Extensions Autodownload

Hello All,
I've modified a little my 3D game for being able to launch it with Web Start. I setup the JRE Autodownload feature (windows) quite easily like demonstrated in the developer guide.
My problem is related to Webstart. When I want to make Java 3D available there are many strange thing I must do :
1/Make the installation jar myself (for a an extension provided by Sun)
2/Sign it (same remark)
3/Declare the installer in the <extension> tag and give it all-permissions (because it installs native code)
4/Store the jar somewhere on the deployment server
Many problems/incoherences (I think) arise :
- Room to store a Sun extension (15MB for Java 3D for win32/linux/solaris JARs)
- Bandwidth (50 new players per day represent 160MB of J3D download per day)
- User must trust who signed the extension installation jar and not Sun (the user surely prefer to trust Sun than anyone else)
- Some certificate to sign (that first was not needed)
- Asking the user to trust the installer that require the "all-permissions" (When you have passed time to explain user that he can trust your program because it runs with no harm in sandbox, it's difficult to tell him that installer must have all permissions)
Perhaps Sun extensions might be :
1/ Available for Web Started installation directly from Sun site (for any supported os/architecture)
2/ Signed with some Sun certificate (to avoid developpers to make installer themselves)
3/ Able to be installed along with native code without "all-permissions" needed
Third party extensions will remain like extensions are actually handled : no signature, no native code.
Requiring all permissions and a certificate to install a Sun extension in an already installed Sun JRE is something quite disappoiting to me.

I have noticed that the extension is (of course) downloaded in the Java WebStart cache dir. A point worth of interest would perhaps be 4/
Perhaps Sun extensions might be :

3/ Able to be installed along with native code without "all-permissions" needed
4/ Install Sun provided extensions system wide (as the JRE),not in user space

AutoDownload Problems

Hello Everyone.
I realize that there are a huge number of topics about the autodownloading of JREs, but I haven't seen one recently that describes the problems I've been encountering.
We've been using WebStart without any (major) problems for over a year now. Our applications are using the 1.3.1 JRE. In our .jnlp file, we simply wrote:
<j2se version="1.3"/>
This had worked for a year without a problem. If required, the runtime would be downloaded from java.sun.com. Within the past few weeks, we've had nothing but problems downloading JREs through webstart.
We've tried the following tags in our .jnlp files:
<j2se version="1.3"/>
<j2se version="1.3" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
<j2se version="1.3.1" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
<j2se version="1.4"/>

And always receive one of the following errors:
a) Unable to load resource: (http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se, 1.4.2)
b) Unable to load resource: http://java.sun.com/webapps/jawsautodl/AutoDL/j2se/javaws-1_0_1-j2re-1_4_2-inst-windows-i586.jar
There does not appear to be any pattern to which error we receive.
(NOTE: in a) and b) above, you can replace 1.4.2 with whichever JRE version we're currently trying to get)
We've tried this with 3 different versions of WebStart, to no avail.
We have a number of customers that this will affect very soon, so I'd appreciate any help/suggestions/ideas you might have.

PS. As another solution, I would consider hosting the javaws autodownload jar file on one of our servers, so we could point our customers to our 'autodownload' site. Anyone else doing this?

Well the latter, installing as an extension into the web start cache dir (the location of which differs) is how web start is designed to work.. It's only designed to offer a runtime for compatibility witha a particular JNLP request not a full blown local machine JVM which most people will be familiar with.
Having said that one of the installers in my webstart services pack is designed to attempt to download and execute a full blown jre.exe runtime installer.. its the one I call experimental - because its a technique fraught with problems.. but 80% of the time I'd say it will work, if the user decides to be awkward and change directory names or hits cancel at the wrong time it'll break and new runtimes always contain nasty surprises.
I'm hoping Java Update will reduce our need on webstart to keep producing jvm updates.. but I'm still waiting for my box to recognize it needs to update 1.4.1_01 to 1.4.1_02, been several days since it's release and still no sign of life from the update process.

Adobe cloud tries to load addon which I have deleted in Extension manager

when Adobe Cloud starts it tries to load an application (Edge FX lite) that I have deleted in Adobe Extension Manager cc. I get the error message ' unable to install the addon EdgeFX lite error 603. How do I stop this?
Also in Adobe Exchange in 'My Stuff' there are showing addons which I have removed in Adobe extension Manager cc which I would like to be removed from this listing as I will never use them, but if I right click to uninstall I fail to get rid of them.

