External files need explicit path

I have a interesting quirk in the Flash app I'm working on.
I'm finding that everything that is loaded externally (movie clips,
XML files, even the skin for FLVPlayer controls) needs a full path
in order to be found, even though the files are all in the same
directory as the player. In other words something like "
http://www.mydomain.com/subdir1/subdir2/file.swf"
versus just "file.swf". The interesting thing is this same
application works fine in other places without a full path. The
difference is that for the other places, the player is in the same
directory as the HTML and for my use it is one level down. So my
HTML is in subdir1, myApp.swf is in subdir1/subdir2 and the HTML
params are src='subdir2/myApp.swf', movie='subdir2/myApp.swf',
id='myApp.swf', name=myApp.swf. Do id and name need to have the
directory path too? If myApp.swf and the files it loads are all in
subdir2 why can't it find them without an explicit path?

Hello dubwai,
One thing you might want to check when setting your path is if the directory that you're adding to the path variable has spaces in it, where Microsoft Internet does...
I am writing you from a Solaris box, so can't check how to include spaces in the PATH variable, but I believe you would enclose the directory with " " signs? I know you placed " " signs in your question, but you also did for "iexplore" and "iexplore.exe", so didn't know if you actually enclosed them, or if they were just used to emphasize the strings....
Hope this helps,
Ming

  • How do you convert absolute paths to external files to relative paths?

I have a TOC PDF document that contains approximately 200 links to other external PDF files. The other files are located in the same directory as the linking PDF. However, when the links were done, I accidentally created the links in a copy of the PDF on the file server, *not* the one in the same directory as the target PDFs.
So now the links in the TOC PDF all have an absolute network path embedded in the link such as "/D/projects/assets/PDF/targetFile.pdf", whereas they should only be "/targetFile.pdf". Is there a way to easily change these? I don't relish the notion of having to walk through the document and manually fixing each one.
I tried forceably editing the PDF file in a binary editor, but this caused the document structure and fonts to get out of whack -- though the links worked.
Any recommendations? I will consider a commercial product if one exists!
    Thanks,
    Rob

I think you are barking up the wrong tree...
Let's say you have a 10 second clip of PAL material:
    10 seconds x 25 fps = 250 frames
    If properly converted to NTSC:
    10 seconds x 30 fps = 300 frames
The only difference is the number of frames, NOT THE LENGTH OF THE CLIP! It is still 10 seconds long.
    10 seconds of audio x 44.1 kHz = 441 thousand samples
    or
    10 seconds of audio x 48 kHz = 480 thousand samples
    or
10 seconds of audio at 22.05 kHz = 220.5 thousand samples
The only difference is the number of samples. NOT THE LENGTH OF THE AUDIO. It is still 10 seconds long.
If you have drift, then there is something wrong in your conversion. You can't take a 25 fps clip, tell it to play at 30 fps and expect it to be the same length. There are multi-thousand $$$ transcoders that do that job.
    HTH,

  • Storing data out to external file...?

I have a question I'd like to put forward to anyone who can
help me. It's a bit vague, perhaps, but any help would be
    appreciated...
I need to make a Flash application into which you can INPUT
data, and then have that data STORED somehow / kept in memory -
probably in an external file of some format outside of the Flash
file, so that the next time you launch the Flash file, that same
EXTERNAL data will be read by the Flash file and will display in
    the interface.
The key thing here though is that file will NOT be hosted
online, so it cannot make use of any "online-only" scripting (if
    such a thing exists?).
I need to host and run the Flash application from my local
hard drive, and all external files need to be on my local hard
    drive too.
Is it possible to set up the scenario I've outlined? Where do
    I even begin?
I fully appreciate that this will be a big project, requiring
a great deal of learning on my part, but I'm willing to give it a
go, providing I know where to start...
What am I looking at here? PHP? CGI? XML? Will those run
    locally? I really don't know...
Like I said, I really know nothing about any of this, and I'm
perfectly willing to learn, but I just need to know WHERE to start
    learning, and WHAT to learn...
    Again - any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

you can use the flash sharedobject to store data from one
    flash session to another.

  • Newb needs help opening file browser and getting full file name and path.

Ok, so I'm a TOTAL newb here, but I have managed to get it to open a file browser but all I can seem to get it to do is give me the NAME of the selected file *eg. selectedFile.name* I also need the path of the file as in C:\example\file.mp3.
The program I'm making plays an MP3 of your choice at a certain time, like an alarm clock. But I got tired of entering the file path of the MP3 EACH time so I wanted to have a browse feature.
    Ideas... help... thanks...
    Nicholas

you'll need to use air to get the path.

