Extended web application pointing to root site collection, Can point to another site collection?

I have a web application running on port 443 https with windows authentication, machine name is "localspdev" I have following site collections
/ (Root site collection)
site1.dev (HNSC)
site2.dev (HNSC)
If I browse "https://localspdev" I get root site collection, which is fine. I can browse site1 and site2 as well
I am extending web application to extranet zone with forms and windows authentication enabled, port is 443, https and host header is "extranet.dev"
when I browse "https://extranet.dev", root site collection comes up, which I don't want, I can create 1 more extranet
HNSC but how can I configure "https://extranet.dev" to open/link new extranet site collection?

Hi Shafaqat,
When we extend the web application to extranet zone, then the root site collection should be accessed by default with extranet zone URL.
If you want to configure the URL https://extranet.dev to open the Host named site collection, then you need to set the URL to be the extranet zone URL for the Host named sites collection instead of extending the web application.

    Hi sachin,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you created a new document using OWA in the extended zone with FBA.
    The issue stems from SharePoint and is due to an error in the access token generation when a user tries to load a document in the Office Web Apps.
    The current workaround is to configure FBA authentication in the Default zone of the effected web application.
    More information, please refer to the link:

    I hope this helps.

  • Extending Web Application - File Not Found

    A quick search with no results and a ton of frustration are leading me here...I am attempting to use the very basic "Extend" functionality for a Web Application. We are trying to at the least add SSL/443 to SharePoint, if not convert entirely to
    443.
    I have tried simply extending the Web Application, or deleting the IIS Site (from Manage Web Applications -> Delete -> Remove SharePoint from IIS Web Site) and then extending the Web Application. Both are failing with the same error "File not
    found." A review of the ULS logs shows that the site is failing to find the web.config for the brand new IIS site it should be creating...which I guess makes sense, but shouldn't it be creating this file?
    I am tempted to mess around with the newly created site in IIS to make it work, but we are doing this in Dev as a proof of concept to do this in production. Needless to say, this needs to become much more reproducible before we'd even consider doing it in
    production.

    the get-go. Also, this method would obviously involve downtime.

  • How to upgrade the extended web application for FBA from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010?

    Hi All,
    Currently my farm version is MOSS 2007 with SP3.
    I have a web application on port 80, and is based on windows authentication, and i extend it on the port 90, and the authentication is FBA with SqlServer.
    I know that SharePoint 2010 has a new claims based authentication, and in a single web application you can do both windows authentication and FBA.
    Now i want to know, when i migrate the MOSS 2007 port 80 and port 90, which method should i choose?
    1. in SharePoint 2010 farm, Create  a classic based web application on port 80, and extend it on port 90, enable FBA on port 90. It is the same as MOSS 2007.
    2. in SharePoint 2010 farm, Create a claims based web application, and enable both windows authentication and FBA.
    Thanks.

    FBA requires claims so you'll need to create a claims based web application. Whilst you might extend the site to give you a FBA portal the web application itself will have to be claims based.
    I would definitely be looking at using a database attach upgrade path in your case to give you the opportunity for testing as moving between authentication providers can be painful.

  • Java + Frameworks + Extendable Web Applications

    Hi all
    I was taking a look to:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javase/extensible/
    Because I have to do a very extensible web application that a lot of different customers will use.
    The main goal is to build a core system that will support a lot of modules around this core.
    I want to let my developers plug and unplug (install/uninstall) modules on the fly, maybe with a web interface to let the system cut any connections to the application.
    One of the requeriments is to let developers update one customer modules while the application is running. Of course the others customers should notice nothing or almost nothing.
    I mean, I want to do almost the same thing that tomcat does with the .war files but inside a already deployed application.
    Can someone point me in the right direction?
    I want to use the Spring framework, tomcat and Hibernate.
    Can remoting help here?

    But my question is: How to implement a different
    LogManager for each container application.To quote the very first words of the API documentation for LogManager: "There is a single global LogManager object..."
    How can I have several instances of the LogManager in
    the same VM?Obviously you can't.
    Now go back to your real problem (which is, I think, that you want each context path to have separate logs) and see what the API documentation can do for you. The very first words of the documentation for Logger are "A Logger object is used to log messages for a specific system or application component." So I would suggest you need to implement a different Logger for each container application.

    You may want to check if the option '''Remember passwords for sites''' is still enabled in '''Tools''' (or '''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options'''. If it is enabled, click '''Exceptions...''' and and make sure the particular site is not listed.

  • Coding to move from one site to specific part of another site?

    Forgive if I am not explaining this very well- here goes. I have one major site with three other gallery sites that are related. From one of the gallery sites I need to create a button that takes you back to a specific page on the major site. Playing with the coding has not resolved the issue so appreciate any help in finding magic:
    on (press) {

    gets me back to the beginning of the major site but I need to get to a certain page within the site. Is this possible? Thank you! All coding is AS2, Mac platfom, FlashCS5.

    if you want to load frame 22, use:
    on(press){
    getURL("http://www.yoururl.com/page.html?framenum=+22","_blank");
    then within the head tags of page.html in yoururl.com, use:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function urlF(){
    return location.href;
    </script>
    and in the swf that's embedded by page.html, add the following to frame 1:
    import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
    stop();
    trace(ExternalInterface.call("urlF"));
    //  upload that to your server, post the url to the flash containing the getURL() and indicate which button needs to be pressed.

  • How can I create a host name site collection when I have a 443 web application already created for App model?

    Hi all,
    I have a 2013 farm set up with the App model
    1 web application for path based site collection using host name
    1 web application with SSL (no host name)
    1 web application for mysite
    My business request is that  I need to migrate SSL enabled 2007 content to this farm and use host name site collections.  I tried to create one more web application for this without any luck (the 443 IIS folder is already used by another web application).
    I thought I bind the previous 443 web application with another IP address should be fine.  Seems like the IIS site is taken (https://server name:443) so it will not let me create one more.  How can I solve this problem so I can create the web application
    to host those host name site collections?  Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sally

    Hi Trevor,
    Thanks again for your quick reply.  I try the option 2 right after your post.  I use my front end server name for public URL (https://WFEName:443) and it fails again.  The error message is:
    The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\443 is already being used by another IIS Web Site.  Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
    After reading more, I saw mix Hosted Name Site collection and Path-based site collection aren't recommended.  Unfortunately I already have Path-based site collection created with App model web application
    (the web application without host name) in my farm.  In my Option 2, that web application without host name is used for App routing.  This takes the root folder 443 which will not allow any other web application to use the same name again.
    Does that mean we can't create Host Named Site collection in the same farm?  Is there any configuration I need to check?
    Thanks again.
    Sally
