External HD kills bluetooth

I have a external AcomData external IDE USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure with a internal 320GB IDE drive. If i start up my iMac with the drive turned on Bluetooth will be disabled and wifi will not work. After about 3 min the Bluetooth gets the unavailable symbol and i have to restart and turn off the HD to get BT and WiFi back. When the problem is occurring if i pull the USB 2.0 cable out of the iMac after about 30secs BT and Wifi come back and everything works.
It seems to only happen with this one HD. I have had it happen once or twice on another but its rare. But it will happen EVERY time with the acomdate enclosure and 320GB ide drive

I have had a similar problem with a Buffalo firewire hard drive. Everything went south after a software update about two weeks ago. Whenever I restart the computer, I lose all my bluetooth devices, which is difficult since I have a wireless keypad and mouse. The only solution seems to be to start up with all cables disconnected. Have called support three times with this and mostly they keep sticking with the "it must be my batteries" kind of logic. Batteries are fine, something is wrong. Everything was fine before the one update.

Is it possible to connect an external camera via bluetooth to the Iphone 4 and use it with Facetime, if not.. why?

Ok, in 2015 is it possible now? I would like to use an iPad and Face to share content between a dressmaker in Asia and a customer in the US, and I would like to attach better camera's than the built-in camera's on the devices.
Any thoughts? Any updates to the original post?

  • Sonnet USB 3.0 PCIe Fail with Mountain Lion, Kills Bluetooth

Just sent the following to Sonnet support. They have a system support installer that is supposed to make the card work with Mountain Lion, which it does, but it also kills Bluetooth on my Mac Pro:
Hi there. Have been banging my head against a wall on Mountain Lion upgrade to a 3,1 Mac Pro and have figured out that your Sonnet USB 3.0 System Support Installer 1.0.1 causes Bluetooth to become unavailable, which for me is a deal breaker.
Here is how I get to the conclusion that your software is the issue:
    1. Clean install of Mountain Lion
    2. Install USB 3.0 Driver (Mac) 1.06B, reboot (Bluetooth fine)
    3. Install Sonnet USB 3.0 System Support Installer 1.0.1, reboot, Bluetooth not available (jagged line through Bluetooth icon in menu bar, no Bluetooth item in System Preferences panel)
When I remove this last item and restart Bluetooth comes back.
I hope there is an urgency around a fix for this. Please let me know if you need any more information.

Very quick response from Sonnet, known issue, they are working on it, no commitment on timing of fix.

  • U430 Touch: Energy Manager kills Bluetooth

As soon as I install the Energy Manager, Bluetooth just fails to start. Bluetooth shows up in the Device Manager, but cannot be startet.
Tested with (latest) original Lenovo Drivers and Intel's Drivers.
Any Ideas? I need Bluetooth for my external Mouse.

I also installed the new version of the energy manager but it had not solved my bleutooth issue completly.
I solved the bleutooth challenge on the "Lenovo U430 touch" running Windows 8.1
    by reinstalling the "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter".
With this driver "gawy08ww"  for Windows 8.1 from the lenovo website, WARNING  this driver is said (by lenovo)
not intended for the "Lenovo U430 touch" and therefore be sure to make a system restore point before taking any further actions. Also be aware I will not provide any further assistance and that following the installation steps in this "forum post" is completly at your own risk.
    1) Make a complete system restore point ,to be assured that should something go wrong you can revert your system to a previous state.
2)Turn off Bluetooth by opening the charm bar on the right of the screen, then click "Settings"
then click "Change pc settings", and click on tab "PC and devices.
Now click on tab "Bluetooth" where you will find a "On OFF" slide. put this in the off position.
    3) Now install the driver for Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter
by clicking on  "gawy08ww.exe" and follow the steps of the installer.
    4) Reboot after installation
    Good luck!

    Turn off monitor.
    All ok.
    PROBLEM states:
    • Monitor connected and ON, next to macbook in bootcamp win7.
    • Monitor connected, ON, and 5ft away from computer in bootcamp win7. (no proximity)
    • Monitor connected, ON, and connected to 2nd laptop VGA, display set to macbook so it outputs the macbook in bootcamp win7. (connection)
    NOT Problem states:
    • Monitor connected and OFF.
    • Monitor ON and not connected. (proximity)
    • Monitor On, and connected to 2nd laptop on VGA in same location. (proximity)
    • Monitor connected, ON, and connected to 2nd laptop VGA, display set to VGA so it outputs the 2nd laptop. (proximity+connection)
    • LAN connected, any test.
    • In Mac OSX, no problem.
So problem state is when the macbook is in NVidia mode, connected and using external monitor in Bootcamp Win7 over the wireless network. Proximity has no effect. Connection, unused has no effect. No wired LAN problem.
I found some posts from 2007 about OSX having this issue, no one got beyond “it must be the monitor is too close and interfering with wireless”
I would have to say driver issue if OSX is ok, and bootcamp is not. Swapping drivers with Bootcamp drivers, win drivers, no joy.
    Ideas?
    Ken aka fierrpawz.