1) Go to https://creative.adobe.com/addons/
2) In the top right hand corner select sign in and enter your Adobe ID and password
3) Once logged in, on the center of the screen at the left hand side, select the link 'All your purchases and shared items'
4) You will then be taken to a page that is the equivalent of your My Stuff panel.
5) You can then install individual add-ons/extensions.

Mini DVI to VGA Adapter w/ extension cable

I would like to get a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter for my macbook. Does anyone know how it would would if I used it with a VGA extension cable. Any experience will be helpful

Depends on how long the cable is, and if it was of sufficient quality for computer use. The higher resolutions require better quality and shorter cables. You may get some signal loss for long cables. A standard monitor cable that comes with a computer monitor should be fine, but what kind of length extension cable are you talking about?

VO Extension Error in modifying the query of XML Publisher Report Template

I have one requirement related to calling XML Publisher Reports Template from OAF Page.
When clicking on the submit button the XML Publisher template is calling and displaying the data.
Our requirement is to display some more columns in the XML Publisher Template and display the data.
As according to OAF stndards,whenever we need to add new columns for display or SELECT purpose,
we will do the VO Extension. So we modified the query by adding the new additional colums in the standard VO.
I am able to retrieve the data from the SQL DEVELOPER. But when doing the VO Extension process and

Activity Report download is saved without extension and unreadable

Hello,
The Portal Activity Report iView has a button which enables the user to download the report to his PC.
The problem is that when the user clicks on that button and saves the file it is being saved by this default name: com.sap.portal.activityreport.frontend.DownloadableActivityReport
The main problem is that it is being saved by default without any extension and after saving the user needs to manually add the .xls suffix.
Another problem is that once I open the report with Excel The Object Name column is unreadable.
Is there any way to resolve these issues?

The feature in general of course was supported, but what I cannot say is if it was a known issue that it didn't work correctly. As I dont't use the ActivityReport, I also have no experience if it didn't work at some time and maybe now is working.
The wrong filename I don't expect to be corrected in the meanwhile, as said, that's a problem in some places. So at least for this you could open an OSS message. And maybe combine this with the problematic column issue.
But if upgrading to SP18 would be an option for you, maybe you could first test that.

New problem printing from financial websites - print button sends file to a "cgi" extension and adobe cannot open and print.

I used to be able to print my bank statements directly from the website to my printer. Now the print program sends the file to a file with a "cgi" extension and saves it on my desktop but as an Adobe file. When i open it to print, Adobe says it is not supported or corrupt. running windows 7 on PC.

I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

Error while updating a custom Windows Azure Diagnostics configuration xml from powershell. "Invalid update to extension reference for role"

I am attempting to upload a manually edited WADConfig xml to my VM. The WAD service is functioning correctly, I needed to add some custom WinEventLogs. The prescribed steps result in an error.
What am I overlooking?

Since Azure SDK 2.5 uses the extension model the diagnostics extension, the configuration and the connection string to the diagnostic storage are no longer part of the deployment package and cscfg. All the diagnostics configuration is contained within the
wadcfgx. The advantage with this approach is that diagnostics agent and settings are decoupled from the project and can be dynamically enabled and updated even after your application is deployed.
Due to this change some existing workflows need to be rethought – instead of configuring the diagnostics as part of the application that gets deployed to each environment you can first deploy the application to the environment and then apply the diagnostics
configuration for it. When you publish the application from Visual Studio this process is done automatically for you. However if you were deploying your application outside of VS using PowerShell then you have to install the extension separately through
PowerShell.
There PowerShell cmdlets for managing the diagnostics extensions on a Cloud Service are -

Effectively you are stripping down the Wadcfgx to only contain the <PublicConfig> section and the <?xml> header. You can then call the PowerShell cmdlet along with the appropriate parameters for the staging slots and roles:

Pdf extension changes to .dat when send a file via e-mail from adobe acrobat 9

to convert a file from microsoft word 2007 to PDF and send as an attachment via e-mail from adobe 9, the file is received with the extension changed to. dat, so recipients can not open it.
Can anyone help me with this.

