External file attachment to a cell

Hi all,
Is there any way to attach a file to a cell so it's displayed as an icon that you can click and open the file? The file itself must be stored inside the main spreadsheet file.
Thank you in advance!
Regards
Nik

Thank you so much for all your help!
Wayne, Jerry is right. You can actually store hyperlinks to webpages and 'emails'. The link specified in the cell will open up your default browser as long as it's an URL starting with 'http://'. So no luck creating links to local files via 'file:///'.
I hope it will be fixed soon. The best solution would be to allow to 'attach' files that are displayed as icons and keep those files inside the .numbers itself (like in a container). Or have a choice to link to a file stored somewhere else as an option.
Thank you!
Regards,
Nik

  • How do I get an email file attachment, any extension, off of my phone?

    All I want to do is get an email file attachment off of my phone and on to my computer so I can use it.  I don't want to open it on my phone, it could be an AutoCAD file, a programming langauge file, etc.  I want the option to save the attachment to local memory on my phone and then transfer it to my PC via USB.   This worked all the time with my Blackberry, but it seems impossible or extremely difficult with the Apple IOS. The available phone memory would look like a USB stick drive to my PC.  I am at job sites all the time where I do not have internet access from my PC, but I am within the cell network area of coverage so this would be an option.
    I spent almost an hour with Apple Tech support today and they must have thought that I was on drugs asking for such a simple thing.  Apparently, the available phone memory is protected by the IOS so that the PC can't see it or use it.  They said this feature would be all App based.  The key then is finding an App that would allow the email client on the phone to give the user the option to open or save the file to a location that my PC can see. Does anyone know of such an App?   If I can't find a workable solution I may have to go to an Android device.  Thanks.

    So I understand where you are coming from. The best way is to use the cloud. What you need to do is download a program like dropbox, box.net or sugar sync; there are tons of these apps but those 3 are the most widely supported. Once you download it on your device you can then download it onto your computer by going to their respective sites. These will automatically sync your documents over the air when both your computer and phone are connected to the internet. But if you have no internet service on your computer here is what you do; go to itunes and plug in your phone> go over to the APPS tab on the top> scroll to the bottom of the page and it will say file transfer. This will allow you to pull files from those cloud apps even without service and voila you have your files on your computer even without Wi-Fi or hotspots. I hope this helps!
    EDIT; the best app to use file transfer with is good reader because the cloud apps won't sync directly with iTUnes. You will have to pay for it but it will allow you to connect all your cloud services to it and it can edit and view most files. I use it constantly for my work and I wouldn't be able to live without it even if I wasn't using it for file transfer. Sorry I forgot that in my post, this is an necessity to use the file transfer in iTunes.

  • Opening an external file containing javascript code

    I'm trying to develop a PDF in two languages. When pushing a button, all questions and list-of-values for possible answers should be translated.
    I created and initialized several variables with the two language phrases with javascript. Everything is inside my code.
    Is there anyway that when a button is pressed an external file is read, bringing that javascript code for questions ans list-of-values? My concern is that currently I have a duplicated code, but if I want to implement three, four languages it will grow without control.
    This is an example I wrote in my code:
    var TxtAuxL1ESP = new Array();
    var TxtAuxL1ING = new Array();
    TxtAuxL1ESP[0]=", como ";
    TxtAuxL1ING[0]=", such as ";
    TxtAuxL1ESP[1]=": el último año ha obtenido ";
    TxtAuxL1ING[1]=": last year it obtained ";
    TxtAuxL1ESP[2]="%, en los últimos tres años ";
    TxtAuxL1ING[2]="%, in the last three years ";
    TxtAuxL1ESP[3]="% y en los últimos cinco años ";
    TxtAuxL1ING[3]="% and in the last five years ";
    if (P1.BtnIdioma.border.edge.stroke == "raised") {
        var TxtAuxL1=TxtAuxL1ESP;
        var TxtAuxL2=TxtAuxL2ESP;
        var TxtAuxL3=TxtAuxL3ESP;
    else {
        var TxtAuxL1=TxtAuxL1ING;
        var TxtAuxL2=TxtAuxL2ING;
        var TxtAuxL3=TxtAuxL3ING;
    What I was thinking is to store TxtAuxL1ING in one file, TxtAuxL1ESP in another file and read them from my javascript code inside the PDF. Is it possible?

  • How to include external files when building installer for a standalone executable?

    Hi,
    I was trying to build a stand alone executable from my Labview project and I was able to do it successfully.  Now I would like to include a few external .txt files in the installer. Those .txt files have parameters/constants that will be used by the program, and my program needs to load/read them when running.  For now I have to manually copy/paste them into the target machine, but I really hope the installer can do it automatically.  I see there is a "data" folder in the installer, and that's where I hope those .txt files can be added into.
    How can I do it? Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thanks!

    Norbert,
    I could not find "Add file" when right clicking the project. See attached image please. Under "Project" I do have a "Add to project" but there is no option for external files. I did not find "Source" location either.
    What did i do wrong? Is there any version requirement here? I have a 2010 base version. Thanks for your help.

