Sorry, I didn't realized I posted this under Final Cut Pro. However, if you have a suggestion, heres the link for the new one:

I have a Western Digital 500GB Studio Edition. The drive works fine with transferring small amounts of data (a few GBs), but when I try to use Time Machine to back my whole computer up (~70GB), at some point the drive stops responding. There is no pattern as to where when it stops working, it could be 17kb, it could be 69BG, but I have never been able to complete a backup.
What happens is that after a certian amount of time, the drive just stops responding. The "Ready light" is on, as if it is just waiting for me to use it, and Time Machine thinks it is still backing up, but its not. This also happens outside of Time Machine, if I just have the drive running for a while, the drive stops working. This is also accompanied by Finder freezing up until I unplug the drive. Sometimes (but not every time) I also have to unplug the drive from the outlet in order to get it to respond again.
This may be unrelated, but I am using Firewire 800, which, as I understand, should be able to transmit data at 800MB/s, but it is dramatically less than that. Again, the speed varies, but it is usually around just a few MB per second. I understand that this vary with the drive and computer, but I think that a year old drive/MBP should be able to transfer data close to 800MB/s.
I have a windows partition, and I experienced the same problems, especially when playing game stored on the drive. I recently got an eSATA ExpressCard, but unfortunately the drivers are only available for Windows. I haven't had any problems with the drive not responding since I have been using the ExpressCard, and data transfers have been very fast (again, not sure how fast, but games now run like they did on my internal hard drive).
I made sure my drivers were updated, I even installed the "WD Turbo Drivers". The Partition Map Scheme is GUID Partition Table. Under Energy Settings in System Preferences, I unchecked the box "Put the Hard Disk to sleep when possible".
I can't seem to find anyone else who has had this problem in the forums, or elsewhere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

FW800 has a theoretical limit of 800 mb/s - that's mega bits (not bytes). The firewire bridge chip and hard drive's ability to spool do not usually even come close to that theoretical limit.
Still it sounds like your hard drive is not working. I'd get everything off it, reformat it and start over.
The reality of the situation is your mybook is not designed for video editing. I guess they do back ups fine but not much else. Your best path would be to either a) get an external hard drive designed to be used for editig - Caldigit, granite digital, etc or, if your computer suppports them, populate your internal bays with sata drives and use those as media drives.
Good luck.

You're probably right, that it's some problem with the drive. You might want to search this forum for similar posts, also see what Western Digital might have to say. I don't have any experience with WD, but some drives have sleep/inactivity settings that don't play well with TM.
But to be sure there isn't a TM problem, like a file it doesn't like, download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/timemachinebuddy.html. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window.
If you see something there that seems suspicious, copy and post the messages here (be sure to get them all, as sometimes they overflow the small window).

  • Display driver stopped responding and has recovered successfully

    Hi everyone!
I  sometimes have recently  been encountering this error 'Display driver stopped responding and has recovered successfully' .
This is the version of ATI RADEON Graphics adapter.
This problem is happening recently (let me say about five months ago)
I really don't know what may be causing this problem. However, I have created a virtual machine before about only 3 days with these settings:
Host machine has Windows 7 home premium (64Bit), and the mount of memory available is as follows:
    Physical Memory
    Memory Usage 34 %
    Total Physical 5.95 GB
    Available Physical 3.89 GB
    Total Virtual 12 GB
    Available Virtual 9.43 GB
Guest machine has Windows 7 home prmium 64bit, and the mount of memory available is as shown below,  I really  needed to this RAM memory size because the Windows  7 got very slow with less than this size.
Host machine has Graphic adapter with memory size of 6GB
guest machine hat his video adapter settings below, because I really needed to this video memory size.
But, as I said I have been facing this error for about five months before VM was created.  Thus, I don't think that the problem is related with VM's video display.
Also, sometime when visiting some sites containing  video files needing Adobe Flash player, I was faced with that error and the browser got non-responding and then, it got closed.
It would be highly appreciated if you could help me with this.