What is the OS of the sending computer?
What mail client?
I receive plenty of files on my PC as .dat files, which come from Mac user(s), rename the extension to what I think they ought to be and have no further problem. (I cannot change the senders email settings where the problem originates)
If the receiver knows it is a pdf file, they can drag it into Acrobat, but renaming the extension serves future use.

Lack of Nvidia extension support under macosx

I'd like to play City of Heroes under macosx using Crossover Games.
I can do so fine on my macbook pro because it has a ati graphics card.
However on my tower I have a nvidia graphics card and the game will not load.
When I reported it to Crossover Games, I got the following email:

It says "Your card does not support GLNV_vertexprogram" when I launch CohUpdater.exe .
That's because GLNV_vertexprogram(a nvidia specific opengl extension) isn't supported on MacOS. It is strictly speaking a bug in CoH. This extension isn't garanted to be there, even if you have an Nvidia card. An application must not depend on it.
The thing is that this extension happens to be supported by all Nvidia drivers on Windows and Linux, but MacOS uses different drivers which don't support it. So the game's broken assumption that Nvidia->GLNV_vertexprogram support doesn't hold true on Macs.
I can understand that this causes troubles for you. I can file a bug in Apple's bugtracker requesting support for this extension, but its likely that they'll just tell me that software can't depend on this extension.

Not really sure what type of response you're expecting here. Youv'e been told that the drivers don't support it, and there's really nothing your or anyone else here can do about it but hope for future support.

After installing Mt.Lion on my 27" iMac (2010), my copy/paste and move files would no longer function after a few minutes of use. I re-opened in Safe Mode and found everything okay, so I was told it was a bad extension. Now what do I do?

I have tried to look for an extension like Air Print Activator, which I tried and ignored. I thought it might have some timing method that would stop my copying and pasting and moving files after a minutes ot two. So I re-installed the latest version and "uninstalled" it, hoping it would then remove an errant extension. But that didn't help. It seemed to start when I first tried out Mail and moving new emails into their mailboxes after reading. I tried to figure out how to do a Clean Install, too, but it would not allow me to "move" the InstallESD.dmg to a USB disk, "resource busy". Everyway I turn, I'm blocked from carrying out a method of finding the culprit, short of starting from scratch -- but losing years and years of mail, files, receipts, etc. It's just too much to sacrifice. I have no idea what to do next, since I have no idea what extension is causing it or how to isolate and destroy it. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

You can try repairing the boot drive, Since you are running OS 10.6.8 you will need the OS DVD. Do you have it?
Please post back if you do, and need directions on how to do the disk repair.

Selecting existing file in "Save as" dialog isn't adding the extension

I just bought a new Mac with Snow Leopard to replace my Leopard Mac and have noticed an annoying difference with the "Save As" dialog boxes in every application. In Leopard, I used to be able to select an existing file to overwrite that file. In Snow Leopard, it's letting me select an existing file, but the extension is not being added to the file name, so it's creating a new file with the same name but without the extension. I also don't have the "Hide Extension" checkbox that used to be in Leopard. I have spent all evening looking for this but haven't been able to find anything, which implies to me that I must have some setting wrong or something (or I'm just not searching the right terms, it's hard to know what to search for); anyway, does anyone know what I need to do to change this to act the way I expect it to? Thanks. The /tmp and home directories are on the same partition as the main operating system. The Downloads directory is actually set up as a sub-directory of the home one but is a symbolic link to a NAS drive. It works fine for other MIME types. It is just when web sites use the application/octet-stream MIME type that I get this problem.
I checked the permissions and the /tmp and Downloads directories have full read write permissions for everyone. The home directory is the one with the restriction that only I can write to it.
So, I don't expect that sheds any light on the problem.

Thanks. I meant to say in my first post (but pressed the button before it got in) that I actually created a completely new Firefox profile and the problem is still there. Sorry, I should have included that.
The only difference with the fresh profile is that the "open in default application" isn't available, presumably because no default application has been assigned. The "save as" behaviour is still the same.
So, if the problem exists in a pristine profile, it looks like there is something deeper wrong.

Split filename to file and extension

Hi experts,
Does any know a FM or class, which is released and I can use to get the file name and extension?
Normally I used the FM SPLIT_FILE.
But this FM does only exports CHAR3.
So I get a problem with new office-files (XLSX, DOCX)...
