External Actionscript File not being Included

Odd problem:
Myself and a colleague are working on a project. We're both
using Flash 8. We've both downloaded the latest Flash player.
The project involves a series of perfume bottles, all lined
up in a row. When you press a key on the keyboard, the associate
bottle enlarges and some info on it appears. At the same time the
other bottles fade out (an alpha change).
The alpha change is driven using an external actionscript
file, which is called (#include) at the top of the first line of
script in the ‘main’ movie.
The problem is, when I publish the swf file, the alpha change
doesn’t work. When my colleague publishes it, it works. Why
is this? It’s almost as if in publishing from my computer,
the external .AS file is being ignored.
I’ve tried calling the .AS file using a full path to
the file. No change.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash
player, and older version of the player. No change.
Here’s something else that’s odd: I’ve
tried copying all the script from the external .AS file and
embedding it into the main movie. No change. Is it that the
publishing from my computer is corrupted? Other things I’ve
published recently have worked fine?
Any ideas?

Yes, I've opened the AS file, and it seems ok. I've also had
it sent to me a couple of times in case it got corrupted in
transit.
I've also tried copying the script from the AS file and
embedding it into the 'main' movie at the #include statement (and
removing the #include statement) so it doesn't have to look for the
AS file, but this hasn't helped.
I'll try making a different AS file with the trace statement
you suggested, but I have other movies that call external AS
statements, and they work.
We're both running XP Pro w/ SP2.

• Header files not being included in JNI

I've written a java program which interfaces with some C code.In the c code i use certain functions which are defined in a header file that i include in the same c file.The problem i have ,is that the compiler shows an error when it comes across one of those functions.It seems to me that the header file is not being included.Here's what i've done at the start of the jni c code,any help will be greatly appreciated.
#include<stdio.h>
#include " mnt/cprog/ca.h"
JNIEXPORT void JNICALL......
Can other header files be included over here ,or do they have to be included from the java file?..but the problem there is that the header file is of .h extension.....any suggestions??
ps..The os is Linux
..Derick

If the header files are not found, the compiler will tell you. At least gcc does so. If only some functions you are using are missing, they are probably not in the header file you are including.
By the way, there is no way to include headers for your native code through Java. What kind of mechanism should that be?

• Attribute Commentary Files not being included in Build

We are editing the commentary files in the includes folder. When we build and deploy the rulebase (copy the output zip and drop into the rulebase folder on the server), the screen commentary files in the includes folder are moved to the server, but the attribute commentary files in the includes folder are not. Instead, the attribute commentary files in the output folder are being moved to the server. Is there something we need to set to remedy this? Using latest versions of OPA/OPM, but the project was created in older versions.

Alan,
You might try deleting everything in the output folder and building a clean version. If the commentary is successfully included in the rulebase .zip file, there should be a folder called "commentary" at the root level of the zip. file.
Some things to check.
1. Make sure in the rulebase project there is a directory called include
2. Make sure the commentary files are in a directory commentary inside the include directory.

• Warnings of files not being included in final disc

I've had a terrible time trying to learn to burn a movie DVD for my kids to play on their TVs/DVDs and was hoping someone here recognizes what I've done wrong. I've created a sequence in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 (part of FCP Studio 2), used compressor to create the files ending in .ac3 and .m2v (and it also created one ending in .aiff). I imported these into DVD Studio Pro 4 and created a menu with 4 chapters (marked in the timeline). Not sure from the manual if I linked them right or not, but seems that I did. Then when I clicked build/format that worked well (said it was successful). But when I went to burn it I got the following messages in the Build Log.
Warning: The file ‘IVEY_20022003.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
I tried burning this to both a DVD-R and a DVD+R. Both show only the menu screen when I play it on a DVD player, but give the "Not Available" circle with a slash indicator when I tried to play them, use any DVD remote command button, or click on a menu graphic.
What have I done wrong?
What other info do you need to know?
TIA

The problem is that you have created a HD DVD, not a SD DVD. HD DVDs will not play in stand alone DVD players. You need to delete the VIDEO_TS and HDDVD_TS folders that DVD SP created. Then open up DVD SP and get into the Preferences and change the settings to SD DVD. The bad news is now you have to start all over again and create your project again in DVD SP. You cannot start from your old project.
The warnings about .layout and .LAY files can be ignored. They are not the problem.

• How can I EXCLUDE particular folders/files from being included in the Lightroom 5 catalog?

How can I EXCLUDE particular folders/files from being included in the Lightroom 5 catalog?
I want to be able to specify paths and/or filename patterns that should NEVER be indexed in the catalog: not that they don't show up under certain circumstances, just that they are NOT THERE (in the catalog) to begin with!!
I also do NOT want to have to respecify these criteria when "synching" the catalog; criteria should be PERMANENT (or at least 'til they're changed in LR preferences).
I cannot be the only person in the world with this problem--but it sure seems like it, because I've spent an inordinate amount of time doing online searches & I can't find anything that addresses this issue.
Can anyone PLEASE HELP me?
BTW, Adobe employees (if there are any of you out there), I'm simply trying out LR now. If I can't get this (seemingly fundamental) thing worked out (with relatively little effort), Adobe is going to LOSE A SALE of LR, because it's useless to me without this feature.
Thanks,
-t