    Hi Cooperator ,
As I see , your catalyst is from 2011.You can use AMD Driver Autodetect Tool. The AMD Driver Autodetect Tool is designed to detect the model of the AMD graphics card and the version of the Microsoft® Windows operating system installed in your computer. If a new driver is available, the tool is designed to help you download it. After a successful download of the driver, the tool will provide you an option to install it.
    Download page:
    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
After that ,open Catalyst control center, and set your programs to  performance that you want to run.
It should solve your problem , this error comes when graphic card need more time that win register alow (about 2sec) , and with right drivers , it shoul fix it.
Wish you good luck and all the best!!!

    Thanks a lot,
When I tried downloading the tool from that link you provided as circled in this screen shot below
After amddriverdownload_installer was downloaded, I run it, then another wndows showed me
    Then after download completed,
    this show me.
I found the tool cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on my computer,
Although tool couldn not be downloaded, there are some files in this locatin after clicking install.
As aside, this window below showed me while downloading the tool, then I don't know what let it show me.
Is it OK or should I uninstall it if it were installed
Also, AMD Gaming evolved was installed without asking my permission.
It is installed as 'Raptr.exe' in this location  'C:\Program Files (x86)\Raptr'
Also, whenever my Windows 7 got started, this windows showed me, although I didn't set any account for this, there is accont longins as you see in this screen shot belw.
This raises another question which is what created this account shown above?

  • GX740 computer - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

GX740 computer - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
    hi,
As I told in the title I am experiencing this message: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" only when I am playing games. The symptoms are a freeze of the screen (but I can still see pointer of the mouse moving) for 10 seconds, then the screen become black, and the game recover. Frequency of this depends of the game, but it can be really often.
To be more precise about the situation: I just sent my laptop to Rma services (for a totally different problem), they said that they updated the vBios of my graphic card.
before sending my laptop, I never experienced this kind of message before. Even if sometimes I used to have GSOD or BSOD screen on certain games.
Moreover, my Graphic drivers are up to date (using driver sweeper and ccleaner ), I tried several stuff to fix this problem, but nothing worked so far. (reinstalling system, try different ATI drivers, all of my drivers are up to date besides, try to set different options in windows, act on registry  ... and other stuff).
So I do not know what causes that, maybe the new vBios is not compatible with something ? Ram memory issues ? power issues ?
According to what I read , it is quite a very common message, and it does not seem to be hardware related.
But we never know. Could you please help me on this, because I am running out of ideas to fix this issue.
    Thank you for helping
    Geoffrey

Don't you think that the new bios from the 3D card bring some bugs that could be resolved by flashing the motherboard bios ?

  • Display driver stopped responding W510

On my W510 with Windows 7 x64, the screen will go suddenly blank for couple of seconds, then I get the message "Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered".  My suspicion is that it happens most often when I am running a program that uses Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), but I am not sure. Is there any fix for this? It worries me that the system is going to lock up and lose data at some point.
There is a new NVIDIA display driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_197.16_whql.html) as of March 29, 2010. Does anyone know if this would fix it and if it is safe to use this with the W510?

    Hi,
I have the exactly same problem on a W510 64bit with Windows 7.  I have the latest drivers installed released by Lenovo on 15 June.
From my reading on this and other on-line forums this is a common problem with Lenovos, especially W500, W510.
I have been onto Lenovo Support (it is called "Support" because we are supporting them fix their faulty products ) and they say if you have the latest drivers then it is likely a hardware problem.  Forums say the same thing: apparently there is an huge issue with quality of the system boards.
However, I checked my laptop directly at the NVIDIA web site and that scan says my drivers are out of date and should be replaced by an AutoCad driver instead.  Curiously their AutoCad driver is dated May which is older than the release date of the driver Lenovo have released but there can be many reasons for this mismatch in dates.
So I don't know if this is a driver or hardware issue.  Not do Lenovo Support.
I suggest you should log the problem with Lenovo Support and return the laptop for repair or, if they are really serious about customer service, a new replacement.
Sorry, I understand that this is a "head in hands" moment, but they have your money and you have their faulty product so what else can you do?