    <quote>
when an oracle istance is created the services that support it are setup to 'log on as' the system (or operating system) account, this account has very few privileges and no acces to Window NT Domains. To access another Windows NT machine the OracleServiceXXXX must be setup to logon to the appropriate Windows NT Domain as a user who has acces to the required location for UTL_FILE.
To change the default logon for the Oracle services go to (in Windows NT):
Control Panel | Services | OracleServiceXXXX | startup | log on as; (where XXXX is the instance name)
In Windows 2000, this would be:
Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services | OracleServiceXXX | Properties | Log on tab; (again XXXX is the instance name)
Choose the This Account radio button, and then complete the appropriate domain login information. ONce the services have been setup as a user with the appropriate privileges, ther are two options dfor setting UTL_FILE_DIR:
    * Mapped Dirve: To use a mapped drive, the user that the service starts as must have setup a drive to match UTL_FILE_DIR and be logged onto the server when UTL_FILE is in use.
    * Universal Naming Convention: UNC is preferable to Mapped Drives because it does not require anyone to be logged on and utl_file_dir should be set to a name in the form \\<machine name>\<share name>\<path>
You will of course need to stop and restart Oracle after changing the properties of the service.

  • FAQ: SWF's and loading external files in Flash Catalyst

How do I make the images in my Flash Catalyst project external to the published SWF?
You can choose whether images are embedded in your Flash Catalyst SWF, or loaded dynamically; this can help to keep your SWF's small. Simply right-click an image and chose "Externalize Image".
    Answered by: Adam Cath.
    See entire discussion.
How do I make the SWF I imported to Flash Catalyst load external files?
When importing a SWF, Flash Catalyst only pulls the SWF asset into your project. Many SWF's, such as slideshows and media players, rely on external data files, such as configuration files or media assets. If you would like to use such a SWF in Catalyst, then you will have to place these external resources into your Catalyst project as well as importing the SWF.
Let's assume you have a SWF source folder that contains your SWF file and all of the external files it needs. You can open the SWF file from this folder and it works fine. But, if you import the SWF into Catalyst, the Catalyst project doesn't display it correctly because it can't load the external files. Here's what you do:
    1. Open your swf source folder, and copy all of the files/folders there except the SWF you imported.
    2. In Catalyst, Run/Preview your project (Ctl/Cmd-Enter)
    2. Note the file path to Main.html in your browser
    3. In your OS, open the folder that contains /bin-debug/Main.html from above
    4. Open the "src" folder
    5. Paste all of the files from step 1 into the src folder.
    6. Catalyst won't pick up that your project changed, so tweak it a bit (add a Rectangle), and save it.
    7. Run your project. If it doesn't work, try closing and reopening your project and running again.
For an example, check out: Using an XML-driven SWF in Catalyst to create a slideshow.

You can make you swf a custom component with 2 states.
The first state will be empty and rename it "OFF" the second state will have your swf file and name it ON.
Then go back to your artboard/project, add your 2 buttons ON & OFF.
For the ON button add interaction "play transition to custom component ON"
For the OFF button add interaction "play transition to custom component OFF"
    Here is an example swf_control

  • Dynamic linking of external file

I try to link to an external file, and display it as the text file from oracle report. The path is determined at runtime. I searched on the Oracle Report's Help and found a hint on SRW.SET_HYPERLINK(...), but I couldn't get it work. Please help.
Thanks, in advance, for your help.
    Regards,
    TD

To link to a file dynamically, you need to use the "read from file" property against a column in the data-model.
If the filenames are stored in the database, you can use a simple query to create the column to return the filenames. Otherwise, you can use a PL/SQL formula column of type "char" to return the names.
Once you've created the column, set the "read from file" property to "yes" and set the format to "text". You can then create a field in the layout based on this column value.
The above, is the typical way of handling this. You can also use srw.set_field() to change the value of a field in a format trigger. This is less efficient but useful for some cases of dynamic values.

  • Opening External Files using SWF

    Hi all,
Is there a way to open external files using swf? I have gone
through a number of forums and all seem to tell me to open with a
window projector. my problem is, I need to embed the swf into a
html to be viewed online... So I need to do it in swf format.
    Any ideas?

When you say 'external files' I presume you mean local files
    on the users hard drive.
    If that's true:
When you say 'open' what do you mean? It could mean to open
and load a text file/xml file or another swf in flash or it could
mean to launch a document in its native application e.g. .doc
launches word etc. Flash projectors can do the first thing, but not
the second thing. And you need to know the path of the file because
I don't believe you can retreive it from the filereference browsing
support. 3rd party tools are necessary to really add a lot of file
system support to projector applications, and then you can do both
things mentioned here, without the limitations of flash player
security which is only slightly reduced with regular projector
    files.
The filereference class in flash is primarily for
upload/download support. You can't 'open' local files with it.
There is, to my current knowledge, no way you can do that with
flash in a html page directly.
The only way I can think that it might be possible (untested)
would be to have a separate local MS Office (or any other host for
a flash activex that gives filesystem access) with some embedded
flash in a document that (perhaps) could talk via local connection
with your html page content and which would in turn talk to its VBA
host to request local file system activity. I don't know if this
would work because I've not used localconnection, but perhaps it
    might.