Anyone have a idea it just all of a sudden stopped displaying all external fles???

    Peter,
    I tried testing the RSS feed using a FeedReader, and it works with that. But, when I try feed the same URL ( http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss ) as the XML source in the Omniportlet, I get the following error message:

  • How to open an external file in Labview?

    Hi, Who knows how to open an external file in LabView? I want to open an .UDL file(data link API) which is a dialog window letting me input correlated database information, but I dont know how to open this type of file in my LabView Program.
    Thanks.
    Red

    A UDL is technically a text file, so you could open it with "Read Characters from file", put the result string into a string control, edit it and save it back using the "Write Characters to File".
    UDLs however have their own configuration dialog embedded in the Windows OS. You can use this dialog in your LabVIEW application. The attached VI shows how to create a new UDL. You can edit an existing UDL by switching the method node to PromptEdit and wiring in an open ADO connection reference.

  • Can WEBI Insert external files in report?

    BO 6.5
    can a Webi report be instructed to insert external files in the report layout, from .pdf or .doc files stored externally on the BO server Windows system? This will be static information, for eg a Cover Sheet.
    Currently I am able to insert a small .jpg file in a cell to display the company graphics logo.
    Would a similar approach work to insert a full page document? Maybe if I scanned and saved this document as .jpg? How about .pdf files? Has anyone tried this?

    Avinash is simply saying that you can pull data from external data sources.
    What you need is something that is NOT possible to achieve.
    You want to embed external files and objects in WebI which is not in the scope of this product.
    You can use Crystal Reports or upgrade to BI4.0 and create BI Workspaces
    Cheers

  • SCSM SDK Relating an Incident to a File Attachment

    It seems that I have too many Exchange Connectors so I am looking to find other avenues to meet the needs of my users.  I was planning on trying to pitch using Self-Service Portal for internal requests and creating an website for external client requests.
    While I was able to create and Incident and a File Attachment via the SDK and C#, the process failed when I tried to create the relationship between them.  I've tried to find an answer on the internet but I am coming up short.  I followed the examples
    correctly but the code fails with a DiscoveryDataLifetimeDependencyException
    public static void Test_AttachFileToWorkItem()
    EnterpriseManagementGroup mg = new EnterpriseManagementGroup("scsmserver");
    EnterpriseManagementObject createdIncident = mg.EntityObjects.GetObject<EnterpriseManagementObject>(new Guid("9AF45443-150E-2AE4-B4F5-CC76930ED3F8"), ObjectQueryOptions.Default);
    EnterpriseManagementObject fileAttachment = mg.EntityObjects.GetObject<EnterpriseManagementObject>(new Guid("4FFEBC8B-C1CF-27D5-E01C-CD8E22A06873"), ObjectQueryOptions.Default);
    ManagementPackRelationship relAttachment = mg.EntityTypes.GetRelationshipClass(new Guid("aa8c26dc-3a12-5f88-d9c7-753e5a8a55b4"));
    CreatableEnterpriseManagementRelationshipObject attachmentRelationship = new CreatableEnterpriseManagementRelationshipObject(mg, relAttachment);
    attachmentRelationship.SetSource(createdIncident);
    attachmentRelationship.SetTarget(fileAttachment);
    attachmentRelationship.Commit(); //Error here

    i may be reading this wrong, but it looks like you are trying to create a relationship for a file attachment object that already exists. this will never work.
    the relationship for file attachments is like the relationship for WorkItemContainsActivity. the lifetime of the child object is linked to the lifetime of the relationship. if the relationship is deleted, the child object is similarly deleted. the corollary
    of this is that if you create an object in the database without this relationship, it can never be added to a relationship.
    instead of using mg.EntityObjects.GetObject() to get an existing object, Create the object using CreatableEnterpriseManagementObject inline, populate it with data, but do not commit it. create your relationship using the same code you specify here,
    using the variable holding your uncommitted file attachment object in the relationship, then commit only the relationship object.
    for reference, here is similar powershell i used to do this:
    $FileParams = @{
    Extension = ".xml"
    Description=$FileName
    Content = $SourceFile
    Size = $SourceFileSize
    AddedDate = (get-date).ToUniversalTime()
    DisplayName = $FileName
    ID=([System.Guid]::NewGuid()).ToString()
    #create the attachement, then create the relation, then submit them both in one go.
    $FileToAttach = New-SCSMObject -Class $fileClass -PropertyHashtable $FileParams -nocommit
    $NewfileRelation = New-SCSMRelationshipObject -Relationship $AttachedFile -Source $Cr -Target $FileToAttach -nocommit
    $NewFileRelation.commit()

  • Launch External Files from SSRS

    I have a report that will list the names of files that are attached to this report in the database.  I would like to include the list of files from the database and allow the users to click or double click the file name and have the file load.
    Is there a way for SSRS to do this?  The files can be in multiple formats, and in the project that adds the files we can use:
    System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(filepath)
    And it will launch the correct process to view the files.  I have stored the the file itself in an image column, and I also have the full path and the file name in columns as well so I could create a dataset to retrieve the file names and show them
    on the report.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi katghoti,
    If I understand correctly, you want to embed external files (word, pdf, image etc.) into a report in Reporting Services. If in this scenario, I suggest that you can use the following two methods to achieve your requirement:
    Embed these files into database.
        1) Use the SQL commands to embed these files in database as the image data.
        2) Use the .net language (C#, VB) to convert this data into the image.
        3) Use the image control to show these images, which are files embedded in database.
    Reference:
    How to embed a pdf document in Reporting Services
    Upload these files in the report server, access them using URL.
        1) We can upload these files in the report manager.
        2) Adding hyperlinks to reports to link to these files stored on the report server.