  • "Display ATI Radeon Family driver stopped responding and has recovered"

For the past few days my laptop Model HP G61-409CA has been displaying broken black and white horizontal lines and black, white, and coloured random squares on my screen. When it freezes the screen and mouse stops moving and the screen goes blank for about 5 seconds then comes back with the error (Display ATI Radeon Family driver stopped responding and has recovered) appears with a yellow triangle. Unfortunetly when i click on the triangle nothing opens up.
Ive tried to download Catalyst Control Centre because when I researched many people spoke about not being able to find their control centre and that it had something to do with the displaying error on the screen. I cant seem to find the folder or the program on my computer, but when i tried to install something similar from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows%207%20-%2064#amd-catalyst-packages less than half way through the computer displayed a Blue screen and had to shut down. Also when i recovered my laptop the problem did not go away.
    My product number : WA964UA#ABC
OS: Windows 7 for x64 based systems
Please let me know what needs to be done ive tried updating all my drivers aswell!

    Hi Quesspee,
Thank you for your query, I am happy to assist you!
I grasp that a few days ago your  display started  showing broken black and white horizontal lines and black, white, and coloured random squares on your screen . When it freezes the screen and mouse stops moving and the screen goes blank for about 5 seconds then comes back with the error (Display ATI Radeon Family driver stopped responding and has recovered) appears with a yellow triangle. When you clicked on the triangle, nothing happened.
You tried installing the Catalyst Control Center and approximately 1/2 through, you received a blue screen and your system  shut down.
You tried doing a recovery but the issue remained.
I suggest you test for hardware failures.  Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7)

  • Satellite A500 - Display driver stopped responding

    Hi,
3 weeks ago I bought brand new Toshiba A500. I post here because I didn't find any helpful solution.
    Here is specification:
    Processor: intel core i3 M330 2.13GHz
Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (1024 MB)
    Hard drive: MJA2320BH G2 (320 GB, 5400 RPM, SATA-II)
    RAM: 2X 2 GB DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-18 @ 457 MHz)
Audio: Realtek ALC272 @ Intel Ibex Peak PCH
System: Windows 7 64bit - directed from Toshiba
The issue is: at random situations, the screen is turn black for a couple of seconds, then the message is pop up saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered - display driver NVIDIA Kernel Mode Driver, Version 187.98 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It happens several times per day.
Sometimes display driver can't be recovered and than system hangs and must be reset. Problem occur at first day after five minutes of using (when there wasn't install anything without OS).
Problem occurs always during normal working with applications (MS office, firefox, etc.). It's completely random - there in not two the same situations - so when I watch hd films in youtube on full screen it crashes several times, but when I restart OS and than play the same movie it works correctly.
Application causes this problem is called TDR (Time-out Detection and Recovery).
This application reset GPU when didn't get respond during 2 sec. But in Windows7 registry doesn't have entries controlled this application.
Since than I tried following solutions:
    - BIOS update;
    - System reinstall;
    - Display driver update to version 197.16;
    - Checking temperature on graphic card (when issue occurs temperature on graphic card didn't exceed 47deg, and processor 36deg);
    - Java update (older version of Java can causes some device problems);
    - Adobe update (same as Java);
    - Turn off aero;
    - Windows 7 updates;
    - Turn off audio (realtek card);
    None of them works.
The problem didn't occur during playing games (i.ex. Witcher). I can play 8 hours and nothing weird happens.
I notice also that problem occurs during opening some applications or entering new tasks (when energy demand rapidly increases).
I wondering that is some driver problem or I should return the laptop to the service.
I suspect that problem can be to big difference in voltage on graphic card but I can't verified that.
If somebody meet with this problem I will appreciate any help.

    hi,
i had the same issue with my A500-1dn equipped with GT 230 M, getting the message ,,Display driver stopped responding,,. I updated the card graphic driver from nvidia.com 3 weeks ago and since that time it' s gone ( I hope forever).

Since I purchased the laptop I had a problem with the display driver.
The screen keeps blackout and comes back after a second with the massage display driver stopped responding and has recovered, I wish I can attach a screenshot. The laptop have nVidia card on it.
The dealer replaced it for me but even with the new one, it comes each day once or twice

Why not? Driver stops responding only when cpu cooler runs on minimal rpm, seems to me, that fan rpm basically depend on cpu heat (_not_ gpu).
Very good solution, but I have a question: would you buy a server that works only when you disable lan card? would you buy a car which can turn only left?
No matter. Never the less, I'm satisfied with how the Intel i3 and Nvidia 310m works.
The thing i DO NOT like and which concerns manufacturer directly is keyboard. I don't know who designed flat buttons, but it's the worst keyboard I seen EVER. You can realize my disappointment, changing eeepc to u500 expecting better and getting THIS. They could at least have upgrade for keyboard replacement, the part that cost $50 spoils $1100, wonderful...
:( I imagined my fist toshiba as much happier thing...