  • Error in asfn(rs[[i]]) : need explicit units for numeric conversion

    Hi
I am using the sqldf package in R to do some joins of my data table as follows:
    p1<-sqldf("SELECT t3.* FROM p as t3 JOIN (SELECT userid, MAX(type) as LastActivityType FROM p GROUP BY userid) t4 ON t3.userid = t4.userid AND t3.type = t4.LastActivityType")
However , I am getting the error mentioned in the subject line
The error doesn't appear  when I change the column names from t3.* and limit it to a subset of column names ( t3.userid, t3.LastActivity....).
Surprisingly though, I have another similar sql script in the same code block which runs just fine.
My code runs fine in RStudio, so I guess there's some incompatibility with the Azure environment somewhere. For reference, the sqldf package and its dependencies (imported separately as a zip) is compatible with R  3.1.2
Can someone help me solve this?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi AK
    Thanks for the quick response
    So I checked the following:
    1) Downloaded the dataset from AML from the step just previous to where my sql script appears, fed it into RStudio with stringsAsFactors=FALSE and thereupon ran the sql script. It works without any issues. It works fine if I dont set stringsAsFactors
    as false as well
    2) Checked the CRAN documentation on the sqldf package, it mentions that the package is valid for versions>=R3.1.0
3)All 4 dependencies were included. Only one was preinstalled. The output log says:
warning: package 'proto' is in use and will not be installedso I removed the package 'proto' just in case it was causing trouble.Nothing Works :/I am pasting the output log, could you have a look and see if I am missing anything obvious? Thanks a ton!UpasanaOutput Log:Record Starts at UTC 11/27/2014 07:38:27:

  • Opening external files in Director Projector... *URGENT*

Hi, this should be really basic, but I just can't work it
    out...
I want to open external files (but kept in the same root
directory as my projector file) from a mouse/button click in my
    projector.
I don't know any Lingo, but I am assuming it should be pretty
straight forward... I need to launch a .pdf, a .html file (I can do
this with the goto URL behaviour actually), and a .exe.
Is there not a preset behaviour for this somewhere?
    Your help is much appreciated.

    > Are we sure that I am doing this right?
What about the following - copy it into your cast as a
    behavior and
attach it to all your buttons, one at a time, choosing the
    file you want
to open when you click each button. You might need to remove
    previous
code attempts from your buttons. Be sure to include FileXtra4
    with your
projector - (Menu:) Modify -> Movie -> Xtras..., click
    Add, locate the
xtra and add it to the list displayed; or simply place it in
    a folder
    named 'Xtras' alongside your projector
    property myFile
    on getPropertyDescriptionList
    fx4 = xtra("FileXtra4").new()
    tRange = fx4.fx_FolderToList( _movie.path )
    fx4 = VOID
    return [#myFile: [#comment: "File to open:", #format:
    #string,
    #default: tRange[1], #range: tRange]]
    end
    on mouseUp me
    tDelimiter = the itemDelimiter
    the itemDelimiter = "."
tType = the last item of myFile
    the itemDelimiter = tDelimiter
    fx4 = xtra("FileXtra4").new()
    if tType = "exe" then
    OK = fx4.fx_FileRunApp( _movie.path & myFile )
    else
    OK = fx4.fx_FileOpenDocument( _movie.path & myFile )
    end if
    if ( OK <> 1 ) then
alert "Error opening file:" && myFile
    &RETURN& fx4.fx_ErrorString()
    end if
    fx4 = VOID
    end

  • Reading the Blob and writing it to an external file in an xml tree format

    Hi,
We have a table by name clarity_response_log and content of the column(Response_file) is BLOB and we have xml file or xml content in that column. Most probably the column or table may be having more than 5 records and hence we need to read the corresponding blob content and write to an external file.
    CREATE TABLE CLARITY_RESPONSE_LOG
      REQUEST_CODE   NUMBER,
      RESPONSE_FILE  BLOB,
      DATE_CRATED    DATE                           NOT NULL,
      CREATED_BY     NUMBER                         NOT NULL,
      UPDATED_BY     NUMBER                         DEFAULT 1,
      DATE_UPDATED   VARCHAR2(20 BYTE)              DEFAULT SYSDATE
)The xml content in the insert statement is very small because of some reason and cannot be made public and indeed we have a very big xml file stored in the BLOB column or Response_File column

What was wrong with the previous answers given on your other thread:
Export Blob data to text file(-29285-ORA-29285: file write error)
If there's a continuing issue, stay with the same thread, don't just ask the same question again and again, it's really Pi**es people off and causes confusion as not everyone will be familiar with what answers you've already had. You're just wasting people's time by doing that.
As already mentioned before, convert your BLOB to a CLOB and then to XMLTYPE where it can be treated as XML and written out to file in a variety of ways including the way I showed you on the other thread.
You really seem to be struggling to get the worst possible way to work.

  • How to open and read an external file in Dashboard widget?

I am new to Dashboard widgets and also Javascript. I have written a widget that needs to open and read a file on the local file system. I have searched a lot and have not found any documentation or reference on the internet as to how to do this.
I know it can be done since there is a checkbox in the widget attributes that says "Allow External File Access".
can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks

You need to define the AllowFileAccessOutsideOfWidget key to Yes.
You also need to define the AllowFullAccess key.
You may also need to define the AllowSystem key (to Yes of course).

PS. If you cannot find any other documentation please check http://widgetbook.blogspot.com.