Thanks for the info... but how to you TELL LR to EXCLUDE images in a particular directory/directory structure? The intuitive place to indicate this would be a right-click on the folder itself (or particular images), but no such option exists.. "???" Thanks again, -pt
The same way that you avoid buying things in your local convenience store. You don't stick a lot of labels on certain shelves, slap a credit card down on the counter each week, and announce you are buying everything that doesn't have a label on its shelf. You just choose the things you want to buy.
Your mention of "synching the catalog" suggests that you are expecting the LR library, to mirror the total images in the computer by default. This is not IMO a useful way to think about it. LR contains no images at all, by default: the Catalog starts out empty.
Then you Add just those selected images that you want to import, among those already in the computer. That's a one-off process which is IMO best achieved controllably in batches - which you can keyword and otherwise organise in LR terms as you go. For new incoming images, ongoing, it is a question of Copying, Moving or Adding these in defined batches as they occur - from the relevant location only - there is no need to re-consider the import of a wider body of images. And one would not want to repeat that whole task anyway: one's prior investment in achieving the right selectivity, has a positive value.

• 'Basic' external actionscript file/class usage

Hey All,
I'm a bit baffled by something that should, in my humble opinion, be a piece of cake...
The setup is really easy. A simple application with a single textinput, a button and a text component.
When the button is clicked a function is called that sets the text from the inputfield to the text component.
code:

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute">
<mx:Script>

public function click(inputText:String):void {
outPutTxt.text = inputText;

</mx:Script>
<mx:TextInput x="10" y="10" id="inputTxt"/>
<mx:Button x="178" y="10" label="Button" id="Btn" click="{click(inputTxt.text)}"/>
<mx:Text x="251" y="12" text="Text" id="outPutTxt"/>
</mx:Application>
As I said, really easy.
What I want to do is put the function 'click' into an external actionscript file or class. And still be able to, from within the external file, modify the outPutTxt stuff.
I'm aware that I could create a public bindable variable inside of the external file and then bind the outPutTxt to that variable, but I would really like to be able to 'simply' force the value...
Is that possible? If yes: how plix
If it's not possible, I'd like to know as well! And in that case, how would I then re-use the same instance of a class/file in multiple seperate components? Say I got a 'login' thingie where a user logs in (data stored externally in a seperate actionscript file/class) and I want to re-use that information on other pages... Or is this done automatically?
Any and all comments/answers are higly appreciated!
Pieter

Hey Levancho,
thanks for your answer!! Much appreciated.
However, the code you proposed threw an error...
Errormessage:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property outPutTxt not found on controls.Control and there is no default value.
at controls::Control/btnClick()[C:\...\FlexTest_03\src\controls\Control.as:13]
at FlexTest_03/__Btn_click()[C:\...\FlexTest_03\src\FlexTest_03.mxml:11]
So I tried something else where I bind the text in my OutPutTxt to a variable inside of the external class file.
Code:
Class:
package controls
public class Control
[Bindable]
public var outPutText:String = "";
public function Control()
public function btnClick(inputText:String):void {
this.outPutText = inputText;
Mxml:

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute">
<mx:Script>

import controls.Control;
[Bindable]
private var control:Control = new Control();

</mx:Script>
<mx:TextInput x="10" y="10" id="inputTxt"/>
<mx:Button x="178" y="10" label="Button" id="Btn" click="{control.btnClick(inputTxt.text)}"/>
<mx:Text x="251" y="12" id="outPutTxt" text="{control.outPutText}"/>
</mx:Application>
And this basically did what I wanted to do... so I just need to do some major binding between my application and the classes I'll be using for my business logic.
Now for something else entirely...
Is there a way for me to pass the instance of my class between flex components?

• External swf file not using URLRequest

Good morning guys.
You can load an external swf file not using URLRequest? Since embed html code is setted as
I have this problem and I need to load a swf skin
thank you

are you loading a swf (done during runtime) or importing one (done during authortime)?
in either case, the allowscriptaccess parameter of the external swf (that your loading or importing) is irrelevant. allowscriptaccess is assigned in the main (loading or importing) swf's embedding html page and is used to control html/js access of the main and loaded swfs.
if you trust the swf you're loading, you can change allowscriptacess to always. if you're importing a swf, none of its actionscript will execute anyway so it doesn't matter whether its trusted or not.

How do I make the drag and drop functions in the
<mx:Script></mx:Script> to be in an external
actionscript file so that this component can access it for the drag
and drop to work?
Any help is very much appreciated. ^^

You can reference a external actionscript file in a
<mx:Script source="myScripts.as"/>
I do not use it this way as it is not a vary OO way to do
things.
I will generally create a singleton class (so it is only
instantiated once)
and use it for utility type functions.
For example:
public class UtilityClass
private static var _instance:UtilityClass;
public function UtilityClass()
public static function getInstance():UtilityClass
if(_instance == null)
_instance = new UtilityClass();
return _instance;
public function myFunction():void
Then in a mxml
<mx:list id="list"
dragDrop="UtilityClass.getInstance().myfunction()"

Usually that error can be cleared up by renaming the personal config folder. Turn on your OS's hidden files and then go to...
C: > Users > your username > AppData > Roaming > Dreamweaver (version) > your language > configuration
Rename the configuration folder configuration-old and start DW up. That should create an entirely new configuration folder and correct the menu.xml file.