  • Opening external files in Director Projector... *URGENT*

    Hi, this should be really basic, but I just can't work it
    out...
    I want to open external files (but kept in the same root
    directory as my projector file) from a mouse/button click in my
    projector.
    I don't know any Lingo, but I am assuming it should be pretty
    straight forward... I need to launch a .pdf, a .html file (I can do
    this with the goto URL behaviour actually), and a .exe.
    Is there not a preset behaviour for this somewhere?
    Your help is much appreciated.

    > Are we sure that I am doing this right?
    What about the following - copy it into your cast as a
    behavior and
    attach it to all your buttons, one at a time, choosing the
    file you want
    to open when you click each button. You might need to remove
    previous
    code attempts from your buttons. Be sure to include FileXtra4
    with your
    projector - (Menu:) Modify -> Movie -> Xtras..., click
    Add, locate the
    xtra and add it to the list displayed; or simply place it in
    a folder
    named 'Xtras' alongside your projector
    property myFile
    on getPropertyDescriptionList
    fx4 = xtra("FileXtra4").new()
    tRange = fx4.fx_FolderToList( _movie.path )
    fx4 = VOID
    return [#myFile: [#comment: "File to open:", #format:
    #string,
    #default: tRange[1], #range: tRange]]
    end
    on mouseUp me
    tDelimiter = the itemDelimiter
    the itemDelimiter = "."
    tType = the last item of myFile
    the itemDelimiter = tDelimiter
    fx4 = xtra("FileXtra4").new()
    if tType = "exe" then
    OK = fx4.fx_FileRunApp( _movie.path & myFile )
    else
    OK = fx4.fx_FileOpenDocument( _movie.path & myFile )
    end if
    if ( OK <> 1 ) then
    alert "Error opening file:" && myFile

  • How to release and read another external file

    My vi is set to read an external file (a previously collected force plate signal), then perform a string of analyses on it and finally save the analytical output. Currently, "Read from measurement file" is outside the while loop containing all of my analysis.
    Without completely restarting the vi, I would like to be able to release the file and load another.  How might I do this?
    Thanks!

    I would do several things to clean up the block diagram.
    whenever you have multiple outputs that are related to each other (PF, F100, F150, F200, F250, etc...) or all of the RFDs and Impulses, you can bundle them together and then display them with one big cluster, or as an array, if that makes sense.  This will reduce your total number of outputs and maybe improve organizaiton.
    If you have a seqeunce of functions that go together, you can combine them into a SubVI to save blockdiagram space and making things more logical.
    If you have several places where the same sort of function is being done, (for example, you have Extract-Statistics-Formula several times and Extract-Integral-Statisics several times) you can make this into a sub-VI and then loop through it.  That way you can execute the function multiple times (with slight changes on each loop), but you only have to have the code written once. It also makes it much easier to improve the code because you only have to make one change instead of four.
    The attached VI shows two ways of doing something.  On the left is your code, which is four sets of the same thing.  On the right, I've taken this code and put it into a loop so it does the same thing four times.

  • Loading Knob Digital Display Text Labels from External File

    I have a knob interface. I display it on the instrument's front panel with the digital display.
    The knob controls the settings on an external GPIB switch. The value of the 6 devices selected changes. I want to see the numbers 1 thru 6 on the knob, but the knob's digital display needs to show something like "12.5-13.5 MHz BPF".
    I want to load the text visible in the knob's digital display from an external file located on the machine. I will not have the possibility of changing the VI for each location.
    Can you do that?
    If not, would an a case or event structure containing a text indicator, with text values read in from a file, be the best apporach?
    73/gus

    If you don't have 8.0 and XControls, you can do something like the attached. I edited the knob control and then replaced the digital display with a text ring.Message Edited by Dennis Knutson on 04-21-2006 12:32 PM

    What was wrong with the previous answers given on your other thread:
    Export Blob data to text file(-29285-ORA-29285: file write error)
    If there's a continuing issue, stay with the same thread, don't just ask the same question again and again, it's really Pi**es people off and causes confusion as not everyone will be familiar with what answers you've already had. You're just wasting people's time by doing that.
    As already mentioned before, convert your BLOB to a CLOB and then to XMLTYPE where it can be treated as XML and written out to file in a variety of ways including the way I showed you on the other thread.
    You really seem to be struggling to get the worst possible way to work.