  • Windows 8.1 Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Driver stopped responding and recovered?

I have the newst version of the 15" MBP Retina with the Haswell chip and Nvidia GT 750m.  The problem I started having about 1 week ago is intermittent it seems, but involves the graphics driver when I'm in windows.
The screen goes flashes to black for about 5 seconds then recovers and the display comes back up.  It just continues to do this every 10-15 seconds and the error messages displayed is "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"  below that it says Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Vers.####### stopped responding and has successfully recoverd.
What's crazy is the problem is not limited to any particular version of the driver!  I used system restore and went back a few weeks just to make sure, thinking it was just a conflict with a new update somewhere.  I have tried to install old versions of the 64-bit Geforce driver and it is irrelevant, the problem keeps cropping back up. I dont' know what to do, and can't even function in the Windows side hardly at all for very long.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
I dont know if this will help you, but yesterday when I logged into Win 8.1 on the same rMBP as you I got an update notice for a new driver for the NVIDIA graphics card.
This is the driver that I got the notice for. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/73780/en-us
You may want to download this and try installing it.

  • SLI GTX 970 Nvlddmkm "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" Error

    Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with driver crashes and was hoping someone on here would be able to help. The error I am getting is: Nvlddmkm "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered".
    My PC specs are:
    Windows 8.1 Pro
    i7 4770k with Corsair H100i
    2x 8GB HyperX RAM
    Asus Maximus VII Ranger Mobo
    2x MSI GTX 970's
    750w Superflower Leadex PSU
I've noticed that the error usually happens while the cards are cooling down after playing a game, although it has been known to occasionally happen while gaming. I am have MSI Afterburner running and have noticed that the GPU usage spikes up to 100% then the power usage drops completely just before the crash.
This problem has persisted through 3 clean OS installs so I do not believe it is a driver issue.
My initial thoughts were that the PSU could be insufficient, but after some reading online my system really shouldn't draw anywhere near 750w. What do you think? I am not totally clued up on PSU's, so not sure if my wiring could also be causing the issue - here's a pic:
The cards use a single cable that joins both cards for both 8-pins, then two other power cables for the 6-pin. Would this be a problem?
It's also worth noting that the issue doesn't seem to occur when SLI is disabled. I never had any problems with the original card prior to adding a second card though so I do not think it needs RMA'ing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

oki remove the second card[your old one] and test the newest card only
I will try this tomorrow, thanks.
A bit more info, it crashes with SLI disabled. Just found out tonight for definite.
Here is a screenshot of what MSI Afterburner shows when it crashes.

  • Msi GT683R "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error.

I bought a laptop before 6 months, installd windows 7 x64 and everything works fine. Suddenly, five days before I got this eror " Display driver stopped responding and has recovered ... "but the laptop operates normally, when not connected to the charger, the only difference is that the graphics card works only on P8 state 203/606/324. I've tried everything, install new windows, tried all the video drivers back 6 version, tried two different chargers, raised the voltage in the video card, flash the latest BIOS, flash latest EC driver, changed several types of RAM memory, installed win xp x64, all drivers are from MSI's website, tested temperatures (everything is fine, no overheating), blew video card out of the dust, new thermal paste, tried to change the regedit key (Microsoft recommend), the last windows update, etc, etc. I tried to OC video card with MSI Afterburner, but does not want to accept the clock (last nvidia driver version 314.07) ... On various forums I saw that a lot of people have a similar problem, but not the one topic has a problem with the charger. I tried all sorts of modifications to the 3D nvidia utility. Currently I run out of ideas, I thank you in advance for your help!!!

