SXMS_MSG_GUID&". However if i goto alert inbox, this expression is not getting displayed. I tried putting this expression under Message title, Short text and Long text tabs. But no change in the result.
In the above expression, SXMS_MSG_GUID is a container variable declared in ALRTCATDEF transaction screen.
Same is the situation irrespective of the container variable being used - SXMS_ERROR_CAT etc.,
    I appreciate your early response.

    Hi Venkat,
Without using BPM, you can think/try out with triggering an alert from UDF:
    /people/bhavesh.kantilal/blog/2006/07/25/triggering-xi-alerts-from-a-user-defined-function
Otherwise, you can use email functionality to notify the error message rather an alert....so that you can customize your output format/or error message required.
Also check out this Michal's blog on ALERT Configuration..

  • The post-expression for the step 'Set Station Global Models' could not be evaluated.

When running a TestStand sequence, I get the following error message:
The post-expression for the step 'Set Station Global Models' could not be evaluated.
Variable or property types do not match or are not compatible.
Error Code:  -17321; Variable or property types do not match or are not compatible.
Although I do understand what the above is telling me, fixing the root cause is somewhat another thing.
I'll explain the scenario.  The code is developped in TS4.1.0, although that should be irrelevant.
I inherited a TestStand project which calls LabVIEW modules.  The original sequence works fine on the test pc (which is remotely located).  The local and remote PC's share the same StationGlobals.ini.
Here is why it is strange..  I do get the error message on the local PC whether I use the old or the new code.  I was assuming that using the same StationGlobals.ini would have fixed that, but it didn't.
When I run the old code on the remote PC, I do not get that message, but I do get it with the new code.  I don't recall modifying code that affected the StationGlobals.  My goal is to fix it on both machines (at least the remote one).
This is the expression that it does not like:
    StationGlobals.Models=Locals.Models,
However, that very same expression exists in the original code.  The one thing that did change is the addition of a new model number in the Locals.Models.newNumber.  I suspect that this contributes to the error.  But why does it give me an error when I run the original sequence locally?  Maybe I should try running it again..
In either case, any suggestions to overcome the error?
    Thanks.
    RayR
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Please ignore post.
I found the problem..  There was a mismatch with the number of models.  Easy fix.  It's all good.
For someone else who might tumble onto this thread for the same reason, here's an explanation.
I added a new model with its variants to the list of Locals.Models.  In total, there were 16 additions to the list.
I also added these to the StationGlobals.  Which meant that my StationGlobals no longer matched the one on the remote PC.
Where the error came in is that there was one missing model in the StationGlobals, so the size (number of models) did not match that of the Locals.
Slight oversight in the sea of models that are listed (I'm not even going to count them).  Now fixed.
    ... and embarrassed ...
I may as well give myself an "Accepted Solution".

  • How do I extend my WiFi with Airport Express? I have Ethernet in the house and an Wifi that do not cover the whole house. I do not get it to work.

I have Ethernet in the house and an Wifi that do not cover the whole house. I do not get it to work. I have tried to get it into my network and it get connected via the WiFi but not the Ethernet. Also when it gives a green light I cannot see that it is giving any signals to my devices (iPhone etc).

You need to pay attention to something, while extending your network with the latest AirPort Express upgrade, your devices will be connected to it except your iPhone, you'll see your iPhone always connected to the capsule instead, even if you're at 1 foot from the AirPort Express.
You need to change the radio settings from automatic to 802.11a - 802.11b/g on your capsule, then I put it back to the default settings...
Now in the AirPort utility you should see your iPhone connected to the AirPort