Wow, I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I've been having really bad wifi troubles only in Windows (7 64-bit Ultimate, specifically), and after looking all over the place I happened upon this post. I immediately unplugged the monitor and voila, the signal improved instantly and dramatically. I ran several tests with the monitor unplugged and plugged, and I can confirm that the monitor is definitely the culprit. I'm also using the DVI adapter from Monoprice. Thank you for this post, time to cancel my order for a new router. I would have NEVER thought to try unplugging/plugging my external monitor (also a Dell, incidentally).
    Technical details:
    1. Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter from Monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&pid=5106&seq=1&format=2
    2. Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (problem doesn't occur in Mac OS).
    3. MacBook Pro 13", newest model.
    4. Dell S2409W monitor.

  • External HD kills power to AEBS

    Hi again all,
Well my Airport Extreme (802.11n) has been shutting off when I try to access my 1Tb external HD which is connected to the AEBS via USB A-B cable. This just started last night. My solution is to shut off my external HD, unplug the power cable in the back of the AEBS for a few seconds, then plug it back in, then wait for the AEBS to reboot itself. If I try to turn the external HD it immediately shut the AEBS off. The light goes out and all our laptops are offline. Anyone know anything about this? Apple, are you reading this?
    Cheers,
    Iain

It's always a good idea to use a powered hub, even if the drive has it's own power supply. The port on the AEBS does not supply enough current for some drives and this may be the case with yours.
It would be a good idea to have the AEBS checked out for proper operation first, as there may be a problem with USB port. If everything checks out OK, then go with a powered hub to keep the stress off of the USB port on the AEBS.

  • T410 external monitor kills mouse/keyboard with dock

    WinXP with SP3.
Hi there!  I'm trying to use an external monitor.  I also have a usb mouse and usb keyboard connected to the dock,  When the external monitor is connected I have have keyboard and mouse function both external and on the laptop.  I also have display on the external monitor.  Once I boot windows, I loose function of the mouse and keyboard both externally and on the laptop.  It's driving me nuts!!  Any ideas??
If I just boot at the dock with only the monitor plugged in, I loose the mouse/keyboard on the laptop.  Using the VGA plug.
Any help would be so grand!

I've tried 3 different mice and keyboards. The issue presents even if I just plug the monitor into the laptop without the dock either vga or div-x. The dock is a series 3 mini.

  • Wifi menu kills bluetooth connection

This is very weird behaviour.  I have a Kaiser Baas bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad.  I also use wifi to connect to the internet via my modem-router.
Since installing Yosemite, the keyboard looses its connection to my Mac Mini if I move the mouse pointer and hover over the Wifi menu.  However, that is only if the Mac Mini was not able to make a wifi connection.
For some reason, my Mac Mini doesn't always see my router's broadcast ssid.  When that happens, the wifi menu looks like a giant version of what it looks when connected.  I turn wifi off and on and still it can't see my router.  Strange because it can see three other wifi spots in my suburb.  Then, if I put the Mac Mini to sleep and wake it again, yes, it can see the ssid and connects automatically.
Then, the problem with my bluetooth keyboard is solved too.
Just what is going on with wifi and bluetooth in Yosemite.  OS X networking has always been fragile, flaky and temperamental but this is getting especially obtuse.
Has anyone seen this behaviour ?
    Garry

Thanks. I'll try a different keyboard-trackpad-mouse and look for more reports on wifi problems.  I've not yet found any on theses discussions boards which involve both bluetooth and wifi but, as 10.10 is still young it might be developing.
The Kaiser Baas is not very suited to OS X although they say it is compatible.  It works but, the Trackpad prefs pane doesn't recognise it and the mouse pane options don't work very well with it either.  So, it could be related to the problem.  Still, I don't understand why it should lose the bluetooth connection just because I've accessed the wifi menu.
    Cheers.

  • 10.4.10 has killed Bluetooth, USB syncing of my Treo

Hi, no idea where to post this - I see some other people are having Bluetooth problems under 10.4.10, and others having USB problems under 10.4.10 ... I'm having both. Since installing 10.4.10 (on my 12" PB G4), Bluetooth syncing of my Treo 650 via Plam Desktop started to go flaky, then died altogether - Bluetooth menu item says "not available", no Bluetooth device shows up in System Profiler.
So then I tried syncing over the USB cable. That isn't working anymore either. So then I tried iSync, with the USB cable connected. iSync doesn't even see the device.
No idea at all what could be wrong with the USB. I assume it isn't the cable itself.
Troubleshooting I have already tried for the Bluetooth: (1) Reset PMU; (2) Reset PRAM; (3) deleted bluetooth preferences plist file from Library; (4) more shutdown/restarts than I can count.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have relied totally on this Mac/Treo combo for years ... not being able to sync is like having my brain in 2 different places.

I called a helpful local Mac store. They suggested two super-simple steps:
    (1) Repair disk permissions and restart.
    (2) Download and install the COMBO update to 10.4.10 from Apple. (Not the incremental "delta" update from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 that your Mac downloads automatically via System Update, but instead the blanket update for people upgrading from a variety of different versions.)
They explained to me that often the Combo update works better because it can address issues that arise when upgrading bit by bit.
This completely and instantly fixed the Bluetooth problem for me. My Bluetooth is back. And USB syncing is behaving again.
Should have called them right away. Let's hear it for the good old independent Mac dealers!

  • 10.5.6 kills Bluetooth

    Hello,
Since "upgrading" to 10.5.6 my 3rd party Bluetooth USB dongle will no longer connect to anything.
Guess it's time to spend yet more money...perhaps $250 for the Apple Bluetooth part for my G5. Oh wait, my entire computer's not even worth that anymore.