  • Satellite A500-1GH - display driver stopped responding and has successfully

My laptop is the A500-1GH and I bought it 2 days ago...
My problem is that for the fourth time the monitor went black and then recovered and I'm getting the message "display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered". My graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce 330.
I would appreciate it if someone knows what should I do to fix this
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Guys,
I have experienced _*both*_ problems with my A500/O2J with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330m graphics card. Only purchased it Monday 15th February. Everything came factory installed except Office Professional 2007.
Set it up on Tuesday and it happened within 2 hours of set up, then again on the Wednesday. On the first 2 occurrances the display went black and recovered after a few seconds with a message along the lines of "graphic card driver has stopped responding and has successfully restored" then today (Friday 19/2) the screen went black and didn't come back on. I thought it had gone in to sleep mode but pressing the power button did nothing. After about 20 minutes I got the Blue Screen saying the system was shutting down to prevent unecessary damage and it then proceeded to restart.
I'm computer illiterate when it comes to this technical stuff and rang the place of purchase who told me to ring Toshiba (133 070). Of course being in the West they are closed so I will have to wait until Monday (1st day back at Uni).
Not off to a good start....so i hope this problem can be rectifed quickly and without too much fuss.
    My computer specs are as follows;
    A500/O2J
    Intel Core i5 processor
Windows 7 Home premium (32 bit)
    4GB memory
    500Gb Sata storage
    NVidia GeForce GT 330M graphics
    Karmon/Kardon speakers
Everything came factory pre-installed except printer and Office Professional 2007 but both were installed after the problem occured the first time.

  • Toshiba Satellite P500 "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered."

I have a Toshiba Satellite P500/XEO PSPGSA - 1XE08L Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) system.  I’ve received the following random message Since I bought the computer back in 2011--- “Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered.” Since I have bought the computer I have returned it to Harvey Norman where I purchased it from for them to fix the issue. They have reformatted and whiped the computer a couple times aswell as going to the toshiba website and installing the latest drivers. I also have done the same steps as Harvey Norman.
The computer has been sent back to Toshiba also, It was overheating so Toshiba has put a new CPU into the computer to fix that issue and also the hard drive had a fault sector so Toshiba installed a new hard drive. When Toshiba had the laptop they tried to fix this issue with no result.
This issue is more annoying then anything because it happens often (a few times a day) and some of the time when the driver fails and the screen stays black, the only way you can fix this is a hard shut down by holding the off button.
I have looked at all the threads and have seen a lot of people having this problem. I have tried all the ideas and people's ways to fix this issue but nothing has worked.
This problem needs to be solved and I don't want to hear that I need to reformat my computer or restore it to factory settings like tech support have told me to do because both myself and Harvey Norman has done this and IT HASN'T Fixed the issue. This issue can't be good for the computer..
I am very dissapointed, after nearly 2 years of having this laptop the problem hasn't been fixed and Toshiba has no idea how to fix this issue. This laptop cost me over 2500 dollars and I have had more problems then I would have had with a 500 dollar computer.

No reply from Toshiba yet? Great customer service.
Anyways this is a snapshot of my screen going black and then coming back with a message popping up stating that the Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered.
As you can see the window that I am in turns fully black after the driver recovers, I have to close the window and re open it. This happens many times a day.
I also am getting the display Driver crashing and the whole screen turns black and stays black, no matter what you do the screen stays black. I hit Cntrl + Alt + Del and nothing works making me shut it down by holding the on/off key
I do a lot of business on this computer and use it for all purposes. Due to this issue, every time the screen goes black and I have to hard restart the computer I lose all my work. Due to not knowing when this will happen I am having to lose a lot of work and start all over again.
This is ridiculous and Needs to be fixed. I am a Toshiba Customer and I have spent my money for the best of your products and I am very disappointed with the outcome. There has been no help, I have had nothing but issues and the customer service and support for your company is atrocious.
In future I will no longer be buying Toshiba and I know a lot of other people who have seen this issue and had the same problems with Toshiba support that they won't be using Toshiba either.

  • MSI GT70 0ND : Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

    Hi,
    I just bought a MSI GT70 0ND 1212xfr :
    CPU : i7-3630QM
    GPU : Nvidia GTX 675MX
    RAM : 8 Go
    HDD : 750 Go  7200 trs/min
OS : Windows 8.1 (installed by myself)
I tried several drivers but i always get this error message when the laptop has to switch on the GTX 675MX instead of the Intel HD4000 :
    Quote
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.
But finally the GTX 675MX is not enabled so i can't use my graphic card.

Already done and it didn't change anything but i found a temporary solution : i set the nvidia parameters to start my game with the GTX, the message still appears but next the game is running with the GTX. I didn't try with another game. I hope it will works too.
